DeLay Allies Resort to Attack Dog Politics

A new advertisement by the Free Enterprise Fund compares Travis County DA Ronnie Earle to an attack dog. (Watch the video here.) The ads will be saturating airwaves in Austin, Earle’s hometown, but will also be running nationally on Fox News.

Mallory Factor, chairman of FEF and a Bush campaign Ranger, explains the motivation behind the video:

By pushing grand juries to issue politically motivated indictments of prominent Republicans, Ronnie Earle is trying to make it a crime to be conservative, to support an agenda of lower taxes and less government. That’s un-American.

It’s not a widely held view. Only 24 percent of the public thinks that Earle’s charges against DeLay are politically motivated. Sixty-five percent think the indictments suggest illegal activity by DeLay. (Read the truth about Ronnie Earle here.)

FEF’s defense of Tom DeLay is a “six-figure project” according to Peter Ruff, a vice president at FEF. The group was founded by right-wing activist Stephen Moore, formerly of the Club for Growth, whom the New Republic calls, “A voodoo economist…[who uses] especially devious methods to torture the data.” Moore has called DeLay “a conservative hero” and describes himself as a “Tom DeLay fan.”

Bush is responsible for the largest government in history and the only people with lower taxes are the richest 2% of this country.

But, I do think that being a NeoCon should be illegal, not your everyday conservative. The real conservatives just have a different point of view. NeoCons have an imperical agenda.

Hey everybody, I’m back from New York! Now I know why Bush has such a low approval rating there. It is very much not white, the way Texas is. There are too many colors in New York for Bush to get any kind of good rating. And getting an entire pizza place to start bashing Bush only took me saying one thing to the person I was eating with.

DeLay must be feeling true heat, for he is definitely in heat over Mr. Earle and that vicious doggie. As usual, DeLay and his disciples (who owe him big-time) are taking his case to be tried by the public through his “I’m a victime here,” message over public airwaves, cable, and satellite. Let us all say a prayer for Tom-tom so he will feel the Lord is with him when he is sent to prison.

“When Republicans took over the house in ‘94, they had an agenda which America agreed with and still does to this day. ”

Yeah – an agenda created by the NeoCon fascist followers of Leo Strauss. Most americans didn’t know that agenda – and frankly don’t agree with it. The only ‘agenda’ that caused a win in 2004 was all of the supposed ‘corruption’ of house democrats that republicans kept harping on – and the fact that Clinton was having to pull us out of the depression that BushI put us in.

Your revisionist history is just that – revisionist and propaganda. It isn’t true, and it’s just the lies you tell to yourself in hopes they’re true…

Oh please – that’s such a crock. The largest number of people pulled out of poverty since carter occurred under clinton. The largest economic boom happened under clinton. A million more americans voted for Gore than they did Bush – and only through a coup d’etat provided by the supreme court did he ascend to the dictatorship.

    You’re a delusional moron!

Let me see if I understand. Am I supposed to be “weak” and “desperate” because George Bush has been in the White House for the last 5 years, and Al Gore is shooting his big mouth off – in Sweden? Or is it because my taxes are low, conservative judicial appointments are at an all-time high, and the U.S. military is kicking butt in Afghanistan and Iraq? Or is it because the GOP has won national elections for 3 straight cycles now? Or is it because Hurricane Katrina just exposed the corrupt failure of 60 years of nanny state liberalism in Louisiana – not to mention the superior disaster response of the conservative state of Texas? Gee, with all these choices it’s tough to figure out why I’m supposed to be so “weak” and “desperate.” But I’ll bet you lefties wish you could be “weak” and “desperate” like me!

  58. Mr. Evil says:

    # 56 BSR: Do you live in Louisiana? I do. Baton Rouge actually. Superior disaster response of Texas? Let’s see, after 5 days FEMA finally buses tens of thousands of people from the convention center and a hurricane ravaged arena (The Superdome) without electricity, food, water, working toilets, etc. to an arena (The Astrodome) that was clean and untouched by Katrina. It had electricity, water, working toilets, etc. because they had 5 days to unlock the doors!

60 years of “nanny state liberalism”? Obviously you’ve never been to Louisiana and actually met any of the people. Yeah, go and tell everyone how terrible we are the next time you want to come to Mardi Gras or maybe to attend another Super Bowl. Texas has even fallen behind Mississippi in graduation rates and standardized testing scores. Teen pregnancy rates in Texas are higher than anywhere else in the nation. Your dumbing down process is alive and well. Keep talking.

  59. Ryan Neat says:

“Let me see if I understand. Am I supposed to be “weak” and “desperate” because George Bush has been in the White House for the last 5 years, and Al Gore is shooting his big mouth off – in Sweden? ”

Stealing an election doesn’t make you strong, it makes you desperate and undemocratic.

“Or is it because my taxes are low, ”

With the largest spending spree in american history. You clearly would prefer republicans tax your children than you – but deficit spending IS a tax. Not to mention the largest deficits and one of the worst economic downturns and job losses in american history. When TRUE unemployment is counted (not just those still eligeable), your party has managed to turn one of the largest economic booms into one of the largest busts. And the super low interest rates have surged a housing bubble that’s about to take it all south for a second time!

“conservative judicial appointments are at an all-time high, ”

True – but that’s part of the desperate move to hold onto power. After all if conservative judges hadn’t illegally appointed king george – he would be washing cars in texas…

But ironically not even your own party can agree on the justices. You look like stupid and desperate crony fools. How pathetic you appear to everyone but yourself (probably to that too behind closed doors).

“and the U.S. military is kicking butt in Afghanistan and Iraq? ”

Kick butt? Is that why our soldiers hide in bunkers and are dying and becoming wounded in the thousands? Both wars were completely mismanaged by people even more inept than you…

“Or is it because the GOP has won national elections for 3 straight cycles now? ”

    Diebold
9/11 and exploitation of the republican FAILURES
Desire of americans to rally around mr. inept

These however are all coming to a head – as the recent polling shows. American patience has run out – leaving your party desperate once again for any advantage.

“Or is it because Hurricane Katrina just exposed the corrupt failure of 60 years of nanny state liberalism in Louisiana – not to mention the superior disaster response of the conservative state of Texas?”

No, everyone but you idiots already knew that. Have you ever been to Louisiana? Louisiana is one of the most dysfunctional places on the planet – and everyone already knew that but the inept morons at FEMA who couldn’t pull their heads out of their asses. The whole point of homeland security was to secure and prevent disasters from destroying cities. All this proved is that your ‘war on terror’ is hollow and filled with incompetent cronies. Yeah – you look desperate.

” Gee, with all these choices it’s tough to figure out why I’m supposed to be so “weak” and “desperate.” But I’ll bet you lefties wish you could be “weak” and “desperate” like me!”

Actually each of these choices show cronyism and an increasingly desperate effort to hold grip. Thanks for showing everyone exactly how desperate and what miserable failures you are.

Another desperate attempt! DeLay knows he’s a loser.

With a show of hands….how many of you have to take out television ads to defend your honor?

  61. Mr. Evil says:

Ryan, we’re not perfect but, we are anything but dysfunctional. Like I said above I live in Baton Rouge. My family rode out Katrina (lost a maple tree, part of my fence and electricity for 5 days) and I know what the governor was doing and did. Repugnican propaganda is totally wrong about what they were trying to do here. But when trees and power lines and other trash litter the roads and interstate highways, when cell phone towers are down (literally) everywhere in the affected areas, no electricity, massive flooding, etc. it’s slightly difficult for local governments to do everything because they just don’t have the resourses. Supposedly that’s why we have FEMA in the first place.

  62. WaltTheMan says:

    BSR,
“George Bush has been in the White House for the last 5 years”
    - 9/11 happened because W would rather go fishing then act on 08/16 briefing and warnings from the prior administration.
    - W turned budget surplus to a massive deficit.
    - With the exception of NH, state and local governments have had to raise taxes because of programs canceled by W. NH is on the edge.
    - Illegal and irrational war against Iraq has decimated our military(But Saddam tried to shot my daddy).
    - Sweetheart no-bid contracts with Bush/Cheney corporate supporters have raided the treasury.
    - Single mindset – Lower taxes on the privileged, crush the needy.
    - Scandal, scandal, scandal…
“Al Gore is shooting his big mouth off”
    - But he’s telling the truth!
    “because my taxes are low”
    - You must live in NH, but wait til your state runs out of revenue.
“conservative judicial appointments are at an all-time high”
    - This is called collateral damage. Judicial impeachments will correct this.
“the U.S. military is kicking butt in Afghanistan and Iraq”
    - Through no fault of their own, the military is on thin ice. If they had had sufficient armor and force, the mission would have been accomplished in 2003. If an Iraqi police force been empowered, instead of banished, the insurgency would have collapsed two years ago.
“the GOP has won national elections for 3 straight cycles now”
    - The first cycle was stolen. The other two would be moot points after that.
“Or is it because Hurricane Katrina just exposed the corrupt failure of 60 years of nanny state liberalism in Louisiana – not to mention the superior disaster response of the conservative state of Texas?”
    - The ’superior’ response in Texas occured because W realized he had f**ked up in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. He still managed to f**k up the response to Rita in Arkansas and Louisiana.
Can anyone be more perfect as a failure?

Actually, no – that would have been the Mayor of New Orleans, who apparently decided to clean up every spare bus in the city the “Big Easy” way by leaving them all out in the middle of a hurricane.

  75. Ryan Neat says:

“OK, so which was it, “horrible” or “quicker and better”? Funny, without a liberal songbook to sing from you lefties can’t even sing the same tune.
Comment by Blue State Red ”

See, you being a fascist and all, you won’t understand this. Liberals RARELY sing the same tune – it’s because we think for ourselves. It’s you and your fascist buddies that sing the same tunes – because you don’t have a full brain between the lot of you.

Now as for Rita – it was a HORRIBLE response, but unfortunately Katrina was so BEYOND HORRIBLE, it’s hard to know where to begin.

If Rita’s response had happened absent of Katrina, people would be screaming. But when you allow an entire american city to be destroyed, and much of its population stranded in flood waters – it all just LOOKS like upside.

In otherwords, once UTTER incompetence is shown, MERE incompetence seems flat.

  76. Spudge_Boy says:

Okay you fvcking moron. Let me explain since you seem to be a retard (and I don’t mean learning impaired). Bush “quickly” jumped on a PR chance to give “better” response to hurrincane Rita, that turned out to not be needed, but what did insue was “horrible.”

  77. Jane E. Schneider says:

SpudgeBoy, you forgot to put quotation marks around “home” [state]. I forget, where was Bush actually born? And how many does he claim as “home”?

  78. Spudge_Boy says:

“Actually, no – that would have been the Mayor of New Orleans, who apparently decided to clean up every spare bus in the city the “Big Easy” way by leaving them all out in the middle of a hurricane.”

The buses WERE used to evacuate people, then they were parked. Go learn some facts.

You don’t read well do you boy? You know this crap has been debunked don’t you? You must be a latecomer to the site – as this was already settled. The only transportation available to exit the city were school buses and public transit buses. The school buses were REJECTED BY FEMA because they weren’t air conditioned. The FEMA APPROVED evacuation to the Super Dome and other shelters DID happen as was scheduled. The job of FEMA was to rescue those in shelters and left behind, as well as to get to them any emergency supplies needed.

The SPIN and LIES from you and your propaganda buddies is not only embarrassing, but it’s malicious and deceitful. But then again, as a republican, being malicious and deceitful appear to be the only skills you have.

  80. Spudge_Boy says:

    Jane,

You are correct. Everybody, except stupid repubs know that the only reason why Bush claims Texas as his home state is so that he doesn’t have to pay taxes. That is what a lot of rich folks do. Just another way to screw their own country.

  81. Jane E. Schneider says:

BSRtist, I meant that a) FEMA actually started worrying about the storm BEFORE it hit, and b) THOUSANDS FEWER DIED.

By the way, Repugnicants are the ones with a songbook. Too bad they can’t carry a tune.

  82. Ryan Neat says:

City buses were used to move people out of the city. The school buses were used to ferry people to shelters – and parked afterwards.

And no matter HOW this happened, or even if it didn’t. The job of HOMELAND SECURITY was to be prepared for this, and to ENSURE that the cities were. If Homeland security was too inept to know there wasn’t a plan – then what are we supposed to do when the terrorist strike NYC or LA or any other target? Clearly if they can’t manage a flood – we have no hope against terrorism.

But then again, hard cold reality NEVER seems to leak into the mind of the psychotic republicans!

  83. Blue State Red says:

“The only transportation available to exit the city were school buses and public transit buses. The school buses were REJECTED BY FEMA because they weren’t air conditioned.”

I read okay. I also know that FEMA had ZERO power to prevent the Mayor of New Orleans from exercising his independent powers as the chief executive officer of the city. If Ray Nagin had loaded those busses with people and taken them out of harm’s way, there is nothing the federal government could or would have done about it. Remember “the buck stops here”? Well, in a city the buck stops with the Mayor. And the last time I checked Mike Brown was NOT the Mayor of New Orleans.

  84. Spudge_Boy says:

Once again, you are incorrect. The director of homeland security and the director of FEMA ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CONTROL. You do not read. Or maybe I should say, you only read your repbulican talking point newsletters.

Rita? Sure looks like you said “Katrina” to me. Typical repugnicant double talk. And by the way, what was the deal with all the thousands of people stranded in that gridlock on every highway that I saw on TV dipshit? No gas, people on the side of the roads in droves. 93. Spudge_Boy says:

Oh yeah, we are supposed to be talking about the facts that Tom DeLay, a guy who is known as “The Hammer” is complaining because somebody Ronnie Earle is “like a mad dog.”

I would have a little sympathy if his nickname was “The Puffball” or “Squishy,” but you see Tom DeLay likes the name “The Hammer,” so fvck him.

The republicans just don’t like it when their tactics are used against them.

    Too freaking bad.

  94. Blue State Red says:

“City buses were used to move people out of the city. The school buses were used to ferry people to shelters – and parked afterwards . . . And no matter HOW this happened, or even if it didn’t. The job of HOMELAND SECURITY was to be prepared for this, and to ENSURE that the cities were.”

    . . .

“Once again, you are incorrect. The director of homeland security and the director of FEMA ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CONTROL.”

It’s true . . . They told me it was true, but I didn’t want to believe it: you really don’t know what you’re talking about. The job of FEMA is to coordinate federal resources with state and local disaster response officials. It is NOT to “take control” and it is NOT to referee political food fights between governors and mayors. The Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans remained in control of their own jurisdictions at all times during Katrina, and they did not cede their local authority to the feds.

Try to follow this now: if city transit busses could be used to evacuate people, so could city school busses. FEMA or no FEMA, who would have stopped Ray Nagin from using those busses, if he really wanted to evacuate the citizens who elected him? No one, that’s who.

Not to mention that if Congressman Jefferson was able to commandeer military vehicles for his own personal use, he surely could have done so for the benefit of his constituents.

Whatever mistakes were made by FEMA (and there were mistakes by FEMA, too, just as there were mistakes made by Governor Blanco), Ray Nagin was in charge of the NOLA police and the NOLA disaster response, and he was ultimately the public official at Katrina ground zero with the power to deploy those busses.

FEMA was FEMA for both Katrina and Rita. Despite the evacuation difficulties in Galveston and Houston, during Rita, the timely response of public officials there stood in stark contrast to the state and local bickering, foot-dragging and ineptitude we saw in New Orleans during Katrina.

What’s interesting is that this all occurred in a city and state that have been controlled by nanny state Democrats for decades. All that money, and all that unchecked power, sure didn’t do much for the people of New Orleans, did it?

Okay, boys and girls, let’s all read the above and try to find where it says that FEMA does anything other than “coordinate” federal resources in an emergency. It doesn’t say that, does it? And it sure doesn’t say that FEMA “takes control” of local resources, does it?

Well since english is clearly a second language for you – I’ll point it out for you. Home and religious schooling is ruining america.

“authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide

mobilize: to marshal (as resources) for action – mobilize support for a proposal

    provide:
    a : to supply or make available (something wanted or needed) ‘provided new uniforms for the band’;
b : to make something available to – provide the children with free balloons

It doesn’t say ‘ask the state to provide’, which is the bullshit you imply. Clearly you suffer from idiocy combined with insanity.

“Y’all have a real swell evening. It’s time for me to go count all my filthy Republican lucre.”

Actually I doubt your money is the issue, not unless you’re a major stockholder in Halliburton. While you’re probably greedier and stupider than most – the largest societal burden and those who should be paying the most are those in the top income bracket. The fact that you’re stupid enough to defend this aristocracy isn’t surprising. Self servitude and serfdom is often a problem in those to ignorant to realize they’re duped into providing it.

  104. Ryan Neat says:

So now that I’ve shown BSR is incapable of reading english, I return to the thread at hand. Your posting here is a great example of what Delay is doing however, and serves to remind all.

When faced with their failure, republicans (Delay especially) attacks something that is innocent and smears it with lies. When presented with concrete facts that dismiss their threat – they simply parse the language and deny it says what it says. When you pull out the dictionary and SHOW them it says this, they say your reading of the dictionary is wrong.

So how does one beat someone like this? Well in a court of law it is through a judge who hopefully is capable of reading comprehension beyond the second grade. Now Delay is being tried in texas, so there’s a good chance he’ll get a stupid redneck like BSR who doesn’t meet this qualification – but then again, there’s a good chance he’ll find a judge who just happens to have a little bit of schooling and integrity. They still exist in Texas, as hard as it is to imagine.

Like most republicans, when threatened Delay attacks the person, since he can’t actually win on the facts. He tries to make the fact someone attacked him the point – since the point that he’s repeatedly been proven (by his fellow republicans) to be an immoral and lying crook will surely send him to jail!

  105. WaltTheMan says:

    BSR,
It all comes back to FEMA rejecting the use of school buses because they did not have AC. The tourist buses were rejected because they were offered for free. Countless tons of ice drifted around the country because it was donated. The offer of cruise ships as floating hotels from Greece was rejected because they were being offered out of compassion and for free. Mobile homes were rejected because they were being offered at no cost. Food from our European allies was rejected because meals served to our service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan were judged unfit for consumption by ordinary Americans.
The administration, instead, offered no-bid contracts to pals of Bush and employers of Cheney to supply these services.

Correct me if I’m wrong, honey, but don’t you think old Tom is feeling just a little naked himself right about now? I mean, I bet the guys in prison would enjoy his flabby ass if he was to ever go there. But you and I both know that jail or real prison would never, ever be in the cards for a man as rich, white and as powerful as DeLay.

This is similar to a tactic Kay Bailey Hutchison’s attorney (Mr. De Geurin again?) used to taint the jury pool when Mr. Earle had a case against her. The trial was moved from Austin to Houston, then the case was dropped – not sure why it made a difference, but Austin is probably the most left-leaning city in Texas.

I’m sure Mr. Delay is hoping for a similar outcome this time. Why argue with success (as we say here in Texas)? Talkleft.com has the details.

You’d think if the charges were really baseless, they’d concentrate on DeLay’s evidence of innocence. This just comes off looking desperate. Why push this ad to his base? Because he’s at risk of losing them. Political ads don’t try cases, they’re used to pump up public image. He’s worried about his job – not prison. That should tell us something. He knows he can get either a slap on the wrist or the charges dropped through assurances he’s received from counsel or even worse – by his cronies. He’s concentrating on having work when this is all over. Sad. The Beatles were wrong. Money CAN buy you love.

  119. SpudgeBoy says:

Exactly. Rather than attack Ronnie Earle, why not put some evidence in a commercial that proves your innocence? You know, some documents that have Bill or Hillary’s signature, instead of DeLay’s signature. Oh yeah, because the documents have DeLay’s signature on them. Too bad they can’t just burn shred or delete those dang documents and erase everybody’s brain.

Oh crap, I think I gave them an idea.

  120. Frostokovich says:

Oh, puh-lease. Earle has a record of being an equal-opportunity prosecutor. In fact, he’s gone after far more Democrats than Repugnicans. Laws are broken, and he does his job, and now he’s going to be swift-boated for it. Gee…that is SO rare with this administration of hyenas. DeLay and Rove must have been separated at birth by a surgeon. I expect they share the same brain–the one marked (to borrow from Marty Feldman) “Abbie Normal.”

Villains and poltroons are running our government. Assassinating someone’s character because you have no legitimate response or defense is so pathetic that we shouldn’t even be paying attention. In fact, I think I won’t.

DeLay deserves his fall. He earned it. Thank you, Mr. Earle.

I’m a little late to this conversation but I do need to respond to #20. As a former conservative I used to thinkdems had no idea’s, and to a current conservative that probably appears to be the case. Why should they put forth any idea’s? Would they get heard in congress? Does the current right have any interest in what the dems think, other than to ridicule and demean the originators of the idea’s? I think the dems have a nowin situation here right now.

But I also see it from another angle. The right claims the dems have no idea’s and that the right is chock full of idea’s. From my view point I say not having an idea is far better than haing basket full of bad idea’s. Why enact plans that only lead to an America which is worse the day after the enactment than it was the day before? Standing pat and doing nothing is far better than enacting ruinous plans. for examples see: Iraq, Medicare, the Republican plan for the destruction of social security, etc… rising poverty rates bad economies, exploding government, declingin civil rights? These are the results of the last 5 years of Republican only policy with no dem input allowed. I say once those bad ideas have been allowed to fester and rot, they need to be disposed of.

The current version of the republican party is more interested in getting their way and in implementing their theories than they are in being correct. (borrowed frm some blog somewhere)

That’s a good question. Since you always make accusations about Kennedy and Clinton that were never PROVEN in court – clearly your standards are so low that if Delay is to be judged by them he should already be in Jail. You so funny! I bet you have man boobs ManDighty! What a hoot your perceptions of others is! The party that brought you ChickenHawk central, the party of girlie men who suffer from ‘anxious masculinity’, thinks progressives are unmasculine? Bahahahaha. That’s called projection dearie. Look it up sometime! If you learn what it means, it’ll help you understand your psychosis better. But at your level of screwed up, don’t try it at home – see professional guidance!

Bahahaha – you so funny MightyManWhore!
