White House Press Briefing with Ari Fleischer, 5/7/01:
QUESTION: Does the President believe that, given the amount of energy Americans consume per capita, how much it exceeds any other citizen in any other country in the world, does the President believe we need to correct our lifestyles to address the energy problem?
FLEISCHER: That’s a big no. The President believes that it’s an American way of life. LISTEN HERE
White House Press Briefing with Scott McClellan, 9/26/05:
MCCLELLAN: [T]here are steps that — or initiatives that the President has outlined that are important steps that we can take to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy. This has been a high priority for the President from day one. LISTEN HERE

Yeah Right… He’s From Texas
September 28th, 2005 at 11:33 amIt’s been a high priority since day one for Scottie to be a butt boy and snivelling liar.
September 28th, 2005 at 11:34 amIs Ari throwing up the horns because he’s f#%$ing metal? Or is he casting The Crimson Bands of Cyttorak?
September 28th, 2005 at 11:35 amI just posted this in another thread, but it is way more appropriate here.
I heard on CBS (amazing) that it costs $6,021 an hour to fly Air Force One around. I was stunned that CBS did an anti-Bush piece on the 6 O’Clock News. They talked about his new policy of telling people to conserve gas while he has made seven trips to the Gulf Coast, two trips to Texas (with another one today I believe) and a trip to Colorado.
It is much a do as I say, not as I do attitude.
September 28th, 2005 at 11:35 amAnytime somebody from this WH states that something has been true since day one you KNOW they are full of crap. This WH can’t keep its story straight from one day to the next!
They’re the biggest flip floppers ever!
“Restore dignity to the office of the president” OOPS! Karl Rove still has a job!
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!
September 28th, 2005 at 11:36 amCNN talked about it this morning too. I think the MSM is finally starting to catch a whiff of what they’ve been wading around in since ‘01 and they ain’t too happy about it.
September 28th, 2005 at 11:37 amPolicy? What policy? The WH has no policy beyond trying to keep its head above the water and they will do any lie it takes.
They do not care that the president and his spokesmen are caught in lies, after all, he is the president of this great land and what he says goes. Period.
I saw with interest this morning that the prez had quickly called a 10:15 AM news conference in order to knock Gov. Blanco off the airwaves. He let us know that they had killed the 50th #2 in Iraq. He was scared to death of what Blanco may have testified about.
What a man, what a prez, what an ingnorant asshole.
September 28th, 2005 at 11:46 amMoveon.org or some other organization needs to run ads that shows every flip-flop on every issue that Bush has made.
I know this would be very expense because there are so many to find.
1) Show current statements (VIDEO ONLY–no text graphics as they are not believed)
Maybe show multiple series of statements
2) Show past statements made on video (maybe audio if only source)
3)Only comment afterwards is “Mr. President have you no shame?”
A couple of dozen of these type of ads running throughout the country from now until the end of his term should destroy all creditability of the GOP.
September 28th, 2005 at 11:50 amDick Cheney boasted that the “American way of life was not negotiable”. He’s right, but not in the way he intended. Take your emotions about these people off the table and even from an economic perspective, the US’s attitude to energy and transportation is degrading its ability to compete in the markets of carmanufacture and advanced fuel cell, solar and wind power.
Already US cars have a hard time seeling in China because they don’t meet the mileage standards! Big Oil and Big Metal set the legislative environment for the ‘SUV boom’ which set fuel economy standards back before Carter’s time. Now Detroit is so SUV minded, they have lost massive ground against the Japanese and Euro car makers.

September 28th, 2005 at 11:59 amEasyRider… what can we do to make it happen?
September 28th, 2005 at 12:00 pmWhite House Was Against Energy Conservation Before It Was For It
We found this blog entry very interesting so we’ve added a Trackback to it on our site.
September 28th, 2005 at 12:35 pm“This has been a high priority for the President from day one”
Sure it has…it’s just that corporate profit is a higher priority. Here are some facts on the failures of this administration to effect tougher fuel economy standards:

September 28th, 2005 at 1:09 pmWAIIIIIT – - if it was a priority from day 1, doesn’t that mean the WH was for it before it was against it before it was for it??
September 28th, 2005 at 1:18 pmGet out your FLIP FLOPS!!!
Wow, now how many times has this been that bush has flip flopped? No wonder they attacked Kerry so hard on his supposed indecisiveness, in true republican fashion it was projection all along. They always project their weaknesses and insanity on others, instead of being adults and coping with them. Classic CONservatism and Fascist propagandists, one and all!
September 28th, 2005 at 1:24 pmWhy are they complaining or talking conservation? What we are seeing are exactly the kind of market forces that they have been pushing for. I think they’re just unhappy that these market forces seem to favor the same liberals they have been ridiculing for conservation practices.
If someone bought a “car” that now costs over $100 a week to fuel, that’s their personal responsibility, isn’t it?
September 28th, 2005 at 1:47 pmI love it. A clear distinction between Clinton and Bush.
For Clinton a Hummer was something he received from a certain intern.
For Bush a Hummer is something that sucks gas at an alarming rate.
Though we should do like Europe and ban ALL intra-city trucking, heavily take inner-city delivery trucking, and use the rails to haul stuff around the country. Oh, and put up a bunch of wind farms to supply 30% of the nation’s electricity needs, close nuclear power plants, scrub coal fired plants, and limit the use of natural gas fired plants. If America ever gets as serious as the Europeans we’d see brighter days ahead.
September 28th, 2005 at 2:14 pm“FLIP FVCKING FLOP!!” Why do you think all of those girls in flip-flops took their picture with SHRUB at the WH? They knew who he was already…
September 28th, 2005 at 2:27 pmTaco Loco–It takes money, organization, and a resolve to do it.
Money to not only air the ads but to acquire the footage. Purchase older footage and maybe some that was not aired but still recorded, and equipment to record current video.
I keep telling myself not to start the effort, but damn I want to start it.
Maybe create an organization to collect and document all that can be collected. Then sell subscriptions to researchers and organizations that want access to the footage.
Just some quick ideas I have thought about.
If I get started look for a story on about it on Dailykos for EasyRider.

November 20th, 2005 at 2:15 pmThis is perfectly stereotypical Bush. He’s been conservationally-retarded from Day One. He just hasn’t shown himself to be a long-term thinker. At least he doesn’t seem to think any further ahead than is required to advance his political power.
