Well, let’s hope that he will be convicted and put behind bars. And for those who believe Bush will Pardon him, he can’t.
Here is what the law says about that:
Sec. 1.2 Eligibility for filing petition for pardon.
No petition for pardon should be filed until the expiration of a waiting period of at least five years after the date of the release of the petitioner from confinement or, in case no prison sentence was imposed, until the expiration of a period of at least five years after the date of the conviction of the petitioner. Generally, no petition should be submitted by a person who is on probation, parole, or supervised release.
So since by law you have to file for a pardon, he should not be eligible for pardon by Bush. However, we all know that this administration may find a way to get around this small legal issue.

Most foreign countries not only despise this administration - but they believe us to be inept because of Ms. Rice. Furthermore, for those who are not certain about the process, Amendment 25, Section 2 of the COnstitution says, “Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.” So it’s not just the Senate, but let’s not be so naive as to think that either House will reject anyone the President nominates. Hell, he could change his mind and nominate Harriet Miers to replace Cheney and they would still confirm her. Especially since it wouldn’t be a lifetime appointment.

The noncomp contracts that have been thrown their way since bush43 came into office certainly hasn’t hurt their bottom line. It’s by that financial fact that I see a linkage between continued prosperity of the Vice Presidents previous employer.

It’s true. The Halliburton options have been assigned to charity by Cheney. It’s still unethical to hold direct financial ties in a company you direct work towards, even if you intend to give the proceeds to charity eventually. If you want to have a wing a university named after you, you might still have incentive to direct more business to the company than it deserves - that’s part of why the conflict of interest rules exist.
The Congressional Research Service (CRS) concluded in Sept. 2003 that holding stock options while in elective office does constitute a “financial interest†regardless of whether the holder of the options will donate proceeds to charities. CRS also found that receiving deferred compensation is a financial interest.
Cheney told “Meet the Press” in 2003 that he didn’t have any financial ties to the firm.

That is true. I hadn’t thought about the “wing-naming” aspect of it. Hell, for all we know, the slime bucket may have cut a separate deal (not shown to FactCheck) that says they’ll give the money back to him somehow. No proof of that, but I wouldn’t put it past him to find a way around the law, like he did when his company did business with countries that supported terrorism in violation of US law.
But then, when did obeying the law mean anything to these people? They gave money to Armstrong Williams in violation of the law, and now they want it back! That one’s a hoot.

Bartlett didn’t really pick his own new Veep. He wanted Secretary of State Berryhill but Speaker Hadley said he couldn’t do it and gave Bartlett a list of names they could confirm. No chance of that scenario happening since the GayOldParty controls the WH and both Houses. And there is no chance in hell that Rice would get the nod. Way too controversial and the Republicans know that it would mean their demise in 2006 if they even tried.

In fact, you can trace this back to the time when John Kerry was courting McCain for his VP and all of a sudden, McCain began appearing at Bush’s side, saying nice Bushie things, etc. It is my belief that he was offered this opportunity then - and, as the shit is hitting the fan now, it makes it even more of a possibility. Like Reagan did to quell the Iran-Contra Affair criticism (by basically cleaning house), Bush can do the same thing, especially by bringing in Mr Goodie 2Shoes, John McCain. Yes, there will be corporate complaining and right wing complaining, but winks and nods will abound.
