WE need the balls of the hippies in the 60's and the guts of the American Soldiers stuck in Iraq to take this administration down. They have made me ashamed of being an American for the first time in my life. Finally it seems that as American's we are all opening our eyes and our mouth's and we should not stop! The criminality of the Bush,Cheney,Rove,Delay club is absolutely unreal. Is there anyone who disagrees that we are in deep trouble as well? We may have well been bombed as a country by this administration. We are all broke, except for the precious few who are in the club. We are at the mercy of one lie after another, one backdoor tactic after another. We are being destroyed day by day by each choice and action this administration takes. I am signing petitions like crazy, sending letters by the dozens every day to every constiuant I can find. Have the Congress and the Senate lost their minds? How much longer and how much more destruction are WE THE PEOPLE going to be subjected to before something is done to end this criminal abuse of power? It is no wonder Bush wants Delay and Meirs on the Supreme Court. I look forward and pray for the day when I see the GW Cheney Corporation and all their cohorts are in handcuffs and get what they deserve and are prevented from stealing away the principals, morals and respectability they have taken away. Please everyone call, email, write and scream at all you can before it really is too late to get America back to the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Is there a way to remove the whole cabinet at once? And execute a three month withdrawel from Iraq. Begin investigations into criminal acts. Appoint an interim government until 2008 with more power for people. We know the right way to do things like cleaning up New Orleans. If this group remains I only feel "Woe to America and Americans'.

This can't be for real. It's all part of a bet. You see, one day Bush, Cheney et al were sitting around thowing back brewskis when someone made this outrageous bet that, since they get away with EVERYTHING else they set out to do, they could actually nominate someone like Miers for a Supreme Court position. Many names were proposed, including Ted Nugent, but they thought they should stick to someone who had at least seen the inside of a courtroom as more than just a court reporter, though one of the bolder drunks did propose a court reporter who had 'a great set of gams'. Miers' name came up as someone to whom they owed a favor. Really, they will be suprised as anyone if she actually gets in. If that happens, look for the names of certain cartoon characters to come up. Wile E. Coyote was mentioned because they wanted to see how far they could get with that name, never mind that he is a fictional character. At this point, expect anything.

Thank you Mighty Aphrodite (#52) for your insightful observations. I was already starting to respond but as I read further I found Ryan Neat's comments and I couldn't have said it better than that. Thank you MA for proving the blind stupidity that is backing the current administration.

Of course she is only a plant to put through any agenda that the Shrub wants to enact especially when the court is tipped to overturn any convictions brought against this administration.

Does anyone really pay attention to a past record??? Is there really any surprise what has happened to this country??? Just look at Bush's record when he was governor of Texas. All that has happened during his two terms is the same sort of looting, cronyism, corporate theft and destroying of the economy as well as the environment. The same thing he did to Texas he is doing to this country on a national scale.

At least we do now have a three party system. It is past time for the Republicans to wake up and team up with the Democrats to rid us of this fascist regime before it is too late.

Maybe the Christian base will also wake up and see that he has just used them to bring him over the top votewise and he could not care less about their Christian ideals, since he has none himself.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the so called right wing opposition to Miers is simply a ploy to get the media and the public to believe that she is a moderate. (Sort of like spreading the myth of liberal media bias). One does not work in the Bush white house for 5 years if one has views that are in any way different from Bush and his far right agenda. Miers has called W the most brilliant man she has ever met. Can you imagine someone sitting on the highest court in the land who feels that way? We're in deep, deep, trouble...

RE: #56 by E. L. Doctorow:

“But this president does not know what death is. He hasn’t the mind for it"..."He does not mourn. He doesn’t understand why he should mourn..."

You have described a sociopath which is the category I have always felt our President belongs in. He manifests character traits of a typical sociopath, i.e., one who cannot feel. He's also disconnected from reality.

These republicians are sneaky.........they are pulling one on the Democrats more than likely. Bush says,
trust me...that alone is sneaky. Code word to the rank. No one is sure and probably will not be until after the confirmation hearings either about Miers. When our
elected officals put someone on the SUPREME COURT, we should be able to know somethings about this person. Man....honestly this is scary. Be careful....be very careful!!!

The "great uniter" is once again trying to keep our eye off the ball. Who's concerned about the body count in Iraq right now? Who's concerned about outing Plame or the indictments and corruption being disclosed at all levels of the GOP? Who's concerned about the continuing debacle of New Orleans? In the car business, they call this "bait and switch." Rove is back there orchestrating this entire masterpiece. He's also covering his own crimes in the process. The American people are once again being pulled off the scent of major political corruption at the highest levels of our evolving Corporate Theocracy government. DON'T BUY THIS CAR! THE COST IS FAR TOO HIGH!

I have probably forgotten someone that acquired aclose working administrative role but the there was one in particlar who, having lived through the era, that I sure am glad was there. He had the courage ,wisdom ,sensitivity, fairmindedness....a man with an abundance of charisma .You either loved him or hated him.For nearly 40 years I have wondered how his true compassion brought to the table would have changed this nation. There was a war rageing in SE Asia, civil rights were at the forefront, a Texan was president ,,,,I of course speak of the father of Air Americas Ring of Fir co-host Robert F,Kennedy,JR. His father was attorney General Robert F. Kennedy in the the Kennedy Administration and the Republicans wailed about nepotism. Later he occupied the New York Senatorial seat Hillary Rodham CLinton holds today. Of course assassination hit twice ....so we 'll never know........Mary Basombrio

David - if you're not a "civil servant", have you ever noticed how the owner of a small business is usually the first one at the office in the morning and the last one to leave?? The average clock-watcher is just that - AVERAGE - always knows exactly when to start packing it up so they can get out on time.

I can't understand why anyone is taking this seriously. The far right wing commentators ae simply taking the heat off Bush and making it appear that Miers is too "liberal." Actually she's a flat-out fascist and a complete moron to boot.

[...] Where’s the battle? Bush has made his Supreme Court nomination andThe Right-Wing Peanut Gallery is hitting Miers Hard while Bush had Senate Democratic Leadership approval of Miers So, why is it that Bush has seemingly chose not to fight this Ali/Frazier magnitude battle that his most rabid followers have been promised from the moment his campaign started in ‘99? Why doesn’t Bush give a shit about his base? Well, first of all he never really did. He and Rove simply saw them as the extra numbers they needed to win elections. As it stood the Republicans had a slim minority, say 45%. The “base”, better known as “the religious right”, gave them the 5-10% they needed to put them over the top. Gotta hand it to ‘em, the plan worked, but it proved that the base was a substantial but relatively small group compared to the moderate Republican 45%, better known here as “the real base”. Recent polls have beamed a light on this 45% as a real entity, they make up the anything over 45% that disapprove of Bush’s handling of things, and in a poll that has a close to 70% disapproval rating, that over 45% number is substantial. So, when Bush disappoints his “base” he is acknowledging his weakened grip on the much larger group, the group that he has taken for granted, the “real base”. Once again it proves that everything this admin does is political as this is a desperate Rovian move to patch the holes in the sinking ship. [...]
