  1. Zookeeper Says:

Duh. Took them a while to figure it out. Georgie’s problem is that he wants to create a “climate” of honesty and integrity — not the reality.

  2. afterthought Says:

Well, the good news is it is up tp 50%,
the bad news is that it is lower than 80%
(I figure there are 20% that can’t be reached
    inside “fox-world”)?

  3. Patriot Says:

    Bush lies are bad medicine.
Bad medicine is what we need.

  4. meg_mac Says:

lies or scripted mis-information its all the same. americans have to start reading and making decisions based upon many different views. instead they come home from work, crack a beer and watch fox news the news program for all the ‘facts’. then they go to church on sunday and let the minister tell them how to think and vote. mindless numbnuts!!!

  5. David B Says:

“How do you know when the President is lying? When his lips are moving.”

  6. S.D. Says:

    Only Half??

  7. Zookeeper Says:

“How do you know when the President is lying? When his lips are moving.”

Or when he’s breathing. Or when he’s standing upright. Or when he’s blinking. Whatever…

  8. Drew Mackenzie Says:

But he’s not lying. It’s true. Chang told him so.

  9. Citizen80203 Says:

Now this has got to be cemented and reinforced into every mind. It must be remembered until 2008 and used in 2006.

  10. AvengingAngel Says:

And here we all thought George W. Bush was “Mr. Personality.”

  11. Electric-Escape.net Says:

    Stuff You Should Read

Dateline: Planet Duh. Now what about the other half?

  12. kjlovell Says:

    #1 took my comment!

Only half? I don’t quite believe that poll. It was probably calculated with diebold equipment.

  13. Marina Architect Says:

Fuck the polls: get this through your heads.

40% is the new majority and it’s not mass popularity but loyalty that got Bush re-elected. It’s all about loyalty: that’s why even a 40% approval rating is enough to get you in office. Unbelievable. You can never shake Bush’s 40% base no matter what. Even after the tons and tons of lies. Dems need to focus on their 40% base and write off the other 60%.

That’s what Bush does with the phony Jesus BS. This guy is a recovering alcoholic that panders exclusively to his base. That’s what Dems need to do.

Forget moderation if you want to win elections. Double down on your 40% base and you will succeed in getting into office. That’s what we are missing.

  14. progressive and proud Says:

I think the average sheep are starting to get a clue. There are, of course, always some who just can’t admit they were wrong.

  15. Darth Filibustrous Says:

… and the other half think Bush is is a pathological liar ??

  16. Ryan Neat Says:

Only half think he isn’t honest - man the other half are either clueless or stupid! I guess that’s what happens when you get home schooling and a declining education system - even a howdie doodie doll with rove’s hand up his butt can fool them!

  17. Ron Says:

I’ve taken to calling him Pinochio.
    The little wooden liar.
Seems that the story ends a little different though.
Looks like the mean circus puppetmaster (cheney) must have killed Gepetto and kept him in chains.

  18. mparker Says:

The other half just think he’s stupid.

  19. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

    Check out Zogby:
    http://www.zogby.com/ features/ featuredtables.dbm?ID=42

It seems that Bush the Stupid really took a hit starting in late 2003. If you have a graphing application, cut and paste the numbers and see just how well the President is NOT doing.

How could we let electronic voting machines choose this guy for us? Everyone was asleep in 2000 and again in 2004! :-(

  20. e_five Says:

Just 42 percent said he cares about people like themselves, and 47 percent called him honest and trustworthy.
It still amazes me. Bush could kill and eat a child on national television and he’d still have an approval rating in the mid thirties.

  21. afterthought Says:

There is no “reality service” in fox-world.
Is all blocked out by a Faraday cage.

  22. Dartanyon Says:

Bush isn’t honest. Bush is a sociopath and sociopaths aren’t wired for the truth.

  23. Keith H. Says:

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.” —George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

    One of Junior’s honest statements.

  24. Librul Texun Says:

Truly, I wonder if Bush IS being dishonest. Remember his deer-in-the-headlights response to Pelosi’s demand to fire Brownie? His befuddled response of, “Why? What went wrong?” Bush’s disconnect is so profound he actually believes what he states…most of the time.

  25. Marie Says:

I am surprised that half of them still think he’s honest when there is so much proof to tne contrary.

  26. Jay Says:

“Not honest”? I’ll bet you could poll Americans with the question: “If George Bush admitted that he lied us to war to steal Iraqi oil and he intends to consolidate the nations wealth further into the pockets of the extremely wealthy by repealing the estate tax, war-profiteering and privatizing all remaining social programs, would you still vote for him?” 40% of Americans would say yes. fukkin eejits!

  27. Mikey Says:

It’s very disturbing to me that only half don’t think he’s dishonest. That is very telling of the success of the GOP propaganda (brainwashing) machine, or maybe it’s indicative of how gullible half of Americans are. I’d like to see that poll broken down into political affiliation, economic status, education level, and religion.

  28. Koolhandluke Says:

It’s about time people woke up a smelled the coffee. I could have told them W wasn’t honest the minute I laid eye on him. After all the way you tell if a politician is lying is, if his lips are moving.

Only those idiots in Ohio didn’t get it. They aren’t very smart either. What fool would vote for a man how lied about WMD, took advantage of the worlds biggest screw up (9-11) and had a fair economy at best.

All they could see was the lies he told to fool thems into voting for them. I hope Gas prices in Ohio go up to $25 a gallon, they deserve it for being dumb. No we (the rest of the Country) has to pay for their stupidity.

Hey Buckeyes remember the 200 Billion dollar surplus Bill Clinton left W, yeah that’s right it’s gone. I guess it’s Bill Clinton fault for leaving the biggest budget surplus in history to a bunch for stupid Republican.

Keep voting Republican Ohio, at the rate they (Republicans) are spending money, will soon end up back in the stone age. Or be own by China, Saudi Arbia, Japan and South Korea. I hope you fools can speak one those languages. Fortunably I can speak Korean so maybe they will give me a job translating when they take over. If you don’t know how the government gets it’s money, they borrow it from the Countries in mention above. Don’t believe it Ohio? Better ask somebody!!! http://WWW.plainnews.blogspot.com

  29. robert pooolemos Says:

only 50 percent think he is dishonest??? geezuz the country is really in trouble far worse than we imagined!

  30. Clyde the Ripper Says:

    #29

Please, you misunderstand those good “Christian” Bible-thumping hypocrites. Just as they misunderstand the religious principle of tithing. It is supposed to be 10% for the Lord and 90% for the good Christians to to the work of the Lord here on earth. In Ohio, as in most other BTH Red States it is 10% for the rich and 90% for the Lord’s Corporations and Good-Old-Boys. The rest of us may get our cut in Hell. With that kind of meaningless mathematical mentality it is no wonder that some people see him as honest because they have never been told what honesty truly is, nor what is is for that matter. Remember: Stupid is as Stupid does.

  31. Teri DiCicco Says:

Another one percent and WE have a mandate!!!

  32. kjlovell Says:

#24, probably the only honest thing he as ever said in his life.

  33. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

How does a low approval rating of a final term president help you win elections? Can anyone name the presidents in last 50 years who actually had LOWER approval ratings? It means nothing.

Most Americans think lefty blogs have tried so many times to destroy Bush and have failed. Using misinformatoin, paranoid conpiracy theories, lies and an agenda of defamation, not of solutions, is not working. The mainstream is not with you anymore. Using people like Cindy Sheehan, then discarding them when proven to have no affect exposes your real agenda. It’s not about policies that will make America stronger is it? It’s about constantly focusing on the failures and imperfections of our system of government. Most people can cope with it. We know we can vote for a change in few years. But you can’t. The Paranoid Mentality sets im.

The mainstream is looking for real ideas not irrational concepts that solve nothing. You only have a couple of years to come up with something better or once again the Democratic party is going to discard all you so-called progressives.

  34. fraud Says:

#29 “Only those idiots in Ohio didn’t get it. They aren’t very smart either.”

Whoa! As a lifelong Ohio resident I resemble that remark!

Driving around last election day it was very easy to tell which precincts that lying theiving slimeball Blackwell considered ‘red’, and which he thought were ‘blue’. Just look for the lines headed down the block and off around the corner. The machine that recorded more votes for Bush than there were people who used the machine was maybe 5 miles from where I was staying at the time.

Most of my relatives live in a poor, rural, religious county. Church gossip after the election was puzzlement at how “that lying anti-Christian Bush” could possibly have carried the county.

You do know which two states Diebold calls home, correct?

It’s called election fraud folks, and we *are* trying to correct the situation .. http://www.reformohionow.org/.

  35. Ryan Neat Says:

    fraud,

Well said! I heard that you guys indicted two of the criminals a couple of weeks ago involved in this - and that more are coming. Keep up the good work, and those of us from other states encourage your noble efforts!

  36. Jay Says:

    # 34 Foxtrot,

Huh? Most Americans don’t even know what a blog is let alone use the internet as a tool for finding the truth, so your full of crap right from the go. Please direct me to the misinformation and conspiracy theories you’ve identified at this site. I’ll even help you out: they don’t exist, so that is your second misinformed load of blather. On your point regarding the left having no ideas and only hate for the right to offer the American people…..another clueless rightwing talking point. If you pulled your head out of your FoxNews induced stupor you might find that there are MANY, EXCELLENT ideas coming from the left (and a number of the smart, frequent visitors to this site have spelled them out in great detail) and a number of them have been espoused and even originated right here. John Kerry had two excellent ideas that he proposed during his campaign…..but they didn’t backup all those riveting mainstream media storylines like: he looks French or he somehow managed to fake his Vietnam experience, so you didn’t hear much about them.

That’s three strikes buddy, I think you’re out.

  37. deegahl Says:

What the hell took so long??

I was shocked that the American people were surprised to see the president being so angry during the debates last year. Since I and other Think Progress people pay close attention, I expected to see him act like a child.

  38. Pete Says:

Is it a surprise that you can’t please everybody? President Clinton had a disapproval rating of 67% during the Lewinski episode that really shouldn’t have surprised that many people. In 2004 with Clinton’s book tour, they did a poll of his past Presidency. They were split evenly on Clinton “as a person.” 49% disappoval rating. Yikes.

  39. skeptic Says:

Pete - “President Clinton had a disapproval rating of 67% during the Lewinski episode”

Odd, am not able to find any sign of support for this claim. What I can easily find (google is your friend) ..

“Bush could use the work. After hitting an all-time low in Gallup last week, the president just set a new personal worst in the latest Washington Post–ABC News poll. His ratings of 53 percent disapproval and 41 percent strong disapproval top Clinton’s career highs of 51 percent and 37 percent.”

    .. and ..

Trend of Bill Clinton’s job performance ratings as President (among registered voters)
    Approve Disapprove No opinion
    Apr. ’98 64% 30 6
    Mar. ’98 61% 30 9
    Feb. ’98 65% 28 7
    Nov. ’97 51% 43 6
    Aug. ’97 55% 38 7
    May ’97 54% 35 11
    Feb. ’97 54% 33 13
    Sept. ’96 57% 35 8
    Feb. ’96 55% 37 8
    May ’95 42% 46 12
    Feb. ’95 45% 43 12
    Oct. ’94 51% 42 7

Oddly enough, if by “the height of Lewinski” you mean the impeachment and trial, it appears that was when when Clinton’s approval was bouncing around near-record *highs*, not lows.

  40. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

You’re not throwing strikes Jay. Here’s an example if the irrational left getting caught spreading misinformation and you’re guilty of being a useful idiot. You even provided a link to Broussards video of his shameful appearance on MTP on crooksandliars on thinkprogress’s thread.
    http://thinkprogress.org/index.php?s=BROUSSARD

Now here’s the truth. You should check your facts buddy before claiming you’re hitting the strike zone. HAHAHAHAHA!
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9368952/

  41. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

Now for a little context that thinkprogress chooses to ignore. (See Paranoid Mentality. Google is waiting for you).
Bush looks pretty good compared to Clinton on the same question. From a poll taken at the end of his final term. Holy ship high in transit!!

Yet this is also a president with truly dismal personal ratings: Sixty-seven percent of Americans say he’s not honest and trustworthy. Seventy-seven percent say he lacks high moral and ethical standards. And just 44 percent view him favorably “as a person.”
    http://abcnews.go.com/ sections/ politics/ DailyNews/ poll%5Fclintonlegacy010117.html

  42. skeptic Says:

Some of the bits Charlie “forgot” to mention ..

    “End-of Presidency Job Approval Ratings
    Bill Clinton (2001) 65%
    Ronald Reagan (1989) 64
    Dwight Eisenhower (1961) 59
    John F. Kennedy (1963) 63
    George Bush (1993) 56
    Gerald Ford (1977) 53
    Lyndon Johnson (1969) 49
    Jimmy Carter (1981) 34
    Richard Nixon (1974) 24

On some specifics Clinton’s final ratings soar higher still. Sixty-seven percent say he’s been a strong leader. Sixty-eight percent approve of his work on foreign affairs; on race relations, 73 percent approve; and on the economy — the mainstay of his overall approval — 76 percent endorse Clinton’s performance.”

Article Charlie links to has various other up/down stats, for anyone who cares to go look.

My take .. In his first 2 years Bush managed to achieve something I would have sworn was flat-out impossible, he made that slimeball Slick Willie seem relatively honest, conservative, and competent.

  43. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

Skeptic, this thread is about the question the presidents honesty, and on that question 67% thought Clinton was dishonest. I didn’t forget anything, that’s why I provided the link so you could see the whole story. You can’t deny that you have been mislead by the premise of this thread when looking at the question of honesty in context with other presidents.

  44. skeptic Says:

    Charlie,

You are correct, and politely take me to task. No snark; I appreciate it.

I would like to see a side-by-side month-to-month comparison of the two “gentlemen” in question. Personally I consider both to have proven themselves to be more dishonest than a shady used car salesman.

  45. Jay Says:

So Foxtrot, let me get your logic straight. Broussard went on Meet the Press days after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast to tell his tale and Thinkprogress posted its related thread on Sept. 4th. A single story hits the MSNBC website 16 days later that counters the timeline and that somehow invalidates the Thinkprogress thread, the human reaction to Broussards meltdown and his authenticity? The woman died, Broussard was a damn wreck and was probably having a nervous breakdown at the time of the Russert interview and the right pulls a Richard Clarke/Joe Wilson on this guy? You people have no shame. In fact, it’s a ridiculous reach on your part. Don’t you get it a**hole, everyone that makes this administration look like the incompetent criminals that they are (intentionally or not) gets railroaded by the lying weasels of the rightwing blogosphere. When the game is bigger, the hunters that wield the guns reside in the White House.

If you believed wholeheartedly in the truth behind your movement, I sincerely doubt you’d be debating such minutiae on a liberal blog with me. So what brings you here my badly misinformed strikeout victim?

  46. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

    S,
I’m interested in gathering information from the right and left, then challenging the knowledge of bloggers. I don’t berate anybody, yet I get berated for doing it. Anyways, you may need to register to read this article, but I will also summarize data in a chart included in the article. The source was the Gallup Organization, I have yet to find it there.

  47. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

    Yes Jay,
That was a clear example of the Paranoid Mentality…the problem with the left. Blaming the administration before having the facts. Thinkprogress, Broussard and you are guilty of it. Google is waiting for you.

  48. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

Jay, I like your rebuttal - calling me an a**hole. Angry lefty…you just proved my point and contradicted your statement.

“On your point regarding the left having no ideas and only hate for the right to offer the American people…..another clueless rightwing talking point.”

  49. Jay Says:

    Foxtrot,

Your counterargument is: That was a clear example of the Paranoid Mentality? You’re going to have to bring something more to the table than that. Wishful thinking and misinformation don’t win any arguments. The rightwing is the very definition of paranoia. According to their spokes hacks, everyone’s out to steal their tax dollars and infiltrate their white, Christian America. Delusion to burn.

Damn right I’m angry and I suspect you would be too if you acknowledged and/or knew the truth. I’m prepared to fight and use my anger to defeat the right, so game is on.

  50. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

Jay, Anger and calling people assholes doesn’t win arguments or elections.

  51. Jay Says:

Just as spin and propaganda aren’t the truth. Your point from the beginning was that Thinkprogress is laced with misinformation and conspiract theories. You gave me one very weak example, where the misinformation was an unheralded dispute over the timeline of the event in question. That’s the best you came up with! Now does this fall under the misinformation or the conspiracy category, in your opinion? I say neither, and you didn’t rebut my claim. So I’m still waiting for a valid example of misinformation or a conspiracy theory? So far you’ve presented zilch. If as you say you’re interested in challenging the knowledge of bloggers, I say you’ve done a piss poor job thus far….but that’s just me.

And BTW, you strike me as an a**hole, how does that undermine my ability to present the truth? I’ll give you another clue: it doesn’t. OK, a**hole.

  52. Fing Sniff Says:

Half of the people in America think Bush is a liar.
YAHOOOOOO!! You did it America! You solved the crime and from now on nothing is going to go wrong because the evil has been destroyed. Now if you can cover a poll that covers Bush the closet case, drunk, coked out villiage idiot that milks horses while talking to god, now that would be a no brainer.

  53. WaltTheMan Says:

W is not a liar, he’s a fabulist. One has to aware of the untruth to be a liar. W believes what he is saying. His handlers are supplying the lies. His brain has been so pickled that he takes them at their word. That’s the reason they keep him away from the news, the polls and protesters.

  54. Aaron Says:

I think they should make a board game called “Clueless” in the spirit of the old board game Clue. The characters would be Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Saddam, Blair, etc. The weapons would be WMD, 9/11, U.S soldiers, Levees, Undercover british posing as Arabs, propaganda, etc. The rooms would instead be different countries around the world. You win by solving the mass murders.

“It was Bush, using 9/11 in New York.”

  55. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

Jay, the truth is, I’m a closet homosexual that has been picked on by all the other kids on the playground and I just want you all to die while I masturbate my coffin thinking about Bush and Dick destroying the world. I know exactly how they feel and I’m in love with those wonderful, wonderful men.

  56. Jay Says:

Foxtrot, whatever works for you buddy. Best of luck.

Aaron, that is a excellent idea. I definitely think it was: Cheney, using a derrick in Tikrit!

  57. Pete Says:

Skeptic, wonder why you’re so sceptical? ;-)lol

Understand ppl, this is nothing but an opinion poll. Stess opinion. Aren’t opinions like a smelly body part???

About half the voters voted for Kerry so these numbers are not so far off from the *voting* opinion. Remember, FDR did not fare so well in his last election.

  58. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

I’m just so frightened by a world that is controlled by the left that I will support any right-wing agenda, regardless of how insane it really is. By admitting that Bush is a liar and a murderer, I’m empowering the left. Don’t you see that???

  59. mighty aphrodite Says:

To the topic, assho*$s! WOW!!! “***Breaking NEWS*** THIS JUST IN!!!!- 50% of the people don’t think Bush is honest!!!!!!!!” How do Americans rate the honesty of the following people:
1.)President Bill “no middle class tax hike” Clinton
2.)Hillary “Bill-ing records” Rodham (You know how she hates using the “surname” Clinton.)
    3.)Sandy “Pants” Berger
4.) “Rev.” Je$$e “I did NOT have sex with that woman - the mother of one of my children” Jackson.
    5.) Teddy “Chappaquidick” Kennedy.
6.) Chris “No more Drinks for ME!” Dodd

  60. Libby Says:

    Hey Koolhandluke,

Don’t bash the good people of Ohio - they had DIEBOLD systems too. They voted for Kerry but the vote went to that other dumbass…

  61. Jay Says:

    aphrodite,

Bill Clinton can’t be blamed for this presidents fu&kups. He handed him a surplus, a sharp warning that terrorism should be a top priority, peace, a prosperous middle class….and the Bushmen blew it all to hell. He ruined this country in 5 short years. Congratulations Bush supporters, you have aided and abetted a war criminal, war-profiteer, and a lying fraud. You’re going to Disney World!

  62. WaltTheMan Says:

All of you miss my point - W has the mental ability of a three-year-old with advanced Alzheimer’s. And that is an insult to three-year-olds and Alzheimer’s victims. You know the situation - “Go up to Santa and sit on his lap.” - “Mama, I’m scared!”

  63. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

Jay, I proved you to be a liar. Get over it.

The real Charlie Foxtrot. Do you know what Charlie Foxtrot means? Huh, pussie?

  64. Jay Says:

Walt, that’s a pretty accurate description of Bush. I’ve never seen a man on a bigger stage with fewer skills. If he wasn’t such a murderous, fraudulent, thief and war-mongering fool….I’d ALMOST feel sorry for him. :)

  65. Pete Says:

    #62
The stock market went in the toilet before President Bush took office.
    #63–http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/24/politics/campaign/24points.html
This article has Bush having a higher IQ than Senator Kerry. Anyone posting here have an MBA? If so, is it from Harvard? I know I don’t. President Bush has that. I’m thinking that doesn’t fit with the “stupid” accusations.

  66. Jay Says:

    Pete,

Are you serious? Did you watch the debates? I don’t care who got his piece of paper from Harvard Business School and who supposedly has an IQ of X….my eyes don’t lie and what they see is utter incompetence and fraud. You may not see that but I do and if Kerry or Clinton or ANYONE else (even my own father) was responsible for the debacle that has been the last 5 years, I’d admit that they were incapable of handling the job of Leader of the Free World. Far too much damage has been done, too many deaths, too much divisiveness and greed. ENOUGH! Now, let’s be adults, admit when we’re wrong, and move on from these dangerous criminals. OK.

  67. Charlie Foxtrot Says:

The real Charlie Foxtrot. I just want to say to the pinko commie bastard that is trying to make me look bad is that this type of crap just proves all the more THAT I AM RIGHT!!! I don’t masturbate in coffins and I didn’t get beat up on any playground. Are you all crazy or WHAT!!! If I had MY WAY, I’d have all of you shot!

  68. mighty aphrodite Says:

#62 - Jay - You should SHARPEN your reading comprehension - NOWHERE in my remarks did I say Mr. Bill was anything except a proven liar. #1 - #6 are attempts to demonstrate that Dems are pretty fast with the truth - it’s called sticking to the topic - don’t be sooooo defensive of the Big Dog.

  69. curt Says:

YEAH BUSH IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT PRESIDENT AMERICA HAS EVER ENCOUNTERED…HE MUST HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE “NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND” KIDS CAUSE THIS ASSHOLE COULD PUT TOGETHER A SSENTENCE WITH OUT SAYING UMMMM UMMM DUHH DUHH…HE AND HE ONLY IS TAKING AMERICA DOWN THE THIRD WORLD ROAD…

  70. Jay Says:

    aphrodite,

I didn’t drag Clinton into the debate (as Bush defenders do with utter predictability)….so I took your comparison one step further. ALL politicians are liars, no bones there. Bill Clinton’s lies were an excuse for the rightwing propaganda machine to swing into action, destroy lives, spend millions of tax-payer dollars on bogus investigations, endless smear and attempted impeachment. George W. Bush and his adminstrations lies have been responsible for an endless stream of death, destruction, wart-profiteering, corruption and divisiveness. George W. Bush’s lies destroyed this country.

I understand there’s an as*hole on this very thread that’s looking for a friend…I think you’d make an excellent choice.

MightyAphrodingy who claims israel was attacked in the 60s war that THEY PRE-EMPTIVELY STRIKED accuses others of playing fast with the truth? I’d say that’s projection, but then again he/she seems incapable of distinguishing her emotions from facts. Being a goddess has made her an angry bitch, but hasn’t seemed to help her enlightment or wisdom one bit…

And while we’re on telling the truth. How about WMDs, or “No one could imagine they’d attack us with airplanes”, despite a memo titled that, or “No one could predict the damage by katrina”, despite FEMA’s report in 2001 that explicitly says it. And unfortunately I could go on all day with the lies of this administration and aphrodite, but lying propagandist like her are always judgemental jerks (I pity her poor husband - he can’t be her first, or he must be the biggest wimp in the world).

If you look at the past and reflect on the publics views on honesty.Clinton didn’t fair any better.48%-46%.Does it matter which is which.I’d say that is half and half.
