that Judith Miller will testify about her discussion with Scooter Libby about outed CIA operative Valerie Plame. (More on Libby’s role in our comprehensive Plamegate database.)
Y’all gotta go check out the war between Daily Kos and the Stalinist jackasses at BlogsforBush.com. Unlike here, at BlogsforBushPost you can post a comment, see them sensor! Ridiculous crock of excrement.
Plame’s Brewster Jennings front company (if you look at the details of the company) looked like a bogus front by any standard – and that was probably the whole point of it.
Most likely she travelled in the energy circles and was easy to spot as CIA, which made her approachable for anyone looking to do so. She’s attractive and that makes it easy for a mark to fast-talk if caught by his own company “I didn’t know she was CIA. I just thought she was hot. Those tricky bastards”.
This is a plausible scenario to show that Plame was indeed a NOC, and undercover “in-plain-sight”. Widespread publicity of her as CIA stigmatizes her, not to the big players (who probably knew), but to the small fish who might have approached her.
“Who leaked to who” seems to go around in circles, and Libby seems to be the original leaker.
BUT, there is still the chance that in researching Joe Wilson and knowing he was sent to Niger by the CIA, one of the reporters involved dug up that Valerie was CIA. Then, on a hunch, easily baited Libby/Rove into confirming that Valerie was involved in her husbands trip. And partisan journalism took care of the rest ala Novak
In regards to # 5, what reason would Rove and Libby have had to know that Valerie Wilson was a covert CIA operative? I’m guessing they don’t come across the names of operatives during the normal course of their duties, so how did they know this particular name? Worse, even if you’re right and someone else somehow knew that Valerie Wilson was a covert operative, that doesn’t mean anyone who knew had the right to admit to this knowledge. And to say that guys as machiavellian as Karl Rove were “baited” into saying something they knew they shouldn’t is ridiculous on its face.
Worse, if you were right and Rove and Libby were baited into saying something they didn’t mean to, why did they deny having said it and why did the president’s press secretary deny it on their behalf? And how foolish is it for the president to say he really wanted to get to the bottom of who leaked the information? Assuming he didn’t know in advance that Libby and Rove would do what they did, how is it possible that he couldn’t find out after the fact? Either Rove and Libby lied to the president or the president has covered for them.
Recall that the preisdent ran for office on the theme of bringing responsibility and respect back to the White House (as though it had gone missing during the Clintion years.). Bush also promised maturity and gravitas, as though Clinton and his administration were irresponsible immature teenagers.
If leaking the name of a covert CIA operative and lying about it don’t indicate irresponsibility, immaturity and a lack of respect for the office of the presidency, I can’t imagine what does.
Only the most hard core administration apologists can excuse what Rove and Libby, and by extension their bosses, have done to valerie Wilson.
Mathmatically, someone has perjured by now. And it does not look good that the whore’s release is shrouded in contradiction and deception.
I don’t see how anyone could ever have faith in the NY TIMES or that dumb slut again.
I agree, Patriot. NYT has ruined its already iffy reputation. She was given a “release” a year ago. Why does she NOW say this “new” release from Libby is uncoerced? Libby’s lawyer said it was not coerced last year. She is a rotten excuse for a journalist. She has no integrity and after a few visits from Bolton recently she now is “talking?”
Good grief, can the public be so blind as to not see what is right in front of them? Was this lockup some kind of show? Probably to cloud the real issue – she is a partisan hack and a whore for the administration. Does she think she may get some appointment? Does she think this will “make” her already tarnished career? What a sellout hack.
The law doesn’t stipulate that its okay to reveal someone’s identity just because some people inside the beltway with top secret clearances know she’s NOC. That’s no excuse. Libby and Rove found out from Bush or Cheney or both and then blabbed to Miller. Therefore all three of them broke the law. QED.
All of these theories and questions are plausible. Maybe we will eventually learn the truth, but history is not on our side. Someone should be in prison for the exposure of an agent, but “should” doesn’t mean “will,” particularly in this conspiratorial regime.
And conventional wisdom holds that Democrats are the conspiracy theorists. Yea well, conventional wisdom is standing on it’s head.
Judy Miller is linked at the hip w/ the insiders from bushco. I don’t think she’s going to out them now. She being one of the prime perveyors of crap trying to rally the nation to wrongly invade Iraq (which isn’t even in question any more).
There is a reason it all happened. Chances are, we’ll never know the truth. That is if Karl Rove still has any say in the matter. I suspect someone else is singing.
She’s a stupid hack! She was an outlet for Chalabi and the other administration propaganda spin that got us into the war in the first place. She clearly had an agenda, and my guess is that it is related to her husband Jason Epstein who’s a bit of a right wing zionist.
There’s a whole diatribe on his his aid in destroying ‘intelligent’ journalism in america. She’s just a cog in the wheel of the reichwing uber-zionist NeoCon spin machine…
My point is: Plame is a NOC, but at a point in her career where a good reporter could find this out.
As for “taking the bait”, this theory is from my own experience:
I used to use a small piece of info or a hunch to bait industry contacts into giving me the scoop on the competition all the time. Its a matter of pride – when you give them the impression that you already know the scoop, they sing like canaries. And the more important their position, the bigger the pride.
This does not excuse Rove/Libby for stupidly taking the bait, and yes, there may well be perjury or obstruction charges regardless.
WOW!!
Keep up the good work!!
September 29th, 2005 at 11:33 pmTime to break out the popcorn and watch the show. But which one to watch? There are so many good shows this season.

September 30th, 2005 at 2:31 am[...] We can only speculate as to why, after 3 months in prison, he has liberated (or his lawyer) Judy Miller from a confidentiality agreement. [...]

September 30th, 2005 at 10:33 amEither Libby or Tim Russert is guilty of perjury, if Bloomberg’s reporting is true. Who are you rooting for ?

September 30th, 2005 at 10:56 amSomething is fishy about this one!!! I will reserve my judgement until she testifies!!!
I have a feeling that there is a conspiracy that is about to happen to protect the cronies!!!
Bolton visits, and then a call from Libby, then she suddenly has a change of heart!!!
I am not buying it!!!
