October 11th, 2005 at 11:08 amAll of the rightwing conservatives except Dobson are screaming their heads off over the Miers nomination. Sure she’s incompetent, as they point out. But that is not why conservatives are against her. Its because she doesn’t lean far enough to the right to assure the destruction of Roe vs. Wade and rule in the same cloth as “Bork the Dork” would have. They want someone who is so far to the right and so extreme that even Pat Robertson would be humbled.
Instead of joining in on the attack, perhaps the democrats should all stand behind her. Back the president and watch it divide his own base. They have the power and votes to go thwart the democrats anyway, but wouldn’t it be worthwhile to let her appointment be a devisive wedge in the republican party and at the same time allow everyone in the country to see just who is behind all the curtain in the oval office?
Does anyone here seriously believe that if Miers is dropped, the next choice will be more liberal? No, this is as good as its going to get for the liberals, so why join with the exterme right to help them get a hardline ideologue on the court?

I would expect Democrats to support her only if she seems qualified and able. She isn’t looking that way yet.
