A new report from Newsweek:
[L]awyers close to the case, who asked not to be identified because it’s ongoing, say [special prosecutor Patrick] Fitzgerald appears to be focusing in part on discrepancies in testimony between Rove and Time reporter Matt Cooper about their conversation of July 11, 2003. In Cooper’s account, Rove told him the wife of White House critic Joseph Wilson worked at the “agency” on WMD issues and was responsible for sending Wilson on a trip to Niger to check out claims that Iraq was trying to buy uranium. But Rove did not disclose this conversation to the FBI when he was first interviewed by agents in the fall of 2003—nor did he mention it during his first grand jury appearance…
After Fitzgerald discovered an email from Rove to Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley discussing Rove’s conversation with Cooper, Rove returned to the grand jury. But his account of the conversation differed substantially from Cooper:
[Rove] testified that the talk was initially about “welfare reform”—a topic mentioned in the e-mail—and that Cooper then changed the subject. Cooper has written that he doesn’t recall a discussion of welfare reform.
Yesterday, lawyers in the case told the New York Times that special Fitzgerald “might consider false statement, perjury or obstruction of justice charges…if he could show that anyone intentionally misled investigators or prosecutors.â€
Yes, perjury under oath and in front of a grand jury is a crime in my book. Unfortunately, you’d be a hypocrite for arguing that Rove should go to jail (or receive any kind of punishment for that matter, including removal from his current position in the White House).

Who is the “you” you are referring to? And specifically in which way(s) would this “you” individual to whom you refer, a hypocrite?
October 9th, 2005 at 9:50 amWho is the “you” to whom you refer? And could you please be more specfic in describing the facts that create the hypocrisy?
October 9th, 2005 at 9:52 amRove’s 4th Grand Jury Appearance to Focus on “Discrepancies in Testimonyâ€
Interesting stuff here. As we all know in heart of hearts if we are honest with ourselves, all Republicans are natural born liars. The more evil the Republican the bigger the liar they are. One has to wonder if Rove…
October 9th, 2005 at 10:03 amWasn’t the entire Clinton impeachment process premised, in legal terms, on “perjury in front of a grand jury”? Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:08 amI think that what St Wendeler is saying that the criminals in the Bush administration deserve a free pass because, heck, LOTS of people are felons.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:34 amAnybody remember:

It is about time for the turd blossom to come into a winter full bloom. Maybe shrub will pick the petals, dry them, roll them and bogart that joint my friend…
October 9th, 2005 at 11:16 amThe difference between Rove’s lying under oath and Clinton’s lying under oath is the catalyst, the former being a non-crime (getting a b-job, albeit in the Oval Office), and the latter being a conspiracy of disinformation resulting in the real and serious crime of outing a CIA agent. Beyond that, yes, it is mildly hypocritical, I suppose, to dismiss the everyday shame of lying about sex and not to dismiss lying about something much more serious. It’s a question of pragmatism! In other words, “get real”.

Graves fill with
Indispensible men
Lying to a Grand Jury investigating a Treason case is a grave crime and Rove is not above the Law. He will pay the price. If not, the consequences would be catastrophic. In our “top down” society, if chaos breaks out at the top (as would be with the White House’s total disregard of the law) the trickle down effect to the masses would be a message of abandonment. This would be too dangerous for the ruling class, it simply won’t happen. So all those who have been pressing so long to bring the criminals in the White House to task, lift your head today and look at the finish line at the tip of your nose. ROVE GOES TO JAIL!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:21 pmI need your help, very badly.
I’m trying to get this war protest off the ground. I’m posting it as often as I can and as much as I can through CraigsList and email. But there is only so much I can do by myself…
If you would like to protest the war, by simply taking the day off of work on November 10th 2005, then please take my post off of this site that starts with “War Protest†and post it in as many places as you can. CraigsList, blogs, email, everywhere. Just take 10 minutes to help me get the ball rolling, and then take the 10th of November off. That’s all it would take. Anymore help beyond that which you think would be helpful, is greatly appreciated as well.
I can’t do it without your help.
Please.
Thanks
October 9th, 2005 at 12:27 pmI agree Rove need to go to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200 as in the monopoly game.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:31 pmNot a word about this on the ‘news’ informercials for Bush. The talk shows focused on Miers, – with a total of five seconds of mention about Delay, Frist, Abramoff, or Rove. Duh.
That’s why people MUST begin to promote sites that offer free access to REAL news and views from a multitude of legitimate sources. I’m not talking about the bloggers, who offer an invaluable source of breaking news and insight into specific matters. I’m talking about the many alternative news sites that link to the important, under-reported or ignored stories from around the nation and the world that most Americans never get: Buzzflash, Bushnews, AmericanPolitics, and others.

War Protest – Nov 10 2005 Take a day off! – Please Read
If you feel, as the majority of Americans and people throughout the world do, that the war in Iraq is wrong, and you wish you had a way to show the Bush Administration, the Government of the United States, and the world, how you feel about it, then join us in our world wide walk out on November 10th 2005.
Show the world how you feel, and just how many of us feel this way. Let’s drive the point home by taking away from them their most precious item; money.
On November 10th 2005, unless you hold a position which people rely upon in the event of an emergency (you work at a hospital, a firemen, policemen etc), don’t go to work. Try not to drive your car; don’t watch T.V.; don’t use the internet. Stay at home. Read a book. Play with your kids. Engage in a hobby.
Plan a vacation day at work. Call in sick. Use your best judgment on how to take this day off.
If we don’t get their attention this way, we’ll just do it again, until we do.
If the people speak, and speak together, they have to listen.
Please email this to as many of your friends and colleagues as you wish/can.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:41 pmSmedley: I’ve been calling for a National Sick Day since the 2004 election scandals, but no one seems interested.
I feel that a complete shutdown of all businesses in the USA is the ONLY way we will finally be heard!
Unfortunately no one seems to want to risk losing their job to do this. They just don’t “get it” that their bosses cannot fire everyone.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:06 pmSmedley, There is already a Nov.2 stop work day in the works. Take back america. It would be good for you to pick another day, maybe in Dec. There are just so many day’s people can risk and or go with out pay, many in our country want to join in but can’t afford the price. I’m retired now so it doesn’t matter to me personaly, but, I know what it is like living pay check to pay check and risking survival of self and family. No offence, but double posting on every thread is not getting it here. Join the group running now and shoot for another one at another date. Think that plan will get you better results……Blessings..P,S. Sorry I am off topic.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:31 pmUnlike the partisan Ken Starr, who blantantly used the media in his witch hunt, Fitzgerald appears to be a professional who is above using such tactics. It’s fun to speculate but ultimately we don’t know what is going to occur…but we’ll know soon.
To me, the ultimate justice would be indictments Cheney,Libby and Rove (Bush would be the ultimate wet dream). Even with indictments against Libby/Rove…Bush will appear in front of the camera with his psuedo macho Texas swagger and state that we are in a time of war and that we need to move beyond this matter. The mainstream media will obey, and that will be the most likely ending this whole affair. Rove would resign from his job for “personal reasons.” With the Interent, physical boundaries and no obstacle to his gutter politics. He’ll just take his laptop to Texas and run the White House from there.
An indictment against Cheney would be much more problematic. No resignation though…just a pardon from Bush…then Cheney would be locked in the attic for the remaining 3 years.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:35 pmC&L has links to Joe Conason and other sites who are speculating that Jeff Gannon is involved in the leak. Apparently early on in the case, he let it slip that he saw an internal memo involving Plame, which had been given to the WSJ — the catch is that Gannon said this before the WSJ had the memo! We know that Gannon was an “insider” — interesting isn’t it?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:41 pmYes, perjury under oath and in front of a grand jury is a crime in my book. Unfortunately, you’d be a hypocrite for arguing that Rove should go to jail (or receive any kind of punishment for that matter, including removal from his current position in the White House).

November 2 is already being planned and demonstrations in major cities are expected to take place as well. I’m hoping for another massive march in DC (like the one on 09/24/05) but I don’t see that happening until spring.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:02 pmAS they say, They came for a revolution, stayed to run a racket.
The courts are the only to handle a crime family, Safavian, Abramoff, Delay, they are gona sing like canaries now, this is not former disgruntled Bushies, these are the insiders and appropriate heat with no deals will tell all. Tack on a nice trial with Kenny Lay and we have the perfect ammo to take out this Miers shill. Seems like inflation has hit that political capital he so has so much hubris about. Late night ATM’s are not gonna save you now Shrub, without your boys to prop you up, you are going to be spending a lot of time in Crawford.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:06 pmSorry lady, I meant the world can’t wait. I associat it with taking back america in my mind…..Blessings.P,S. that date is Nov 2.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:12 pmBit of a difference between perjury during a deposition in a trumped up civil case (Clinton) and perjury before a GJ during a federal criminal investigation (the entire Bush administration).
October 9th, 2005 at 2:14 pmUnlike the partisan Ken Starr, who blantantly used the media in his witch hunt, Fitzgerald appears to be a professional who is above using such tactics.
Just like the partisan Ken Starr, Fitzgerald was given this assignment by the Republican administration. If he’s partisan, he’s a republican.
There’s no way any rational person can paint Fitzgerald with a Democrat agenda.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:28 pmOn the Bill Maher show (HBO) the new Supreme Court Justice was identified as a homosexual! His children are adopted. I thought that President Bush was against homosexuals.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:01 pmThis fact has been ignored by the media.

How about you get a really good rat trap, put a big slice of cheese in it, and let it slam down on it’s target. I bet you won’t have a sewer rat like Rove RATTING OUT any intelligence operatives, like Mrs. Wilson, again.
Now this comment is done in humor, (I’m not speaking of violence against him,) however, he’ll fall into a “rat trap” of his own making. Anybody have any extra cheese? Looks like there’s about 20 more rat traps needed in the executive branch..!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmI sure hope Fitzgerald has the goods on Rove. An indictment would be too kind a thing for Rove. But it’d do.
I wonder how much longer the Grand Jury needs to work on the topic?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:14 pmDo you mean John Roberts is Homosexual? How come this did not come out before he got confirm?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:21 pmI’m sure St Wendeler was trying for the Clinton tie-in. Although the reich considers any currently unresolved question’s about their leaders to be ‘old news’, Clinton is still fresh meat. The reich’s two mantras are ‘9/11-Sadaam’ and Clinton. Their best-and-brightest commentators aren’t even embarassed about this. Really quite amazing…
October 9th, 2005 at 3:28 pmGrand Jury testimony of Karl Rove leaked by Rove-ing reporter (fictional). Please keep my identity a secret. Double super Secret. I could call in and have my voice disguised and/or my face blocked out. Please send me an email if you plan to use this. Thanks.

October 9th, 2005 at 4:54 pmHow does that repugnant, vile Novak stay out of this ?

October 9th, 2005 at 5:23 pmThe more immediate “Perjury Under Oath” example is the Martha Stewart case.
Martha Stewart was never found guilty of insider stock trading– She was found guilty of making false statement to a Federal investigator.
Under Federal Law it is a crime to make a false statement to an investigator during a Federal criminal investigation.
You can make what you want of the law– I personally don’t like it, but it is the current law.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:40 pmThe more immediate Perjury Under Oath case that is relevant to “Plamegate” is the Martha Stewart case.
And if it’s good enough for Martha, it’s certanly good enough for Karl and Scooter.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:44 pmSt Wendeler is an active member of the “KARL ROVE DUMB AMERICANS CLUB.” … These people are shameless, evil and heartless Americans who do not care and have no remorse in destroying other people’s lives, just so they can advance — the end justify the means CRAP.
The “Karl Rove Dumb Americans Club” has made US Politics the DIRTIEST and FILTHIEST in World History.
The “Karl Rove Dumb Americans Club” members are the cheerleaders of the Bush administration’s GRAFT and CORRUPTION. They are all crooked and corrupt.
The “Karl Rove Dumb Americans Club” and the “Christian Taliban Terrorists” are the people who are bringing USA down.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:48 pmrove et al get pardoned.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:07 pmMartha Stewart was just an scapegoat. Look at Kenneth Lay is still running around.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:11 pmMartha Stewart is hated by many so her crime of lying to a federal investigator brought her a heavy sentence. Karl Rove is hated by far more people than Martha Stewart – and he is dangerous to boot – so he should get the maximum sentence!
October 9th, 2005 at 6:39 pmHowever, if the result of Clinton’s perjury was to disguise a hummer and a stain on a dress and the result of Rove’s perjury was to aid and abet the dismanteling of a covert operatives identity and possibly lead to the death of agents in the field, suddenly the blow-job don’t look so bad.

HOW to NOT Secure 50 Metric Tons of Plutonium
The Department of Energy (DOE) stores some 50 metric tons of Plutonium, the Latest Govt. Accounting Office (GAO) Report GAO-06-164T, dated Oct. 7, 2005, found at http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d06164t.pdf
shows us that the Republican White House and Congress has failed to properly secure 50 Tons of Nuclear Materials. (Deadly Plutonium)
50 Tons of Plutonium in many different forms, oxides, liquids, etc. that were to have been Permanently disposed of by the Requirements of the National Defense Authorizartion Act of 2002 (Monkey Boy.) Have not been complied with.
“Look” Said the Intelligent Life Form, known as Arbustoians, as they approached earth, “The Freepers have not Evolved from their Previous State”
October 9th, 2005 at 7:31 pm“How can you Tell?” asked the 2nd Arbustoian.
Says 1st Arbustoian “For they till Speak thru their Asses”
I feel like a kid a christmas waiting for the Rove indictment.
Haven’t been this happy since watching Georgie melt down in the debates with Kerry.
October 9th, 2005 at 7:44 pmHopefully Karl Rove will get a plea bargain and expose the rotten structure of the Bush regime. I can’t wait for some administration official to say something on the stand such as “at the time I told the President, I was not sure he understood me because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed prior to our meeting.”
October 9th, 2005 at 10:23 pmPlamegate = worse than Watergate. Iraq is a disaster.
Add the procurement scandals favoring big defense contractors and energy cos, crony hack political payback appointments like Brown who resulted in thousands of Americans needlessly killed due to incompetence, Frist, Delay, the National Guard, Rove’s dirty tricks in South Carolina 2000 and the Swifties in 2004, and all the mistakes that didn’t have to be in leading up to 9/11 and the post-war Iraq disaster and the hurricane disasters.
Total result – impeachment for Bush. End of Rove’s political career. Republicans out of power for the next two decades.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:28 pm#42, Ken Lay is still running around because dumbya wants at least two new whackos on the SC to pardon all. Lay and the bunch are dumbya’s so called friends, elite, have mores, his base.
Roberts (Roberta SC Justice) and Miers (I’ll save your AWOL BACON) are the swing votes for a get out of jail free pass for dumbya and his friends.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:42 pmUnfortunately, you’d be a hypocrite for arguing that Rove should go to jail
Did he just infer I was hyprcrite because I think Rove should go to Jail and Clinton should have been left alone?
He’s not quite prepared for what is in the air.
I will lie, cheat, steal, back stab, inform, false accuse, misrepresent, overstate, and embellish on any person , place or thing associatted with the Bush administration in order to harm them.
If he’s looking for a fair game, I can suggest some fairy tales for bedtime reading.
I’m playing for keeps. Don’t turn your back on me Mr. Republican because I will stick you deep.
October 10th, 2005 at 12:14 amI want to see a Karl Rove perp walk as much as anyone, but it just isn’t going to happen. Bush has the power of the pardon, remember. He is never going to run for any office again in his life, so why wouldn’t he use a pardon to keep his good friend, Turd Blossom from going to prison?
Yes, I believe that pardoning Rove will cause at least a mini-backlash at the Republicans, but I truly do believe that Dubya will cut his pal loose anyway. I just hope that the backlash is big enough to force this Mafia out of office by ‘08.
October 10th, 2005 at 8:22 amI’ve thought about this. I think that Scooty bootie, and probably Turdblossom are in deep trouble. I don’t think Chenney or DUHbuhya are going to get nailed. Someone will take the bullet for them, just like in Iran Contra. Both puppet and puppet master will develop Ronnie-esque like Alzheimers and “not recall” anything. Scooter and Rove and a few low level minions take the bullets. There’s no way, IMO, that we’ll get the triple crown of Bush, Chenney, and Rove charged. Even if they were. Bush’s last act would be to pardon Chenney, and Chenney’s first act as President would be to pardon Bush and Rove. Maybe not Rove, the sacrifice of Rove would be some sort of attempt to “soothe” the savage temperment of the sheeple.
October 10th, 2005 at 8:59 amHang the bitch and let us watch.
October 10th, 2005 at 9:44 amAhh, it was the JEWS who attacked the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon.
Yes, that’s a rational explanation… Why is it that every discussion thread on a Lefty site like this ends up going in one of three directions:
1 – Rove is master of some conspiracy (check – that’s what this entire post is about)
2 – Jeff GannonGuckert is involved in some conspiracy (Check)
3 – The JEWS (or the Bush Administration or the BFEE) were behind the attack on Sept 11th. (Check)
Thanks for the laughs…

… I guess you’re right , St. Wendeler , re : your #2 assumption . After all , how could having a GAY MALE PROSTITUTE , using FALSIFIED credentials to get access to information , and access to CLASSIFIED information which is to be shared with his ‘ buddies ‘ ( take THAT whichever way you please ! ) – how could THAT possibly bother this ” Bring MORALITY back to the White House ” adSINastration ??? … ;)
October 10th, 2005 at 2:59 pm#56 – “Bring MORALITY back to the White House” – so, is what Clinton did in ‘97 supposed to be moral? Is it morally OK to fool around with White House interns then lie to a federal grand jury about it? My question is, when has morality ever been in the White House?
October 10th, 2005 at 3:55 pm“I still cann’t figure out why Novak is not in jail?”
He talked.
And, 56, you are correct about morality never having anything to do the White House. Unfortunately, too many Americans seem to have a “sliding scale” morality, especially when it come to this admininstration, and the GOP, in general.
October 11th, 2005 at 1:05 pmIt depends on what the meaning of “you” is.
October 11th, 2005 at 3:35 pmFocus in a debate often reveals more about a person’s integrity than the facts behind each statement. It can show whether a person is interested in justice or just making excuses for criminals. Nittany Lyin’ (no Lion-heart of integrity there) reveals it’s all about distracting people from their favored criminals, not actually *removing corruption* from politics. Yes, corruption has been in the White House before, but why highlight Monica-gate, a decade-old issue about a man’s lie regarding his sexual activity? Because, the nit-wittany’s of our country can’t — no, WON’T — admit when their favorite leader is dangerously corrupt. It’s a sad pattern, wherein those who initially support a group’s rise to power will always ignore the truth of how they erred in their choice. Instead, they’ll toe the Party Line like Brittany, er Nittany, vapidly avoiding the issue and either bringing up ‘excuses’ or distraction. What’s next, Nittany? Will you focus your comments like a laser on the current issue of treason that is before our country, or will you babble out stale and unimportant issues such as “Gay marriage – how it’s threatening AmeriKa.” Maybe, for once, real Americans who support our amazing Constitution will stand up and ask for the heads of the traitors embroiled who in this scandal. Unfortunately, I doubt it. Folks like Nittany Lion will wring their hands, crying about Jim McGreevy and Chappaquiddick and Tea Pot dome. They can’t argue with the scumbags in their own family, it just woulnd’ be right. Ever wonder why American families raise so many ill-mannered and unethical children? Maybe it’s because they see that Mommy and Daddy are as noble as The Prince, and instead of cleaning their own house of corruption, they hire Machiavelli to drag other’s through the dirt. Why should people like Nittany Lion take responsibility for voting into office a man who keeps company with actual traitors — within the Oval office? (Sex in the Oval office is a crime? TREASON in the Oval office, now that’s a crime.) Yes, today’s adults set an example for our children by avoiding their responsibilities, such as how they facilitated the placement of traitors within the hallowed halls of the White House. It’s sad. Elected leaders commit crimes, and their followers start yammering about parity and hypocrisy, instead of putting the FOCUS on JUSTICE NOW. When are the Nittany Lion’s of our society going to stop putting their primary attention on avoiding responsibility?
