Rice: After 9-11 “We Could Decide the Proximate Cause Was Al Qaeda”

This morning on NBC’s Meet the Press, Condoleezza Rice explains why we invaded Iraq:

The fact of the matter is that when we were attacked on September 11, we had a choice to make. We could decide that the proximate cause was al Qaeda and the people who flew those planes into buildings and, therefore, we would go after al Qaeda…or we could take a bolder approach.

This may be news to the Secretary of State but the proximate cause of 9-11 was al-Qaeda. Nevertheless, the administration decided to invade Iraq instead of focusing our efforts on destroying al-Qaeda and capturing Bin Laden.

Today, bin Laden remains at large, international terrorism is on the rise and the invasion has become “a potent recruiting tool for al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.”

UPDATE: Crooks and Liars has the video.

As long as the Bushie administration continues to make excuses for invading Iraq, I will continue to believe that they are admitting that they went to war illegally.

How about the former FBI director under Clinton who was on Meet the Press this a.m. He’s spewing lies about Clinton yet refuses to reveal his sources. The bottom line is he’s trying to drum up support to attack Iran.

Give it up neocon, nobody on this planet will support another illegal war.

  4. TK says:

We could also have decided that it was Jason who attacked us and gone after a fictional horror movie figure. That would have been really “bold.”

  5. Doug says:

She is misusing the idea of proximate cause, but what I think she is saying is real root cause or motivating cause. Their bolder approach was apparently to destroy the status quo in the arab and muslim world, and hope that something better would result, something better that wouldn’t be a cauldron for terrorism against us. It was a bad idea then, which is why they had to lie about it, and it turned out to bad execution of a bad idea. I think there was an idea there though, that some of them believed.

  6. John Gillnitz says:

Why didn’t they just go all the way and nuke China? Isn’t China the biggest threat in a “boulder” sense? I seem to remember them holding our people and a plane hostage for a few days. Wussies.

  7. roachpoacher says:

    “We could decide…”

That means that they know who the real perps are.

It also is a tacit admission that it was impossible for a 6ft5 Arab with a beard and turban, operating from inside some cave in a country stuck in the 10th Century to make the 113th Air National Guard, and those at the Headquarters of the world’s most powerful military to stand down on 9-11 without some inside help at the Pentagon.

    “Operation Northwoods,” anyone?

“Rebuilding America’s Defenses,” PNAC ? “New Pearl Harbor”?

    “The Grand Chessboard”

They have written about it all.

And now Condi all but admits it.

    Are you listening, America?

  8. Susan says:

And don’t forget that Bin Laden requires dyalisis. How many caves are equipped for that?

  9. RF says:

  11. bcf says:

Going beyond “proximate cause” as they did, I would think it only fair to dub the Bush administration’s invasion of Iraq as the “deep pockets” approach to foreign policy.

  12. Brian says:

They just never thought they would be held in account for the Iraq war, that’s all.

  13. BS Detector says:

From reports by Le Figaro, and LeMonde, Bin Laden met with Larry Mitchell [CIA Agent and bigmouth in UAE] during the week of July 4th 2001 at the American Hospital in Dubai.

He reportedly also got a new and improved portable dialysis machine to take with him at that same time.

I suspect Bin Laden was informed that he might have to go deep undercover for awhile, and so was getting prepared.

    Thanks Larry.

  14. Aunt Deb says:

Is she saying that al Qaeda was not directly involved in the attacks on the WTC? Or is she just trying to argue that since al Qaeda is an Arab organization, all Arabs are proximate cause?

I wonder what Phil Gramm (whose Korean wife cost him the GOP nomination in 96) thinks of that?

Morris has got it wrong so many times, he can only make a living shilling for Scaife and such. It helps when his talking points tell him to knock Hillary….

  29. ck says:

Google “ISI” and “9/11″, and it becomes obvious that our good freinds in Pakistan were more involved in the WTC attacks than Iraq.

But then again, that whole reality thingy does have much value in a BushCo bolder approach.

  31. catnap says:

I, too, decided that it was too early in the morning for Rice. That said, it is little wonder that much of the American public is increasing angry about the war. Everytime we open the newspaper, we are given another justification for the war. It is remarkably disingenious and an insult to the integrity of each and every citizen. I can’t believe that Rice added another to the pile.

In Bob Woodward’s book, ‘Bush at War,’ he wrote that Bush felt confident that the American public would support his decision to wage war like ’slipstream’. In a book chockablock with Bush’s arrogant musings, to me, this one comment was the most chilling and telling of his maniacal ego. Also his most deadly.

  32. DrBB says:

“Bolder.” Ah yes. Their favorite adjective, spread wide in song and story by the media for every lunatic move these nutcases take, domestic and foreign.

Note to media: here is a list of more accurate adjectives you can use to describe what the administration is doing whenever they characterize their actions as “bold”

“Hazardous.” “Radical.” “Extremist.” “Rash.” “Hasty.” “Unjustified.” “Opportunistic.” “Illogical.” “Obstinate.” “Just plain stupid.”

For more, consult your Thesaurus under “insane.”

  34. big dave from queens says:

Good thing Condi Rice was not FDR’s Secretary State in 1941. She may have concluded that Japan was the proximate cause of the Pearl Harbor attack only to become bolder and choose to invade Bangladesh and Sri Lanka instead.

Why go to all that trouble. If Morris said that, Condie can pretty much hang up her guns right now. She’s doomed. Morris has never been right about anything. It’s like he’s the anti-Midas or something.

  36. Angelo Peña says:

I cannot believe that this is the best that Condaskeeza could do. What’s worse, is Russert doesn’t hold her to accountable. He could have easily laid into her and attacked all their ridiculous arguments such as “fighting them over there so we won’t have to do it here.” Um, ask 3000 dead people in NYC about having the fight brought here. Not to mention the ones that died in PA and @ the Pentagon. History will look back on all this and will wonder what the hell were the people of this country thinking? Or rather, that they were NOT thinking at all!

  37. blasphemousdopefiend says:

When my tummy hurt, I had a choice to make. I could decide that the proximate cause was that I had eaten 47 Nuclear Hot Wings from Pluck-U Chicken, and, therefore, take some antacid. Or, I could take a bolder approach and cut my stomach out with a shovel.

  38. aquarius says:

I find it very interesting that Ms. Rice, who has been behind the scenes for a long time, is now out in front with interviews and increased travels, etc. Hmmm, let’s see, the President approval rating with Afican Americans is below 2% and not likely to get better. Any connection with a visible Rice and poll numbers??? Nah, probably just a coincidence.

  42. Old Jim says:

Sorry big dave from queens but Rice-hooper couldn’t have invaded Bangladesh and Sri Lanka instead because they didn’t exist in 1941. Bangladesh was part of India and Sri Lanka (Ceylon) was controlled by India which was a part of the British Commonwealth with a British Minister (called a protectorate). That would be invading British colonies. If you want to know anything about old history, just Google Bush – he has answers to everything Alas but they are 911.

Maybe because they have a multi-trillion dollar stake in our country and they have us by the oily short hairs? I now Kingdom Holdings has strong positions in Media Corp (Fox News) and CNN…anyone know what their position is in GE?

So who do we thank for our dependency on ME Oil?….why, it’s the House of Bush! George HW Bush gave us “Morning in America”, Dimson is giving us “Evening in America”.

I wonder what South American country the Bush Family compound will be esttablished in?

  45. Mike Brown says:

Condoleeza’s quote is a perfect example of making the comments fit the errant policies(or lack thereof)instead of dealing with reality. A psychologist would call it rationalization; but, as we all know, it’s really just more neocon spin.

  49. karena says:

Oh my God. We had to “decide.” Hey, was this just a slip of the tongue, a wrong choice of words, like the time she called Bush “my husband” at a dinner? Let me get this straight. While Bush attended his reading lesson at Booker Elementary, someone slammed two planes into the WTC, someone else slammed a plane into the Pentagon, and someone else shot a plane…I mean antother hijacked plane crashed in PA. After that, don’t you investigate? And when you conclude who did it, right or wrong, don’t you try to bring them to justice? No, you decide who you want to try to pin the blame on and start a war. Unbelievable.

#31, Bob- absolutely brilliant comment mate! Quite a chuckle I had going… until I remeber the topic here and all that anger against the players in this administation boils up- these “people” are the architects of failure on so many levels it’d be comical were it not so tragic. NeoCondi’s statements illustrate perfectly how their attempts at spin are growing more and more desparate as public opinion turns against them; these past few weeks, with all it’s various scandals and investigations reaching a tipping point, have been like watching in slow motion a damn about to burst- first a few leaks trickle thru here and there (imagine Bush, Rice, Rove, Rummy et al scrambling to plug the holes w/ their fingers), then the cracks begin spreading, faster and faster they wind and connect, spouts bursting, chunks of concrete falling… the Fitzgerald indictments may be the final surge that brings the whole wall down, sweeping the entire Axis of Feeble away in a tide of discontent, shame, and humiliation. Will justice be served(?) is the question. Anybody feel me?

  52. pahoo says:

Every story I read about Iran before we invaded Iraq said that Iran’s younger – freedom loving ‘liberal’ voices were being heard and gaining political strenght by the day.

Team Thug shot that to hell. Kind of like using the National Guard to protect the homeland as Hart-Rudman said needed to be done. Shot that to hell, also.

Anyone else get the feeling that Bush and his accomplices all want to rush past the mandatory “we all morn the deaths” line? It’s like they want to get to the more pressing deceptions of the day. As if they are tired or bored with having to say they really give a damn about any of those giving their lives for the Child tool and his band of inept fools?

“bolder approach…and that meant a different kind of Middle East”

    moments later she says:
“The Syrian regime is out of step with what is going on in the region, …”

    and then:
“So this is about Syrian behavior. I think you will see over the next couple of weeks that we will have to address these issues in a multilateral fashion…”

  57. spooked says:

What roachpoacher said above. Basically, Condi is admitting 9/11 was an inside job. Al Qaeda is a largely ficitonal creation as is the official 9/11 story.

  58. Brian C.B. says:

Did anyone not note that this statement in effect admits that Administration was too cowardly to put its true rationale for war up to the American people prior to the invasion of Iraq, preferring to exxagerate the threat of Saddam’s “weapons of mass destruction”?

Sure. You could make it that way for yourself anytime you feel like it. Just remove yourself from society take nothing but a knife and go live in the middle of one of the national parks. You wouldn’t last a month before you’d be sitting there asking yourself if it isn’t too late to go dragging ass back to your Mom’s house.

“Today, bin Laden remains at large, international terrorism is on the rise and the invasion has become “a potent recruiting tool for al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.””

Bin Laden’s DNA is spread all over Tora Bora, and international terrorism is on the wane. They can’t do squat except blow up their own backyards. Recruiting is down now that the cannon fodder is finding out all the leaders really want is walking bombs and even the thugocracies are cracking down on their ideological soul mates vowing to crush terrorists among them.

It’s a simple matter of doing what you say you’re going to do that’s making the battlefield fall out from under the Islamofascists. We’ve done everything we’ve promised and that leaves them no doubt as to how many millions of people we’ll kill in the middle east if the current ruling heads don’t get their act together and pay more that lip service to the war on Muslim religious fanatics. Iran is the exception.

Instead of believing we’ll turn them into a modern day Gomorrah they’ve increased their anti-West rhetoric, support for insurgents and development of atomic weapons and delivery systems (with the help of Russia, Red China and N. Korea.)

If anyone here thinks Iran will be allowed to field atomic tipped long range missiles (thanks to the Russians) capable of hitting European capitals not to mention Israel they aren’t thinking straight. Neither Republican, Democrat or touchy feely Eurolosers will stand for that.

If Iran doesn’t stand down there’s going to be another war but this one will only take a few minutes before it’s all over. It’s too bad. The Iranian people in general are first rate. Too bad so many of them think the moon god is going to pull their asses out of the nuclear inferno.

Sheesh! If ever there was a definition of “clueless” she is it. I can still remember her testimony before the 9/11 Commission. That she felt the memo stating that Al Qeada was going to use airliners to attack within the US wasn’t important because no-one told her it was important and that she thought it refered to events outside the US. And to think she’s considered to be “bright” — ouch!

  75. Ryan Neat says:

MrWrong wants to turn this discussion into one over Iran – and the question is why? Since Iraq has been such a miserable failure, the NeoCons want to look for the next war, hoping they can execute this one better. But what’s the REAL story with Iran. Here’s some background.

We must first go back to the Ford administration (A REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION SCREWED UP AGAIN OF COURSE) where Rumsfeld laid the foundation and sold the equipment to allow Iran to develop NUCLEAR WEAPONS. Republican presidents are just one foreign policy disaster after another! Because of their failures with CREATING ALQUEDA AND OSAMA, CREATING SADDAM, and EVEN CREATING A REVOLUTION IN IRAN THROUGH EISENHOWER OVERTHROWING THEIR DEMOCRACY AND INSTALLING A DICTATOR, once again republicans wish to follow failure with folly. If they weren’t killing so many americans, and endangering the security of the nation (THEY CLEARLY HATE AMERICA AS THEY ENDANGER US CONSTANTLY), it would just be sad. But unfortunately republicans aren’t just sad, they’re so inept THEY’RE DANGEROUS!

” Yet Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and outgoing Deputy Secretary Paul Wolfowitz held key national security posts when the Ford administration made the opposite argument 30 years ago.

Ford’s team endorsed Iranian plans to build a massive nuclear energy industry, but also worked hard to complete a multibillion-dollar deal that would have given Tehran control of large quantities of plutonium and enriched uranium — the two pathways to a nuclear bomb. Either can be shaped into the core of a nuclear warhead, and obtaining one or the other is generally considered the most significant obstacle to would-be weapons builders.

After balking initially, President Gerald R. Ford signed a directive in 1976 offering Tehran the chance to buy and operate a US-built reprocessing facility for extracting plutonium from nuclear reactor fuel. The deal was for a complete “nuclear fuel cycle” — reactors powered by and regenerating fissile materials on a self-sustaining basis.

US involvement with Iran’s nuclear program until 1979, which accompanied large-scale intelligence-sharing and conventional weapons sales, highlights the boomerang in US foreign policy. Even with many key players in common, the US government has taken opposite positions on questions of fact as its perception of US interests has changed.

Using arguments identical to those made by the shah 30 years ago, Iran says its nuclear program is essential to meet growing energy requirements, and is not intended for bombs. Tehran revived the program in secret, its officials say, to prevent the United States from trying to stop it. Iran’s account is under investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is trying to determine whether Iran also has a parallel nuclear weapons program.

Since the energy program was exposed, in 2002, the Bush administration has alternately said that Iran has a secret nuclear weapons program or wants one. Without being able to prove those claims, the White House has made its case by implication, beginning with the point that Iran has ample oil reserves for its energy needs.

Ford’s team commended Iran’s decision to build a massive nuclear energy industry, noting in a declassified 1975 strategy paper that Tehran needed to “prepare against the time — about 15 years in the future — when Iranian oil production is expected to decline sharply.”

And then lets go back further where Eisenhower overthrew the democratically elected government in 1955 to install the Shah (A DICTATOR) because they didn’t like the actions of the democratic government. What they said and did almost mirrors their current responses to Chavez in Venezuela. Republicans don’t believe in ‘democracy’, they believe in ‘corporatism’. When democracy gets in the way of corporatism, it’s the first thing to be axed, and not the other way around as it should be!

” The last time Iran and Iraq had really warm relations was the mid-1950s. Iraq then had a British-installed constitutional monarchy, and Prime Minister Nuri as-Said was fanatically pro-Western. The CIA had put Mohammad Reza Shah back on the throne in 1953, deposing the democratically elected prime minister, Mohammad Mossadegh (who had angered the United States when he nationalized the Iranian oil industry). In 1955 Said and the shah both signed on to the Baghdad Pact, a U.S.-sponsored security agreement against the Soviet Union and Arab nationalist Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt. The pact proved ill-fated, however. A popular revolution overthrew the Iraqi monarchy in 1958, and Nuri’s corpse was dragged in the street. Another popular revolution overthrew the shah in 1979. In 1980-1988, Iran-Iraq relations reached their nadir, as Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party and Khomeini’s Revolutionary Guards slugged it out on battlefields of a dreary horror not seen since World War I. Jaafari’s visit was designed to erase the bitter legacies of that war.”

By joining the American Coalition 4 Direct Democracy (Am 4, four fingers raised, the umbrella concept that unites political action groups) we can provide the voice that will win the real War on Terror and expose the misconduct of our administration. Everyone should know that the invasion of Iraq was planned before 9/11 and contracts for rebuilding destroyed targets were already drawn up. John Poindexter and others were former bin Laden allies who engaged in running cocaine into our country in the 1980’s (Mena, Ark airport) and supplied groups such as al quaida with weapons and laundered money, having previously supplied bin Laden with 600 stinger missles bought by the taxpayer. The Bush staff already included former exonerated felons and perjurers who would break any law for policy. There is evidence to establish a flowing of informnation from the White House to the al quada enabling them to know that they were not being scrutinized (see the photo of bin Laden in a red Toyota spotted by the unarmed drone), would not be subject to an immediate counter attack and would attain the common goal. Al Quaida attacked New York to provoke the invasion of Iraq and provide a bigger front for radical Islamic terrorism. Of course this administration is now looking at Iran. Am 4 will not allow the government to fire nuclear weapons at millions of unarmed middle eastern citizens. Join Am 4 now and keep it a secret. This is a wonderful site, keep it going. -Doug

Hey…chill out…relax…The answer to your question is that while Osama sent the terrorists to attack the twin towers, the CIA knew where they were and most likely what they intended. It was allowed to happen because it was the only way to get the public behind action in the mid-east. This has been the pnac’s agenda for a long time.

The Bush family is close to the Saudis, when GW went tripping through the bluebells with King Saud he most likely recieved assurances that Osama would be reigned in by his family.

There is little chance of another attack from terrorists in the US. All of the “alerts” have been raised for political reasons. The people we are not safe from are the pieces of shit that crawled out of the abyss and sit in Wash. DC.

of course, now that the bees are out o’ the nest, what other options do these misguided idealogues have, except ‘run and hide’.

recall the evidence from former secretary Paul O’Neill, who was a member of the NSC as well, which clearly showed bush and his minions planning to invade iraq and overthrow saddam, from literally day 1 in office. which is why, as Richard Clarke, former security czar testified, they missed the signals on the al-queda threat here… and 9/11.

yup, Condi and the neocons will be cheerleading the hollow ‘democracy’ in iraq, since anything is better than the chaos which they have created. however, the chances for factional fighting as well as continued insurgency attacks are high, not to mention that if a govenment is ever formed, it will be very weak and allied with iran.

We could decide that the proximate cause was al-Qaeda and the people who flew those planes into buildings and, therefore, we would go after al-Qaeda and perhaps after the Taliban and then our work would be done and we would try to defend ourselves. Or we could take a bolder approach, which was to say that we had to go after the root causes of the kind of terrorism that was produced there, and that meant a different kind of Middle East. And there is no one who could have imagined a different kind of Middle East with Saddam Hussein still in power.”

The existence of a “proximate cause” implies the existence of an “ultimate cause.” Even Condi couldn’t try to make the case that Saddam was the ultimate cause of all terrorism. Removing him was necessary but not sufficient, at least as far as the Administration is concerned. To “go after the root causes…meant a different kind of Middle East.” Iraq was the available target, but is only a means to an end. The American people are not prepared [ie, propagandized] for the full picture yet. The fighting is not nearly over. Next: Syria? Iran?

The CIA guy was at the American Hospital in Dubai to talk to Osama, alright, but he was there to tell him when would be the best time to strike, for example, when there was going to be a military exercise, thatthe Bush administration had turned it’s focus away from terrorism, so that Osama pretty much ahd s free reign (as a matter of fact, pertinent agencies had been told to lay of the bin Ladens and money landering.

John Ashcroft had thrown such a fit at the mere mention of Osama’s name, that no one was about to mention it to him again.Still he stopped taking commercial jets in July 2001.

Well, that there Middle East place is just packed full of terrorists, who only have one goal in their heads – “Kill Americans”. That’s all these people think of, and nothing else. They live to kill Americans and destroy our way of life, and like roaches they infest the very woodwork of society. Yep, I-R-I, there are no “innocents” around terrorists. If they are used as ‘human shields’ then they are guilty of aiding a terrorist. So why not glass the whole Mid-East? Just get all them freedom/America hating terrorists and their human shield allies in one fell swoop. But let’s not leave out other places there they hide – like, well, pretty much the whole area (to include Israel, which REALLY hate us – ever been there? I have.). You know, its all pre-emptive anyway, and even you know that all those Mid-Eastern people hate us. Kaboom! So, what’s a little “collateral damage” and nuclear fallout among nations?
Now, to the actual point (which I-R-I seems incapable of commenting on in the majority of his… her… its… posts). Ricey just admitted that after 9/11 they did not go after the actual (????) mastermind behind the attacks – the person that the people of the US wanted them to go after, that they chose instead to advance their agenda, and that they decided that the root cause of the attacks was… Iraq being led by Hussein. Funny, how that dovetailed nicely into the PNAC strategy already in existence (including establishing bases in foregin countries and control, or at least oversight, of the oil fields). How convenient. It seems to me that they are trying a new excuse to try to find one that will actually float on the public opinion…. because if indictments are coming, they have to have a good excuse, and some public support. She also admits, though, that they lied then… if their reason (as she postulates) was to seek out the root of the terrorism that led to the strikes (which doesn’t work, since Al Qeda and Hussein were NOT on friendly terms), then the original argument, regardless of what is was, was a lie. If that was the reason, then why not have stated that at the start (o.k., I know, because Rove just now thought of it).

The fact that AlQueda was funded and trained by Rebublicans is a good place to start.
The fact that invading Iraq has INCREASED AlQueda recruiting – just as the CIA warned.
The fact that invading Iraq has INCREASED terrorism acts worldwide.
The fact that our support, and sell weapons to (particularly republicans) of fascist dictators in islamic countries is also a good start.

There are a LOT of factors, some the result of the cultural issues in those countries, some caused by external forces. But americans are making it worse, and not making it better when republicans mismanage as they ALWAYS seem to do.

Comment by Ryan “history buff” Neat

Created by Jimmah “Peanut” Carter, funded by the Donks and destroyed by Republicans is the truth. Every thing you know is a lie Neat. How does it feel to be such a ridiculous stooge?

The 2002 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to former President Jimmy Carter for:

“his decades of untiring efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights and to promote economic and social development.” (Norwegian Nobel Institute, http://www.nobel.no/eng_ins_new.html , 11 October 2002)

Liberal commentators in the US tend to view the decision of the Nobel Committee as a rebuff to the Bush administration’s war plans. Former president Carter, in contrast to George W., is said to have placed human rights at “the centrepiece of US foreign policy.” In the words of the Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Gunnar Berge, the award “should be seen as a criticism of the policy that the current US administration has adopted in relation to Iraq”. (Quoted in the Toronto Star, 21 October 2002).

    Distorting History

These “human rights” and “peace” buzzwords serve to distort the history of US foreign policy. Here again, the US media has failed to mention a crucial “missing link” — a factual piece of information on Carter’s presidency which has a direct bearing on our understanding of the ongoing post-9/11 crisis.

Amply documented, but rarely mentioned in 9/11 news reports, the “Islamic Militant Network” (the forerunner of Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda), was actually created during Jimmy Carter’s presidency (1976-1981). In July 1979, Carter signed a presidential directive to launch a secret plan in support of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. Confirmed by former CIA director, Robert Gates, in his book, From the Shadows, this “secret plan” was instrumental in triggering the Soviet-Afghan war. (Robert Gates, From the Shadows: The Ultimate Insider’s Story of Five Presidents and How They Won the Cold War, http://www.gtexts.com/worthreading/gates.html ).

Most American high school history books describe how the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, “without provocation and with overwhelming force”. America then “came to the rescue” of the Afghan “resistance”. This happened under president Jimmy Carter.

Yet Carter’s National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski confirms that it was the US and not the Soviet Union which started the war:

“According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention….” (Interview with Zbigniew Brzezinski, Le Nouvel Observateur, 15-21 November 1998)

In other words, the Soviet-Afghan war was triggered on the orders of President Carter, the latest recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.

I’m capable of waxing eloquent on almost any topic but after awhile this banging my head against the concrete stupidity of the majority of posters here wears a little thin. You are mistaken about almost everything. Islam is THE threat. Period. Ossama is just a little turd in the big crapper known as the Middle East. I think the majority of American want to get Ossama but also realize that killing him will not end the Global Jihad that started some 1500 years ago.

What you people refuse to understand is that we are in a fight for our lives and the Filthy Left is on the other side. That makes the majority of you willing or unwilling enemies of the USA. That’s all there is to it. Here’s a little snip from a book that tells the truth. I suggest you pick up a copy of this instead of The Nation.

“Blankley argues that we must view terrorism and its practitioners like Osama bin Laden in the broader context of a cultural upheaval taking place across the Muslim world. One fifth of mankind, Blankley says, is “in turmoil, and insurgent as it has not been in the last five hundred years, if not fifteen hundred years.” Blankley says we can’t know whether the radical jidahist elements of Islam will eventually peter out or whether they will strengthen and deepen over time, though he suggests “the latter is far more likely.”

“Of particular concern to Blankley is the speed at which Islam is asserting itself throughout Europe; a process exacerbated over the last few decades by liberal immigration policies, falling birthrates across the Continent, a decline in the willingness of Muslims to assimilate, and an adherence to the diktat of tolerance among Western elites that has prevented any meaningful discussion of the issue.

“As a result, Blankley argues the fate of Europe now hangs in the balance. “The threat of radical Islamists taking over Europe,” he writes, “is every bit as great to the United States as was the threat of the Nazis taking over Europe in the 1940’s.

The invasion of Iraq or some other “oil rich” Middle Eastern nation as Clark knew well was inevitable not because of the oil under the sand but because of the nature of the threat trillions of petro-dollars in the hands of Islamic thugs represented.

It’s also interesting to note that the last chapter so critical of Bush seemed to have been added as an afterthought after the book was already written. It’s funny how that happened just in time for the 2004 elections.

However much they attempt to cover it up, the fact remains that Iraq was invaded becasue Bush and Blair lied.

Repeating the same worn out slogan over and over again doesn’t make it any less stupid. Stupid.

What Mo said is correct. Europe will be first. But what the hell as a society Europeans long for death anyway. We’ll be next if the Filthy Left has their way. Christian America is all that is standing between the West and Islam.

Comment by I-RIGHT-I — October 19, 2005 @ 10:21 am You are right so why do you think repeatedly saying Bush lied over and over makes it right. Every word you speak and the others with you, simply bolster the confidence of the very people our armed forces are trying to keep from blowing your whining ass up. shhhh listen did you hear that? ……It was the sound of NO One caring what you think! Unfortunately the only vaccine for your stupidity is time. Some people die before their time comes too! Let’s hope you live long enough to receive yours.
Bush acted on information he had, and sure it was flawed, but Iraq did have over 20 tons of Uranium that we took out of Iraq after it was found. Some of it had been processed and was capable of being used in atomic bombs or dirty bombs at least. NY Times reported the moving by The US because activist groups were fearing the worst, leaks, spills, accidents that would release the active parts in the environment. So he did not lie, it was a simple fact that misinformation was sent to Bush. Even though Sadam still did not comply with UN sanctions and cease fire agreements. The Congress voted overwhelmingly to go to war, Democrats and Republicans alike. It’s easy to try to blame one person when if everyone was together like in WWII the enemy would break quicker and victory would be swifter. A quarterback of you high school or college football team gets cheered on and that game does not place your life on the line.
