A new federal tax credit

meant to help allay the extra costs of buying a hybrid car actually “provides greater financial incentives for buying heavy SUVs than more fuel-efficient cars.” (Via Sploid)

this makes as much sense as drilling anew for oil when we’re trying to find better energy sources…

  2. Justin says:

Argh. What IS this?? Can’t they at least do ONE thing right!? ONE! That’s all I ask. Some sort of competence… *sigh*

  3. Jay says:

If you’re a shareholder or own loads of stock in Exxon/Mobil, GlaxoSmithKline, United Defense, MBNA or Bechtel/Parsons…….they’re doing everything right. In fact, marshall law and an extension of the Bush presidency would be a-ok by you.

  4. Dumb Fox says:

#2 – Au contraire, mon ami.

You think the corporate lobbyists who drafted the ENERGY Policy Act, you know, accidentally screwed this up… you think the pimps that write America’s laws are paid millions make “mistakes” like this…. you think the likes of Exxon want to incentivize you to use less gas… and you think the GOP and their mascot in the White House would have corrected this had they done the math…

    You think?

  5. David says:

Not one bit surprising. At this point, anything coming from the GOP led government should be considered:

    A) Cynical and short-sighted
    B) Self serving/enriching
    C) Politically motivated
    D) All of the above

  6. afterthought says:

Well, I was going to say something like
what did you expect, but the rest of you
    have covered it nicely.

  7. Justin says:

Yes I have been duly chastised. And here I thought the government was supposed to be for the PEOPLE.

  8. Jay says:

    Billionaires are people too :)

  9. Marie says:

Well, we are all thinking alike on this one.
When the GOP is in power, do not, do not, do not look for anything that benefits the average persons, the taxes they pay or the environment.

  10. Citizens Against Drunk Presidents says:

#8 yeah, all 10 of them. What about the middle class? Where’s our representation?

  11. Jay says:

    CADP #10,

The Republicans always tell Americans that their trickle down economics (i.e. tax cuts for the rich) create jobs by investing in capital. Obviously, it’s just one more lie that they have to tell in order to dupe the sheeple. When Bush 41 had the chance he shifted wealth upwards as well and we had an economy in the late 80’s early 90’s that was desperate as well. The current situation is going to get exponentially worse than that. How could it get better with fiscal policies that are in fact deisgned to ruin the middle class?

We have no representation except ourselves. The Senate and the House, for all intents and purposes represent big business and not “we the people”. It’s why so many of us are screaming for a change, for the Dems to sacrifice some of their own personal gain in the name of doing their f%&*^ng jobs and representing middle America.

Storm the castle! It’s our only hope….

  12. Marie says:

The reality of “trickle down” is piss on ‘em.

  13. Susan says:

We all know that Bushie wants us to be more dependant on oil than ever.

Everything Bushie does is about profit for him and his oil buddies.
