Last night on Hardball, Chris Matthews and Newsweek chief political correspondent Howard Fineman discussed the New York Daily News report alleging that the special prosecutor is considering wide-ranging conspiracy charges in the CIA leak probe:
Cheney’s name has come up amid indications Fitzgerald may be edging closer to a blockbuster conspiracy charge – with help from a secret snitch.
“They have got a senior cooperating witness – someone who is giving them all of that,” a source who has been questioned in the leak probe told the Daily News yesterday.
The accuracy of the Daily News report is still unknown. But if Fitzgerald does bring forward conspiracy charges, Fineman says, Cheney will be in the crosshairs:
MATTHEWS: If it’s a grand conspiracy hatched in the vice president‘s office, how does he even logically exclude the top guy?
FINEMAN: Well, he probably can’t, which is why he is being very, very careful here.
O NOES!

October 19th, 2005 at 7:16 pmThis is what hung ‘em. Rove’s liitle one liner to Cooper…
Ruh roh Raggie! Rassified information! Ri’m in RUBBLE!! HEHEHEHEHEHEHE
October 19th, 2005 at 7:19 pmThey aint no doubt about it. Cheney is involved in this up to his eyeballs. For that matter, so is George W. Bush, current King of the US.
Not only did the shrub lie to the special prosecutor, he lied repeatedly to the amurkin people.
October 19th, 2005 at 7:30 pm#5 BUSHIE AND CHENEY WAS NOT UNDER OATH WHEN THEY ASK THEM QUESTIONS. WE ALL KNOW THEY LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND TO FITZ.
October 19th, 2005 at 7:38 pmPlease someone correct me if I’m wrong on this, but I don’t think Cheney has given any sworn testimony.
Could that protect him from a perjury charge?
And nobody that I know of has said that Cheney told them about Plame, so that should get him out of a charge related to the leak.
So we are pretty much down to conspiracy, which is an easy charge to make but tough to prove. God only knows how tough when the defendant (I love saying that) is the Vice President.
As much as I’d love to see it, I’m skeptical we’ll see Cheney charged.

October 19th, 2005 at 7:40 pmmary poppin – are you that excitable?!? please turn off your caps lock key and stop YELLING !!! thank you….
October 19th, 2005 at 7:40 pmI think if these indictments come through, it will really change my perspective on all republicans. I will no longer be able to trust them with matters of national security or their ability to govern.
I think I’m going to give up and start voting as an Independent and maybe back Biden in ‘08. You guys were right all along, the Bush family is just terrible at everything and Kerry would have done much better.
Sorry for being such a complete idiot, I owe all of you a real apology. I was blinded by all the partisan rhetoric and drug-induced Rush Limbaugh / Sean Hannity polemics.
Joe Biden in 2008! Who’s with me?
October 19th, 2005 at 7:45 pm#8 IF I WANT TO USE ALL CAPS I WILL. WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO.
October 19th, 2005 at 7:46 pmCOUNT ONE: THE COMMON PLAN OR CONSPIRACY
III. Statement of the Offense
All the defendants, with divers other persons, participated as leaders, organizers, instigators, or accomplices in the formulation or execution of a common plan or conspiracy to commit, or which involved the commission of, Crimes against Peace, War Crimes, and Crimes against Humanity, as defined in the Charter of this Tribunal, and, in accordance with the provisions of the Charter, are individually responsible for their own acts and for all acts committed by any persons in the execution of such plan or conspiracy. The common plan or conspiracy embraced the commission of Crimes against Peace, in that the defendants planned, prepared, initiated, and waged wars of aggression, which were also wars in violation of international treaties, agreements, or assurances.

October 19th, 2005 at 7:48 pm#9 NED ARE YOU FOR REAL OR JUST PULLING OUR LEG? YOU HAVE BEEN VERY RUDED. IF THERE IS A CHANGE OF HEART GOOD FOR YOU.
October 19th, 2005 at 7:57 pmNope, I don’t think that’s NED. NED will go postal before he writes something like that… Besides, Joe Biden’s speechwriter used to be EU trade commissioner
October 19th, 2005 at 7:59 pmMatthews just stated that the Democrats were absent from challeneging the intell before the war.
Does anybody remember that after 911 Bush removed all the security clearances and only 8 senators and house leaders were in the know about the intell from our intell services?
If you are feed lies are you do you know anyu more than those lies?
October 19th, 2005 at 8:01 pmWhy doesn’t Fitz simply question Cheney under oath? Dick would either have to commit perjury or admit his involvement. Either outcome would be acceptable to me!
October 19th, 2005 at 8:12 pm#6, Mary Poppin,
October 19th, 2005 at 8:20 pmWe all became even more suspicious when we learned they would speak to the prosecutor ONLY if they did not take an oath.
#14, EasyRider, I DO remember that there was a select group who were allowed to hear all the “intelligence” as was purportedly known at the time, and that group was then sent off to report to the rest of Congress.
October 19th, 2005 at 8:30 pmI am really tired of Repubs saying the Dems and the world had the same “intel” and were all in agreement — no one seems to remember that the “intel” we were all fed was “sexed up” (to use the British phrase) — cherry-picked to suit the predetermined plan — and other nations which had their own intel were in disagreement with the US, but they were shouted down by the omnipotent USofA, and accepted the inevitable.
Marie It was kind of odd that Bushie and Cheney did not have to answer questions under oath. I hope Fitzgerald can still get them. We don’t know what will happen in the future.
October 19th, 2005 at 8:36 pmwhoops, that extraneous WED shouldn’t be there.

October 19th, 2005 at 9:06 pmSo, Whom be the Secret Snitch?
Perchance Jeff Gannon?
Hmm, then there is that Bush Monica moment…

A dog and pony show. Bush and his admin. are guilty of far worse. 911 was a inside job and for that they should be hung in public. But this would not change anything the reality is these people are like shit paper in the bird cage. Pull it out and install a new one. “The few who understand the system will either be so interested in its profit, or so dependent on its favors, that there will be no opposition from that class. The great body of people , mentally incapable of comprehending, will bear its burden without complaint, and perhaps without even suspecting that the system is inimical to their interests” Rothschild.
October 20th, 2005 at 12:39 amYou don’t have to testify before a grand jury to be indicted. Fitz probably has a strong enough case against Cheney without his testimony.
I’m sure Libby has been very helpful in sending Dicky down the river without a paddle.
October 20th, 2005 at 12:40 amNED or whoever,
Considering Biden caved in to his credit card industries who most have their P.O. Boxes on his block and subsequently voted for the bankruptcy bill that’s going to put the hurt even more on the lower and middle class, Biden is one big bag of hot air that I will most certainly not be supporting. I guess we could do worse, like Joe “I love the National Review” Lieberman, but that’s really not what we’re shooting for in ‘08.

October 20th, 2005 at 9:41 amObstruction for scuttlebutt.
Conda-sleeza & dragon-breath: unindicted co-conspirators.
To Northeast Dilemma:
Biden isn’t worth a vote. He voted for the bankruptcy bill (being from credit card central state). He’s flip-flopped on all the Iraq issue more times than I can count. If you want somebody who saw through the fog go for Russ Feingold the lone Senator to vote against the Patriot Act because he was unable to read his copy of it (since it was quarantined in the Senate office building). He also voted against the Iraq war and against NAFTA and CAFTA. Rep. John Conyers is another truth seeker who has consistently held BushCo’s activities up to scrutiny.
October 20th, 2005 at 10:15 amI would like to see Joseph Wilson step into the ring.
October 20th, 2005 at 11:22 amJoe Wilson, that’s pretty clever. He’s not a career politician, nor is he a lawyer. People like to vote for “one from us” just as shown during the Clinton years. Clinton understood average America and wasn’t hard on the eyes.
So where is Wilson from? His running for anything always depends on his statehood. If he is from a southern state, then he is halfway there.
Who wouldn’t like someone who tried to save their children’s lives? If Wilson would have found WMDs than that is what he would have reported. He fully expected them there. He was shocked as we are now, finally.
Upon further review, I like him. He’s ballsy without being loud. Yes, I like him alot. Good thinking, Frisko.
October 20th, 2005 at 11:31 amMarie,
That was someone ‘pretending’ to be NED Miss Dead in the head. It was kind of funny, but it wasn’t NED. Although I have to say I agree with your assessment of Biden – he’s hardly leadership material!

October 28th, 2005 at 3:27 pm#4 – thanks for the laugh, and I mean laughing my butt off everytime I see the word “Amurkin”. I can’t just see that termite saying the word, and then smirking about having said something with more than one vowel.
