  1. Dartanyon says:

Why does Sen. John Edwards refuse to keep his own state’s ADAP program properly funded so people living with HIV aren’t put on a waiting list, or better still, forced to relocate to other states while ill?

  2. Excited Democrat says:

    Finally, there is hope
    for the Democratic Party.

  3. afterthought says:

Ex-senator Edwards does not have any elected power.

  4. Dartanyon says:

Edwards is past. He can’t even care for his own state.

  5. Taco Loco says:

I appreciate his efforts, but as a North Carolinian, I would have preferred if he had fought against Richard Burr to keep his senate seat as a Democrat rather than run with Kerry. I’m personally still seething that Kerry gave up so easily and conceded the election without even trying. Especially considering the fact that he knew what was at stake…. Look at us now!

  6. Randy says:

    Taco Loco,

What was Kerry supposed to do? Repeat Gore’s mistake of contesting an outcome that was obvious after the second and third recount? He at least was a gentleman and knew when to throw in the towel.

  7. james says:

There come the stupid comments about electability and “oh, he should’ve done that.” What about the things the guy is saying. He is clearly the only one with the vision, strength, and intelligence to legislate progressive ideals.

Conservatives vote based on who they believe in, whose ideas they agree with…not on superficial things like “oh, he has no elected power.” Bush was a one term Governor! Conservatives vote based on convictions and that is why we win.

Progressives continue to look into trivial political things in their candidates.. rather than their ideas, convictions, and beliefs. Kerry was supposed to be the most electable guy out of the pack…. yet we never understood his philosophy at the deepest level.

So, please… let’s think what are candidates want to do and fight for… rather than complain about superficial concerns.

  8. Dartanyon says:

Taco Loco, I’m with you. Cousin Kerry conceded 18 hours after the polls closed in Ohio despite rampant charges of voter shenanigans, a la, Florida.

Maybe this is what happens when you run against a fellow Skull and Bonesman?

  9. Gary Kleppe says:

What was Kerry supposed to do? Repeat Gore’s mistake of contesting an outcome that was obvious after the second and third recount?

What the heck are you talking about? NORC proved that Gore would’ve won had the votes being counted. And that’s not even including all of the alleged-but-not-actual felons who had been illegally disenfranchised by the Bushies.

In Kerry’s case, there was and is a mountain of evidence that the Bushies cheated in just about every way imaginable. See freepress.org. Kerry did nothing. I don’t call that gentlemanly, I call it at best wimpy, and at worst complicit.

  10. Ohioan says:

Good news from the “Ownership Society” …. Tyco execs gets 8 to 25 in prison …

  11. Keith H. says:

I’m guessing Kerry’s bunch knew who it was going to be handed to from the start.

  12. Gary Kleppe says:

Conservatives vote based on who they believe in, whose ideas they agree with…not on superficial things like “oh, he has no elected power.” Bush was a one term Governor! Conservatives vote based on convictions and that is why we win.

Actually, you win by using rigged Diebold machines and by disenfranchising people likely to vote against you.

But I actually agree with the larger point you were making. We Democrats need to stop worrying about “electability” and start nominating people whom we can trust to honestly represent our views and interests.

  13. Taco Loco says:

Conservatives vote based on convictions and that is why we win?

I thought Bush said he wasn’t into Nation Building. I thought conservatives believed in fiscal responsibility.

  14. Taco Loco says:

P.S. If what you say is true, then your convictions have no honor.

  15. Marie says:

    #12, Gary,
We agree. Rigged machines, disenfranchised voters were proven facts in the 2000 election. I don’t know why Kerry conceded so readily – he just doesn’t seem to have the fire and courage of his youth.

  16. Marie says:

I like Edwards – I liked what he said in 2004, but that is history now and while I am happy that he is continuing to draw audiences, I don’t know where it can lead. Now if the rest of the Democrats would speak out like Bill Clinton has over this weekend, we might have something to talk about.

  17. Skid says:

    Off topic:

Cindy Sheehan was just arrested for rally without permit in NY?

    More to come I suppose.

  18. Ryan Neat says:

“Conservatives vote based on convictions and that is why we win?”

Conservatives vote on greed, selfishness, fear and hatred… The reason you ‘win’ is that you cheat because you believe the ends justify the means… Any ‘convictions’ you may have are around the righteousness of your criminal acts – but that’s about it. You’re a big bunch of stupid lying hypocrits!

  19. Marie says:

“Conservatives vote based on convictions and that is why we win?”
You are delusional. Conservatives vote for reasons of greed, racial prejudice and self-centeredness; on a social level, they vote for limits on individual freedoms, their religious leaders’ instructions, and their need for power – and we all know money = power.

  20. Taco Loco says:

I just read the report on Cindy… SCARY! I hope she is OK! Many thoughts and prayers for her safety and well-being.

  21. Jennty says:

Kerry was a pussywimp. He never stood up to the not so swiftboat vets. He never challenged the smear, he just took it. He never actually gave Bush a whatfor. Worse still, he voted FOR the war. Instead of explainint the vote and his reasons for it he gave ammo to the republican smear machine by that “I voted for it before I voted against it” bullcrap. He was a crappy candidate. Spineless, but better than the Lier in Chief, er Commander in Thief, er the idiot we’re stuck with now.

God, I pray that the Dem’s pull their heads out of their asses. They need to start getting a message, and sticking to it. They need to get organized and come up with a reason, ANY reason for the population to not vote for the NeoCon’s in 06 and in 08. The DUHbuhya empire builders have bungled, tripped, gaffed, smirked, and blundered their way through the last 5 years. People just need a REASONABLY viable alternative. To paraphrase that 80s movie “Heartbreak Ridge”. America is looking for a few good men… unfortunately they ain’t it.

If the Dems can scrape up a viable candidate with clean hands in the Iraq fiasco, they have a chance to capitalize on the utter disaster that has been the Bush Dynasty. If not, We are SKEEeerued.

  22. Ryan Neat says:

And yet according the the exit polls, Kerry won the election by 3 million votes. Remember that when you want to beat up kerry. The other side cheats because they’re treasonous and unamerican – and that’s the real issue.

  23. Pamela says:

I like Edwards and his statements. Perhaps his words will motivate those who want a change. What happened in the past, Gore and Kerry, doesn’t really matter now, does it? We need to change the present in order to prepare for the future. That is what should be discussed here. Shouldn’t we leave the political diatribes to those that focus on simply that and not working to help our country, our world and our citizens? JE may not have a chance in the election in 2008; however, he needs to motivate voters towards change sooner. Hopefully, he can do that.

  24. Jennty says:

Ryan, it doesn’t surprise me. Given what a disaster Shrub is. However, Kerry is still a pussywimp for not bothering to follow up on it. If he had the guts, maybe he wouldn’t have needed to depend only on Ohio. Face it, he was a sub optimal candidate. Edwards would have been much better, hell I can think of several who would have been better. Kerry seemed to just give up at the end, and why not? He still had a job as a Senator. I didn’t vote FOR Kerry as much as it was a vote AGAINST Bush. I think MOST folks were like that.

  25. Taco Loco says:

Radical Conspiracy Theory: With the right-wing’s amazing ability to manipulate the mass media to their liking, what if THEY actually operated to insure that Kerry, a very BEATABLE candidate, was selected as the democratic contender? If so, I guarantee you that they are already thinking about who THEY would like to be the next democratic candidate so they are insured a victory.

  26. Mary Poppin says:

I think Edwards would of had more of a chance than Kerry of winning the presidency. I would of voted for Edwards for President. I voted for Kerry and was surprise he did not win.
Edwards had more in common with the average american family because his parents worked for a living.
He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I hope who ever the Dems pick in 2008 can win.

  27. Pablo in Mexico says:

#1 – What an idiot post. John Edwards has nothing to do whatsoever with his states HIV plan.

He is not in local or state government idiot.

  28. Ryan Neat says:

    Taco,

They did manipulate the press. In fact the ‘dean scream’ was created by a directional microphone that drowned out the crowd noise he was screaming above. It made it look like he was just a screaming madman, but apparently the video footage with the background noise makes everything look quite normal. Only the video with the directional audio was ever shown in the mainstream media – that’s a smear and manipulation.

Now that being said, according to post election analysis Kerry won with over 3 million votes. So in otherwords they had already lost the american people and kerry won despite their efforts to manipulate the press and the election.
