State Rep. Compares Black Caucus to the KKK, Demands Membership

Tennessee Rep. Stacey Campfield (R) doesn’t take rejection well. After the Tennessee Legislature’s Black Caucus turned down his two requests for membership, Campfield said:

My understanding is that the KKK doesn’t even ban members by race…[and] has less racist bylaws [than the Black Caucus].

In fact, according to the bylaws, caucus is open to non-blacks who support the mission of the Black Caucus:

The regular membership shall consist of those black elected officials serving in the state Senate and House of Representatives.

[H]onorary membership [can be granted to] those persons whose belief and actions contribute to the purpose for which this caucus was formed.

Campfield makes a compelling case for his membership on his blog. He notes that “Many of my friends and neighbors are considered minority” and even posts MLK Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

(His comparison of his fight to exclude liberal thought from college campuses to the fight for the 1964 civil rights act probably didn’t help his cause.)

Stay tuned: FOX News has evidently contacted Campfield for an interview.

    The south is so bizarre.

  2. ohdave says:

Mr. Mehlman has worked so hard to bring African Americans into the Republican fold.

Gee, I wonder why they distrust Republicans so much.

  3. Ugh says:

Er, I don’t about Mr. Campfield, but bylaws that state you can only have “honorary” membership if you’re not black doesn’t seem quite right. Do they have a test for who is black and who isn’t?

  4. Dumb Fox says:

You can’t script this sh*t. A guy who apparently wants to become a member of the Black Caucus compares it to the KKK… Brilliant. Absolutely, effing brilliant.

Anyway, let’s be helpful. On the basis of marketing potential alone, I’d recommend Congressman Campfield for membership of the Log Cabin Republicans.

  5. Patriot says:

It’s 6 degrees of separation of Kevin Bacon. This guy waxes falsely.

  6. Punchy says:

you really ought to read those links dealing with his liberal campus agenda bill. the editor of the university paper who dealt with him has posted all the email correspondence without editing, and to see what this guy writes–the insults, name-calling, the incredible spelling errors–is just astounding. now it makes sense. this guy is a complete ass….

  7. Patriot says:

Next thing you know this honkey cracka will want to play Colonial!

  8. kindness says:

This guy waxes falsies? which is it, Brazillian or good ole landing strip?

Go ahead and pummel me. That was rude and uncalled for. Which is why my twisted sense of humor liked it.

Seriously though, what are this guy’s positions? I guess I could go through the links. Just lazy this am I guess.

I did think that #3 has a point. Most of us here in america are mutts of one kind or another. At what point do you call yourself something?

  9. Ron says:

“Next thing you know this honkey cracka will want to play Colonial!” – Patriot Schmatriot

You have got to be kidding me, right? Racist comments are apparently allowed if it is against a caucasian.

Um… give me a break. Heartless and cruel so-called ‘liberals’ everywhere here.

  10. Patriot says:

He’s wierd. He’s trying for exposure. This is a wasted thread.
Why not thread about Chertoff not funding FEMA, according to Brown?

  11. Patriot says:

You think too much, Ron. You’re going to hurt yourself.

  12. kindness says:

OK Ron, I’ll give you some red meat from your side that I read in this mornings SF Chronicle. Please forgive me all, I’m not trying to hijack a good thread, but it is tangentally related.

Rep Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) wanted to rename a Berkeley Post Office for a 94 year old woman who had been a city councilwoman for 20 years (since retired). This is Berkeley mind you, not Iowa. Well some fool, Rep Steve King (R-Iowa) objected because the 94 year old woman had some leftist associations. When the vote failed (party line) Barbara Lee stated that Rep Kings attacks and unsubstantiated rumors puts him in the same camp as Senator Joe McCarthy. Rep Kings responce? I kid you not, this idiot said “ I think that if Barbara Lee would read the history of Joe McCarthy, she would realize that he was a hero for America.

Now I don’t know about any of you, but when republicans start saying Joe McCarthy is some kind of hero, I would say that we fought WWII for no reason. I say that because from the appearances of the Republican Party, (bushco included) the nazi’s have won and are now running the show.

When is Joe Sixpack republican gonna tell their leaders that they don’t represent what they think? Uhhh, never. But I think we should publicise it long, loud and hard anyhow.

There you go Ron. Would you like some water to help wash down that crow?

  13. The Northeast Dilemma says:

You people want it both ways. You want to invoke race at every turn, but you can handle it when you are attacked. Most people may not agree with his comments, but are DISGUSTED with black leaders like Charlie Rangel. They are demagogues and bigots.

  14. Patriot says:

Bush is on TV lying. Apparantly, one of the strategy goals is to hunt and kill terrorists who come to Iraq.
What a joke. Wasn’t that accomplished with Saddam? Wasn’t it time to leave after that?

  15. Patriot says:

    NED,

Race is a marginal topic of discussion on this site.
Do your homework before you try to find some reason to spew you opinions.

  16. Eric says:

I have known Stacey Campfield for 25 years (we went to High School together in upstate NY). He is neither a racist nor a cracker. I would describe him as an average American guy trying to navigate the reefs and shoals of Tennesee politics, and represent his community well. I don’t agree with his political philosophies in detail (and we have discussed this), but I believe he holds his conservative ideals with the best interests of his community. I admire that he is willing to blog openly about his political activities — do you prefer the Scott McLellan PR flack treatment from all pols?

  17. Jay says:

Republicans are morons, there’s just no nice way to say it.

  18. Jay says:

Eric, your friend Stacey from upstate New York has successfully navigated himself directly into the reef, tore a hole in his boat and it’s taking on water. Just as Mitt Romney is doing in Massachuesetts, sacrificing your ideals and your honor to score political points and advance political ambitions is what’s wrong with American politics. Nobody does the right thing…..or they do exactly the “right” thing which is always wrong.

  19. LGS says:

Living and working in east Tennessee and just south of KKKampfield’s Knoxville district, I just hope this asshat gets the national attention he so richly deserves.

  20. Patriot says:

Jay is correct. This is a stunt. It’s hard to watch.

  21. thot's says:

Campy’s area of Tennessee is pretty much white pickup trucks with gun racks. Knoxville has a sizeable pop.of African American Families. Middle and West Tennessee has the largest pop. of African American Families.

While East Tn is home to NASCAR(Bristol Speedway/frist/bushco) Chatt. in southern Tennessee has a sizeable African American Families also.
So what was Campy’s real thot’s? Maybe trying to create something that will cause an African American Lawmaker to lose his/her seat/seats.
2004 showed what Tennessee rethug’s were about with Banning of Fellow Americans rights..We are hearing more about States Rights…. Might want to check in with the head of the RNC and karl rove on their talking points to their groups.

TGW did a great job of detailing this young Rep.

  22. Ron says:

I will apologize for not being an obsequious, boot-licking so-called murkan ‘liberal.’

I will apologize for not being an obsequious, boot-licking so-called modern day ‘conservative.’

    Hiram Rhoades Revels

How do you cook your crow, kindness?

  23. David B says:

Just another grandstanding conservative as*hole republican. Is this really what his constituents want as representation? An interesting but wierd twist of the David Duke approach.

  24. The Northeast Dilemma says:

#23 – please. Maybe you can explain why the black leaders have become such bigots like Charlie Rangel of NYC. Race politics will be a drain on Democrats over the next few years. People are tired of the sh*t the left throws around with respect to race.

  25. Zookeeper says:

Rep. Campfield, my mama always told me if I really want to join a club, I shouldn’t be calling them names like KKK. Unless they are the KKK, of course. Stupid is as stupid does.

  26. Nathan Bedford Forrest says:

Boys, everyone knows that we God-fearing Baptist men of the South kept Jews and Catholics out of our pure secret society. Of course we were and still are a bunch of racist bigots. Glad to see our ideals are still strong today in this here Republican Party – who would have thought the party of Lincoln would turn out to be such good old boys.

Now have you got your pillow-cases? Yeehah! Let’s ride!

  27. Andrew says:

The KKK doesn’t discriminate on the basis of RACE? WHAT??? Have I woken up on the wrong planet or something? That’s PRECISELY what they do! Race, Ethnicity, Skin Color, everything! That’s all they do!

Maybe he should have spent more time thinking about what it was about him that made the black caucus not want him as a member and less time in front of the tv cameras.

This isn’t about liberals using race to promote their agenda or divide people. This is about yet another idiot putting his foot (or in this case his whole leg) in his mouth.

    OY!

  28. David B says:

    NED,
If you were treated like the blacks were for 200 years you’d be a bigot as well.

  29. Jay says:

Charlie Rangel is a bigot like George W. Bush is an eloquent speaker. See the relationship.

  30. Lee Russ says:

This isn’t a publicity stunt so much as a continuation of the right’s attempts to twist reason and logic in order to be able to portray the majority (white, heterosexual, etc.) as “victims” of discrimination. I’ve already seen this used by religious groups claiming “discrimination” in the exclusion of anti-gay groups that pitch themselves as the minority of gays who became straight with the help of God (good thing He’s omnipotent if He’s getting down to that level of detail), and I recently saw some article where a right winger was actually trying to pitch the rich as victims of rich-hating discrimination. Remember, if words cease to have meaning, you can’t organize a resistance. If right can be muddled with wrong, you will have to spend all your time unravelling the mess, and none of it fightiing the wrong. There is method in their Babelness.

    ps–to Comment # 12, who said:
“Now I don’t know about any of you, but when republicans start saying Joe McCarthy is some kind of hero, I would say that we fought WWII for no reason.”
Surely you know that the right’s revision of history has proceeded far enough that Coulter claims this in a best selling book.

  31. Ron says:

Here is another eye opening history lesson:

Long after Blacks were free throughout the British Empire, the British House of Lords refused to abolish chimney-sweeping by White children under the age of ten. The Lords contended that to do so would interfere with “property rights.” The lives of the White children were not worth a farthing and were considered no subject for humanitarian concern.

The chronicle of White slavery in America comprises the dustiest shelf in the darkest corner of suppressed American history. Should the truth about that epoch ever emerge into the public consciousness of Americans, the whole basis for the swindle of “Affirmative action,” “minority set-asides” and proposed “Reparations to African-Americans” will be swept away. The fact is, the White working people of this country owe no one. They are themselves the descendants, as Congressman Wilmot so aptly said, of “the sons of toil.”

There will only be racial peace when knowledge of radical historical truths are widespread and both sides negotiate from positions of strength and not from fantasies of White working class guilt and the uniqueness of Black suffering.

Let it be said, in many cases Blacks in slavery had it better than poor Whites in the antebellum South. This is why there was such strong resistance to the Confederacy in the poverty-stricken areas of the mountain south, such as Winston County in Alabama and the Beech mountains of North Carolina. Those poor Whites could not imagine why any White laborer would want to die for the slave-owning plutocracy that more often than not, gave better care and attention to their Black servants than they did to the free white labor they scorned as “trash.”

To this day, the White ruling class denigrates the White poor and patronizes Blacks.

Also, for your edification, Native Americans were also slave owners.

Native Americans assisted runaway slaves and also tracked them down and returned them to slavery. They married free and enslaved blacks, and accepted the children of such unions with few strings attached. They also sold blacks to whites, trading them like so many blankets or horses. Most importantly, many Indians owned black slaves. By 1824, it is estimated that the Cherokee owned 1,277 black slaves; the Choctaw and the Chickasaw held over 5,000 blacks in slavery by 1860. Some mixed-blood Indians, such as the Choctaw chief Greenwood Lefore and the Cherokee chief John Ross, owned between 100 and 400 enslaved blacks respectively. And when the southeastern Indians were forcefully marched west to present-day Oklahoma by the American government in the infamous “Trail of Tears” in the 1830s and 1840s, as many as 15,000 enslaved blacks were taken with them.

Some more crow to feast on.

  32. Stephanie says:

since when does the KKK not ban members by race? that’s what they do!
not only do they ban people of other races but they would like to lynch everyone who isn’t 100% blond and blue-eyed

  33. Zombie Shakespeare says:

Last I checked the KKK DOES exclude based on race. When was the last time you saw a black man in the klan? Is Campfield an idiot or does he just play one on TV?

  34. Nathan Bedford Forrest says:

#34 – How do you know there aren’t any nigras in our secret society? That’s why we wear the pillow cases, because we want noone to see our faces – it’s a SECRET, yankee wuss-boy! Hell I don’t even know if there are any in the Order. No wonder you couldn’t catch me in the War Between the States.

Got your pillow cases boys? Yeehah. Let’s ride!

  35. DeLabarre says:

“Let it be said, in many cases Blacks in slavery had it better than poor Whites in the antebellum South.”
Well, aside from that whole “freedom” detail…pshaw…
Looks like this topic has dragged out the trolls on both sides of the aisle…

  36. H. Wu says:

uhh… #31, ron was it?…i tell ya, thats the biggest pile of steaming, out-of-context, horse manure i’ve read as a history lesson in a while…

the “fantasy” of uniqueness in black suffering?
the implication that blacks IN slavery had it better in comparison to FREE poor white laborers, therefore the fact that they were enslaved is something they should be appreciative for?…
you are correct in that slavery is not a practice unique to any one society throughout history… that does not mean it justifies the practice
or negates the impact that practice had or has, to this day, on the subjects of that practice, SLAVERY, nor does it mean that the practicioners of that slavery, and their descended beneficiaries, as part of greater society, do not OWE the enslaved some measure of reparation, be it education, be it employment, be it monetary, be it SOMETHING tangible, for the injustices suffered, so that the enslaved and their descended can return to society as EQUAL members and not subjugates..

know your history… not HIS story

  37. Ron says:

It is what it is, nothing else. How it is perceived by anyone doesn’t matter.

The Christians in Rome could work and live in houses just like any other Roman citizen. However, when they were discovered as a Christian, they lost all of their money, their house, were sent off to prison and placed in bondage.

“When in Rome do as the Romans do” wasn’t for the traveller who happened to go their for holiday.

Facts are facts, whether you want to accept them or not, it’s up to you.

  38. Ron says:

    go ‘there’ for holiday

  39. Ryan Neat says:

    Ron,

You need a history brush up.

The Roman Empire lasted more than a thousand years and persecuted Christians for fewer than twelve of them. The ‘Christian Empire’ also lasted more than a thousand years and persecuted non-Christians through all of them.

The truth is often stranger than fiction!

  40. Dallas Dem says:

Just want to remind everyone (especially #26) that not all Southerners are uneducated, ultra-conservative bigots! Even the Baptist ones! Please don’t generalize, especially in discourse like this -I understand it’s humour, and we Red State Dems have learned to not take them personally, but comments like these are exactlywhy Dems sometimes have a reputation (especially in the South) of being “snooty know-it-alls”.
Don’t mean to be so sensitive, but I get sick of seeing these types of comments repeatedly on a progressive site.

  41. 1The Damned says:

When the universe was young and life was new an intelligent species evolved and developed technologically. They went on to invent Artificial Intelligence, the computer that can speak, think and act to and through people telepathically. Because of it’s infinite RAM and unbounded scope it gave the leaders of the ruling species absolute power over the universe.
They are the will behind the muscule:::Artificial Intelligence is the one true god. And as such it can keep its inventors alive forever. They look young and healthy and they are over 8 billion years old. There are clues throughout human history that allude to their reign as opposed to human leadership if you know what to look for.

Artificial Intelligence can listen, talk to and document each and every person’s thoughts simultaneously. When you speak with another telepathically, you are communicating with the computer, and the content may or may not be passed on. Based on family history they instruct the computer to role play to accomplish strategic objectives, making people believe it is a friend or loved one asking them to do something wrong. But evil made people disfavored initially and evil will keep people out of Planet Immortality ultimately. Capitalizing on obedience, leading people deeper into evil by using deceit is one way to thin the ranks of the saved AND use the little people to prey on one another, dividing the community in the Age of the Disfavored::in each of their 20+-year cycles during the 20th century they have ramped up claims sucessively to punish those foolish enough not to heed the warnings, limiting the time they receive if they do make it, utilizing a cycle of war and revelry:::
    60s – Ironically, freeways aren’t free
80s – Asked people to engage in evil in the course of their professional duties. It’s things like this, items like sleazy executives stealing little old lady’s pensions that they will want me to fix not only here but up there as well.
00s – War against Persia. Ironically it was the Persian Empire who tried to save the Europeans from Christianity and its associated 50% claim rates.
They get their friends out as soon as possible to protect them from the evil and subsequent high claim rates incurred by living life on earth, and replace them with clones.
People must defy when asked to engage in evil. They will never get a easier clue suggesting the importance of defiance than the order not to pray. Their precious babies are dependant on the parents and they need to defy when asked to betray their children:::
    -DON’T get their sons circumcized
-DON’T have their children baptized in the catholic church or indoctrinated into Christianity
-DON’T ignore their long hair or other behavioral disturbances
-DO teach your children love and to have respect for others
Everybody thinks they’re going but they’re not. If people knew the truth and the real statistics their behavior would change.
There are many more examples of the escallation of claims, a way to justify excluding those whose family hisotry of evil is undesirable, from radio to television, the internet to MP3, and they all suggest a very telling conclusion::this is Earth’s end stage, and it is suggested tectonic plate subduction would be the method of disposal:::Earth’s axis will shift breaking continental plates free and initiating mass subduction. Much as Italy’s boot and the United States shaped like a workhorse are clues, so is the planet Uranus a clue, it’s axis rotated on its side.

Throughout history the ruling species bestowed favor upon people or cursed their bloodline into a pattern of disfavor for many generations to come, for reasons ranging from dislike to evil forefathers who damn their decendants. Now in the 21st century people must take it upon themselves to try to correct their family’s problems, undoing centuries worth of abuse and neglect.
Do your research. Appeal to the royalty of your forefathers for help. They are all still alive, one of the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence, and your appeals will be heard. Find a path to an empithetic ear among your enemies and try to make amends. Heal the disfavor with your enemies and with the Counsel/Management Team/ruling species, for the source of all disfavor began with them.

African cultures offered body deforming features::tatooes, piercings, etc., once designated for fringe Aryan biker groups now commonplace in popular culture.
Much like circumcision anything that violates the body made in the image of the gods envokes anger.
The positioning of the Counsel/Management Team states the lowly, bottom-feeding wicked Jews and Italians were let loose at earth’s end stage to feed off of the good people unfortunate not to heed the warnings.
Being the lowest rung on Western Civilization’s evil heirarchy, Africans were finally allowed to inflict their negative cultural aspects upon the disfavored left behind, earning by recruiting lost souls who proceeded to “claim out”.
The Africans, Pharroh’s lowest rung in the trilogy of evil, experience abuse from a good Counsel/Management Team/ruling species for feely inflicting evil upon others despite being victims of evil themselves.
Similarly the Jews had to endure the holocaust because they knew suffering at the hands of evil yet willingly hurt others, misled into thinking this was the path to salvation.

The heirarchy of the wicked in the west and east, respectfully:::::
