Matt Drudge broke out the siren this morning for “breaking news” about Harriet Miers. He called this an “exclusive“: The DRUDGE REPORT has obtained a copy of sworn testimony given by Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers in 1990 in which she said that she “wouldn’t belong to the Federalist Society†– a conservative and libertarian lawyers’ organization – because it was “politically charged.†Actually this story is a week old. Here’s a Knight-Ridder article published on October 6: In the same testimony, Miers … said she “wouldn’t belong to the Federalist Society” or other “politically charged” groups because they “seem to color your view one way or another.” Developing… [We first noticed the Knight-Ridder article in this post from Talk Left.]

Actually, Drudge has provided a lot more info re: this story. He provided the transcript of the testimony. And the really new info is that Miers said that the NAACP is NOT politically charged.

…Anyway, I went to the 99¢ Store today to get paper towels and toilet paper and look what I found—a copy of The Drudge Manifesto. I bought it—heck, it was only 99¢.
Drudge certainly belongs at the 99¢ Store. What happened to the guy that brought down Clinton and used to be on the cutting edge of Internet “sleaze journalism� The format of the Drudge web site hasn’t changed in years. Why hasn’t he ever moved to a blog format? Drudge is a dinosaur.
I still look at it everyday, but it’s really nothing more than a link site. Nothing new, nothing original. There are certainly dozens of other sites out there that do what Drudge does, but they do it way better.
