Chertoff Thinks Julie Myers is Qualified; Julie Myers Disagrees»

Today on CBS’s “The Early Show” Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff defends the nomination of Julie Myers to head the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Chertoff on Myers:

I don’t think you could find many people with a range of experience and qualifications that she has to address the precise kinds of questions that come up in the customs and immigration enforcement area.

At her confirmation hearing, Myers offered a different perspective:

I realize that I’m not 80 years old. I have a few gray hairs, more coming, but I will seek to work with those who are knowledgeable in this area, who know more than I do.

For more on how Myers is unqualified check out noted left-wing polemicist Michelle Malkin.

I can’t believe that after Mike Brown these people are going to make the same mistake AGAIN. Wake me up when September ends.

  2. Darth Filibustrous Says:

She’s pretty, though. And she neatly presses her clothes, just as Mike Brown does…

  3. S.D. Says:

What a bizarre Situation when this site uses Michele Malkin as a Reference! But it’s good to see that Even she gets it.

  4. afterthought Says:

Is there really no-one competent in Chimpy’s
    “loyalty-bound cronies” group.

  5. progressive and proud Says:

No, afterthought - birds of a feather. I know, sad.

  6. Dumb Fox Says:

#1 - this is no mistake. This is SOP for Bushco.

  7. greg Says:

Didn’t Michelle Malkin’s parents immigrate to America? And now she’s against immigration?

    Wow. That makes sense.

  8. pops Says:

Ever increasing nepotism is crippling this country. It is the result of wealth, and its ensured transfer. America is starting to resemble the ridgid class structure of England.
The best and brightist ALWAYS succeed in Amerika? Largely a thing of the past. I tell my children different, the truth. I point the Bush family as my best example, amongst many others.

  9. twoplustwoisfour Says:

A more experienced director may refuse to serve under Bush II. A competent director may have serious disagreements with rove & co on matters of policy, which is not tolerated in the Bush II regime.

That, and conservative rats like malkin are jumping as far as possible off the sinking ship.

  10. Pablo in Mexico Says:

    TWOPLUSTWO YOU GOT IT!

Even the right wingnuts are staying away from this disaster.

Bushlandia has no qualified people for any opening his administration now has, or may have din the future. So what does the idiot do, appoints political supporters and does not even look over the field.

Bushlandia and Rovelandia need to wise up. Before the 2006 elections Rovelandia may be chased out of town.

  11. P O'Neill Says:

The Richard Myers angle should be getting more play. This is the sap who stands there like a log when Bush says “we have enough troops because if we didn’t have enough troops, the generals would ask for more troops.” He also played along with all the post-Katrina spin on “dodging the bullet” etc. Now we learn he’s tied into the nepotism machine.

  12. ohdave Says:

Malkin is opposed because she wants a blood sucking immigrant shooting wacko.

Pretty poor authority to use, in my humble opinion. I can’t stand the “look, even a Republican agrees with us” line of argument coming from our side. Michelle Malkin agreeing with us in hardly a point in our favor. I’d rather hear that REASONABLE people agree with us.

  13. kjlovell Says:

It looks like everyone that has an I.Q. above 44 has decided to let dumbya and staff sink into a pool of their own sh**t.

That leaves only unqualified corrupt cronies to be appointed to various vacancies such as SP, FEMA and the like.

GOP words: FEMA - Florida Election Management Agency

good luck with your policies mr. pRESIDENT.

  14. Marie Says:

Off topic - but relevant to this White House/Congress:
“Republicans on three separate congressional committees this week derailed three formal “resolutions of inquiry” by Democrats that would have required the Bush administration to turn over sensitive information and records relating to the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame.” Entire article in Village Voice.

What is the story with that picture, please?

  16. Marie Says:

Even the radical nutcase Malkin thinks this is stupid. When will there be a revolt in the Republican party? After all, these are their elected officials, who are embarrassing them, and making a laughingstock of the country and themselves.

  17. Tigris Lily Says:

Michelle Malkin slamming Bush for appointing an unqualified to a high government position? Was she one of those conservatives who defended Bush’s nomination of John Bolton because the president deserves to have the people he wants in these positions? I’ve had raised eyebrows at a lot of his appointments–including those that our Democratic friends in the Senate approved without question.

  18. Andrew Says:

#21 It’s this: “September 20, 2005 | Angela Miller, the wife of Captain Lowell T. Miller II, presents a flag to stepdaughters Danielle, 11, center, and Alexandra, 7. Captain Miller was the 175th person killed in Iraq to be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Thank you Plunger, very informative posts. Boot his a** out now..Blessings

  20. Marie Says:

    Nice report at #14, Plunger.
There can be no reasonable excuse for the appointment of Chertoff and many others made by Bush in these five years - except that he values a “loyalty” pledge. If an appointee crosses Bush, he’s crossed off the list and out of the White Hosue.

  21. Mr. Evil Says:

Let us not leave out as one of the PNAC’s signatories, the forgettable Dan Quayle. Anything he is involved in has to be proof positive that it is an over-the-top, outrageously, ridiculously, retardedly convoluted, cockamamie agenda/philosophy.

The Project for the New American Century is quite possibly the best example of the worst plan ever concocted by an American person and/or group.

  22. Mr. Evil Says:

Oh, and by the way, with regards to this thread, Julie Myers will most probably have an opportunity soon enough to show all of us that she is absolutely unqualified for this appointment. Sorry to be the pessimist, but recent events involving this administration’s (lack of) expertise have led me to believe that the sky will actually fall rather soon!

    Now for the gratuitous insults:
What a bunch of out of touch, moronic boobs! George Bush is a complete and total imbecilic dolt! Cheney is a dick (couldn’t resist that one)! Next thing you’ll hear from one of these dimwits is that reality isn’t real. It’s a trick from those godless scientists.

Our year, 2005 AD… the mentality, about 1005 AD. We need serious help!

  23. Jim Says:

Bed partner and now married to Chertoffs chief of staff she gives new meaning to the head of ICE

I can not agree with you in 100% regarding some thoughts, but you got good point of view
