Harriet Miers: The Ultimate Loyalist

Harriet Miers: The Ultimate Loyalist

Harriet Miers, Bush’s next pick for the Supreme Court, is currently White House Counsel and once served as Bush’s personal lawyer. She has never been a judge. But what she lacks in experience she makes up for in devotion. Here is what the National Review’s David Frum had to say about Miers last week:

In the White House that hero worshipped the president, Miers was distinguished by the intensity of her zeal: She once told me that the president was the most brilliant man she had ever met.

Frum concluded, “This is no time for the president to indulge his loyalty to his friends.” Looks like he was wrong.

That quote alone ought to disqualify her.

  2. ohdave says:

Cronyism extended to the Supreme Court.

  3. Mary Poppin says:

Heaven help us all if this woman gets in!!! The Dems better fight like hell against this woman.

  4. Seth says:

As a conservative who trusted Bush I am deeply disapointed. I hope both Democrats and Republicans work together to defeat Miers.

  5. RJR says:

I know he is dummer than a box of rocks but do they really think she’ll get in? She must be serving some purpose…what is it?

  6. Andrew says:

Having never been a judge is irrelevant. Rehnquist was never a judge, and neither was Jackson or Taft (I believe).

A justice should be familiar with apellate work, how laws are made, and should be a good writer.

Miers may be a terrible choice, but not having been a judge is a dead end issue.

  7. Ichi263 says:

RJR I think the purpose is typical Bush admin tactics, diversion. Introduce a candidate like this while your friends (DeLay, Frist, Rove, etc) are in the spotlight to divert attention from them, and hope the public forgets about them (for at least a little while.

  8. Ellis says:

RedState frets that this may be the female version of Souter. Would that be so bad all things considered? Look at the qualified (albeit objectionable to the left) RW candidates Bush bypassed.

  9. Christopher Chase says:

Mr. Bush announced in his nomination speech that she had been a board member of Exodus Ministries, a group that uses religion to mask open homophobia and hatred.

Along with her obvious cronyism, this makes her unfit to apply the law fairly. There is no way she is thus qualified.

Not having been a judge isn’t an issue. That can be a good thing.

  10. Ellis says:

    7. Ichi —- Or, line the Court with friendlies so when Frist, DeLay, et al get there the die is cast.

  11. dave says:

    >

Proof that she’s not a good judge. That, or she hasn’t met very many people.

Let’s see .. redstate screaming, dkos screaming, huffpo screaming .. HILARIOUS!

I thought this comment by Attytood was quite revealing. I think this is one that will require the filibuster.

  14. ohdave says:

    NYT: “positions on…abortion… not known”

Has it occurred to anyone that the GOP gurus really don’t want R v W overturned? It would be the worst thing that could ever happen to the Rep. party.

  15. Lee says:

To judge her by a kind comment she made about the president is narrow minded. Nothing has been said about her ability as a lawyer and other credentials.
Looking at her criteria for serving on the Supreme Court is the issue, not who her friends are.

  16. Ellis says:

I’ve seen conservative comments to the effect of: “we supported you all these years for this momemnt, george. have you lost your senses?” What, you mean GW wasn’t “right” all these years? I’m, LMAO.

  17. Michael says:

Bush is the epidamy of arrogance. I trust that the quote “pride commith before the fall”, will be applied here.

  18. bmatth says:

When George was announcing Harriet Miers he gave a list of the organizations she supported. Did I hear right when he said Exodus (the gay conversion folks)? If Dems do not fight this one I will stop voting for them.

  19. just john says:

    It’ll make the questioning easier.

“Have you ever heard of the Supreme Court”?

  20. Gary Kleppe says:

She once told me that the president was the most brilliant man she had ever met.

Did she keep a straight face?

  21. Marie says:

    G. Bush is “brilliant”!?
Well, that says a lot about her judgment doesn’t it.
One curious note – she has never married, never had children. Wonder how if she will have a different perspective than the men on the SCOTUS regarding women’s issues – not that reproduction/marriage is a test, but it does bode a uniquely feminine view.

  22. Marie says:

RJR – Bush will need friends in the highest of places when his impeachment trial comes down.

  23. Slingshot.org says:

    Harriet Miers

Miers is a shockingly bad pick for the Supreme Court, a choice seemingly designed by Bush to inflame tensions between the Senate Democrats and the White House.

First, she’s a crony, an unreconstructed idolater of George W. Bush. The Supreme Court…

  24. Marie says:

    #15 Lee — please read #13.

  25. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Conservatives are NOT happy. I don’t know what we can do about it, but this is a huge mistake. You might actually get your impeachment wish if their is a backlash over this come next election.

  26. MLDB says:

Frum had some problems with this, but we should also send some band-aids to John Podhoretz:

“I am going to assume that this is a classic Bush head-fake gambit. If I’m wrong, I will spend the weekend banging my head against a concrete wall. This is the Supreme Court we’re talking about! It’s not a job for a political functionary!”

    (saw it on Atrios)

  27. Andrew says:

I wonder if she will have to recuse herself if anything comes up that involves the Shrub and his cronies. She’s been on his staff since 2001 after all.

People on both sides of the ideological divide sure seem in an uproar over this! Hardly the reception they anticipated! Then again, the R senators have already recieved their marching orders from Bill “Cat Gut” Frist so it doesn’t really matter what they post on redstate.org.

  28. I-RIGHT-I says:

I wish Bush had the Balls to nominate a White Anglo Saxon Protestant Male to the position. One who likes guns, hates Ginsberg and the ACLU and is homophobic as the day is long. Sigh…another f’ing woman.

  29. I-RIGHT-I says:

she has never married, never had children. Wonder how if she will have a different perspective than the men on the SCOTUS regarding women’s issues – not that reproduction/marriage is a test, but it does bode a uniquely feminine view.

    Comment by Marie

She’s probably a man hater. Guys, we’re screwed. You dumbasses on the Left will just take a little longer to figure it out.

  30. Andrew says:

Frum’s outlook on this is not good. I like this quote

Nor is it safe for the president’s conservative supporters to defer to the president’s judgment and say, “Well, he must know best.” The record shows I fear that the president’s judgment has always been at its worst on personnel matters.”

The wheels are coming off the bus my friends! Can you say LAME DUCK???

  31. Mary Poppin says:

NED If this makes the conservatives unhappy then I am happy. The Dems plan on taking over in 2006 and you can cry in your beer. Mark my word Bushie and his cronies will be impeached before 2008.

  32. Andrew says:

    Hey IRI,

save your hate speech for your buddies over at redstate.org. Nobody here wants to hear your misinformed bigotry.

  33. good vibes says:

I saw people like I-Right-I in the movie Easy Rider but I didn’t know they still existed

  34. Punchy says:

I am just stunned that, after the Brown debacle, and the cronyism exposed in this gov’t, that he’d so blantantly nominate another crony. This is bile-producing.

Seriously, what arrogance does this man possess? I expected a die-hard conservative (although I obviously dont want one), not another loyalist.

This is just stunning. He’s gonna be cooked by BOTH sides of the aisle, this time.

  35. David says:

  36. Oliver Willis » Trouble in Paradise? says:

[...] Like Mike Brown, and other inept and corrupt members of this administration, Miers seems to have been picked because she’s done a good job of sucking up to El Presidente. [...]

  37. Original Andrew says:

Good point plunger! All those big TP headlines the past couple of days had me thinking the same thing.

Yeah, leak some bogus info to Stephanopoulos cuz you know he’ll run with it. That will keep those dirty hippies busy for a couple of days!

  38. Dartanyon says:

With ties to the scandal-ridden TX Lottery Commission, Miers is yet one more example of Bush’s utter lack of judgment.

  39. Jay says:

No one seems to be commenting on the “grace” word.

Bush used the word “grace” in describing Harriet Miers. “Grace” is one of the Christian code words that Bush uses to signal his evangelical base that the candidate is one of them. (When listening to a broadcast of his announcement, notice how Bush pauses after he says then word “grace” — you can almost see him giving a wink-wink to his base.)

In addition, Miers’ resume includes volunteer work with Christian organizations, usch as “Exodus Ministries”. Finally, she has two degrees from Southern Methodist University.

My suspcicion is that Miers may appear to not be a right-winger, per se, but on issues such of Roe v. Wade, gay rights, and privacy she may be the uber-conservative that Bush desires on the bench.

  40. Jay says:

Yes, I agree that this is a diversionary tactic and that Karl Rove (who else) is the puppeteer behind this particular move. It not only serves to change the subject from Katrina, Iraq, Delay, Safavian, Frist, etc. but it does create a conundrum for the Democrats (another Rove forte). A healthy dose of disappointment from the far-right on Miers makes opposition from the Dems a bit of a political tightrope, hence she might have a shot and ultimately I think that the Bush administration is preparing seriously for how they’re going to escape not only impeachment but far more serious problems. The house of cards has come crashing down and they know that the American public now knows too much about their motives. Having a staunch Bush loyalist (and champion of Big Business) on the SC is a two-pronged CYA move, I’m convinced of it.

  41. Blasto says:

He is going to need her when in a few years, every single case involving his and his friend’s high crimes and misdemeanors ends up before the Supreme Court. Why worry about having a good attorney, when your own attorney is a Justice. He is just planning for the future.

  42. Jparker says:

Does anyone think this Administration isn’t above throwing Miers out to the Senate, knowing that Conservatives and Dems would balk at her meager / unknown credentials? The Senate would be softened up by throwing her out of committee, and they next nominee would have the weight of pressure from the public to get someone confirmed. In a normal Administration this would be an unethical strategy, but I wouldn’t out it past Rove….

    I-R-I;

  43. wisedup says:

More ’stacking of the deck’….so she thinks bushie is ‘brilliant’…..oh my….

  44. Mary Poppin says:

How can anyone think Bushie is ‘Brilliant’ he only got a “c” in school. We are in big trouble if this woman gets on the court. They might have something else plan for us. The media will be talking about this woman and Delay, Frist, Rove, Libby etc. will get a free ride.

  46. Terry C. Potter says:

Have any of you dorks even looked at her credentials?
How about a list of candidates from which you would have liked Bush to select his nominee.

  47. just john says:

Talking Points does mention that there are more than one “Exodus Ministries” and that the one from Mier’s home town doesn’t sound all that bad.

    http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2005_10_02.php#006678

(So we should probably find out which one she did the work for.)

  48. Jay says:

Terry, any relation to that lovable old Mr. Potter from It’s a Wonderful Life? Just asking.

  49. Original Andrew says:

Actually I saw her credentials (or the lack thereof) and I’m seriously unimpressed. It turns out I’m not alone. Many people on both sides of the aisle seem to be up in arms about this.

  50. AvengingAngel says:

The Miers SCOTUS selection shows all the defining characteristics of the Bush White House. The cronyism and patronage that wrecked FEMA is now coming to the Supreme Court.

To see why Harriet Miers joins the likes of Michael Brown, Joe Allbaugh, and Julie Myers in the Bush Hall of Shame, see:

There’s no such word as misogyny. Like homophobic it was created to label conservative men who refuse to get with the “feminist/homosexual program”. I don’t hate women or queers I just believe both have their proper place…kitchen and closet.

  52. Jay says:

    I-RIGHT-I,

As do you: under a rock.

  53. Ryan Neat says:

All words were ‘created’, that’s how they become words. I see your understanding of linguistic is as wrong as your understanding of politics and religion. Everyone has to give MrWrongFascist a 100% score card for his persistence with ignorance!

See he thinks he’s SO smart that he knows more about religion, politics and science than people who’ve spent their entire lives studying those things. And yet when pressed, he knows NOTHING about any of them. He’s truly a ‘bush’ republican..

  54. Ryan Neat says:

Why would anyone want to put an ‘attorney’ who had never served as judge as a supreme court justice. It’s like putting a guy in as president who’s never done anything productive his whole life – oh wait, that’s bush!

Now I see the connection. He figures if he can fail his whole way to the top in politics – then surely job qualifications don’t matter in the supreme court… What a retard!

  64. Randy says:

    #62,

Why can’t you give Bush’s service record a rest? It has already cost you Rather. His career was already over by the time he went with the phony docs story but he was still an idiot for running with it because he wanted to believe the story was true. He is just the like the rest of you idiot liberals. You have lost your power, but still try to operate as if you have it.

  65. Carlos says:

I have supported the Republicans, but I’m getting fed up.. This president does nothing on our borders, he apooints political cronies such as Michael Brown, he does not veto budgets with as much as 6000 pieces of pork, he vows to rebuild New Orleans, a corrupt liberal created slum with our tax dollars, He forces our troops to fight using 17th & 18th century warfare tactics..

All this leads me to suspect his rational for picking this woman.. Especially given the number of excellent known candidates.. With this pick he has lost my support… I live in Florida, his brother is never getting my vote either..

It has already cost you Rather.

Big whoop. Rather was never “ours” anyway. He was a liberal like Bush is a war hero.

His career was already over by the time he went with the phony docs story but he was still an idiot for running with it because he wanted to believe the story was true.

The story was true, chuckles. The documents may not have been originals, but witnesses confirmed that their content was accurate.

He is just the like the rest of you idiot liberals. You have lost your power, but still try to operate as if you have it.

Yes, I’m sure you’d be happy if we just laid back and enjoyed it. Sorry, but no thanks.

  69. Ebba says:

I appreciate much of your insight. I knew there was something fishy about this nomination, and after doing some reading, I believe several of your comments are true. First, I admire (in a disguisted sort of way) the admin.’s diversionary tactics. Second, if she does get through, what better than a friend on the SC when impeachment comes around? – As we all know it will.

  70. Marie says:

    #37 I haven’t forgotten the Chertoff story!
I also have copied the American Judas piece on Rumsfeld and Cheney, Khan and Musharraf. That’s the problem, there are so many dirty little stories leaking out everywhere, it is hard to keep up with them all. This is one slimy administration. From top to bottom.

  74. InXanadu says:

My APOLOGY for my previous comment (#78). Let me AMEND it. It seems that “Exodus Ministries” is not the same as “Exodus International”. The latter is an anti-gay group, but according to another website Miers worked with the FORMER group, which helps ex-criminals work their wasy back into society productively. I was too quick to judge. Sorry, but that other group hits a nerve with me!

Exodus International is anti-homosexual like Alcoholics Anonymous is anti drunk. You’re too quick to judge because you’re short on knowledge and long on propaganda. Grow up. Even Ryan “Where’s the Beef” Neat could overcome his addiction to sexual perversion if he desired to.

    Comment by InXanadu

Homosexuals have the highest suicide rate of any group among the Filthy Left and it’s little wonder. They KNOW they are sick and yet their peers (you) tell them it’s natural to do unnatural things. High instances of alcohol and drug abuse, potentially deadly unprotected sex and self loathing all lead desperate men and boys to do desperate things. They need someone willing to tell them the truth; God did not intend for them to live that kind of life. There is help for those willing to seek it out.

Ma’m, this is Texas. Where men are men and not transsexual transvestite urban wussies who are afraid to call a spade a spade and a homo a deviant. But the fact is I am big, mean and ugly and I scare people. So, I’d “talk this trash”, speak the truth anywhere in this country other than a homo biker bar. I’m brash and opinionated but I’m not f’ing crazy.

  82. progressive and proud says:

You are obviously homophobic and guess what? There are gay men in Texas, you know. Why do you feel the need to engage Ryan with pet names? Why do you do this? Do you know? Have you ever thought about it? Why do gay men scare you? Are you scared of becomming gay? Are you not ’secure’ enough to not care who is zooming who? Homosexuality is irrelevant in my world. I just don’t care what others do in their bedroom – I’m not invited in. Have you ever heard, “(s)he dost protest too much?” Look it up.

And yes, you do scare people.

  83. I-RIGHT-I says:

I could never understand anyone being sooo afraid of sex, unless he/she is really really bad at it.

    Comment by sickohypocrites

I’m not afraid of sex, it’s just that I’ve learned (the hard way) that sex in an of itself and for itself is unhealthy, both physically, mentally and spiritually. Since becoming a Right Wing Conservative Christian I’ve decided to use my powers for good and not evil. What that means is I don’t have to screw every woman that falls for my charm, good looks, high character, intelligence and money. In fact I met one last night, a neighbor no less. She doesn’t know it but she’s lucky she didn’t meet me a few years ago.

You Left Wing Horn Toads don’t have a clue.

  84. progressive and proud says:

You said you were ugly in the post above. So what horrible trauma happened to you that you converted from one extreme to the other? Is it always about extremes with neocons? It’s either a drunken, womanizing party animal or it’s a AA, woman hating saint. What gives? What made you this way?

“You are obviously homophobic and guess what? ”

Hate to break it to you toots but it’s normal for a mentally, physically and spiritually healthy male to be disgusted by homosexuality. Fear and loathing doesn’t enter into the picture. Like I said, there’s no such word as homophobic. It was made up to denigrate normal men just like the “study” was to show that men who are disgusted by homosexuality are actually latent homosexuals. I could fund a study to prove that you are an idiot. It would cost about $1.25.

“There are gay men in Texas, you know.”

No. There may be some sexually maladjusted and challenged males here in Texas but we have no “gay” guys. We have homos, queers and the ever favorite “rump rangers”, but no gays. Sorry.

“Why do you feel the need to engage Ryan with pet names? ”

Two reasons; he told me he’s a homo and he’s an ratbastardcommieasshole.

“Why do you do this? Do you know? Have you ever thought about it? Why do gay men scare you? Are you scared of becomming gay? Are you not ’secure’ enough to not care who is zooming who?”

“Zooming”? Is that what you call deviant sex? I think homosexuals who are not in the closet bearing their sins in private, who demand that they be accepted as “normal”, who demand access to children particularly little boys, who spread disease and demand that school children be indoctrinated into the homosexual lifestyle are to be fought tooth and nail. It’s as simple as that.

“Homosexuality is irrelevant in my world. I just don’t care what others do in their bedroom – I’m not invited in. Have you ever heard, “(s)he dost protest too much?” Look it up.”

All that means is you are a selfish, uncaring, morally bankrupt little toad wallowing in the relativism of pop culture. Oh, it also means you’re a bad American.

“And yes, you do scare people.”

Oh, please. You’ll turn my head.

  86. progressive and proud says:

Look you’re ugly in one post and you’re good looking in the next – you will lie and say whatever sounds “good” to you at the time to make an argument that you feel is valid at the time. The key phrase, at the time. You obviously change with the wind as we can see right here.

Calling females “toots” is degrading and shows your lack of breeding. It also clearly shows that you have strong issues with respect to women.

And yes, there are apparently a heck of a lot more words than you know, homophobic being one of them. Denial isn’t helping your cause.

  87. Jay says:

    I-Wrong-

What you don’t understand is that homosexuality is not a choice. Admitting that you are gay and being true to yourself is. I have two very dear friends that are gay, one male one female and they both have explained to me in detail how much pressure they felt to keep it a secret because of the prevailing hate/bigotry/ignorance that would accompany their true selves. They have both come to terms and admitted to friends and family that they were gay. After some difficult times they are MUCH happier and better off for it. Why would you condemn or hate someone for being themselves? If you had a child that was gay would you consider them sick or deviant or evil? Of course you wouldn’t, you can’t control nature. The religious right and the gay-hating self-loathers of the world believe that sexuality is a conscious decision and I’m here to tell you that it isn’t. You and I instinctively, naturally are attracted to a woman….do you think you could force yourself to undo that? Come on man, break away from the chains of ignorance and a closed mind. You can do better.

Comment by Jay — October 4,

What you don’t understand is…I don’t believe any of that. Homosexuals can’t help themselves any more than any other psychologically disturbed person can help themselves but as some studies and tests and trials show, people can heal. I’m for healing not for rationalizing and harmonizing the illness. It makes sense to me that people get hurt at a young age and carry it with them the rest of their lives. It makes sense to me that professional help is required. It does not make sense to enable homosexuals to feel normal in a situation that puts them at risk for further psychological stresses and for debilitating and deadly CONTAGIOUS diseases that can infect the general population.

I am aware of the studies and where they sprang from that say I am wrong. It is pseudo-science and becoming less mainstream every day as real work is being done on the subject that continues to help people who want help.

I don’t believe children are born homosexual. That is inconsistent with any real science I’ve ever heard of and it’s inconsistent with my beliefs as a Christian. But, regardless of how Ryan Neat got the way he is; he and men like him are a danger to society when they insist that the culture accept and normalize and even institutionalize their deviant behavior.

You should read up on what the homosexual rights groups are up to. If it doesn’t piss you off and make you fear for your country you’re just not thinking “straight”.

Oh, sorry to lift up your skirt. Women do a fine enough job of degrading themselves. What little I might do is peanuts. I have “issues” all right but they have nothing to do with the way I treat a lady when I find one. Here ya go toots, here’s what thirty years of the Filthy Left has done to our nation’s girls. I hope you’re happy. It makes me sick….

Young women lead the way in tearing down sex taboos: new US survey

Young women are leading the way in tearing down sexual taboos in North America, where teenagers are having more sex at a younger age than their parents and grandparents, a new survey showed.

Freewheeling young women in the United States and Canada first have intercourse at the age of 15, partake more in oral sex than previous generations and are far less prudish, according to a landmark new report by researchers at California’s San Diego State University.

Between 1943 and 1999, the age of first intercourse dropped to 15 from 19 for females, while the percentage of sexually active young women rose to 47 percent from just 13 percent in 1943, according to the study that appears in the most recent issue of the Review of General Psychology.

“Feelings of sexual guilt plummeted, especially among young women. Attitudes toward premarital sex became dramatically more liberal over the same period,” the analysis of 530 studies spanning five decades and involving more than a quarter of a million young people said.

Over the same 56-year period, approval of premarital sex increased from 12 percent to 73 percent among young women, while the figure rose from 40 percent to 79 percent among young men, according to the study.

“The change in young women’s beliefs about premarital sex was enormous,” said Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University who co-authored the report with Brooke Wells of City University of New York.

Come on, it is obvious the left has no clue how to reach beyond there limited views, and the Right obviouslly appeal to the most people, just there leadership could care less what there voters wanted the days after Election day…

Merry Christmas early Democrats, the Bush administration has done the one thing i didnt think was possible, divide the conservatives and piss them all off. If the Dems didnt fight it, it would be a terrible mistake and missed oppurtunity on making up some serious ground on a shaken Right

During her vetting, the Senate should ask Miers if she will recuse herself when Bush/Cheney are brought before the Supreme Court on charges.

The choice of Miers over many other potential (inexperienced) candidates was based on her loyalty, doing what it takes — like in handling the National Guard situation.

She’s needed on the bench as insurance to those in power. Consider her appointment as her retainer fee and pre-payment for services not yet rendered in stamping the “Get out of Jail” card for Bush/Cheney in their trials on war crimes, war profiteering, mass murder, high crimes, etc. in 2006 when the Republican hold of congress slips from their grasp and investigations finally get out of committee with the power to ask questions and press for answers.

  98. progressive and proud says:

Truly harmful people. They, Jay, are out of the norm. People that act and think with the very useful tool of logic haven’t believed ancient thoughts like this in years. Away go leeches and bleeding people to get the ‘bad humors’ out, so goes bigotry and shameful hatred of fellow citizens.

All humans with an average or better brain pan know that trying to ‘convert’ gays is ridiculous. Why on earth would they care? These bigots and their sexed up thoughts of perversion are perverse in and of themselves.

Here in TN they shut a “camp” down because the children are being tortured just for something they cannot help. NO ONE was ever converted and the “counselors” also know this. I’m surprised the bigots here with all of their information and knowledge don’t. What they actually teach these young people is how to hide it and accept it. They know they will always have these feelings but are tought to understand that these shameful “feelings” can be successfully repressed. Whatever that means. See my point?

I mean really, my best friend knew when he was 5 how he felt. Was he preconditioned? His heterosexual brother wasn’t. His own father called him faggot. His father wishes he didn’t though now; he has lost the respect of his son and sure regret his horrible treatment of him. See, he just didn’t understand. He was merely mimicking others that he thought “knew.” Wrong he was. The earth isn’t flat, we don’t live in a vacuum and all people are equal. Ignorance, apparently, is not bliss – it is mean and contentious.

  99. progressive and proud says:

IRI, you keep admonishing others here. Why do you keep referring to “butts” in your posts? You continue to use sexual references and sexual inuendo in every single post. You seem so fixated that it makes you look scared. Did your Christianity teach you all of this hatred?

  100. I-RIGHT-I says:

    comment by P & “sexual therapist” P

“All humans”? You know this is typical. If you believe conservative values are important, you’re stupid. If you think that possibly homosexuality is a mental disorder (like we did until the homos threatened and exhorted the APA to remove the illness from the “list”)and can be treated, you’re stupid. ANYONE WHO IS SMART, LIKE YOU believes what you believe. You know if I didn’t read this and hear this from you losers all the time I’d never believe it was possible that a group of people could be so arrogant and conceited in their self delusion.

  102. I-RIGHT-I says:

“Children”? I think that’s bullshit. Where’s the link?

  103. progressive and proud says:

IRI, actually, it is in the Knoxville News Sentinel. This is also in the Tennessean which is in Nashville. This camp did not work. This one kid, which is the teen that started the shut down process of this “camp,” started a blog as well. I have much work to do but will definately bring you up to date as far as this one particular camp.

You do know that even these christians don’t believe converting is possible. You do know that don’t you? They believe that you can repress these feelings to a point where you forget, for lack of a better word, how you relate to the opposite sex. You can say bullshit and that is fine. I speak the truth for I have no reason to lie. I don’t care what you think or I would go to redstate or that wierd green football website. You know why I’m not there? Because the formatting is hard to read, the people can’t spell or use words in context, they say very little and just bash. They giggle like schoolgirls to each other and there are only about 25 posters anyway. Besides, I have better things to do with my rare spare time.

Again, I will dig up the info for you; I want to inform. There is not one proven case of conversion of gay people. Besides, you read (yes I will dig up the piece for you if you can’t) the new scientific studies showing some mice had a tendancy to homosexual behavior. That means, simply put, it is nature and not nurture.

  109. dispepticSkeptic says:

…He is just the like the rest of you idiot liberals. You have lost your power, but still try to operate as if you have it… -IRI

Now THAT is some narrow thinking for you. Listen up kids…

Freedom from serfdom is a liberal idea that thrashed the conservatives of that day.

Free distribution of knowledge, thanks Gutenburg (IRI, ask a liberal who that is) is a liberal idea that beat the conservatives of the day

Freeing scientific thought from the ignorance of the church is a liberal idea that seriously burned the conservatives of the day (and hence gave us the modern scientific method: the theory of gravity, the heliocentric universe (ask a liberal), modern medicine, cell phones and the internet (I know you don’t understand how it works, IRI, that’s OK pard)

Freedom for slaves was a liberal idea fought viciously by conservatives of the day (we almost have that one done)

Allowing women to vote was a liberal idea that crushed its conservative opponents of the day.

Democracy is a liberal idea that trumped the conservatives of the day, and is still shouldering out conservative regiimes the world over.

So, a nut job like Rove may turn back the relentless march of liberalism for a few minutes, and a crony like John Roberts may slow its advance for a few decades, but even good old IRI is not willing to give up the liberal advances his conservatives forebearers thought would bring the world to an end.

Finally, IRI, and your poorly educated peers, if you ever does get to see yourself a real dang dictionary book, look up liberal:

liberal adjective 1 the values of a liberal society tolerant, unprejudiced, unbigoted, broad-minded, open-minded, enlightened; permissive, free, free and easy, easygoing, libertarian, indulgent, lenient. antonym narrow-minded, bigoted. Oh yea the root fo the word? It means freedom, partner. Something that terrifies the shit out of conservatives.

  110. dispepticSkeptic says:

Oh yes I forgot. On more thing my esteemed collegue Mr. IRI…

You said, “I don’t believe children are born homosexual.”

Please be so kind as to share with all of us at what point in your life you were longing for the touch of a young woman, and the touch of a young man, and DECIDED you wanted to go with the women? I.e. if you chose your sexual orientation as you assert we all do, you must have had an attraction for both, or there would be no choice? If you are an actual Christian, rather than the typical “use christianity as shield for being a biggot” christian, then perhaps we can actually get a truthful answer out of you.

  111. tralfaz says:

“But the fact is I am big, mean and ugly and I scare people.”

Why on earth would someone brag about what a big badass they are, when there’s no way for anyone to see any proof? Wait a minute, let me try: “My name is Dash Riprock, I am 6ft-6, weigh 220 lbs of pure muscle, was a navy seal & an army ranger & quit both because they weren’t mean enough, I have “Welcome to Jamaica, have a nice day” tattooed down the length of my dick in inch-block letters, I have made love to thousands of women (including Righty’s momma)….” Hey, Iright, this IS alot of fun…
-I bet if the truth be known, you are a pimply-faced teenager, not terribly bright judging from your arguments, have maxed out your mom’s credit card on Enzyte purchases, and go running to the bathroom to jerk off every time Billy Mays comes on the tube with hix oxycleen commercials. Did you read the previous posts on this thread from this cretin? You can “stop fighting” and “try to get along”, like the Democrats in power. I’m finished with that approach. You don’t necessarily have to have a closed mind to be willing to fight. You just have to be fed up. [...] From the Liquid List Posted by Shawn at http://www.liquidlist.com/ Politics: Comparing Miers’ Education To The Current Court Since Harriet Miers thinks Bush is the “most brilliant man she’s ever met,” I thought it might be interesting to gauge her own smarts compared to the rest of the US Supreme Court. Taken from the US Supreme Court website, below are the undergraduate and law schools attended by the current court’s members, each with a US News rank in parentheses. Roberts: Harvard (1), Harvard (2) Stevens: University of Chicago (15), Northwestern (10) O’Connor: Stanford (5), Stanford (3) Scalia: Georgetown (23), Harvard (2) Kennedy: Stanford (5), Harvard (2) Souter: Harvard (1), Harvard (2) Thomas: Holy Cross (32), Yale (1) Ginsberg: Cornell (13), Harvard (2) Breyer: Stanford (5), Harvard (2) And from nominee Miers’s bio, the comparison: Southern Methodist University (71), Southern Methodist University (52) Well, I’m sure she still got good grades. And it might be nice to have someone on there that didn’t go to Harvard, just for a change. Just for totally meaningless fun, I’ve added up the school ranks for each judge to create a dumbness/smartness heirarchy on a court that includes both Miers and O’Connor. Here is the breakdown: Roberts: 3 Souter: 3 Kennedy: 7 Breyer: 7 O’Connor: 8 Ginsberg: 15 Scalia: 25 Stevens: 25 Thomas: 33 Miers: 123 Using my totally meaningless smartness/dumbness ratio it looks like Miers certainly would have a strong impact on the court.
