White House Operative: Bush Went to New Orleans to Find “A Good News Story”

The official reason for President Bush’s trips to New Orleans, via Scott McClellan:

The president believes that it’s important to get a firsthand account of the operations that are ongoing to provide relief to the people in need.

The real reason, via Charlee Williamson, who works for the French Quarter restaurant where Bush dined yesterday:

Last Thursday, I got a call from a member of the president’s advance team. She is actually from New Orleans. Her father is one of our best customers at Bacco. And they were looking for a place that had reopened that was a good news story about business coming back to New Orleans.

    This is stating the obvious.

  2. yankeluh says:

And the good news story cost us taxpayers now much?

  3. progressive and proud says:

I’m sure Airforce One is using regular unleaded and not the super stuff.

  4. Mary Poppin says:

Old Bushie should stay in Washington and how much is this costing the taxpayers. A BUNCH!!!! Money that could go to the New Orlean’s people.

  5. Pete Bogs says:

Bush want things in New Orleans to get back to normal as quickly as possible… on this trip I heard he did a Jell-O shot off Laura’s navel just before she flashed an appreciative crowd…

  6. I-RIGHT-I says:

Is this the best “Think Pink” can do? You’re blasting the President of the United States for visiting and supporting a stricken part of our country. A part of the country that didn’t even vote for him? I guess there’s no rock too small you won’t throw. Nice job ratbastardcommie mofo’s!

  7. Pete Bogs says:

too much, too late, IRI… he’s wasting gas now after the fact when he should have been on top of this at the beginning, when it mattered!

  8. Clyde the Ripper says:

The Dems offered the use of their Air Force 2 for his trip, but, unfortunately, he refused. Check it out; click my name.

  9. Ryan Neat says:

MrWrong confuses a ‘mission accomplished’ photo op for any real work by GeezAssW and his army of inept and incompetents.

And despite his delusion that a president only governs and protects those who vote for him, it’s the job of the president to protect ALL americans. Something reichwingers and their minions of the undemocratic and unreasonable never seem to understand! But then again, they’re closer to Stalin and his totalitarian purges than they are to america or democracy!

  10. Ryan Neat says:

I notice that since we pointed out MightyWindbag was MrWrong in drag he/she’s switched her personna back to the regular stupid homophobe, and away from the faked boobie drag queen she was last week… What a sad bag of wind he/she is…

  11. to the right of you says:

    slow news day, TP?

better late than never. he was slow in the immediate aftermath, but hope he learned, and apparently wants attention on the issue that we have in the present.

I guess we could never have more than 1 reason of going someplace…now can we?

this is ridiculous…i could agree with some stuff on here…but hey, its your bandwidth ( i guess it is just text).

  12. Southwest Bob says:

Geeze, the prez was asleep at the wheel of the country and now is flying back to the scene of the crime every day to show he cares. Too little ~ too late. It’s transparent and Americans don’t care about “feel good photo ops” of a prez who is a complete failure as a leader. Repubs are all excited and saying nasty things about anyone questioning the prez. . . must be scary times around the repub camp fire.

  13. Zookeeper says:

#6 – Ewww. Now I have to claw out my eyes.

  14. Marie says:

This is costing the taxpayers $6800 an hour just for the plane. He doesn’t need more photo ops, he missed his chance to be presidential while he was golfing and clearing brush in Crawford. This is merely publicity, and the public can see through the sham — everyone except, perhapy Harriet Miers, who apparently writes him fan letters.

  15. all wet says:

There is flooding in New Hampshire this week which may be a small-scale version of the failure in New Orleans

New England has a system of flood control that has been in place for decades, most of it operated by the Army Corps of Engineers.

So the destruction that resulted from the recent heavy rain is suspicious and worth investigating.

    Here’s the flood report.

Here’s the flood control system. Were they understaffed? Had they neglected maintenance? Were they working on other things (Iraq?)

Hey neocons, (above), We will bash the criminals until the cows come home. Unlike you, we prefer to have our tax dollars spent on helping people who have suffered a loss of some type.

We do not enjoy paying criminals hundreds of thousands of dollars per year (and thats just their salaries) to commit more crimes.

If you want to support criminals why don’t you go to your local prison and buy some murderers some cigarettes?

Why don’t you help an online sexual preditor pay his internet connection bill each month?

How bout raising funds for the rapist who has no money for a high power attorney?

I think its safe to assume that you yourselves are criminals because only criminals support criminals.

Just go on doing what you do but remember, these people you support are the ones that will have the pleasure of phisting you in prison.

  17. Zookeeper says:

#18 – The real questions are whether the sun is shining too brightly for a photo op, are there little black children for that photo op, and do they have any good restaurants?

  18. Jacob says:

I noticed in the video that while the restraurant owner was talking about Bush’s steak and Laura’s gumbo ya ya, the bottom of the screen stated that 350,000 families were left homeless by Katrina. I lost my appetite.

  19. David B says:

Screw this asshat and his photo ops.

  20. Marie says:

The Bushes pose like peacocks but they should be embarrassed. The phony photo op with Habitat, the meal at the fancy restaurant, the tool belts for the couple — they don’t know one tool from another — is revolting — it won’t win any votes.

  21. Disgusted American says:

So was warning people not to vote for Bush.

When you live a country with the dumbest people on the planet, what may be obvious to you and I, is rocket surgery to the rest of these monkeys.

  23. Disgusted American says:

Personally, I think you are one of the monkeys, troll.

  24. seefleur says:

    You are right.

    Rodents?

  26. Susan says:

#21 Jacob, its disgusting to watch Bushie eat steak while the scroll on the bottom screen states there are 350,000 homeless people who are probably eating out of garbage cans. It’s like Bushie was rubbing it in their faces that he can have food but they (the homeless) must scrounge for food.

Is Bushie that stupid? Yes, of course he is.

“Hey look at me pig out while the rest of you scrounge!”

    What a freakin pig.

Susan when not fulmenting treason, you seem to have a constant obsession with violent or weird sex. See a therapist, dear.

  29. mighty aphrodite says:

On topic – God KNOWS we CAN’T have a GOOD news story out of New Orleans!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT will not help the
Dem cause ONE BIT!!!! We can’t have tourists thinking they MAY want to return to New Orleans some day!! How can Dems get everybody back on some “entitlement” program if businesses open and actually need employees? WE KNOW if President Bubba were still in office her would ONLY go to McDonald’s – AND he would have taken 325,000 people with him so as not to upset poor Jacob in comment 21. “Jacob, eat all of your dinner – think of the poor, homeless in New Orleans.” Of course the poor starving kids in China didn’t have the Red Cross and donations pouring in, who knew?

““We do not enjoy paying criminals hundreds of thousands of dollars per year (and thats just their salaries) to commit more crimes.” – Susan

I thought it was the mossad and Israel. After all, those billions go to somewhere…

“Susan when not fulmenting treason, you seem to have a constant obsession with violent or weird sex. See a therapist, dear. ”

Well S&M drag queens like you tend to bring out those tendencies. You seem to think that wierd sex is in fact something that requires a therapist – actually it’s the REPRESSION of those urges (I’m guessing you?) that’s actually what typically needs treated – not their execution. Repression makes people creepy like you…

  31. Ryan Neat says:

And what does the queen bitch say when we talk about the president having a ‘hollow photo opp’? He/She makes stupid comments about ‘entitlements’ and nonsense about McDonalds. One would call here heartless, but that would imply that she’s a human being. Clearly he/she’s deficient on the basic human capacity of empathy, manners or even compassion. He/She’s clearly a great example of why ‘compassionate conservatism’ is as much of as an oxy moron as a fundamentalist religious intellectual is!

  32. dano347 says:

“One would call here heartless, but that would imply that she’s a human being.”

One could call him/her shit – but it would be slurring shit. Dung at least has nutrients which can be useful in fertilizing plants. The only things He/She/It ever fertilized are the bedsheets.

  33. admin says:

  34. progressive and proud says:

    Aphro is scary mean.

  35. Ryan Neat says:

    P&P,

He/She’s a typical stupid redneck. They are too stupid to know what they don’t know. Their opinion is based on lies, misinformation and blind stupid hatred. They can’t help themselves, as their rational brain is so disengaged no fact or proof will save them from their psychosis. I just refuse to allow them to spread their lies and propaganda unchallenged – as we all should. That’s what america deserves – even if they clearly will never get it. Prozac is the best prescription for the republican party – and I’d support federal subsidizing of that treatment!
