One week ago, the Office of Women’s Health of the FDA “sent an e-mail notice to women’s groups and others announcing the appointment of Norris Alderson as its new acting director.” Immediately, eyebrows were raised. Alderson was a Mike Brown-redux — an “FDA veteran trained in animal husbandry who spent much of his career in the agency’s Center for Veterinary Medicine”:
Three days after the Alderson announcement, the FDA main press office sent out a very different announcement. It said that 20-year FDA veteran Theresa A. Toigo would be the new acting director of the women’s health office. … Alderson — and the statement announcing his appointment — was never mentioned.
Asked yesterday who exactly was running the office, FDA spokeswoman Suzanne Trevino said that Alderson had never been appointed acting director. She said that Toigo would take over from the departed Wood, and that her office knew nothing about the statement regarding Alderson, who is the agency’s associate commissioner for science.
Alderson had never been appointed acting director? Then what explains this, on the Office of Women’s Health website?
(P.S. It’s since been deleted.)

I’m guessing it had something to do with this:

September 20th, 2005 at 4:21 pmJust another little factoid indicating that they really don’t know what they are doing in the White House. Their people are incompetent and/or unqualified.
September 20th, 2005 at 4:25 pmThe whole point was for them to be incompetent.
September 20th, 2005 at 4:28 pmHeaven forbid something works properly
FOR THE PEOPLE in this government.
It’s like toddlers who lie about eating the brownies (no pun intended) with chocolate all over their faces. Eventually the lies pile up so high, again like children, that they just can’t overcome it. If he were smart (please everyone, stop laughing for a moment), he would appoint some really intelligent (hell, he can ask Clinton if he doesn’t know anyone) people that are really capable. Especially someone fairly liberal or even a moderate repub and let them clean up a bit. Even if they don’t do anything and just have great credentials, he could, possibly, start a little rehabilitation.
But he won’t. He will keep “paying back” all of the power hungry stooges that bought him this election. He is truly pathetic. He just can’t help it. It’s actually painful to watch.

September 20th, 2005 at 5:31 pmDrew’s post at the top is really depressing. Just who is the FDA protecting by confiscating 400,000 MRE’s from England and thousands of others from Spain and Italy? It is one thing to suggest that the “meat” in them might be suspect, but to confiscate vegetarian meals under that rubric seems too disingenous to be viewed as an oversight. How much wealth is going to be generated in those no-bid contracts to Halliburton for their MRE’s versus how much the US taxpayer saves by passing on the Euro ones?

Why do we let BushCo off the hook like this through soft-pedaled words such as “spin?” A lie is a lie. Call it a lie. Don’t call it “spin.”
CORRECTED: “Google Cache Thwarts Bush LIE Machine.”
September 20th, 2005 at 7:25 pm“Bravo Ryan, hope they ban the nut job”
I hope they jail him. It’s one thing to have dissent, it’s another to threaten to kill someone. The second scenario comes from a dangerous psychotic, and it isn’t free speech…
September 20th, 2005 at 7:34 pmThat’s very true Ryan, do hope that is done, given our world today it may not happen, but I hope…..Blessings
September 20th, 2005 at 8:08 pmSharon,
That’s true - but this offense can be prosecuted either locally or federally. Making internet threats to kill have landed several people in jail - and it is a felony so the crazy fascist will be inelidgible to vote. That would be an appropriate piece of karma!
September 20th, 2005 at 8:35 pmWhat’s scary are the millions of “folks” who buy all the lies … hook, line sinker, and shrub. Mindless minions …
September 20th, 2005 at 8:55 pmRyan, that is very true. Did not know that (it) could be prosecuted. Glad and hopeful, know it is a felony to threaten someone but did not know how it could be accomplished. Say how many diffrent names was (it) using.? I use the term it as I have no idea of the gender for sure. Seems several of the trolls are missing now. How nice and good Karma indeed.Thank’s for stepping up and handling the problem for us all..Blessings
September 20th, 2005 at 9:02 pmFunny. I got an email (junk mail) from Ken Mehlman - it started “Dear Carl” (er, my name is Tim) - and it went on to blather about GOP crap. I wonder, was dear Ken distracted when he sent this email? *laugh*
As for the spin - I wish I knew of a way to combat it - I talk with my (unfortunately repub) sister and brother-in-law, and they don’t get it - they still sorta like Bush - and blame Clinton for everything.
September 20th, 2005 at 9:20 pmOne of my favorite films is the Marx Brothers classic, “A Day at the Races” where Groucho plays Dr. Hugo Z. Hackenbush, a veterinarian (a horse doctor, to be precise). Dr. Hackenbush is called upon to treat the hypochondriac widow, Mrs. Standish, played by Margaret Dumont. A good part of the comedy in the film results from the confusion caused by a horse doctor dealing with women’s health. Little did I realize that I would live to see this farce played out in the realm of public policy. Only Groucho is a lot funnier.
September 20th, 2005 at 9:21 pmMrTimPA,
Some people are without hope, your family may qualify for that status. Once entrenched, conservatives can be stubbornly stupid and irrational. They have no problems with lies as long as the lies tell them what they want to hear.
September 20th, 2005 at 9:23 pmSara,
The only troll was MrWrong in another thread where he threatened to put a gun to Brians head and kill him. I made a plea to the moderator to call the FBI and/or his ISP and report him as a terrorist…
Comment by Ryan “only the fax” Neat
I think it would be kind of nice if you posted the content of your “plea”. Do that and I’ll post the content of my note to you turning you down when you asked for deviant sex with my dog. How would that be?
September 20th, 2005 at 9:38 pm#40, Yes, this is like a tragic-comedy. Marx Brothers (Rummy, Chertoff, Cheney), Keystone Kops (FEMA), with Edgar Bergen (Rove) and Charlie McCarthy (Dubya) thrown in. If all of this were not so serious, it would be funny.
September 20th, 2005 at 9:44 pmMrWrong is repressed sexually and hates himself so bad that he wants to kill anyone who doesn’t agree with him. He threatened Brian and the rest of us ‘liberals’ that he’d put a gun to our heads and pull the trigger. This is one one of the other threads…
And last night he posted racist diatribes from a white supremacy website. He’s clearly part of the KKK maniac crew, and one creepy screwed up guy. What a horrible and abusive childhood he must have had to become such a freak and loser….
September 20th, 2005 at 10:30 pmSpeaking of the spin machine. I was reading about how the whole school bus spin thing happened. Someone calculated that it would take 2000 buses to remove just the elderly and sick from new orleans. Somehow one of the right wingers (I think it was hannity) thought that number sounded good so he said that they had 2000 buses in new orleans that weren’t used. That spread through the whole press spin cycle all of the way until supposedly LIBERAL media people were saying the same thing because it had been repeated so many times. The problem is it was a lie from the beginning!
New Orleans doesn’t even have 2000 school buses! Between city and school buses, they have only 500 each holding only 40 people. And that number did not calculate the 10s of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of other people who did not have a car or other means of transportation. In otherwords it was a lie based on information that wasn’t even relevant to the information stated. Many of the buses apparently were used for ferrying people to and from the shelters as well as a few for exiting from the city, but frankly there just wasn’t enough transportation available to leave.
And this is how the rightwing propaganda machines work. They fixate on a point or a number (in one of the other threads it was the bogus claim that entitlements for the poor have cost 6 trillion dollars when in fact it’s more like 700 billion) and they ask you to justify based on this ‘fact’ how liberals are awful. It never dawns on the dopes who are fed this that maybe the facts themselves are flat out lies. And yet, these lies are repeated as truths by the media echo and propaganda system. This technique was used by the Nazis and it duped a nation - I’m shocked at how effective it appears to be for republicans. They truly are the stupidest part of our population.
September 20th, 2005 at 10:45 pm“I think it would be kind of nice if you posted the content of your “pleaâ€. Do that and I’ll post the content of my note to you turning you down when you asked for deviant sex with my dog. How would that be?”
And we have a classic example of the dysfunction that is the republican. Because he was clearly raised in an abusive family, Mr Wrong threatens to ‘lie’ to get you in trouble if you’re honest about what he’s done. This is common in alcoholic or abusive relationships, and it’s often the tactic that adults and priest use to get their molested victims to keep quiet. It’s also consistent with what happens when the republicans get caught. For instance with katrina they failed, so they start a lie campaign to shut up those who tell the truth.
MrWrong in his delusional state says he believes his party is telling the truth - and yet he wilfully lies just like they do. I think he’s clear that his side lies, he just prefers to keep company with like individuals. Liars, theives and soulless bastards. They’re the only company he’s worthy of…

Comment by Ryan “call me Sis” Neat
You certainly are a vindictive old queen aren’t you? I’m not at all surprised you know how the queers that lied their way into the clergy get little boys. It sounds like the voice of experience to me. Does it work on little Cub Scouts too?
Speaking of soulless bastards, you never did tell us who your “Wicked Uncle Ernie” was. Who got your cherry Ryan?
September 21st, 2005 at 9:21 amHey, IRI, enough with the psychotic ramblings. Ryan doesn’t care if you think he is gay or not - whether he is or not. Dude, it doesn’t bother him. It does, however, bother me a bit. It is annoying to see your venom before my third cup of coffee. Gay this, gay that, for goodness sakes, enough.
You know how this makes you look don’t you? Making beastiality references and all, really tacky and quite telling. So, for the sake of progression, let’s keep this little “problem” you have toned down just a skosh. K?
You can’t really make a valid argument, or try, if every other comment is about Ryan’s ass. I’m sure it’s lovely, but I believe that is a different site you are looking for. And, to me, gay is a nonissue. I just don’t care.

September 21st, 2005 at 11:49 amI’m a little lost. How is President Bush involved? I thought this was from FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford. Does he now need Presidential approval for anyone he posts? I did a Google on “Norris Alderson fda director” and found nothing saying he was acting director after Sept 16th, the day of the supposed election. However, Here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/ pp2/ portal/ media/ pressreleases/ pr-050916-fda.xml
September 21st, 2005 at 11:57 amit reads, “This morning FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford appointed a man who has spent the majority of his career in the office of veterinary medicine to the position of acting director of the Office of Women’s Health. By this afternoon, Dr. Norris Alderson had been replaced with a Ms. Teresa Toigo.” So the emails and the website posting were mistakes. I don’t see the “spin” unless I’m missing something here. Unless this is another which-hunt.
The link from Dkos has the time-change on the website as being only a few hours. “A few hours after the Food and Drug Administration posted on its Web site an announcement naming Dr. Norris E. Alderson, an expert in animal science, acting director of the Office of Women’s Health, the posting was replaced with an announcement naming Theresa A. Toigo to the post. The new new director is a career employee with a strong backgound in cancer and HIV/AIDS.”
September 21st, 2005 at 12:14 pmI’m thinking there wasn’t even a name plaque made ;-)
Although the internet and email is much quicker. Was he really *ever* technincally the acting director?
IRI is a Nazi (with a capital N):
“cancer also became an important social metaphor, as the Nazis portrayed Jews and other “enemies of the Volk” as tumors that must be eliminated from the German body politic.” http://www.pupress.princeton.edu/titles/6573.html
IRI: “The Filthy Left in this country is a cancer and The Vast Right Wing Christian Conspiracy is the cure. We’ll win because we’re smarter and better than you. Oh, and we have all the guns. Losers, all your ass are belong to us.”

He/She must be homebound, advanced AIDS is my guess but whatever the reason he/she apparently has the time and obviously enjoys me putting my boot up his/her ass. Get up earlier? That is so stupid. What were you thinking when you wrote that? Do you know how juvenile that statement is? Someone can get up at 5am and not have coffee until 10am. Is that something that you didn’t think of? Maybe someone can get up at 10am and work until 2am. Did you not think of that either? Are you that dumb? Or, do you just not care that you sound dumb?
Again what do you want here, party crasher?
