Right-Wing Peanut Gallery Hits Miers Hard

The Washington Post recently reported that Bush might go with a Supreme Court nominee that would soothe his conservative political base:

The president’s core supporters are urging bold action to sway the court to the right. Some think Bush might pick a hard-liner to keep his base happy and prevent a further drop in the polls.

It looks like Bush did just the opposite. Here what some conservatives are saying about the Miers nomination:

Michelle Malkin: What Julie Myers is to the Department of Homeland Security, Harriet Miers is to the Supreme Court. It’s not just that Miers has zero judicial experience. It’s that she’s so transparently a crony/’diversity’ pick while so many other vastly more qualified and impressive candidates went to waste. If this is President Bush’s bright idea to buck up his sagging popularity–among conservatives as well as the nation at large–one wonders whom he would have picked in rosier times. Shudder.”

National Review’s David Frum: “The Miers nomination, though, is an unforced error. … [N]obody would describe her as one of the outstanding lawyers in the United States.”

American Spectator Blog: “ There is now talk of among some conservatives about a filibuster of the Miers nomination. …According to several White House sources, few inside the building took the possibility of a Miers nomination seriously. Now that it’s a reality, they are stunned. ‘We passed up Gonzales for this?’ was one conservative staffer’s reaction.”

Instapundit: “Perhaps they’ll change my mind, but so far I’m underwhelmed.”

Public Advocate: “The President’s nomination of Miers is a betrayal of the conservative, pro-family voters whose support put Bush in the White House in both the 2000 and 2004 elections and who were promised Supreme Court appointments in the mold of Thomas and Scalia.”

RedState.org: “Color me less than thrilled . . . I just can’t think that Harriet Miers was the best person for the job.”

National Review’s Corner: “It’s an inspiring testament to the diversity of the president’s cronies. Wearing heels is not an impediment to being a presidential crony in this administration! I can only assume that the president felt that his support was slipping in this important bloc, and he had to do something to shore it up.”

Powerline Blog: “A Disappointment: Harriet Miers, that is. I’m sure that she is a capable lawyer and a loyal aide to President Bush. But the bottom line is that he had a number of great candidates to choose from, and instead of picking one of them–Luttig, McConnell, Brown, or a number of others–he nominated someone whose only obvious qualification is her relationship with him.”

Southern Appeal: I am done with President Bush: Harriet Miers? Are you freakin’ kidding me?! Can someone–anyone–make the case for Justice Miers on the merits? Seriously, this is the best the president could do?”

Right Wing News:Disaster, Thy Name Is Harriet Miers: George Bush’s decision to appoint Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court is bitterly disappointing. Miers is a Bush crony with no real conservative credentials, who leapfrogged legions of more deserving judges just because she was Bush’s pal.”

Something smells fishy. I see Karl Rove’s fingerprints everywhere…

  2. Mary Poppin says:

If all of these Rightwing conservatives are against Harriett Miers than I am for her. Who do they think they are just because they helped Bushie get in office twice. I mean I thought the Supreme court was suppose to be for all the american not just the conservatives. We need a court that is fair to all people.

  3. Zookeeper says:

I’m depressed. Why do I have to start agreeing with Hindrocket and Malkin on a Monday morning? Georgie’s nomination of Harriet “Drownie” Miers is nothing less than a slap in the face to EVERY American. NO UP OR DOWN VOTE!!!

  4. Mary Poppin says:

I have to laugh that the conservative might fillabuster Harriett Miers. They talked about Dems doing this and now they might consider doing this. Laugh !!! Laugh!!! Laugh!!!

  5. Original Andrew says:

Yeah, let’s see the R’s filibuster this one! YES! The ultimate IRONY!!! Where’s the justice sunday now, turd blossoms???

  6. AvengingAngel says:

The Miers SCOTUS selection shows all the defining characteristics of the Bush White House. The cronyism and patronage that wrecked FEMA is now coming to the Supreme Court.

To see why Harriet Miers joins the likes of Michael Brown, Joe Allbaugh, and Julie Myers in the Bush Hall of Shame, see:

    “Banana Republicans.”

  7. The Fly-man says:

I can’t wait to see what John Stewart and The Daily Show do with all these conservative lynching points. Check out Bill Kristols http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/006/166quhvd.asp. How could Bush do this to this woman? I am so proud that I did NOT vote for the goob we have in office. I don’t know if I’ll bookmark this in my Supremes folder or my Nepotism one. Later . The Fly-man.

  8. Citizen80203 says:

The problem is NO ONE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS. Of course, none of it matters when the political reality of our congressional power is considered. We do not have the votes. We will have two unknowns sitting upon the court and there is nothing we progressives can do about it.

  9. Punchy says:

2 points. first, its the enemy-of-my-enemy is my friend idea…although we know NOTHING about her…

also…something seems suspicious….Rove HAD to know he’d get this response. So why’d he pick her? (and no, i didn’t mistake Rove for Bush…I know who’s running this gov’t). Why would Master Dickhead let Bush choose such a devisive candidate? Something doesn’t seem right, here…

  10. progressive and proud says:

Good thing the “nuclear option” didn’t happen. I actually asked one of these stupid trolls about whether they thought doing away with filibusters would eventually come back to hurt them. The answer: we won and we can do whatever we want. They are just SO smart.

What about all of these powers recently given to the president? Eventually there will be a dem in office and they will regret doing this. This speaks volumes. We need government representatives that can see past 4 years. Forward thinking? I think not. So scary.

  11. Magnum DB says:

Both sides dislike this nomination for their own reasons, And just like its been said, it’s because neither side knows anything about her. Conservatives are worried she’s not conservative enough, and liberals are worried she won’t be fair enough.

I’m not sure if there is some greater plan behind this. I think the Bush administration has just completely lost their way and don’t know what to do anymore. They hear people want a female on the court, so Bush picks a female. Both parties show sinking support for Bush so no matter which side his nominee leans to, one side isn’t going to be happy.

And while this is always the case, in this particular instance, Bush seems to be trying to please both sides by picking someone no one can really complain about, because no one knows about her- which of course never works out.

This is the SUPREME COURT. You don’t nominate someone that we know nothing about, since they will decide the fate of all Americans. As it has also been said, this is no time to be nominating your friends, especially when they have no experience.

  12. Zippy the Other Pinhead says:

Cronyism? No doubt about it. But anything that gets Kristol and the rest of the fascist right-wingnuts all hot and bothered is good enough for me…

Unless, of course, this is another Rovism that will come back to bite us — for example, maybe turd blossom vetted this with all the wingnuts ahead of time and told them to wring their hands and pretend to be outraged, to throw us all off track?

Remember, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that your enemies aren’t out to get you…

  13. cynical ex-hippie says:

I think she should at least have some experience managing show horses before taking an important job like this.

  14. Mary Poppin says:

When I think about this, she is only a scapegoat as she will not get out of committee. What are they up to? Rove is back of this. Why would they pick out someone that is only loyal to Bush? We don’t know much about Miers. Another Texan, just what we need. If this is the case I feel sorry for her.

  15. Terrytheturtle says:

#10, BF start witht the Texas Lottery scandal and the Bush National Guard coverup.

#7 why wait for Jon Stewart. The most powerful influence on your Demo senators is letter writing from concerned citizens. If you want this ‘Caligula’s Horse’ put out to grass:
    (1) Find your nearest demo senator
    (2) Draft a letter – send it to your like minded friends – saying why this needs to be stopped and that its time to take a stand
    (3) All send your letters in…

If you don’t have a demo senator – pick one of the weakwilled DINOS (you can get the list from Bushwatch) and write to them.

But wait a second. Miers seems to have graduated from the Alice Cooper school of eye make-up. That’s gotta count for something, right?

  19. Scott says:

Since the MSM demonstrated they can only cover one story at a time, this should effectively keep them from mentioning Plamegate, illegal government funding of propaganda, and murder-for-hire are working their way up the chain to affect the top Repukes. They want this incompetence to distract from all the other incompetence.

  20. Concerned Conservative says:

I think I’ll reserve judgement on this until I can find out a little more about Miers. Seems like an odd pick, but maybe there’s more to her than we think.

  21. Ryan Neat says:

    There is,

She’s a bush loyalist. Not only did she ‘clean up’ bush’s national guard records, but she also helped the whole texas lottery scam businesses out, gave golden parachutes to republicans on taxpayer dimes to ‘hush them’, and was a constant friend of the interests of big business over that of consumers and average texans. She’s a classic corporatist looter…

  22. mouse says:

Agree with you CC, but think you have to admit, the antics and shrieks from both sides so far is HILARIOUS !! :D

  23. Concerned Conservative says:

Now I like her even more, Ryan.

  24. Jon says:

The nomination of Harriet Miers as the replacement for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has united liberals and conservatives in ways few thought possible. Democrats fear she is a stealth arch-conservative. But it Republicans fellow-travelers like Michelle Malkin, Bill Kristol and David Frum who seem most horrified. They are simply astounded that Bush confirmed Americans’ worst fears that he values cronyism over qualification.

    For the details, see:

    “Harriet Miers’ Supreme Opportunism.”

  25. Concerned Conservative says:

    It is pretty funny, mouse!

  26. Ellis says:

I’m leary of a nomination that seems so bad on the surface. Consider: She does not get out of committee or withdraws. The the shrub can say: “See, I tried a moderate and look what happened. I’ll go ultra RW now.”

  27. marblex says:

UHM….attention, sheeple. Meiers was nominated because she promised in advance to endorse everything the Cheney administration does, from torturing people to locking up AMERICAN CITIZENS in concentration camps.

THAT IS THE PLAN ARE YOU ALL BLIND, OR STUPID?

The US will be completely under military rule by March 2006.

That is the plan. It’s moving along at a perfect pace.

    WAKE UP!!!!!!!

  28. Spudge_Boy says:

The only reason this was announced first thing Monday morning was to cover up what George Stephanoplis said on Sunday about Bush being implicated in the Plame Gate scandal.

  29. Mary Poppin says:

THAT IS A SCARY THOUGHT, THE US BEING UNDER MILITARY RULE BY MARCH 2006. I HOPE SHE WILL THINK FOR HERSELF.

  30. Concerned Conservative says:

marblex, do you consider yourself part of the reality-based community?

  31. Montague says:

Good point re: announcement being used to distract attention from Bush’s involvement in PlameGate. Also, Bush is running scared to make such a nomination. Well, actually, Cheney’s running scared but he’s glad to have little George whom he can push out in front of the American people while he hides in the background.

  32. Patriot says:

Is this how one avoids litmus test accusations? By nominating someone who has no record?
I think Rove suggested this to save Bush’s ass in the upcoming charges of treason and conspiracy throughout this gov’t.
    These people are F*CKED.
Dems should not endorse her. She is a crony.

  33. Skid says:

    CC,

Marblex has a far stronger foundation upon the real world than you appear to have CC. You seem to come here and talk GOP in the beginning, then after prodding by Libs, reveal how wishy-washy in a Charlie Brown fashion your political views tend to be.

  34. Patriot says:

I’ll bet Cheney being told to go F*CK himself live on world TV shook their foundation.

  35. Porky says:

I agree with some others on this thread. I’m very suspicious as to what the intent is here. I think it’s clear that she won’t get far. But what does the administration get from making this move? Rove has got to be behind it.

Maybe they are trying to create a major story to get our/the press’ attention off of the Plame case? Or maybe there is another major offensive that is going to take place in Iraq/Afghanistan. Or maybe the Iran/UN thing will be heating up and they need cover?

Or maybe Bush bang’s her on a regular basis and she threatened to tell Laura? I mean, look at the guy. I know Lewinski was no Gwen Stefani, but at least Lewinski had the whole “showin’ the thong” thing going on. This chick [Meirs] is just a power hungry suck up, literally. I’ll bet Bush couldn’t get a chick in a thong on her knees and take one for the team to save his life, unless of course he paid for it. This chick is probably the best he could get with those radar dishes for ears and the hook for a nose. He’s gotta have a small one too, considering his “overly macho” persona. But then, I’ll bet most conservatives have small ones anyway. They lack the intestinal fortitude to step out and take chances.

They are most certainly “up” to something.

  36. Concerned Conservative says:

Skid, I prefer to think of my views as nuanced.

I actually voted for the war before I voted against it.

  37. paul says:

I wonder if the strategy here is precisely to nominate somebody who is likely to face an uphill confirmation battle. If Miers goes through an ugly confirmation, and it is clear that she has neither support from the right or the left, Bush will have to nominate another candidate. In this scenario, he could very well nominate somebody with a stronger, more conservative record. In the present Miers nomination, there may also be some arm-twisting going on — Bush to Senate: “If you don’t take this nominee, just wait until you see the next one.” Now, if the next nominee is stalled as well, Bush could make a real case against the Democrats, who will be painted as stalling the process indefinently.

  39. deegahl says:

A COUPLE OF POINTS: “We” don’t know who Miers is, but Dubya does. Surly he has talked with her at length and knows her temperment and her thoughts on hot-button issues, right? Whatever we think of the man he isn’t as ditached as his Pops was. Also could all of this rankering from the right just be a ploy to throw off the Dems? This smells fishy to me. Drudge has it that Miers tried to get some company to change their stance on abortion.

  40. noway says:

  42. Finnegen says:

There’s a reason why cronies like Ms. Myers are appointed to confidential and personal staff positions to the President. They agree with him and will do everything possible to help enact his agenda. Despite what we’ve seen in the right wing media, folks like Rehnquist and now Myers like many other republican appointees with close ties the to an administration receive appointments because they are known supporters of the administration’s agenda and are willing to carry the White House’s water for them in the Court.

  43. mighty aphrodite says:

I’m sure the aptly named Porky thinks that stellar judicial ‘femme fatale’, Janet Reno, got her job utilizing presidential knee pads? Or Madeline Albright? Great feminine minds are NOT reaaallly appreciated by some on the left, are they?

Watching the libs fold themselves into a fetal position and bang their heads on wall is just tooooo delicious!! Trust me, worried conservatives, Bush knows Miers judicial temperment better than Reagan knew O’Connors or Daddy knew Souters.

  47. Mike says:

  48. Jay says:

It’s too bad that the nation might be saddled with a person of ill-suited intellect for decades because of Bushie playing favorites again.

I wonder for whom Michelle Malkin (see Above quote from her above) is raising money for. If you like to throw some S*** back at him download the conversation and print it. It’s a real gem Later The Fly-man.

  55. Patriot says:

    Off subject, worth repeating:

    From E.L. Doctorow:

“But this president does not know what death is. He hasn’t the mind for it. You see him joking with the press, peering under the table for the WMDs he can’t seem to find, you see him at rallies strutting up to the stage in shirt sleeves to the roar of the carefully screened crowd, smiling and waving, triumphal, a he-man. He does not mourn. He doesn’t understand why he should mourn. He is satisfied during the course of a speech written for him to look solemn for a moment and speak of the brave young Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.”

    THIS is the Bush legacy.

  56. mighty aphrodite says:

    #54 Marie – I hope you’re RIGHT!!!!!

  57. Baldrick says:

There is now talk of among some conservatives about a filibuster of the Miers nomination.

A few months ago they were telling us that the filibuster is immoral, anti-democratic, and anti-American. “Principle” to a Republican means doing whatever it takes to get what you want.

  58. Jamie says:

OMG — If the repubs fillibuster this nomination it would be a HUGE GIFT to the dems!!! When the repubs start screaming “obstructionist!!” and “the Senate is supposed to act like a rubber stamp for the president!!!” dems can just point to how the repubs obstructed Miers. It would be beautiful.

And I really don’t think that the freepers and LGF cretins are “pretending” that they are outraged about this nom. I think they are really really outraged. Go read some of their comments — they are frothing at the mouth with rage at bush and each other.

  59. Ellis says:

The R’s are finally saying (aloud at least) what most of us have recognized for some time. You can’t trust Bush’s word. Perhaps trust his loyalty to friends and confidantes (cronyism), but not his campaign promises regardless of which side of the aisle you’re on. Miers will likely support corporate cases which is what GW really wants IMO. He sold out on the social issues, and the support for those issues that got him elected (well, selected).

  60. Hunter Morrow says:

Bush is doing exactly what I said he was going to do: Screw his base to help big business and the rich. Oh, he’ll be a real Cristian Crusader and eliminate the scourge of fags and abortion off the face of the Earth…until you vote for him. Oh, he just got what he came for, and its the second term, so he won’t be buying any cows. He just got the milk for free.

  61. Marie says:

Miers won’t answer any Senate questions — she will invoke Attorney-client privilege because she has been his personal attorney for years.
    She should be rejected.

“You call them “cronies” – we call them “friends”.”

That is where you are incorrect and show that you need more education.

A friend is somebody you know. You go to the movies together, have BBQs and have a beer.

A crony is somebody that you give a job to, even if they are not qualified.

One step above croyism is nepotism. That would be giving a job to a relative whether they are qualified or not.

  63. Ryan Neat says:

“An excellent example of seeing the same thing from two different prisms – that NOT “prisons” all you RW conspiracy paranoids! ”

Bahaha, this is from the party that brought you ‘McCartyism’ and Whitewater – conspiracy theories are the prism of the reichwing!

“You call them “cronies” – we call them “friends”. ”

Friends are cocktail buddies. When you merge this with ‘unqualified’ for hold a job, it becomes ‘crony’. For someone who supposedly practices law, your grasp of the english language appears incomprehensibly poor.

    Main Entry: cro·ny·ism
    Pronunciation: -nE-”i-z&m
    Function: noun
: partiality to cronies especially as evidenced in the appointment of political hangers-on to office without regard to their qualifications

“You call them “greedy rich” – we call call them, “hard-working wealthy”. ”

And yet, if they were ‘hard working’, that wouldn’t be a problem. The issue is the wealthy generally are neither hard working, nor often entitled to the corporate welfare they receive… They’re often lazy looters that rig the system in favor of their undeserving constituency. But then again, you’ve probably never spent enough time with wealthy americans to realize this – unfortunately I have…

“We call them “terrorists” – some of you sensitive squishy types label them “freedom fighters”. ”

Actually we call you ‘terrorists’. The ’squishy types’ as you call it point out that YOU called them freedom fighters when they fought for you and did unspeakable acts. We point out your hypocrisy of calling murderers you agree with freedom fighters, and those you don’t as terrorists. In reality it’s only because YOU’RE a treasonous terrorist yourself that you so irrationally apply these artificial labels.

“You LOVED the ‘film’, “Motorcycle Diaries” – we loved the ‘movie’ “Patton”. ”

Wow, now a film critic. Actually you loved the Passion, we recognized it as the artificially crafted S&M flick for the closeted gay christians that it actually was…

“We call tax hikes “tax hikes”-you refer to them as “investments”. ”

And yet you TAX HIKED the middle class with the last round of ‘cuts’ you made. How ironic is this? And heaven forbid that a freak like you actually looks at the corresponding data that shows countries with low enforced tax rates on the wealthy turn into banana republics…

“We enjoy reading “the other side” – just finished a enlightening tome – “Building a World Community” edited by the infamous (again, depends on your frame of reference) secular humanist. We relish “1776″ by David McCullough. All depends on your point of view….”

Try ‘collapse’ or ‘wealth and democracy’ some time for some more interesting reading. You’ll find your attitudes under the sections where it talks about governmental mismanagement that causes collapses of empires…

Glad you guys liked it :)

The sad part is the ‘middle class’ americans who are so stupid and unaware that THEY think they’re the rich americans republicans protect. Unless you’re a couple who are individually making 7 figures a year, then you’re NOT who the republican values represent…

This is how you know you’re rich. Ask yourself, if you quit working today, would you ever need to work again to maintain your current lifestyle until you’re 90? If you can quit today and meet that criteria, you’re rich. If you can’t quit and you still vote republican, then you’re a stupid moron who’s too checked out to know you’re voting against your own self interests!

Sponge – by your definition, you don’t have a clue who Bush BBQ’s with – but I did hear he & Ted “the Lifeguard” have watched movies together – and I don’t think they’re friends. Yours is an excellent example of anecdotal evidence – usually pretty thin!!

I know what nepotism is – a great example you might have used was when JFK appointed RFK Atty General. Now, THERE’S a case of nepotism.

  71. Ryan Neat says:

Mighty Bag brings up the ONE case of nepotism to counter a rash of ‘cronyism’, how appropriately partisan.

Is that the best you and your hack propagandists can come up with? The man who appoints a horsey judge to run FEMA and our national disaster relief is compared to the president who appointed an ATTORNEY to be ATTORNEY general? Frankly, RFK was intensely qualified compared to that hack Gonzales or the even more Hack predecessor he replaced – Mr. Sings like a Wombat…

Why doesn’t Bush give a shit about his base? Well, first of all he never really did. He and Rove simply saw them as the extra numbers they needed to win elections. As it stood the Republicans had a slim minority, say 45%. The “base”, better known as “the religious right”, gave them the 5-10% they needed to put them over the top. Gotta hand it to ‘em, the plan worked, but it proved that the base was a substantial but relatively small group compared to the moderate Republican 45%, better known here as “the real base”. Recent polls have beamed a light on this 45% as a real entity, they make up the anything over 45% that disapprove of Bush’s handling of things, and in a poll that has a close to 70% disapproval rating, that over 45% number is substantial. So, when Bush disappoints his “base” he is acknowledging his weakened grip on the much larger group, the group that he has taken for granted, the “real base”. Once again it proves that everything this admin does is political as this is a desperate Rovian move to patch the holes in the sinking ship. [...]

  74. purvis ames says:

I can’t understand why anyone is taking this seriously. The far right wing commentators ae simply taking the heat off Bush and making it appear that Miers is too “liberal.” Actually she’s a flat-out fascist and a complete moron to boot.

  75. David says:

    “hard-working wealthy”

HAHA, stop it you’re killing me.

  76. mighty aphrodite says:

David – if you’re not a “civil servant”, have you ever noticed how the owner of a small business is usually the first one at the office in the morning and the last one to leave?? The average clock-watcher is just that – AVERAGE – always knows exactly when to start packing it up so they can get out on time.

  77. Mary Basombrio says:

I have probably forgotten someone that acquired aclose working administrative role but the there was one in particlar who, having lived through the era, that I sure am glad was there. He had the courage ,wisdom ,sensitivity, fairmindedness….a man with an abundance of charisma .You either loved him or hated him.For nearly 40 years I have wondered how his true compassion brought to the table would have changed this nation. There was a war rageing in SE Asia, civil rights were at the forefront, a Texan was president ,,,,I of course speak of the father of Air Americas Ring of Fir co-host Robert F,Kennedy,JR. His father was attorney General Robert F. Kennedy in the the Kennedy Administration and the Republicans wailed about nepotism. Later he occupied the New York Senatorial seat Hillary Rodham CLinton holds today. Of course assassination hit twice ….so we ‘ll never know……..Mary Basombrio

  78. Jon D. Elder says:

The “great uniter” is once again trying to keep our eye off the ball. Who’s concerned about the body count in Iraq right now? Who’s concerned about outing Plame or the indictments and corruption being disclosed at all levels of the GOP? Who’s concerned about the continuing debacle of New Orleans? In the car business, they call this “bait and switch.” Rove is back there orchestrating this entire masterpiece. He’s also covering his own crimes in the process. The American people are once again being pulled off the scent of major political corruption at the highest levels of our evolving Corporate Theocracy government. DON’T BUY THIS CAR! THE COST IS FAR TOO HIGH!

  79. Steven says:

These republicians are sneaky………they are pulling one on the Democrats more than likely. Bush says,
trust me…that alone is sneaky. Code word to the rank. No one is sure and probably will not be until after the confirmation hearings either about Miers. When our
elected officals put someone on the SUPREME COURT, we should be able to know somethings about this person. Man….honestly this is scary. Be careful….be very careful!!!

  80. EJones says:

Anybody wanna speculate on whether Meiers is, um, a lesbian? Think about it.

    RE: #56 by E. L. Doctorow:

“But this president does not know what death is. He hasn’t the mind for it”…”He does not mourn. He doesn’t understand why he should mourn…”

You have described a sociopath which is the category I have always felt our President belongs in. He manifests character traits of a typical sociopath, i.e., one who cannot feel. He’s also disconnected from reality.

  82. Dave Posmontier says:

I have a sneaking suspicion that the so called right wing opposition to Miers is simply a ploy to get the media and the public to believe that she is a moderate. (Sort of like spreading the myth of liberal media bias). One does not work in the Bush white house for 5 years if one has views that are in any way different from Bush and his far right agenda. Miers has called W the most brilliant man she has ever met. Can you imagine someone sitting on the highest court in the land who feels that way? We’re in deep, deep, trouble…

  83. Michael Kling says:

Mier’s is not the shrub’s choice, the nominee after her is!

  84. Caprille says:

Indictments are coming down or the Repugs. when Bush gets his, he wants to be sure he has a friend on the Supreme Court.

  85. AlphaCentauri says:

I suspect he nominated her for the same reason Nixon nominated Ford. He needed someone to get him off the hook in the future when he is indicted for treason.

  86. emjayem says:

Thank you Mighty Aphrodite (#52) for your insightful observations. I was already starting to respond but as I read further I found Ryan Neat’s comments and I couldn’t have said it better than that. Thank you MA for proving the blind stupidity that is backing the current administration.

Of course she is only a plant to put through any agenda that the Shrub wants to enact especially when the court is tipped to overturn any convictions brought against this administration.

Does anyone really pay attention to a past record??? Is there really any surprise what has happened to this country??? Just look at Bush’s record when he was governor of Texas. All that has happened during his two terms is the same sort of looting, cronyism, corporate theft and destroying of the economy as well as the environment. The same thing he did to Texas he is doing to this country on a national scale.

At least we do now have a three party system. It is past time for the Republicans to wake up and team up with the Democrats to rid us of this fascist regime before it is too late.

Maybe the Christian base will also wake up and see that he has just used them to bring him over the top votewise and he could not care less about their Christian ideals, since he has none himself.

  87. Deanise Campbell says:

This can’t be for real. It’s all part of a bet. You see, one day Bush, Cheney et al were sitting around thowing back brewskis when someone made this outrageous bet that, since they get away with EVERYTHING else they set out to do, they could actually nominate someone like Miers for a Supreme Court position. Many names were proposed, including Ted Nugent, but they thought they should stick to someone who had at least seen the inside of a courtroom as more than just a court reporter, though one of the bolder drunks did propose a court reporter who had ‘a great set of gams’. Miers’ name came up as someone to whom they owed a favor. Really, they will be suprised as anyone if she actually gets in. If that happens, look for the names of certain cartoon characters to come up. Wile E. Coyote was mentioned because they wanted to see how far they could get with that name, never mind that he is a fictional character. At this point, expect anything.

  88. Bonita K Roper says:

Is there a way to remove the whole cabinet at once? And execute a three month withdrawel from Iraq. Begin investigations into criminal acts. Appoint an interim government until 2008 with more power for people. We know the right way to do things like cleaning up New Orleans. If this group remains I only feel “Woe to America and Americans’.

  89. Rebecca says:

WE need the balls of the hippies in the 60’s and the guts of the American Soldiers stuck in Iraq to take this administration down. They have made me ashamed of being an American for the first time in my life. Finally it seems that as American’s we are all opening our eyes and our mouth’s and we should not stop! The criminality of the Bush,Cheney,Rove,Delay club is absolutely unreal. Is there anyone who disagrees that we are in deep trouble as well? We may have well been bombed as a country by this administration. We are all broke, except for the precious few who are in the club. We are at the mercy of one lie after another, one backdoor tactic after another. We are being destroyed day by day by each choice and action this administration takes. I am signing petitions like crazy, sending letters by the dozens every day to every constiuant I can find. Have the Congress and the Senate lost their minds? How much longer and how much more destruction are WE THE PEOPLE going to be subjected to before something is done to end this criminal abuse of power? It is no wonder Bush wants Delay and Meirs on the Supreme Court. I look forward and pray for the day when I see the GW Cheney Corporation and all their cohorts are in handcuffs and get what they deserve and are prevented from stealing away the principals, morals and respectability they have taken away. Please everyone call, email, write and scream at all you can before it really is too late to get America back to the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
