This morning, the White House dispatched Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht to defend Harriet Miers’ nomination to the Supreme Court. On CBS’ “Early Show” Hecht showered Miers with praise:
STORM: In your mind, is she the most qualified person for the job?
HECHT: I think so. And I think what people are overlooking at this point — and will come out as the process winds its way along — is the tremendous record that she’s had of true accomplishment…
Hecht isn’t exactly the most objective judge of Miers’ qualifications. The AP reports, “Over the years, Miers has dated Nathan Hecht, a justice on the Texas Supreme Court who has known her since the 1970s.”
"She always remembers everybody's birthday,"
October 6th, 2005 at 9:58 amTo be fair, I haven't seen anywhere if they are still "dating". Either way the guy is hardly objective!
October 6th, 2005 at 10:09 amThere you go! The unbiased endorsement will surely pave the way for her!
October 6th, 2005 at 10:10 amNitPick: It's not really breaking news, NPR was talking about this on Monday.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:11 am(I think Judd's being a little bit jumpy, to publish such a non-story. I imagine he, like me, is itching for Fitzgerald news.)
October 6th, 2005 at 10:13 amIt was supposed to be an ironic title.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:13 amSince the irony seems to have failed I've taken out the "breaking" from the title.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:15 amBush is actually admitting that he's upset with being asked to leave Muslim lands. I have never heard that before from these guys.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:15 amHarriet has a boyfriend? Huh? I keep hearing she's a lesbian. Maybe this is like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? Can we expect Missy Harriet to make an appearance on Oprah leaping all over the furniture as she proclaims her love for what's his name?
October 6th, 2005 at 10:19 amSome other site I read earlier this week said they were ex's, he had moved on to some other bush43 wingnut floozie. So, what's the point?
We could take her down cause right now the republican fringe is up in arms over her. No doubt she'll vote to axe Roe/Wade and any host of progressive ledgislation that has made it way to laws over the last couple of decades. So maybe we should.
But let's not kid ourselves. No one bush43 nominates is going to be any less conservative. This administration doesn't nominate moderates, EVER. So, if we choose to go after her, and I think we should, we should prepare ourselves for borking many, cause it'll take a few to get to anyone who is remotely Sandra O'Conner like.
Think about it.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:20 amNo oil. No terror.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:22 amI think Meirs is a very closet lesbian... She has him for a beard sans Front .Lots of people do that for protection........
October 6th, 2005 at 10:31 amI got up this morning and saw on TV that the shrub was going to make am interesting and revealing speech about Iraq and Al-Qaeda.I decided to watch to see what he had to say this time.
When the shrub walked into where he was going to give the speech, I immediately turned off the TV because it was quite evident to me that it was another "packaged" speech in front of a bunch of mindless followers.
October 6th, 2005 at 10:37 amYour right Pablo, That's what it was a dictator coach trying to rally the teams support. BS,BS,BS, Trust me here, yah right......More intense, more of the same.....Blessings

October 6th, 2005 at 11:03 amDartanyon, don't be inflammatory. Yeesh.
Good read: GOP Showdown: Gods v. Geeks
October 6th, 2005 at 11:09 amIs this Rock Hudson and Doris Day in "pillow Talk '05?"
October 6th, 2005 at 11:13 amLesly,
Too bad you don't know the difference between inflamatory and humorous -- a common problem with overly "PC" folks.
October 6th, 2005 at 11:14 amAll these new right wing Christian conservative judges on the bench, WOW! It's a quagmire I tell ya! HA!
Now, if only Ruth "Buzzy" Ginsberg would just retire or...something.
October 6th, 2005 at 11:24 amSome other site I read earlier this week said they were ex’s, he had moved on to some other bush43 wingnut floozie. So, what’s the point?

The point is, you go with what you've got. I wish you'd people would come up with something though because I don't want to see this old broad on the bench. I'm holding out for a white male Christonazi without the slightest shred of compassion for homosexual predators or feminists baby killers. I'm afraid this woman has way too many warm fuzzies for the losers of this country. Typical woman.
October 6th, 2005 at 11:29 amDartanyon, do you mean satirical? Either way, your post fails to impress either motivation on me, sounding more like a pointless rant.
I guess you're right. ::eyeroll::
October 6th, 2005 at 11:29 amHm. Maybe it's IRI's turn to be satirical. =)
October 6th, 2005 at 11:31 amYou know, I asked my sons a question, and it was this: Do you think I'm the most qualified person in the land for the seat on the Supreme Court vacated by Sandra Day O'Connor? And my sons, because they are my sons, said this: Of course, Ma, you are the most qualified in the land, even more than Harriet Miers. I emailed the White House immediately. You should be hearing about me in the next few days! SCOTUS here I come!
October 6th, 2005 at 11:31 am[...] Thanks, ThinkProgress! [...]

They must have been pretty mean then. The admins let me get away with everything but murder here. I think they did edit out the one comment of mine where I called Miers "a braindead life support system for a vagina" but I'm not really sure. It could be I just don't remember where I put it.
All in all my experience here has been positive and uplifting. Mostly I just lift up the ladies skirts though. I discovered Leftist women don't like that as much as I thought they would. HA!
October 6th, 2005 at 11:37 amThat leather-face has a boyfriend?
October 6th, 2005 at 11:44 amI thought it was a guy.
Stands to reason I guess, I've heard junior's gay.
"Dartanyon, do you mean satirical? Either way, your post fails to impress either motivation on me." Lesly
Thank goodness! Proof I'm doing something right then!
October 6th, 2005 at 12:56 pm"I’ve heard junior’s gay."
So has most of Washington (cover your eyes Lesly.)
He and M4M Military Stud for Hire, AKA, Jeff Gannon, spend lots of time together at the Crawford, TX pig farm while Pickles is in New York shopping and spending her hard earned Bush empire cash.
Well, with John Roberts (rumored to be gay) and not Harriet Miers (definitely lesbian) either on the SCOTUS or headed for the SCOTUS, I wonder if the Monday after the last Sunday in June will be declared an official SCOTUS 3 day holiday???
October 6th, 2005 at 1:00 pmPerhaps its not surprising that Ann Coulter has also come against Miers. What's shocking in her latest diatribe, however, is her sentiment that Bush has no right to say "trust me", and that he wasn't reelected to be 'dictator for eight years'! Yikes - next thing ya know Rush will start telling the truth, Bill O'Reilly will admit everything Media Matters says about him is true, and Sean Hannity will admit he is indeed a friggin' idiot.

October 6th, 2005 at 2:00 pmI wouldn't call having lunch with a colleague for number of years "dating". It is widely reported that the relationship was platonic.
October 6th, 2005 at 2:32 pmI haven't seen any reports of Roberts have a serious relationship with anyone.
But, she thinks Bush is the smartest guy she has ever met. That speaks volumes.

Harriet Miers: Pit Bull or Poodle?
By Steve Chapman
With Alan Greenspan due to step down in January as chairman of the Federal Reserve, there is a lot of speculation about who will replace him. Big-name candidates abound, but I'm betting on the accountant who does President Bush's taxes.
I think Chapman is on the right track.
October 6th, 2005 at 2:36 pmYou can also call it what it is "shacking up" for years. She may not say that because of her religion, but be honest, "It's shacking up." Holy Cow!!!!
A conservative doing such a thing out of wedlock!!!!
Are you sure they have not co-habitated for a period of time?
October 6th, 2005 at 2:36 pmDartanyon, of course you know by now that the Republicans/conservatives are humorless. They cannot detect irony, or sarcasm or satire. They usually are dead serious and take no prisoners.
October 6th, 2005 at 3:17 pmMarie,
LOL!! So true! Poor Lesly must be pulling his/her hair out these days:
DeLay - indicted on conspiracy and money laundering
Safavian - indicted on 5 felony counts
Rove???
Libby???
Bolton???
Cheney???
Bush???
And everything looked so swell for the cult of George last November. What happened? :-) :-) :-)
October 6th, 2005 at 3:50 pmWow, accused of being conservative 'cause I just don't give a shit if Miers does indeed prance around her living room with fish in her face or Roberts plays hide the salami or find it pertinent to their jobs.
Are you guys certain you support gay rights or are more interested in a Rovian “take no prisoners†outlook, even if it means belittling the same demographic you presumably stand up for when it suits you? /blink
October 6th, 2005 at 4:00 pmOk, then why doesn't he marry her?
October 6th, 2005 at 9:49 pmI don't think that they have 'dated' matters as a job qualification. Neither of them has disputed the media use of the statement that they dated, and no one here knows any more than what we have heard or read, therefore we should accept that they 'dated'. The problem is that they would both be on the Supreme Court, and judgement of either or both could be skewed because of latent affection, or because of anger and resentment (depending on where their 'dating' situation is). The biggest problem with the woman is that she is not a judge (not that I've heard). That should be enough. She is not qualified. Democrats should fight to block her (most republicans will fall in line with The Party, like good little party lackeys), and given the inability of this administration to concede on anything at all, they should block any and all nominations who even smell of non-moderate right wing agenda or mindless lackey/crony status (and she reeks of both).
October 7th, 2005 at 3:45 pmWOW - I would think if Miers is "shacking up" or a lesbian YOU guys would be thrilled with her!! But I also thought you would be happy with a well-educated black woman as Secretary of State - oh, I forgot for a moment that you only like "minority" people who agree with you.
October 8th, 2005 at 6:22 pmIt's not just that Miers never married, was a high-school tennis champ, majored in math, and likes to clear brush. It's really her relationshop with Hecht that made me think she's a lesbian. Hecht is also about 60, never married--and he plays the organ in church. Church organists are like hairdressers and male ballet dancers in America--a few are straight (my husband is one of those heterosexual exceptions). Hecht and Miers appear together at official functions. It sure looks to me as if they're both gay. And as a liberal and a bisexual, I certainly don't think that has anything to do with her qualifications. It's the secrecy that bothers me.
