DeLay Will Prove His Conspiracy Theories “When It’s Timely”»

Tom DeLay says he has “very good evidence” of a massive conspiracy between Ronnie Earle, Nancy Pelosi and other liberals. He just can’t release that information yet, can’t explain why he can’t and can’t say when he will be able to do so:

DeLay Conspiracy

Watch DeLay: Quicktime Streaming

Transcript below:

DELAY: Ronnie Earle does this to all his political enemies. He did it to conservative Democrats. He did it — and he does it to Republicans. And particularly in my case, he did it in conjunction and working with the Democrat leadership here in Washington, D.C.

BLITZER: Well, that’s an explosive charge you make, that there was some sort of collusion or conspiracy between Ronnie Earle and Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders in the Congress. What evidence, if any, do you have to back that up?

DELAY: It’s very good evidence, that they announced this strategy publicly, they put it on their website and this strategy is in their fund-raising letters.

BLITZER: Who specifically — who announced this?

DELAY: The DCCC, the Democratic Campaign Committee, run by Chairman Rahm Emanuel.

BLITZER: They announced that they were working with Ronnie Earle to get you an indictment?

DELAY: No, they didn’t do that.

BLITZER: What evidence is there they consulted with Ronnie Earle, that they talked to him or they had any dealings with him whatsoever?

DELAY: That evidence is coming. But the point is, they announced the strategy, and it’s very funny that two weeks ago, when Ronnie Earle said publicly that I was not part of the investigation, that I hadn’t been investigated, and then turns around in two days — over the weekend — he now is going to indict me. It is quite obvious, because the Democrats announced this strategy. And we all know how this place works. I’m sure they worked closely with Ronnie Earle on this strategy.

BLITZER: When is the evidence going to be made available? You say it’s coming. When are you going to make that evidence available?

DELAY: When it’s timely.

BLITZER: What does that mean?

DELAY: When it’s timely.

BLITZER: All right. Well, we’ll have to wait and see for that evidence.

  1. Ugh Says:

Why does the press let someone like Delay get up there and spew BS like this?

  2. Daniel Says:

The most telling part of this video is the last frame.

DeLay is looking down, away from the lens of the camera. You can not tell me he was ‘distracted’ by something. You know he couldn’t look the camera in the ‘eye’ because he KNEW he was lying, and couldn’t keep looking forward as he did it. He KNEW he was backed into a corner, and could only repeate “when it’s timly”.

And I wish Caferty was there to ask questions - I’d have LOVED to see that.

  3. kindness Says:

    Reminds me of Joe McCarthy,
“I have inconvertable PROOF that we have 101 communists working in the State Department!”

It worked for Joe for a few years. Then he just fell into the miserable drunk mode. I can’t say I’d feel sorry if DeLay became a drunk. He’s already a miserable cretin for the rest of us. Let’s all hope we won’t have to go through the couple of years of his crap.

I think his 15 minutes is just about up, thank god.

  4. Ron Says:

This is his contribution to society? He should be ashamed of himself, but he’s not.

  5. Albert Says:

And I will prove that DeLay sacrificed a human baby to Baal “when it’s timely.”

DeLay’s lawyer’s note: this is satire.

  6. nobody Says:

    It’s a Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy!

    Jeeeez, what a clown.

  7. Marlene Robertson Says:

no, not when the time is right, but rather he should have said,”when we get everyone lined up to lie for us again.”

  8. Jay Says:

All skanky whores lie, it’s a survival technique.

If there is any justice left, if our system has even a shred of honor, Tom Delay will do time. Unfortunately, Bush just pardoned 14 criminals, several for serious drug charges…..what would Limbaugh do?

  9. Ugh Says:

Delay can’t get a pardon, the President can only pardon individuals for federal offenses, if they’re convicted under state law they are SOL (unless the Gov pardons them, which I guess is a possibility in TX).

  10. tp Says:

He simply needs time to conjure up the evidence to “fit” the accusations. He doesn’t have anything yet, but give him some time. Karl will manufacture something, like maybe a forged receipt for evidence between Nigeria and Nancy Pelosi.

  11. Andrew Says:

Let the 3 ring circus begin!

  14. owlbear1 Says:

Every ‘LIB’ that reads this should imagine Delay Choking on a Chicken wing…

Really put the fear of LIBS into him…

  15. ohdave Says:

Maybe you can provide the evidence when you are sued for slander, Mr. Delay.

And I hope Nancy Pelosi does it immediately.

  16. Bozo the consevative clown Says:

    Cue Twilight zone theme

fimly affix tin foil chapeaux to empty cranium

    enter lapdog corporate media

Now let the 3 ring circus begin!

  17. BS Detector Says:

the President can only pardon individuals for federal offenses, if they’re convicted under state law they are SOL (unless the Gov pardons them, which I guess is a possibility in TX).

Not if Chris Bell wins the Governor’s race.

  18. Doctor Biobrain Says:

This is simply incredible. Tom Delay has gone completely unhinged. I know these guys like to play up the this kind of crap, but even Blitzer wasn’t having it. Delay’s only hope is that this statement gets forgotten about and that doctors eventually find the cure for whatever the hell it is that’s screwing him up. We can only hope.

  19. Liberal Pen Pal Says:

    Tom DeLay Sees Dead People

Has former Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay finally lost his mind? The indicted Congressman went on CNN and “very good evidence” of a massive conspiracy between Ronnie Earle, Nancy Pelosi and other liberals. Here’s the video and a snippet from…

  20. park Says:

Tom DeLay is a crazed fanatic. That’s why he’s “good” at what he does, and it’s why he’s indicted. Of course he’s making that shit up. He doesn’t give a shit. He thinks he “is the federal government,” remember? He thinks he is entitled to power and anyone who challenges him must be jockeying for power as well. That’s what’s called projection.

  21. Dan Says:

Why does DeLay keep saying that Ronnie Earle does this to his political enemies. DeLay has never run for District Attorney of Travis County. And as far as I know Earle has been in office nearly three times as long as Delay has. Can’t the Dems and Pelosi get him for libel if he cannot proof his claims of collusion and conspiracy.

I thought there was a senate rule against make statement s like that against senators and congressman; that’s is accusing them of committing a crime without proof.

Ronnie Earle will get him if the evidence is there. What the media doesn’t tell you is that not only is a State Jail Felony punishable up to 2 years in a State Jail Facility, (which is worse than say County Jail, but not as bad as State Prison; mostly DUI, car theives, and drug related crimes go to State Jail), but if he gets probation it is the only type of offense that you can get more years on probation than you are actually sentenced. You can get up to 5 years of probation.

    Go get ‘em Ronnie!

  22. BS Detector Says:

Chris Bell took on Tom Delay over his ethics, and now he’s taking on Rick “good hair” Perry.

If grass-roots Dems really want to purge the Texas State House of slime, support him with a few bucks. Just a few. If just half the 50 million people who were disenfranchised by Scalia, Rhenquist, Thomas et.al gave a fiver to Chris Bell… I’m going to skip my six-pack this afternoon [it’s Friday] and send the bux to him instead.

  23. progressive and proud Says:

Here’s a TN for Chris Bell.

  24. kindness Says:

Hey all. I don’t mean to go off topic but you might want to take a look at an article in dkos from Senator Obama.

    It’s really good.

  25. Andrew Says:

#22 I went to the site and I noticed the smallest donation is $18 not $5! Even Better!

  26. cynical ex-hippie Says:

I think that bug spray has affected his brain.

Perhaps the EPA could study video tapes of him instead of poor children.

  27. Zookeeper Says:

Bugman, since your ass is on the line big time, I would think “timely” would be now-ly.

Is anybody else just dying to see what’s under that comb-over? Just askin’…

  28. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

The BugMan just got pest controlled.

His time is up. He’s a has been. Good bye. Hopefully forever.

Now can we redraw the districts in Texass to the way they were before DeLay worked his Buggy Madness?

  29. Terrytheturtle Says:

Interesting - I wonder if the time they called on DHS/FAA to tell them where the Demos were during the redistricting walkout will come back in the trial.

Not to sound like Ned for a second, but while all this going on, Roberts is in without all Demos voting against and there’s another Supremo coming. What are you going to do about it, lefty?

  30. Rayne Says:

So many thoughts bubble up in response…

    – But there’s no advance knowledge of this indictment or of the underlying criminal charges; how is it that DeLay is already on Hardball with Tweety smoothly reciting his talking points the evening the indictment was announced?
    – What about the rest of the media blitz, including coordinated blog and email campaigns launched upon the indictment, decrying Earle and the charges? did RNC party operatives already have a defensive game plan prepared prior to the indictment?
    – Takes one conspirator to know another…?
    – How is it the rebuttal sounds so Agnew-ian or Nixonian? (”I am not a crook!”)

  31. Anarchist Says:

Today’s NEW GOP Talking Points. Err, Point.

-“This is all politically motivated. I did nothing wrong.” -Tom DeLay

-“This is all politically motivated. I did nothing wrong.” -Bill Frist

-“This is all politically motivated. I did nothing wrong.” -Rush Limbaugh

–“This is all politically motivated. I did nothing wrong.” -Bob Ney

  32. Doug Says:

A number of years ago, a gangster by the name of Gennaro Angiulo was tried in Boston by the feds (the government had excellent wiretap transcripts). He was convicted. At the end of the trial, Anguilo didn’t say, “This was a miscarriage of justice - I’m innocent!” Instead, he just said, “We gave them a good fight.” Which I thought was honest of him.

This is what Delay is doing. He has the right to defend himself; and, as a practical matter, he knows he can lie under oath - after a trail, the government does not attempt to charge defendants with perjury for proclaiming their innocence on the stand. They feel that they have the evidence they need for a conviction; if they fail, they know that they would not have much of a chance of getting a perjury charge to stick.

  33. S.D. Says:

Didn’t Joe McCarthy say “I have in my hand” Evidence?
    It wasn’t true then either.

If he gets Nailed, will GW Pardon him?

  34. Zombie Shakespeare Says:

Hey Tommy, is my name on the list? If not, you can put it there, motherf*&%er.

  35. robert lewis Says:

DeLay is putting on a brave face, but the smart money is that he’s already cut a plea with Ronnie Earle. Otherwise, how can one explain the fact that DeLay’s indictment says in black and white:

“The Grand Jury further presents that, with the advise and consent of counsel, the defendent, Thomas Dale DeLay, did heretofore knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily waive application of Articles 12.01 and 12.02 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure to the indictment presented herein. In particular, the Grand Jury present that with the advice and consent of counsel, the defendent, Thomas Dale DeLay, did knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily waive the requirement that an indictment for the felony offense of criminal conspiracy, the object of which is felony other than those listed in Subdivisions (1) and (5) of Article 12.01 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, may be presented within three years from the date of commission of the offense, and not afterward, insofar as such requirement pertains to the indictment presented herein,”

Folks, DeLay “knowingly, intelligently and voluntarily” , upon advice of counsel, waived the statute of limitations on the very felony he’s charged with!! Now why would Tommy Dale do that? Only one reason - in order to avoid more serious charges against him.

Delay will preen and promenade, deny, deny, deny, and then plead no contest 15 months from now. Put a fork in himn, he’s done. Next up, Mr. Frist???

  36. park Says:

    Will DeGuerin suborn perjury?

  37. Terrytheturtle Says:

Hmm, sounds a lot like Hilary’s ‘vast right wing conspiracy’. Well if history repeats itself… (1) there was and is a ‘vast right wing conspiracy’ and (2) Billy-bob was getting his ‘winky whacked’ (thanks Lewis)…. so…?

  38. Redleg Says:

Somebody should just put that lying SOB out of his (and our) misery.

  39. Louis Says:

Yes, I made the Joseph McCarthy connection immediately: “I have in my hand 57 cases of individuals who would appear to be either card-carrying members or certainly loyal to the Communist Party, but who nevertheless are still helping to shape our foreign policy.” The numbers changed with every speech, and the only place they existed were in Joe’s mind.

  40. Archibald Tuttle Says:

I was over to MyDD and they have a link to the http://www.DCCC.org campaign to move people to vote these bastards out and this is written at the top of the donation page:

With the indictment of DeLay, the “Republican Revolution” and their precious “Contract with America” are exposed as frauds. The Republican Party has betrayed the trust of the American people, and it is time that they are thrown out. It’s our job to make that happen, and we will with your help.

Hysterical! The DCCC campaign to beat Delay is gonna’ be called a conspiracy, just you watch!

  41. StealthBadger Says:

Today’s NEW GOP Talking Points. Err, Point.

–“This is all politically motivated. I did nothing wrong.” -Bob Ney

Which I suspect will be followed by “You’re all pardoned.” -George W. Bush

I do have one question, though. Would that “very good evidence” happen to be the makings of a “slam-dunk” case? If so, then you’d best have already started on the plea bargain.

  42. Pope Bandar bin Turtle Says:

Pope Bandar bin Turtle has examined this video & determined that DeLay is in a permanent vegetative state & should be removed from life support immediately!

  45. sparrow Says:

Wolf Blitzer and Tom Delay? Now that’s entertainment!

  46. Shawn Says:

What’s wrong with the newsmedia is apparent in Wolf Blitzer’s initial reaction. That he characterized Delay’s conspiracy theory as an **explosive** charge only indicates an interest in sensationalism. How about more accurate adjectives such as:

    incredulous,
    far-fetched,
    suspect,
    dubious,
    unsubstantiated,
    conspiratorial,
    improbable or
    unconvincing

    No, it’s “explosive!”

  47. anthony v. cuccia Says:

Tom DeLay can talk and accuse all he wants. But Tom
is just a fish on the hook. No matter how hard he
wiggles he’s going to stay caught. Let’s hope he
is stuffed and mounted on the wall as a trophy. Then
we can make room for some other big trophy fish
    (like Rove, Cheney, and Bush).

Trying a new format to make it a bit easier to pull multiple links together. Let us know what you think. Thumbs up? Or thumbs down?

  49. Jason Says:

Why do folks continue to give the Clintonistas a pass when they blame the “vast right wing conspiracy” (with the same evidence - or lack thereof - as DeLay put forth) but not the opposite?

If you’re gonna call bulls**t, call it both ways or else you’re just a partisan hack like the rest of ‘em.

Is this a crock? Yep. Was the “vast right wing conspiracy”? Yep.

  50. hate bush Says:

If this were a democrat instead of DeLay, Blitzer would have been producing “gotcha” documents, old CNN footage and generally ridiculed the person.

Instead we have Blitzer being deferential to DeLay, and basically giving him very little crap over his ridiculous conspiracy theories.

OJ is still looking for the real killer, and I think DeLay will be doing so as well.

  51. Jay Says:

kindness in #24 posted a link to Barack Obama’s letter/article at DailyKos. I just finished reading it and I agree that “it’s good” in the sense that it’s well-written, sensible and it gives him a statesman like air. What irks me about it is that it’s dishonest.

The Americans that have been paying close attention over the last five years know that this administration is dangerously incompetent, greedy and corrupt. What’s more, the GOP leadership in tandem with the Rove propaganda machine and the rightwing media have been so sleazy and dishonest in their ongoing effort to destroy the Democrats (and all that they are SUPPOSED to represent) that an attempt by Obama to “settle down” the progressive community is insulting, frankly. Obama and the so-called Democratic leadership is still playing this game as if there are rules and decorum. The Gingrich Revolution tossed the rules in the trash as they decalred their intentions to bareknuckle brawl and Democratic opposition. Has Obama and his Senate colleagues failed to recognize this?

The grassroots (netroots) progressives that are so passionate and patriotic are trying to shake the Dems out of their collective spinelessness. So now Obama extends his hand to perhaps the most prominent player, in an almost patronizing attempt to quell some of the dissent. Please! Save it for your next election. We need fighters and we need truth. Obama becomes a member of the elite club that is the Senate and he fails to recognize that we are in the midst of an unprecedented “slash and burn” assault on democracy and our system of checks and balances and he wants to find common ground?

I really liked this guy as he stormed onto the scene in impressive fashion last fall. His speech at the Dem convention was as inspiring as any I’ve seen in many years……but he started to lose me in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearings on Bolton to the U.N. as he played footsie with the GOP’ers in that hearing. He’s trying to be a leader here but he’s honestly missing the point. They Democrats are truly GOP-lite and Obama’s attempt to step up, reach out and be a leader hear has missed the mark.

I’ll say it again. We need fighters now, not statesmen. Roll up your sleeves Barack and start throwing some punches!

  52. Terrytheturtle Says:

#49, I think that the ‘vast right wing conspiracy’ comment is defensible from the point of view that given the Starr inquiry spent millions of dollars of tax-payers money for years and came (sorry) up with one stained dress and a few minor indictments. I think there was more money spent on Whitewater than on 9-11 Commission for heaven’s sake, wasn’t there?

The drum beat in the press, on the radio was incessant ‘Get Clinton’ - it was not about the law it was about stopping Clinton’s agenda anyway they could - that was the conspiracy, maybe it was just politics. Clinton was a fool and a disappointment for all his potential, besides all that.

Is this a ‘vast left wing conspiracy’? Maybe, but as I thought when I heard Hilary - “Prove it”. I am satisfied that Hilary was mostly right back then in retrospect. So no, I don’t need to call it both ways to avoid being a partisan hack, the courts can decide about the Bugman’s guilt, as for a conspiracy to get him, that’s for his burden of proof same as it was for Hilary.

  53. Terrytheturtle Says:

Incidentally, the presence of a ‘vast left wing conspiracy’ true or not, is absolutely irrelevant to the question of Delay’s guilt in a crime, same for Clinton, same for Delay.

  54. Patriot Says:

    He’s gone crazy.

  55. Massachusetts Liberal Says:

Rumsfeld used this technique also. He said that they knew that Iraq had WMD and that they knew where they were.

  57. StealthBadger Says:

Jason, put down the pipe, and step away from it with your hands behind your head, nice, and easy.

Now on one hand, we have institutionalized corruption, war profiteering, racist statements about high-rolling contributors, a relationship with K street that can only be described as “incestuous,” and games of “pass the employee” with paths that are more intricate than the web you’d get if you fed a spider a combination of meth and peyote. As far as coverage, at least half of the news articles about it are soothing, “nothing to see here, move along” pieces.

On the other hand, we have lying about an improper affair, an ancient and incredibly popular pasttime the world over, with the media hanging on to every salacious detail.

    The prosecution rests.

  58. Marci Kiser Says:

Isn’t this the sort of ‘evidence’ that got girls hung for witchcraft a few hundred years ago (by the Christian Right of *their* day, no less)?

  59. Sharon Cox Says:

Marci, they got burned, hung and drowned for far less by the christian right. Most of them for just owning a cat, dog or broom to sweep the kitchen. I could be next for having all three. Oh Well! Jay #51 Bravo. I heard the speach and was moved, then, have read the article and agree whole heartedly. We need good strong people to do their jobs. No more Dem.lite, centerests, watered down right wingers. To many seem to be running to win at their next election. Leaving our progressives to flounder is not working for me and have been very busy this morning telling them I am not going to support them if they continue to support all these bad policies of the Bush administration…..Blessings

  60. Mike LaMartina Says:

What a surprise. When treed like the slimy creature he is, Delay resorts to the oldest scoundrel’s trick in the book.

THEY consipired against me. THEY colluded. THEY lied about me.

Normally, I’d say that these are simply the usual rantings of a slick professional politician. But in Delay’s case, I’m convinced they are the paranoic utterances of a very sick mind.

Just how much pesticide do you think Tommy Boy ingested in his years as Sugarland’s premiere exterminator?

I WAS ON CNN!!! WOH! I wrote that comment not thinking it would have been on TV. I typed quickly on my slightly broken keyboard, and I didn’t bother spell checking. Had I KNOWN I’d get my 15 minutes of fame (more like 15 seconds) I would have spelled Jack CAFFERTY’S name correctly! I’m sorry, Jack!

This was my lesson to begin watching my typing!

I sure hope CNN didn’t point that out as a way to make it seem like Liberals can’t spell, because I can!!

    Alright, I’m done.

  65. doncom Says:

Wasn’t there a series of articles in Salon several years ago about DeLay lying under oath about his terminator business? This would be, I think, before he became a congressman.

  67. I Remember Says:

DeLay is just using the well-honed, proven playbook of the new Newt Gingrich style Republicans: use ad hominem attacks, deny all, and then just keep doing the dirty tricks. It work - Bush was “elected” in 2004 this way.

  68. SergeiRostov Says:

    #49

#63 and let’s not forget David Brock - former member of the VRWC - who saw the light and wrote “Blinded by the Right”, which exposed part of said conspiracy.

For that, I suggest further reading (off the top of my head): Joe Conason’s “The Hunting of the President: The Ten-Year Campaign to Destroy Bill Clinton” and “The Republican Noise Machine”. I sure you can come up with others.

Read up. They went after Clinton’s family, pardoned a serial rapist. The man who murdered a veteran in a public park involving a beating with claw hammers. Wayne Dumond turned state’s evidence on two others for that prior offense, the veteran was going to the park to ask Dumond about his dealings with the nam veteran’s 17 year old niece.

The Freepers went on a letter writing campaign to get him freed including Jerome Corsi (half of the Swift Boat smear campaign). Mike Huckabee pardoned the man despite substantial evidience used in sentencing to deliver a maximum sentence. The pardoned rapist went on to rape and kill women in two red states.

While undergoing parole appeals he was giving logisitical support by a Bush RNC delegate from Cheney’s town of Houston who employed his wife.

  73. Real Republic » Where’s Reality Again? Says:

[…] Tom Delay thinks that what is going on with him is a conspiracy concocted by Ronnie Earle, Nancy Pelosi, ya know, all those damned evil liberals. Best part, is that he has no evidence, doesn’t know when he will be able to share evidence….but gosh dangit he’s got evidence! […]

  75. outtadabayou Says:

Tom Delay is blatantly lieing his a** off. Puh-leez. Interestingly enough, the first day the indictment was reported all of the local and national news shows –even the bbc, commented on how confusing the whole situation really was–maybe if your parents decided they couldn’t have babies and just shaved a monkey–but I refused to believe this and –as if by magic–within 24 hours all reports were discussing those very confusing details–even the bbc–I’m afraid though that the media i.e., Blitzer are giving Delay way too much respect. I am from the south, the man is a bullshitter and pathological liar, he is incapable of telling the truth.

  76. Candor7 Says:

    Look,

Why are the dems of Texas after Tom Delay? Simple.
He won the last federal election in his district and is responsible for the Republican led redistricting of electoral districts in Texas that will assure a Republican majority in 2006. The Dems can’t do anything about it. So they want to bring Delay Down.

Well, I doubt thats going to happen. Rumors of Delay’s demise are very much exaggerated, as you will see over the next several weeks. He is finished as a federal politician, but , no way this bogus indictment will come to trial. Count on it.

  77. Think Progress » The DeLay Rules: Sound Advice For Everyone But DeLay Says:

[…] So I’m proud of my Congress for finally having the balls to stand up to the tyranny of the poor, and for cutting $844 million of food stamps out of the budget. Well, I’m proud of the Republican party: the Democrats, citing something called a “conscience,” voted to keep giving food to the poor. Another victory against the massive liberal conspiracy for the underdogs that control both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the White House. […]

It was an imaginative idea by which the deaths of tribal elders would pay for lobbying services for those left behind. It was also more than the Tigua Tribal Council could stomach!”

“Abramoff found anothe niche market to which the evangelical Reed could connect him: dying African American Christians. If Reed could as he promised Abramoff in an email, deliver 85,000 Christian voters,” Abramoff must have ass umed he could deliver enough dying black Christians to crate a new revenue stream. In July 2003, Abramoff e-mailed Reed regarding, “Black Churches Insurance program.” Per our discussion. Let me know how we can move forward to chat with folks who can set this up with African American elderss. IT CAN BE HUGE!” Texas Observer August 26, 2005, page 19
