Frist and Torture: What Did He Know and When Did He Know It?
Time magazine yesterday revealed new allegations of systematic abuse of Iraqi detainees made by a “decorated former Captain in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.” For months, the Captain says, U.S. soldiers were directed “to conduct daily beatings of prisoners prior to questioning.” In one instance, “a soldier allegedly broke a detainee’s leg with a metal bat.” Other prisoners had “their faces and eyes exposed to burning chemicals.”
The Captain revealed this abuse to Human Rights Watch in July 2005. He also reported his charges to “three senior Republican senators,” including Majority Leader Bill Frist and Sen. John McCain. The torture, he said, was due primarily to “chronic confusion over U.S. military detention policies and whether or not the Geneva Convention applied.”
On July 27, the same month the Captain came forward, Sen. Frist single-handedly derailed a bipartisan effort — led by Sen. McCain — to clarify rules for the treatment of enemy prisoners at U.S. prison camps. In what news reports at the time described as an “unusual move,” Frist “simply pulled the bill from consideration” before it could be debated.
Bill Frist needs to come clean: Was his office told of the “systematic abuse†in the 82nd Airborne before he torpedoed the new detainee laws?

I wrote Mr. Frist a scathing letter of rebuke — which resulted in nothing more than my being added to his newsletter e-mail list, though I do not reside in his state and certainly would not be his constituent if I did. Mr. Frist is such a frail reed that he cannot stand up to the displeasure of the religious right or the Administration. His lack of leadership skills has been repeatedly noted. He’s a “nice Southern boy”. His mission in life is to please all the grown-ups in the room; alas, most of them are are people we don’t want to know with minds so small they are hard-pressed to store their Social Security Numbers and phone numbers. It’s suggested he contemplates a run for the Presidency. God — or whoever or whatever — forfend!

September 24th, 2005 at 4:39 pmit’s all there in black and white and has been for some time… the memorandum written by gen. ricardo sanchez (and later denied under oath in front of the senate armed services committee) that specified interrogation techniques for prisoners in iraq, the waiver of geneva rights for prisoners signed by bush, the undebatable chain of command leading down through rumsfeld and meyers… anything subsequent to those damning documents and clear-cut accountabilities is mere window dressing… i totally fail to understand why the official sanctioning of prisoner torture has not been officially addressed, if not by judicial inquiry at least by making it absolutely transparent to the public through the media… we have truly lost our way…

Clinton is responsible for 9/11, NOLA levees, national debt, taxes, sky rocketing gas prices, and Iraq because he was president before W. I was a reservist, and I know I wasnt trained.
If there was no wrong by bush, Rummy, Sanchez, Miller, etc.., why would Frist have to pull that bill? Why not get things out in the open and have a independant investigation? We all know the gov. doesnt mind spending money, so it cant be worry over that!

Use of torture and other illegal methods is a poor technique that yields unreliable results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the source to say what he thinks the interrogator wants to hear. Revelation of use of torture by U.S. personnel will bring discredit upon the U.S. and its armed forces while undermining domestic and international support for the war effort. It may also place U.S. and allied personnel in enemy hands at a greater risk of abuse by their captors.
In other words, weakening the rules against torture makes us less secure, not more. Torture produces unreliable information, makes it more difficult to win wars, and places our troops at risk.
The 9/11 Commission correctly concluded that the prisoner abuse scandal has damaged our ability to combat the terrorist threat. In the Commission’s words, “Allegations that the United States abused prisoners in its custody make it harder to build the diplomatic, political, and military alliances the government will need.â€

Bill Frist is probably a one-trick pony and had all of his eggs in one basket. He only had HCA stock in his blind trust. His brother gave him a sweetheart deal on the initial sale, it grew to a 35 million dollar investment and he cashed in when he could get the most for his holdings. $35 000 000 / $58 = 603 448 shares of HCA if that is what he had.
I doubt very much if he is sailing his yacht today.
If the truth be told, I doubt very much that he cares one way or the other if US enlisted personnel torture/tortured Iraqis. Butchers and morticians are seldom chosen for jury duty. Make that cat anatomists, too.

I don’t think a little tear gas is torture, even if it’s true. But to answer your question loser I don’t think the Geneva convention applies to men who hide among the population, kill civilians, shoot from behind women and children, blow up school buses and police stations. In fact the Geneva Convention and commonly held international rules of war expressly exclude cold blooded killers like that. When found they are to be taken out and shot like the dogs they are. Why we don’t do that to these monsters is beyond be.

Six Percent
Six percent is the amount of my life I will have spent in Iraq by the end of this deployment. Granted, it is not a large number, but when you think of life as a one-time-only event, suddenly every last moment is precious. Six percent is a lot to have wasted in a perilous and hostile environment. It is a lot of time to have spent betrayed by The Lie. Before I get out of the army, fully twenty percent of my enlistment will have been spent “stop lossed” past the expiration of my contract. More than a year will transpire after I was supposed to have been released from service.
Today marks an especially bitter day for me as I learned from the news (of all places) that my unit’s deployment will be extended until the end of January, making it much longer than the twelve month “maximum”. The Department of Defense says that less than ten thousand soldiers will be affected, and therefore the scope of the extension is very limited. Also, the length of our extension will be shorter than in the past.
That may be true, but it does not make the news any less damaging to me, personally. I have been abused by the army and the country for too long, and now the mistreatment has been extended. This is MY LIFE that they are destroying. Six percent. I’ll never get it back, and there is nothing that they can do to make up for my lost life… but in lieu of an apology and the promise of a speedy return home, I am EXTENDED? I promised Holly that I would be home for my birthday (it would have been the first time we would be together for it), but I was a fool for believing I couldn’t possibly be screwed any more than I had been

Also comments from reporters saying the wind to his back after 9/11, Bush now has wind in his face for his handling of the war in Iraq and delay in response to Katrina and national debt held by china. There has been hospitals and doctors in US exposed not counting experiments run on POWs in Japan and elsewhere in the world. Course we also have Serial killers and etc. that are out there also. However, I cannot see anyone especially a doctor backing torture of anyone. Some of these supporters need to be tortured to see if they will admit to treason against the US. I’d bet they would admit to anything to get the pain to stop. Then we could put them on death row also and leave them there thinking they were to be put to death for a year.
