That’s good. At this point, I don’t want to know.

  2. Mary Poppin says:

What do expect from this government. Halliburton is stealing all the money over there. Their is no accountability for this administration. We can not take care of the american people in the USA. As far as I am concern I don’t owe the people in Iraq a thing. Bring our Troops home now.

  3. good vibes says:

WHAT EVER AMOUNT IT ENDS UP BEING… I SEE SOME SCHOOLS AND PARKS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD THAT COULD USE A PIECE OF THE PIE.

I WALKED IN MY FIRST WAR PROTEST IN DURHAM NC LAST WEEK. IT FELT GREAT TO BE SURROUNDED BY SO MANY LIKE MINDED INDIVIDUALS.

WE WILL BE HEARD IN ‘06

  4. progressive and proud says:

Do they know anything? It seems as though they are totally ignorant with respect to management skills.

  5. Terrytheturtle says:

A reminder, in case in all this excitement, it has been forgotten: the costs of Iraq and Afghanistan, over $200 billion and climbing (pay for itself eh Wolfy?) are NOT counted in the current budget calculations….

  6. meander says:

Notice where the article was printed: Page A23. Why not A1? The Pentagon is not just clueless about their anti-terror expenditures, but about everything. Year after year they are found to be out of compliance with financial management rules. This unaccountability borders on a violation of fundamental principles in the Constitution. The Appropriations and Accountability Clauses in the Constitution, Article 1, Section 9, Clause 7, says, “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.” But how long has it been since Congress has gone after them? 20 years?

    See http://www.d-n-i.net/fcs/spinney_testimony_060402.htm
and http://www.pbs.org/now/politics/spinney.html for more analysis of the financial crimes of the Pentagon.

  7. Darth Filibustrous says:

#2 – Mary Poppin – we owe the Iraqi people:

    1) A huge apology for invading their country and killing 6000 civilians in the first month of bombing.

2)Freeze the U.S.-led reconstruction and turn it over to a joint Arab League – Iraqi process which we HAVE to partially fund in the form of reparations.

And THEN bring our troops home now.

  8. Dumb Fox says:

#5 – The whole episode is Bushco to a T…

    Chapter 1 – Iraq will pay for itself (translation – we haven’t costed the occupation);

Chapter 2 – This is hard work (translation – this is going to cost a lot more than we thought)

Chapter 3 – We’re going to stay the course (translation – we can’t really cost the occupation)

Chapter 4 – Thank you Wolfy for totally mis-underestimating the cost of Iraq. Take a job at the World Bank.(translation – there’s your Medal of Freedom)

  9. Massachusetts Liberal says:

They don’t want to know either. Cheney & Halliburton are calling the shots, and we know how obsessed Big Dick is with secrecy and disinformation. Good points, Darth. We can’t leave without 1), but an apology won’t be forthcoming from this bunch, that’s for sure. So maybe step 1 would be impeachment.

“The probe also found ‘inadvertent double accounting’ by the Navy and Marine Corps from November 2004 to April 2005 amounting to almost $1.8 billion.”

Hmmmmmm. Sounds very creative. Is this how the military covers for Halliburton?

The amazing thing is, the troops STILL don’t have enough protective armor. Should we take up a collection? We better not; we’ll be accused of not supporting the troops.

  10. Keith H. says:

If the Pentagon did have accurate knowledge, they wouldn’t let on.
They would then have to fess up about WHERE the money is going.
They can’t have any accountability occuring this late in their nightmare.

  11. Keith H. says:

Sorry, it looks like Mass. Lib. beat me to that comment.

  12. pinellas says:

Plausible deniability & obfuscation – IOW, as long as things’re allowed to be (mis)managed so incompetently, nobody has the true information, should there be any legal inquiry…..

  13. Pablo in Mexico says:

You dont really expect rumhead to have a handle on anything to do with the Iraq war do you?

The man, and his aides, are worthless. Bush, Rove and Cheney are worthless.

Cheney, as president, has a handle of what is going on but does not want anyone except himself and the board of directions of KBR/Halliburton to knonw.

Cheney has stolen billions from amerika, given it to Halliburton, and they have no accounting whatsoever. They still pay subs from duffle bags of money, no accounting, no nothing.

  14. Massachusetts Liberal says:

Well put Pablo. It’s your basic kleptocracy, like Marcos (George HW’s buddy).

  15. erich says:

Why should we care? We Know it will be less than
    $1.7 Billion tops. http://tinyurl.com/2qyy3

“In terms of the American taxpayers contribution, [$1.7 billion] is it for the US. The rest of the rebuilding of Iraq will be done by other countries and Iraqi oil revenues…The American part of this will be 1.7 billion. We have no plans for any further-on funding for this.” – USAID Director Andrew Natsios, 4/23/03
