TWO FOR JOSE PADILLA

Only in America

November 23, 2005

The wheels of justice grind slowly but grind they do in spite of the Bush administration’s never ceasing obstruction to an American’s civil rights and to the nation’s jurisprudence. In “Terror suspect Padilla charged” by Eric Lichtblau, Jose Padilla, President Bush’s desperately needed “enemy combatant” is finally going to get his day in court as any American citizen who had been held in custody for over three years without a charge. The initial “charge” for Padilla detainment was to detonate a radioactive bomb in America. Now that his court date is looming ahead the Justice Department isn’t going to enter the “dirty bomb” accusation against Padilla; the Justice Department is already flying on one wing since that accusation was the initial and sole reason for detaining Padilla without due process all these years. Of course, new charges are to be brought forth for the coming trial, charges brought about through interrogation. Can you say “torture?” All this has the shades of John Walker Lindh. Lindh was interrogated and then charged with conspiring along with Osama bin Laden in bringing down the Twin Towers. But after plead bargaining, Lindh was found guilty of just carrying a gun. I see a more weaker government’s position and resolution against Jose Padilla.

Welcome home, Joseph Stalin

November 28, 2005

American jurisprudence drops dead in “Administration calls all the shots on detainee cases” by Adam Liptak marks a incoming watershed that individual duo process in this country is evaporating fast into oblivion. Really quick and dirty: Jose Padilla and his defense team are quite aware they’re hopping in a kangaroo court as oppose to a court of law. Aside from the ponderousness of the article, comments such as Eric Freedman, Hofstra Law University, stated that the executive branch (meaning President Bush) can “be judge, jury and executioner,” with any American citizen. But what’s most shocking is that if Padilla does get acquitted from what “charges” are level at him, the president reserve the right to detain Padilla again, just-like-that. Instead of reason we get such idiotic drivel like that of Tasia Scolinos, a Justice Dept. spokeswoman, spouting “the important thing is for someone not to come away thinking this whole process is arbitrary, which it is not.” Come again? The whole process is as arbitrary as Joseph Stalin.

I find it amusing that you Democrats try to take the moral high ground at the first sign of trouble. You party was responsible for letting these terrorists go unchecked for nearly a decade. Let's see - there was the first world trade center attack, The Khobar Towers, the embassy bombings, the bombing of the Cole. Nice idea chasing these guys around with paper. If Clinton had a backbone 9/11 probably wouldnt have happened. The only bone he was worried about was busy making deposits on a blue dress in the oral office. Morality? You guys have thrown darts at this president since day one and none have stuck. Good luck to you!

Bush is Biggest Spender since LBJ-

Republicans use a Democrat.

Why not true culprit. Reagan.

SWINNEY FACT CHECK

LBJ
1968 Expenditures-178 Billion (rounded)
1963------------------111 Billion

60% Increase

REAGAN
1988 Expenditures—1,063 Billion
1980 ---------------------590 Billion

80% Increase

In order for Bush to exceed either this would need to take place

+ 60% --Expenditures2860 Billion (possible)
+ 80% ---Expenditures 3218 Billion (highly unlikely)

Darn it Smedley, you guys picked the same day as us. We thought Nov.10th would be the day where we would show our support for the War effort. We plan on showing this support by making sure we all makes it to work that day, even if we are a little ill. No car pooling either, we’ll all be driving individual vehicles wherever possible. Oh yeah, and we will just keep doing this every day too, until you guys start to pay attention and listen to reason.

War Protest - Nov 10 2005 Take a day off! – Please Read

If you feel, as the majority of Americans and people throughout the world do, that the war in Iraq is wrong, and you wish you had a way to show the Bush Administration, the Government of the United States, and the world, how you feel about it, then join us in our world wide walk out on November 10th 2005.

Show the world how you feel, and just how many of us feel this way. Let’s drive the point home by taking away from them their most precious item; money.

On November 10th 2005, unless you hold a position which people rely upon in the event of an emergency (you work at a hospital, a firemen, policemen etc), don’t go to work. Try not to drive your car; don’t watch T.V.; don’t use the internet. Stay at home. Read a book. Play with your kids. Engage in a hobby.

Plan a vacation day at work. Call in sick. Use your best judgment on how to take this day off.

If we don’t get their attention this way, we’ll just do it again, until we do.

If the people speak, and speak together, they have to listen.

Please email this to as many of your friends and colleagues as you wish/can.

I agree with Sharon (post# 38) everything he described hit me as him describing...himself and the administration.
As for Jose Padilla...a thought...After the Oklahoma bombing I recall a third "unknown" bombing suspect that seemed to get away...black hair, dark complexion...Middle Eastern (or Mexican) Could it be that old Jose is that third suspect, who filled with fear of being murdered went into hiding until the Government finally caught have effectivly silenced him before he could tell the truth????

From Associated Press:

"The White House said the other seven attacks included plans to:

• Bomb several sites in Britain in mid-2004.

• Attack Westerners at several places in Karachi, Pakistan, in spring 2003.

• Attack Heathrow Airport using hijacked commercial airliners in 2003.

• Carry out a large-scale bombing in Britain in spring 2004.

• Attack ships in the Arabian Gulf in late 2002/2003.

• Attack ships in the Straits of Hormuz, a narrow part of the Persian Gulf where it opens into the Arabian Sea, in 2002.

• Attack a tourist site outside the United States in 2003."

Even if said attacks were successfully stopped, this is NOT how you account the government for accomplishing the task of securing the country. A great start would actually to have the population express their feelings on how the nation is now safer than then.

okay, the giggling killers said that they foiled 10 terror plots, okay...so why are they classified? That tells you right there that THEY DIDN'T FOIL ANY PLOTS! If they knew about 9/11, they didn't foil that, even though they were knew a month before it happen...so that tells me that these people are using fear to keep people scared...well people that don't use their brain unlike you and the other's on this board...if you read 1984 (like I did) it had three sayings: Ignorance is Strength. Freedom is Slavery. War is Peace. Think about it for a sec: War is Peace: the War on Terror as put it by Dubya 'a endless war, we have to keep the fight to the enemy.' Ignorance is Strength: The conservative media, lncluding Fox News, CNN, and everyone else out there, they all have the White House spin except for sites and magazines like The Nation, Buzzflash, Air America Radio (which I love), take Back the Media, and the list goes on...Now the last, Freedom Is Slavery: the Patriot Act (or as I like to call it The Facist Act because there is nothing Patriotic about it) strips our rights away...think about it.

As someone living in and loving New York City, I can say that the sense here is that the Bush Admininstration consistently either 1) doesn't have a clue about anything happening anywhere, or 2) doesn't care about New York because it is a progressive city very proud of being self reliant in the face of conservative disdain for us.

The city very likely has better coordinated intelligence and public safety operations than anything any of those cowboys could ever dream up while clearing brush in Crawford.

I think there was credible information which lead to yesterday's press conference by our mayor, the FBI, and NYPD. Hopefully it wasn't just some diversion planted by a chubby, baby faced friend of W's with too much clearance.

If our city has succeeded in thwarting a terrorist attack, the credit goes to New York City... in spite of W's mismanaged administration.

He gets credit only for attaining the presidency... not earning it, not performing required tasks, and certainly not making America safer.

Ten "al qaeda plots" that have been foiled?

1. Jose Padilla
2. Iyam Faris

3. London tube bombings - Not the Bush administration who "foiled" it, but hey, they did say "and partners"...
4. Portland Seven - Not technically an "al qaeda plot" as these were muslims who attempted to travel to Afghanistan to fight against the US, but they're probably counting it, and this was partly inside the US, so it might be the third..
5. Lodi "Terrorist Cell" - Anyone know much about this one? Is this the third one inside the US?

Anyone want to guess at what the other five are, remember they are outside the US... They may be classified because they consisted of assassinations of people the Bush administration disapproved of or similar activities. Any other suggestions?

The problem with the number "10" is that there is nothing to compare with to. The governement uncovers things all the time. Is "10" better or worse than previous administrations? Who can tell. The entire topic is meaningless without historical data to compare.

Bush is caught up in the "Fog of War" syndrome. LBJ and McNamara kept telling the American people that the war in Viet Nam was going well, but in fact we were losing. Bush is caught up in a "Cloud of Confusion". Remember, "Mission Accomplished", and WMD. This Nation is in serious trouble in many different ways. A neurotic believes that 2+2=5. A psychotic knows that 2+2=4, but he's damn mad about it. How do you classify Bush and his supporters?

We'd all be a lot better off if the Administration would just start hiring actors to play terrorists, "arrest" them, issue a press release and some TV footage and hire a couple of Hollywood writers to make up some crazy plots (a cesium bomb in a float at the Super Bowl halftime show? grinding up Christian children to make pita bread?), and then let it drop and move on to next week's episode.

At least that way all these poor dumb losers from Lackawanna and Lodi wouldn't have to go to jail.

I haveto believe that Bush included the locally famous Lodi, California terrorist cell in one of the plots broken up since 2001. This incident made the San Francisco, Sacramento, and of course the local Stockton and Lodi papers last spring. Last month two Muslim clerics were deported to Pakistan for overstaying their religious visas and to the best of my knowledge the father and son also implicated are still in custody. I do not think bail was offered as an option since they were deemed flight risks in spite of the fact that both were American citizens with additional family members in Lodi.

My guess is that this incident will eventual prove to be more smoke and mirrors. i mean its been almost 5 months and the whole matter has more or less slipped from even the local news.

You know God speaks to me from time to time and he even stops by my place for a visit now and then.

Hell, just last night he came by and we sat and bullshitted each other over an immaculate amount of beer and cigarettes. He said he’d been on the other side of the universe for a few years checking on a few planets that had gotten it right and were progressing beautifully.

I asked him about his boy, George Bush, and he said that by all means George wasn’t his boy. Huh? He said that damn Satan has always taken advantage of when he leaves for a while to go check out his other worlds and this time was no different. He also added I’m just biding my time for when the time is right I’ll let the world know that George Bush is not a man of Me. He is the spawn of Satan. (Handing God another beer) So, God, when, pray tell, will this happen? And God said, real soon my friend! Real soon. You know all his friends that are being indicted and investigated now? I said sure! Well a few of them are going to start singing like my beautiful canaries. And it will be a lovely song! Now hand me another beer or I’ll make you change your nickname! Sure God, Sure! No problem
