More trouble for DeLay.

“Tom DeLay deliberately raised more money than he needed to throw parties at the 2000 presidential convention, then diverted some of the excess to longtime ally Roy Blunt through a series of donations…When the financial carousel stopped, DeLay’s private charity, the consulting firm that employed DeLay’s wife and the Missouri campaign of Blunt’s son all ended up with money,” the AP reports.

    Lord Acton was right.

    Corruption within corruption.
It is a way of life.

  3. Punchy says:

new day, new indictment. also just as surprising, the sun rose in the east and set in the west.

and this chucklehead thought he was going to have the charges dropped and walk out a free man…arrogance is a bitch.

  4. Sara says:

Sounds like Blunt should take a proactive hike as well…
    Isn’t this FUN?

  5. Mr. Evil says:

I’ll keep this simple so the righties can comprehend it: Corrupt, Criminal Scum. That’s all these people are. All they care about is money, power and more money.

  6. afterthought says:

    Mr Evil,

Won’t the righties think that is all good?

  7. Marie says:

Mr. Evil, I think the Righties’ motto is
“I got mine – go get your own, sucker!”

  8. Pablo in Mexico says:

In addition to this DeLay has deposited into his personal bank account hundreds of thousands of dollars that he was supposedly gathering for campaign purposes.

In other words he was personally skimming from his own campaign.

Dont believe it, have someone check out his bank accounts for the past 10 years.

  9. Jon says:

Coverage of the Delay-Blunt deal and a host of other key articles, documents and timelines can be found in the Tom Delay Scandal Resource Center.

  10. Susan says:

The very idea that DeLay and Blunt are supportive of sweat shops deserves a life sentence.

  11. robert pooolemos says:

hey…..has anyone taken a real close look at harriet meirs? she sorta looks like a cadaver? I mean, seriously folks, this is a very sick woman. Not long for this world. It certainly does look terminal.

  12. MagnumDB says:

Wow! All these news stories are going to cost Think Progress. I mean with all these stories to report, you’re going to have to buy a lot more space on the web to save it all!

And now will B.O. doing reports on blogs, you’ll have to pay for the increased amount of visitors coming to the site and using up the bandwidth.

But I’m sure you don’t mind.

  13. ohdave says:

My GOD! Who could have imagined how far and wide the GOP corruption extends.

    It goes on and on.

  14. SpudgeBoy says:

In a bad sort of way I feel really good about all of these indictments and charges, but on the other hand I feel really bad for all of the people that have been screwed by these bastards.

    Keep the indictments coming.

  15. Patriot says:

Neocons are alot of things. But they’ll never be smarter than liberals. Whether these antics are illegal or not it shows how out of touch these guys are when they throw around money like this. It’s very short-sighted.
Even a mid to upper class working man is offended by this behavior.

  16. thot's says:

I hope it snags karl rover

  17. Patriot says:

There seem to be Plame indictment rumors flyin’….a bunch of ‘em….indictments that is…

  18. Marie says:

    #18 Patriot,
I read about those rumors too. Twenty-two if the rumors are to be believed. Coming down very soon.
    Off topic:
A spy was found to have operated within the White House for three years. He worked for Gore, sometime in 2000 and worked for Cheney and Rice for a couple of years. He left the White House and was arrested by the FBI.

  19. Patriot says:

If you have ever driven through Missouri you’ve seen billboard after billboard of anti-choice and anti-pornography propaganda. They’re everywhere. And when you couple it with the Branson “home-style” caucasion entertainment scene and the pro-tobacco lobby headed by Blunt’s kin you truly get a sense that this state is F*CKED UP.
I’ve pulled into fast food joints in lilly white towns in Missouri and been served by teenagers with cigarette burns up and down their arms. Missouri is an armpit of paradox and filth. THAT’S where the money is going. And that’s the backup in the House???????

  20. Chewbacca says:

I’m from Missouri and Baby Blunt is the most corrupt Governor we have ever had. If you want some pork, you hire his brother Andy as your lobbyist. Matt Blunt does whatever big business and K Street directs. Like father, like son.

  21. progressive and proud says:

Let’s see how long it will take the trolls to post a talking point. They are scrambling furiously I’m sure. It all comes rushing out at once. This is utterly insane that we have this level of corruption spread so far and wide through our country.

THIS is as unpatriotic as one could ever imagine. And the trolls say we hate America. I don’t steal from others.

  22. Mary Poppin says:

Who are the Republican putting in as majority leader?

  23. progressive and proud says:

Blunt muscled is nasty way in. But there is squabbling amongst them and they are imploding. Ain’t it great to see them exposed? Because the dems have been sitting back and not giving them any fodder, they are cannibalizing each other.

    Lot’s of pork for all!!

  24. Mary Poppin says:

    Isn’t Blunt Governor of Missouri?

  25. progressive and proud says:

Tom DeLay deliberately raised more money than he needed to throw parties at the 2000 presidential convention, then diverted some of the excess to longtime ally Roy Blunt through a series of donations that benefited both men’s causes.

Blunt last week temporarily replaced DeLay as House majority leader, and Blunt’s son, Matt, has now risen to Missouri’s governor.

    This was from AP.
