Will President Bush keep his word to fire any administration official involved in outing Valerie Plame?
Thanks to Karl Rove, he likely won’t be forced to make that choice:
Even before testifying last week for the fourth time before a grand jury probing the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity, Bush senior adviser Rove and others at the White House had concluded that if indicted he would immediately resign or possibly go on unpaid leave, several legal and Administration sources familiar with the thinking told TIME.
Resignation is the much more likely scenario, they say. The same would apply to I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, the Vice President’s chief of staff, who also faces a possible indictment. A former White House official says Rove’s break with Bush would have to be clean—no “giving advice from the sidelines”—for the sake of the Administration.
Make no mistake, the Time report is an attempt by Rove allies to spin his first post-indictment move. A “source close to Rove” claims the reason for the resignation is to allow him “to fight aggressively ‘any bull– charges.’”
If "ifs" and "buts" were sugar and nuts we'd all be eatin' cookies. Come on, Nico!
October 16th, 2005 at 12:25 pmWill DUHbya resign when he is indicted? Will Cheney resign when he is indicted? On and on ad nauseum!
October 16th, 2005 at 12:26 pmThe problem today to the same as before, namely President Bush. Once it was discovered that he lied in order to take the country to war his immediate removal should have been demanded. Not by a few Democrats, not by a few disappointed liberals, but by the American public at Large, and such would have been the case if the American people understood what an impeachable offense really consisted of!
October 16th, 2005 at 12:31 pmmeanwhile, the r's are abandoning bush in droves, illinois being one example...

I agree. Once they said there wasn't a tie between Iraq and Al Qaida, the American people should have went batty. But, when we found that there were no WMDs, there should have been an imediate removal of these freaking jerks. You don't start a war because you want to. In fact, America should not be starting any wars, period.
When we were attacked on September 11th, we were attacked by Saudis. So, when anybody says, we were attacked first, that is the lamest excuse ever. If we were defending aourselves and making sure anoter 9/11 doesn't happen in the future, we should have attacked Saudi Arabia.
What did happen is akin to the USA attacking Norway, because Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
Oh yeah, the topic is about Rove resigning if he is indicted. All I have to say to that is resigning won't protect your ass Rove. You're going don't Turd Blossom.
October 16th, 2005 at 12:44 pmThis is useless speculation. Is Bush's word any good? No. Monday or Tuesday, of two weeks from now or a month now, maybe the prosecutor will actually indict someone - hopefully several people, hopefully, but not likely, the President. Most likely Rove. At that point, will Rove resign, if the past is any indication of the future - No he won't resign. And then everyone will begin discussing how awful it is to have someone under indictment running the country. But nothing will change.
We'll go on as we've done for the past 5 years talking about how awful it is, and nothing changes. Bush carries on destroying the country, Rove carries on destroying whomever he can, and everyone gnashes their teeth, but no one does anythign about it. And come next election, Americans will robotically go back to the polls and vote these crooks back into office, or they've vote in a different set of crooks - maybe Democratic crooks - but crooks nonetheless, and soldiers will continue to be sent to IRaq, Halliburton will go on stealing billions - and we will just sit here whining about how awful it all is. Something has to change here people. How long can the country go on like this before things erupt into open hostility, like what went on in Toledo Ohio over the weekend.
October 16th, 2005 at 12:45 pmCNN tonight 8:00 Eastern. King report looks good.
October 16th, 2005 at 12:50 pmwe r all children of abu graib,
I'm concerned, too, about lack of action by ANYONE for the multitude of discretions. I feel at the heart of this is that the Islamic terrorists have won because of how divided we are. Could you imagine the message Bush would send to terrorists if he cleaned his own house in an attempt to SALVAGE the war on terror?
October 16th, 2005 at 12:55 pmBush's silence is hurting us and helping the terrorists.
this just in...
zell miller held a press conference yesterday and made his position about the plamegate case abundently clear...
"..if rove and libby are indicted, i WILL challenge them to a duel...and i promise you, they won't have to worry about serving time...
that settles it...they're toast...
sad singing and slow walking....
October 16th, 2005 at 1:04 pmWhile it's nice to speculate about damage to gwb's loyal handlers, I haven't seen anything in the past four+ years that leads me to believe he's going to throw up his hands and pubically say, "You got me!" This mis-administration behavior pattern is to deny and lie. The problem for America, is that it's worked. gwb doesn't care what the average American thinks of him, or else he would have changed his tactics long ago. His approval ratings are in the tank; he's a lamb duck; and he's still paving his retirement road with goodies for big business. He's lived in denial his entire life.... If nothing else, this will be intersting to observe. A president in a personal crisis.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:12 pm#6 Kind of fatalistic commments, but hard to disagree with in light of what has occurred over the past five years. In spite of whatever lie has been told, scandal exposed, bribery uncovered, ineptitude revealed, things remain essentially the same.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:15 pmA part of me retains optimism and the hope that we can and will change the course of events, but bouncing back and forth between those two thoughts is not comforting and increasingly difficult to manage.
Rove can call them bullshit charges if he chooses, but if he is indicted, I hope he spends his last dollar in a futile defense of himself, and the next 20 years in prison, and the balance of his life in shunned in exile.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:18 pmin other news...
when president bush was informed about anna nicole smith's case before the USSC, he immediately cut short his photo ops in flood ravaged new orleans and rushed back to washington to assist in re-inserting her feeding tube...
a frustrated bush pondered ms. smith's fate if the secular humanist liberals got their way...
"...it's obvious that they're starving her...she's lost at least 100 pounds...i mean, just look at her. she's wasting away. well, not on my watch mister. i'd like to thank dr. frist for diagnosing her by "pitcher" phone...and who can thank mr. delay for his tiresome (sic) efforts in this landmark case...if god meant for ms. smith to weigh 110 pounds, she would have been born that way...unfortunately, the hate america first crowd see it differently in the wake of 9/11. we see it differently. terrorists will NEVER be allowed to starve a poor widow as long as me and fristy are around the feeding tube station. you see...we have to fight the liberals here, so we don't have to fight them in crawford. they hate our freedoms, and i know how hard it is to put food on your family, much less insert it in them. so thanx for coming, but i have to get busy now...i've already rolled up my sleeves and donned my flightsuit. i may not be qualified to do this next thing, but i've got faith and i did stay in a holiday inn express last night...HEY FRISTY...hand me that feeding tube...let's get 'er done...
October 16th, 2005 at 1:30 pmI for one am optimistic that Rove will resign. As a matter of fact I will demand that he does.
I am the People and it is my duty. Anything less would make me a traitor.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:35 pmSo has anyone started a Rove defense fund for Miers to donate to?
October 16th, 2005 at 1:38 pmSusan,
Can you tell me if Rove and Libby were entitled to secret CIA info? Isn't that a crime in itself? Or am I wrong?
October 16th, 2005 at 1:43 pmAnyone?
How high does this go? I mean it's hard to believe that Libby and Rove weren't acting under orders by their superiors cause (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) they don't have the security clearence. So I wonder if the question was asked who gave them the information and when.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:48 pmBush, Cheney, Rove, Delay and the grown man called "Scooter" et al ain't goin nowhere. America doesn't care. I wish it did but it doesn't. America has never heard of E85 for christ sake. Duck and cover. The only reason some Repubs are giving Bush a hard time now is for the re-election show and then back to business as usual. Tell me you all understand this. Only a small amount of America gives a shit and your the one reading this! By the way, we hit 8 trillion nation debt tonight(10/16). Just have as much sex as possible and forget about it until they outlaw that too.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:49 pmBrian, Rove & Libby signed a SF-312 agreement. Which means they were entitled to classified info. They could be charged with breaking this agreement.
Read the contents of the agreement.
October 16th, 2005 at 1:54 pmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_SF-312
I'll be surprised if they don't resign BEFORE they are indicted so Ken Melhman can tell people that "No one in this WH was ever indicted for outing a CIA agant."
October 16th, 2005 at 2:31 pmWell, judging by the non-action of the spineless mewling Democratic leadership, we can hardly expect indictments to go anywhere. Kerry's balls are hanging on a plaque in Blackwell's office, so we can count that insipid opportunist out of the action. Every time Conyers shows his conads, the rest of the leftie flock goes running for the woods. Hillary has balls, but she is going to need both of them to beat the Swift Boaters, O'reilly and Limbaugh, and the rest of their ilk, over the head with. Gore???? He's no dummy, he knows how dangerous the treasonous Bush Administration really is, and has made it clear he won't go at it with them face to face. Who's left?? Pelosi?? Never happen, she doesn't have the financial resources to take these facists on. Look folks, until we are IN THE STREETS, EN MASSE, we are cooked. Washington ain't gonna save us. They're THE PROBLEM, not the solution. They're gonna chew Fitzgerald up, and spit him out.
October 16th, 2005 at 2:36 pmPissed Off American, if you want to throw in the towel go for it. Me, I'm an American and will not. If Fitz comes up empty I'll see you in the street. Until then I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.
You may have noticed that "Republican" is a dirty word. The party is obsolete. Any democrat on the ballot will win any election and thats a fact.
October 16th, 2005 at 2:45 pmKenneth Demarest
I hear you brother Kenneth.
I can remember when even liberals as of late 2002 thought Bush "may" not invade Iraq. There are still plenty of democrats who think what is happening to our nation is "normal" or just the product of the free market of ideas. It is not, it is bought and paid for theocratic fascism. The Moon organization leading the way with billions.
What's even crazier is that I am not sure many even understand that this is going to get much worse. Right wing fiscal policies are based in the notion of not paying your bills. A trainwreck that is just around the corner and again, the world knows it.
We have at least half the politically minded in the country under a form of mind control. They block out or rationalize anything which goes against the cult of conservatism. They have leaders and people they accept information from who will lie to them and NOT care.
some of that here:
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/07/19/1410214&mode=thread&tid=25
We have a bigger national security problems than just a President who is in way over his head. I think the rest of the world sees it every time they hear us pushing for ID to be taught in the schools. The world knows we are going down due to the direction of leadership.
We are an Americanized theocracy in diapers.
October 16th, 2005 at 2:48 pm"Any democrat on the ballot will win any election and thats a fact."
Before or after the votes go through the Diebold machines?
October 16th, 2005 at 2:58 pmRove and libby on fronts for 2 other people who were also involved in the treasonous act of outing CIA deep undercover agent Valerie Plame. Staff pukes like Libby and Rove do not act on their own on something like this unless their immediate bosses had knowledge or participated. Their immediate bosses are Bush and Cheney. The evidence is there to indict both. Will Fitzgerald, the Republican, have the courage and integrity to indict Bush and Cheney?
October 16th, 2005 at 2:59 pmNot getting your point pahoo. The majority of Americans are aware of the disaster America has become. There's only small portion of freaks that are in denial, the rest are paid to be in denial.
October 16th, 2005 at 3:01 pmPissed Off, there are no Diebold machines in my state. Any state that uses them will be scrutinized.
Remember, Diebold only worked for Bushie because the race was close. There will be no close races. The pug party is obsolete.

October 16th, 2005 at 3:06 pm"Pissed Off, there are no Diebold machines in my state. Any state that uses them will be scrutinized."
Like Ohio was "scrutinized"??? Like the DSM was "scrutinized"?? Like Gonzales's lies where "scrutinized"? Like GannnonGate was "scrutinized"? Like rendition has been "scrutinized"? The list of "scrutinies" goes on, ad infinitum, and ad nauseum. Tell, me, Susan, who do you expect to "scrutinize" our next election? The crooks on the left. or the crooks on the right?
Your optimism is refreshing, although, sadly, naive.
Get angry, and try to make it contagious. It is our only avenue. The sooner the better. If these lying SOBs impose a "red Alert" on us, they will have beat us to the punch. And believe me, thats EXACTLY what they intend to do. A "Trifecta" worked once for them, and they have spent the winnings. Do you honestly think they will not refill the pot?
October 16th, 2005 at 3:17 pmWill Rove and Libby be working behind the scenes like Delay.and the rest of the bunch.Where are the Democrates at. Dean needs to give them some spines I get so discoraged at them at times.
October 16th, 2005 at 4:22 pmSusan, until the democrats lose the gun control issue the Charlton Heston faction will vote Republican because having their guns is more important than putting war criminals in jail. As far as I am concerned the democrats don't deserve support either. How many voted away their constitutional right to declare war and handed it to baby Bush.. We need Instant Runoff Voting so we can vote for third party candidates and not throw our votes away. But it aint gonna happen because the two major parties like their monopoly. ....The truth is not a liberal bias!
October 16th, 2005 at 4:26 pmRepublicans hate prosecutors.
Republicans hate trial lawyers.
Republicans hate judges.
Not much room to work with there.
October 16th, 2005 at 4:37 pm#4 As a resident of a Chicago collar county I can say for sure that the pug party is losing ground. Kerry won 44% in my county (highest ever for Dem). If the election were held today Kerry would have won my county.
Hastert resides in my county and this decline of Pug support will definately take him out of office. Hip, hip, horray!
October 16th, 2005 at 4:37 pmBill Rice and others, you are not getting my point. THE PUG PARTY IS OBSOLETE! If a skunk runs against a pug the skunk will win. Not naive, realistic.
Additionally, I would like to see Donald Trump run as an Independant. He has the money. He could easily win.
October 16th, 2005 at 4:42 pmSusan,
It isn't just diebold, Triad machines are also part of the problem. Make sure your state doesn't use them! They haven't gotten the publicity of Diebold, but their machines are equally insecure and involved in the 2004 election fraud.
Tod Rapp (the owner of Triad) is part of the reichwing lunatic fringe of the republican party. They helped throw the Ohio election.
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/121604Z.shtml
October 16th, 2005 at 5:33 pmThe key is to get those machines REMOVED before the election. If your county or state is one of the places where electronic (non-receipt) or electronic 'tally machines' without audit trails are used, then you MUST get involved in a lawsuit to block their usage. The DNC SHOULD do this, and if you're involved in the local DNC organization, bitch to the representatives until they act!
Some states like California have blocked Diebold and all electronic machines that don't print audit trails and audit receipts for the voter. This should be the model for all other states!
I have no problem with electronic voting machines, but there is NO excuse for the machines to not print an audit trail with an audit code (voter receipt id) that can be correlated. And the voter should be able to SEE the printed audit record for themselves. Electronic information is too easily corrupted, especially when you use a non-authenticated, and non-audited system like Diebold machines are based on. Bradblog PROVED that a programmer with basic skills could easily write a program to 'flip' the final results in a vote, and could do so without leaving any record or trail of the act. Clearly this is NOT a secure or reliable system, and unless republicans ARE using this system to steal their votes, they won't have a problem with the audit. But since it's clear that they ARE STEALING THE ELECTIONS, we hear them resist the requirements nationwide! Theives and liars, one and all!
October 16th, 2005 at 5:40 pmBut they still allow the optical scanner machines, that have the same security issues. And it isn't "Bradblog" that proved the insecurity of the machines, it is Bev Harris, and her people, at http://WWW.BLACKBOXVOTING.ORG. But again, absent the involvement of the leadership of the Democratic Party, even the stolen election issue becomes another buried story. Just look at how the damned cowards deserted Conyers when he tried to pursue the issue. The same money, much of it coming from AIPAC, backs the criminals in BOTH parties. It is rumored that the Dem leadership was absent from the Washington anti-war protests because of the threat of retaliation from AIPAC. As a PEOPLE, we need to drop our party lotyalties and speak out in ONE VOICE as Americans, before these bastards decide the correct course is to murder a few hundred thousand of us in a staged op, collect the "political capital", and further strengthen their efforts at turning our nation into another third world gulag of slave labor feeding the needs of the global elite.

October 16th, 2005 at 7:57 pmRyan, I heard the interview on Bradblog. Hopefully the programmer will become a public figure. Illinois still uses paper ballots. Maybe thats why it's a blue state.
I'm with ya Pissed Off. I've told my reps and Senators that if they do not demand impeachment hearings they will not get my vote again. I will vote for an independent and waste my vote if I have to.
Speaking on behalf of Illinois, the pug party is obsolete. Even our pug counties are turning blue.
What we need is a strong independent. I nominate Donald Trump.

I know this is awfully "un-PC" but can't we just take the lot out them out into a field and shoot them?
October 17th, 2005 at 8:20 am1.) The rethugs are so evil and immoral, that a cockroach could beat them in a fair election.
2.) We haven't had a fair and/or fairly counted election since 2000.
3.) It's up to We The People, not the Dems to make sure our votes are accurately counted.
We need an updated version of the Boston Tea Party.
We build effigies of these crooked voting machines, have literature ready to hand out, parade them through our local communities and drown them.
We also need to find out if we as citizens can legally demand recounts if exit polls do not match the "vote count" and follow through on whatever actions need to be taken.
We nned to stop expecting and/or waiting for someone from the Dem party to "lead" us and and start taking our own actions to get back our country.
October 17th, 2005 at 11:33 amDear Friends,
October 17th, 2005 at 11:45 amDeveloping clarity in regards to current socio-political events requires a sober analysis of the three times. In order to come to grips with the challenge(s) we have as keepers of the momentum of the human struggle to continue to grow our peraonal and collelctive understanding of our amazing world, we need to live and breath an almost poetic sense of the incredible now and hereness of our individual, family, and community lives. In order to fight effectively for a world in which we are able to develop to our utmost potential as caretakers of each other and or our magnificent earth we need to have some foundational goals on which to stand. Developing the picture of where we need to go depends on an up to date understanding, which requires a vibrant and friendly self vigilance, of where we are now. And, of course, the only way to know where we are now is to appreciate how we came to be here. But, although it is crucial not to leave out any step in the process of appreciating the who what when where how and why of past-present-future, the most important aspect of our political involvement is to activate our understanding of the historical process by energetically manifesting our committment to creating a world that establishes and maintains an optimum and egalitarian environment for all.
Understanding what's real now, how we got to where we are, and
where we need to go is not a casual undertaking. By focusing on what is needed to effect change in the direction(s) you want our society to explore means working, alone and together, to organize for real results in real situations. Whenever and wherever you see what needs to be done; do it. From the small, perhaps a neighborhood speed bump or stop sign, to the large, say effective, clean, safe, free, quiet, and fun mass transportation for our urban areas, get involved. From conserving on your own by waling to the store to establishing a future that includes an amazing nationwide rail system, work for a real result. For changing local conditions that lead to domestic abuse, build a network of support and treatment for all parties involved and get the ongoing medical, educational, child care, and employment parts of the problem into focus. For estalbishing conditions that eliminate international conflict the same rules apply; work on every part of the problem, from the micro to the macro economic conditions that need changing to fighting those who would justify violence, torture, economic deprivation as a means to consolidate their paranoid vision.
Be practical, don't give up, and most important; don't let the liars, murders, ideologial/theological crackpots, and outright corporate crooks steal your juice. Have fun living a life that is based on what's real.
kr and gb and the rest of the gang are chickenfeed lightweights. They are front men for the house of cards which is corporate America. There is only one force that can counteract the morphing of the democratic process into a fascist government/corporate culture and that's us. There is only one force that can establish and maintain a sane system of socio/ecnomic/political relationships on a local, state, natinal, and international level and that's us. The people of the United States of America have it within their power to get control over our own destiny. In fact, is is the people more than any other force that the powerful fear. That's us folks. Focus, Organize, and Unite. Have fun and don't let the lightweights steal your thunder or your love or your sense of humor or your compassion or your poetry or your freedom or your sense of beauty or your passion or your art or your open questioning and inquiring minds and bodies. Share yourselves with the world. Realize the sadness that knows you are not here forever and love and act now.
PS Put war criminals like osama and gw and saddam and rumsfeld and cheney etc to work cleaning the latrine at the NYT's. Perhaps we could get some good news instead of double and triple misinformation.
PPS Senator Byrd needs our help.
