SEC investigating the Shaw Group

for possible accounting irregularities, Newsweek reports. Shaw, which employs longtime Bush associate Joe Allbaugh as a consultant, scored a $100 million no-bid Katrina contract “before the flood waters receded.”

  1. SpudgeBoy says:

Yep, wouldn’t want to get the lowest cost for your taxpayer funded contracts for disaster recovery. Better to give a no-bid contract to the first company the vice president calls.

  2. Dartanyon says:

Not surprised. If it orbits Bush’s tiny pinhead, then corruption is close-by.

  3. Skid says:

No matter what happens, proceed with business as usual.

  4. Skid says:

And they wonder why we are so cynical.

  5. wisedup says:

Rove is still dangerious. He called Cindy Sheehan a ‘clown’….LOOK IN THE MIRROR JERK…and you’ll see a real clown.

  6. Ryan Neat says:

If they’re that crooked, that means bush will definitely have them help with Katrina… He always rewards incompetence with billion dollar contracts!

  7. Clyde the Ripper says:

    And the list goes on!

How can they say we are cynical? To be cynical one must distrust the goodness of human motives. I don’t believe that there is anyone on this site, with the exception of the sycophant trolls, that doesn’t trust in DUHbya’s motive. We all know he is a crook and his motive is personal gain for Bushco. We certainly can’t distrust his goodness because he absolutely has none. It is no wonder we make fun of the stupid bastard. To do otherwise would be to cry. See hppt://www.storytimedolls.net/mmff.html

  8. Mary Poppin says:

#8 Clyde thanks for the web site. That was funny.

  9. Clyde the Ripper says:

Thanks, Mary Poppin. There is more!

Thee secret to the recent behavior of DUHbya has been revealed! It was the water (cooler)!

    See Http://www.storytimedolls.net/mmff.html

He wouldn’t even Buy American. It should have been Bud Light.

  10. Marie says:

    #7 Clyde, you said it!
We are cynics because we see what is happening in this White House. They are criminals. In any other setting they would be in jail now.
The SEC is investigating the Shaw Group, but the Chairman is a Bush appointee – so what can we look forward to?

  11. Clyde the Ripper says:

    Marie,

We just gotta keep plugging like those ants of song and finally “Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.” Hopefully, it will be of the metaphorical variety that will not contribute to global warming except for the global portions of the collective Bushco rear end. Just keep a movin’, Dan, he’s no devil, just a man. My apologies to the Sons of the Pioneers.

  12. Nancy L. says:

    Clyde,
yes and if we don’t get Sir Dub-A-Lot out, then this earth is going to be empty, except for the “tumbling tumbleweed”

  13. Steven Souter says:

Looks like Angie in Germany is a good example of what happens to leaders that oppose the United States. Wonder why the MSM is mum – maybe because it’s a victory for Bush.

  14. Marie says:

#12, we will try to “accentuate the positive, and eliminate the negative” — I appreciate the bit of optimism as well as the cheer — we all need it!

  15. Clyde the Ripper says:

Here is one I will bet you don’t remember that we will be singing when they slam the cell doors on the bunch; Hey, Brother, pour the wine! (Dean Martin 1953)

  16. Clyde the Ripper says:

The first one that asks “Who the hell is Dean Martin?” gets et up by Puff the Magic Dragon and spit out by Cecil the Sea Sick Sea Serpent.

  17. Marie says:

You’re right – I don’t recall “pour the wine” but I do recall Dean Martin!!
I once made up a song called “That’s Immoral” based on “That’s Amore” and applied it to Bush’s policies.

  18. Andrew says:

The President of Shaw is the immediate past chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party and was Chair of Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco’s 2003 election campaign.

The response to this disaster implicates all levels of government and both political parties.

  19. Andrew says:

Correction, Jim Bernard, Shaw CEO, was Governor Blanco’s transition team Co-Chair.

According to New Orleans’ Gambit Weekly (1-25-2005):

Her Campaign manager was Jeff Jenkins, corporate attorney and Shaw executive.

Mr. Bernard was quoted in the article as follows:

Beyond that, it will be interesting to see how Bernhard balances the seemingly incompatible roles of big business leader and political party boss. “I have never had any politician interfere with my company’s efforts to get a government contract,” Bernhard says. “I just don’t think that’s an issue.

  20. Nancy L. says:

Puff the Magic by Peter,Paul and Mary. Cecil the Sea Sick Sea Serpent, I’m making a stab at it, was he a cartoon. I seem to recall a kids cartoon called something like Beenie & Cecil. If it was a song, then you really lost me. Dean Martin, I have to agree with Marie, I don’t remember ‘pour the wine” either, but I do remember Dean Martin, his sons had a group, called Dino, Desie, and Paul. Two were Dean Martin’s sons and one later died.
See there is life without a bush in it.

  21. WiscoDuk says:

Does anyone really wonder why most Americans are disengaged? Many folks I know don’t even know who Karl Rove is. They (most Americans) assume the government is screwing them but there is nothing they can do about it. As much as I’d like to argue that point…I can’t. I see hope in these blogs and comments, but as usual, the converted are being preached to.

Allbaughs (all-balls) scoring of no bid contracts is peanuts compared to Uncle Dick’s crimes. The problem is, this blatant cronyism resulting in pocket lining is nothing secret. Even the MSM has reported on it.

The question is: What’s it gonna take to change things? No WMD’s, “the insurgency is in its last throws”, “mission accomplished”, hopeless deficit, the Katrina debacle, etc. I mean…what more do “most Americans” want before they call for heads. (By the way…Brownie was obviously an expendable scapegoat.)

I thought Katrina was the beginning of the end for Bushco. I’m beginning to re-think this. Bush is getting away with putting his PR team in charge of Katrina re-building? Sure enough…and few seem to care.

  22. Ron says:

Lovely Rita is gaining strength and is going to hit somewhere along the Gulf Coast.

Another 60 plus billion dollars will go down the drain.

Don’t worry, be happy. More lies heading your way. It’s what they do. They’re drunk on lying.

“I’m as free as the breeze and I’ll do as I please, just a-bummin’ around.”

  23. kindness says:

The wheels have fallen off for bushco. Why isn’t the MSM attacking like the rabid dogs?

They did over blowjobs during Clinton. This sleaze and corruption is way worse.

Could it be that the corporate MSM leaders are all in on the bushco payola circle jerk? That was sarcasm, OF COURSE THEY’RE ALL IN ON IT!!!! Duh!

So, I guess that leaves it to the blogs to whip up the masses. Go Get ‘em Big Dogs!

  24. kindness says:

    Oh my god!

So, I get outta here and go over to DKos & what is the first thread I see? Yesterday’s article from Hunter giving us CEO statements addmitting exactly what I just said. Not that I needed their admission to validate my beliefs, but I do find it ironic that they don’t even bother to hide their statements that the truth isn’t important, or # 1 in their ideal of what MS is supposed to serve the American people.

  25. Sharon Cox says:

Good post’s all. Clyde I remember Beanie and Cecil, very popular in the 60’s. It was a daily treat for my kid’s to watch. Not cartoons then. The real hand pupetts. Remember all of Dean Martins songs. Those were the day’s (50’s and 60’s the best) untill we lost Kennedy. Now our country is in the worst mess I have ever seen.We had better all ban together quick and fix it…..Blessings

  26. Clyde the Ripper says:

    Nancy L and Marie,

Beanie and Cecil originated as a hand-puppet TV show from KTLA in Los Angeles in the early 1950’s. It was created by Stan Freeberg who also recorded some comedy songs. His biggest hit was “St George and the Dragon Net,” a take-off of “Dragnet.” I better quit this or I will be chastized. My E-mail address is on my web site

  27. Ryan Neat says:

And this is the guy who recommended brown – nice cronyism. They sure consistent crooks..

  28. Andrew says:

    Dear Ryan:

    See #19, #20

  29. [MAC] says:

I’m surprised no one has addressed this little gem:

An issue raised by the Feds that Kenyon found distasteful: an instruction that chaplains bless recovered bodies. A company source said the Feds are insisting on this, and the first chaplains are supposed to go out this week. Asked if that was mixing church and state, a FEMA spokeswoman responded: “A prayer is not necessarily religious. Everybody prays.”

I’m an agnostic. I don’t pray. I know a lot of other people that don’t, too. This clearly violates the first amendment.

  30. Ryan Neat says:

    Andrew,

Your point? Fema controls contracts for the money, not blanco – and most of it’s going to halliburton (which I noticed you didn’t implicate the cheney connections to). May I assume that you didn’t want to point out where the REAL money was being stolen for republican coffers?
