In the run-up to war, the right-wing went all out to smear Joe Wilson in a desperate attempt to convince the American people that Saddam Hussein possessed WMD.
While most people have given-up on the WMD argument, Bill O’Reilly is still hard at work.
On Fox News last night, he invited on a so-called “knowledgeable expert on Saddam” who told O’Reilly that the WMD were moved across the Iraq border into Syria:
But back in April 2005, Charles Duelfer released a 92-page addendum to his earlier report on Iraq’s pre-war WMD capabilities. The addendum debunked the claim that Saddam transported his WMD to Syria before the war started. The New York Times reported:
On Syria, the report said that “no information gleaned from questioning Iraqis supported the possibility” that weapons were moved out of the country before the invasion, which was one theory about why no unconventional weapons were found.
Transcript below:
O’REILLY: I got one more fast question. I was looking over your book.
COUGHLIN: Yes.
O’REILLY: And do you still maintain that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction? Do you still believe that?
COUGHLIN: Yes. Look, Bill, I mean, I’ve spoken – I’ve been to Iraq several times since the war. I’ve spoken to lots of intelligence people in America and the U.K.
Now I’ve seen all the reports. I’ve seen congressional reports, British reports, the ISJ Report. But you talk to people in the intelligence community. You talk to people in Baghdad and the government. They have no doubt that before the war, Saddam had active WMD.
Now we’re not talking massive stockpiles, but he had them. And because of what he suddenly realized in the fall of 2002, that a war was coming. And so he got rid of the active ingredients.
O’REILLY: He did a good job.
COUGHLIN: He retained the infrastructure.
O’REILLY: He did a good job.
COUGHLIN: He did a very good job.
O’REILLY: Yes.
COUGHLIN: And I just feel that, you know, if people would put more effort into this, you know, we’d get to the truth, particularly go to Syria…
O’REILLY: That would turn everything around if they could find out what happened to those WMDs.
Great. Another war. Which reservists are we going to send to fight this one?
October 20th, 2005 at 2:02 pmIf this keeps up the Republicans may run Georgie out themselves. Ok, I live in a dream world…
October 20th, 2005 at 2:07 pmSo, O’Lielly has orders to push a war with Syria, huh?
October 20th, 2005 at 2:08 pmThat’s what I get out of it.
Heh, it’s a great plot. Pretend there are weapons, and continue to pretend that they’ve moved to every country you hate. It’s a justification for unlimited war based on unproven evidence. Goebbels and the 3rd reich would be proud of our new little hitlers.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:10 pmHere we go again, repetition of familiar talking points (been listening to Condi lately ?) for another war w/ no evidence to support one.
They’re really getting desperate now needing a war to push all the criminal indictments off the front page.
Great opportunity to call everyone who doesn’t support our War President a traitor too.
Oh, did I mention that O’Lielly’s ratings are down and need a boost ?
October 20th, 2005 at 2:13 pmWhy doesn’t the Bush administration just pluck one of their accused terrorists out of Gitmo and have O’Lielly execute him live on his program? And if it turns out the poor guy had no ties to terrorism after all, O’Lielly can just say, “Well, he was a pinhead anyway.”
October 20th, 2005 at 2:18 pmI assume our wars will move along countries which are next to each other. Which border each other. And near the end of each war, the Republicans will say the WMD have moved over into the next country and now we must invade them. Soon we will see a trail of where we’ve gone through.
The WMDs will always be ‘moved’ to the next place we want to start a war with.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:20 pm#7 You’re right. Next, the WMD will have mysteriously ‘moved’ to North Korea.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:22 pmactually #7 is the only probable place we would actually find WMD.
What about France? They have nukes! Along with Britain, Israel, Russia… And didn’t the Brazilians start a nuke program?
Here’s an idea…
Let’s re-instate the draft, swell the ranks of the army up by 10 million soldiers, cut all goverment programs but defense and attack everyone, everywhere.
Don’t like it? You’re a commie pinko. Why do you hate our freedom?
That’s what the repugnicants will say! Anybody who isn’t for total global anhilation is a pinko liberal baby and should move to canada. Oy.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:26 pm#7
Sounds like a real live version of Risk. The problem is that these guys have never played Risk, so they don’t understand that you don’t go on the offensive until you have built up your armys over a couple of turns. It is like attacking an ajoining country with a 2 piece when you need a 5 piece.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:27 pmThe tooth fair took them. Her and tinkerbell are holding out for the highest bidder.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:28 pmRummy and Dumbo will have no trouble finding troops to fight the WMD in Syria. They will get them the same way they did the last time. Just move the troops from Iraq to Syria. After bushco steals all the Syrian oil Condum Rice can leak that they have conclusive evidence that Syria moved the WMD to Iran and here we go again. It does remind one of a stupid plot on some second rate Soap.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:32 pmGive it up O’liely. The American people aren’t buying your trumped up BS anymore.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:33 pmWhere did Hitler start? Poland, then swept west?
October 20th, 2005 at 2:34 pmRisk, yes it is rather like that game.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:36 pmI haven’t played in a long time, but I
was always amazed at how the “tie roll”
advantage to the defender would eat into
attacking armies.
Any day now, we’ll see on Fox News the bodies of some poor stiffs pulled from Abu Ghraib and dressed in Syrian Army uniforms lying in bloodstained heaps just inside the Iraqi border….
October 20th, 2005 at 2:37 pm…carrying a spray can filled with anthrax.
Speculation? Sure…
October 20th, 2005 at 2:39 pmThe military has been inside Iran and Syria for about a year or more now to exploit their citizens. bush/rice/rumsfeld need an excuse to brain wash American Citizens to support their( broad base war on terror)grab for oil and natural gas. Syria will be given to Israel, The book title ,Behind The War On Terror explains all the steps that bush is taking its like a blue print.American troops are in South America now creating havoc so bush can start a 4th war on terror (oil gas). This will not stop until congress impeaches these fools.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:40 pmOff point here, sorry. Does any one here remember the names of the couple that were executed for being spies, years ago.? I forgot..Back on point, these cancerious right wing nut jobs are going to march all over the world except where Ben Lauden, Prince Bandar Bush, the Saudi prince and Israe’s are. Even we peons here are under threat, get it yet.? It’s been this way for 5+years. We don’t count only if there is oil under the property we want to protect. Then their job is to get us off that land and go after the oil and power. Cut it, kill it and drill it has been the ajenda since before Bushes election. Nothing matters to that end, not enviroment, most certainly not the people and never the constitution or civil rights…..We the people are at war, one we didn’t start and one we may not win if we don’t act quickly and stand together. Impeach, Indict, put in prison, what ever it takes. These are not the old conservatives of old who had reason and good thought’s, this is the Nazis we are up against……Blessings
October 20th, 2005 at 2:57 pmThe WMDs were moved while we were drawing up plans for “protecting” the oil fields for the future prosperity of Iraq.
October 20th, 2005 at 2:58 pmThat same guy was on Chris Mathews on Sunday saying that all major intelligence agencies have agreed that Iraq really was trying to buy yellow cake from Niger. Who the hell is this guy and where does he get his info. What an assclown!
October 20th, 2005 at 2:59 pmThis is a riot. Isn’t the big O up for another sexual harrassment suit? I guess they have to take the weapons position in the end because otherwise they would have to admit a mistake at some point.
And after all, they can play the perpetual war, wmd shell game and just keep attacking wherever the weapons are reported to be, like Ryan says.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:02 pmI think the Spies were Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Sharon.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:07 pmThank you liberal elite, now that you said their names I remember. Long term memory loss……Blessings
October 20th, 2005 at 3:11 pmAnd didn’t the Rosenbergs get cleared after their deaths? I may be wrong… if so, too late for them.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:13 pmNot something they taught in the public school system.
Now, if the war proves to be started by traitors, and these guys were all willing propogandists for said war, what punishment is official for propogandists? Picture O’Lielly with his head shaved being stoned in the streets – sweet!
PS: I was formerly Sara, but there is another one posting now, so I am changing my screen name to SKdeA in case anyone cares.
O’Lielly is shilling for the Bushies again — this time he wants to be the one who brought in the “expert” who claims that Syria has nukes and other weapons smuggled in from Iraq. Rice was just talking about all options being on the table regarding Iraq, others in the administration are hinting at a war in Syria; there have been special ops excursions into Syria in a bold (and illegal) effort to instigate an attack on us by Syrian forces — this is like the months (maybe a year) of our pre-invasion attacks on Iraq with bombs and strafing attacks.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:15 pmAs Yogi Berra once redundantly said said, “It’s de ja vu, all over again.”
Oh, God. O’Reilly’s beating this debunked, unrecognizable dead horse?
October 20th, 2005 at 3:26 pmDoesn’t O’Lielly think that if Hussein would have shipped WMD into Syria, our surveillance planes would have noticed, since we were all over the country?
October 20th, 2005 at 3:28 pmHe did have weapons left over from the sales Rumsfeld made to him in the late 1980’s, but they were mostly destroyed by weapons inspectors in the mid-90’s. Any chemcial weapons remaining had become inert.
Where does B.O. get these geeks, and how much are they paid?
Rumsfeld has said that this war in Iraq is the beginning of perpetual war, and I see they are keeping his words.
re – the roseburgs. Well, yes & no. There were/are folks trying to get them cleared, and have made claims that they were set up or evidence was made up. But I don’t think that view has passed any peer review yet.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:30 pmFunny thing is that if the war on terror was not just a smoke and mirrors lusty grab at power, Syria would be an excellent ally. They are a secular government, they strongly oppose radical islamists. Yea they need to clean up the democracy stuff, but the US has routinely demonstrated that we play nice with dictators and elected governments equally when they are in our interests.
Attacking Syria is pointless, they are the one country in the Mid East with no oil, nothing much in the way of natural resources. Not to mention the fact that the army is falling apart as it is.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:42 pmPox news reports o’liely has quit to go look for WMD’s in Kansas.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:45 pmAfter we invade Syria, the wing-nuts will be saying Saddam’s WMD were moved from Syria to Iran before we invaded. So after we turn Syria into a mess, on to Iran!
October 20th, 2005 at 3:58 pmGeorge Bush looked under his desk and there NO WMDs… what is O’Rileup prattling on about?
October 20th, 2005 at 4:09 pmWhaaaaaaaaaaaaat???????? How can Bill Odd’Righty still be pushing the WMD non-issue??????????????????? HAHAHA.
October 20th, 2005 at 4:33 pmMy uncle still believes that Iraq had WMDs. His only reason for believing it (besides watching too much FOXnews):
A stockpile of gasmasks were found.
That’s it. His reasoning is “Why would they have all those gasmasks if they didn’t have WMD’s?”
He also believes Global Warming is a myth. Everytime I try to have a discussion with him about these things, all he does is quote bible verses. He’s never given me any cold evidence about anything besides the “stockpile of gasmasks.”
blah, I’m glad I dont take after my family.
October 20th, 2005 at 4:51 pmThomas,
Remind him that the Iraq and Iran conflict involved chemical weapons, and that Donald Rumsfeld had actually sold him the weapons know how – but that the international weapons inspectors had destroyed all of the weapons after the first war. Remind him that while they had destroyed the weapons, the masks WE SOLD THEM, were not part of the destroyed inventory.
In otherwords, his conclusion is based on not understanding Iraq’s history, and not related to the state of Iraq at the point of the invasion.
But then again if all he can do is quote a book that believes the world is flat and 8000 years old, there’s probably very little hope for him.
October 20th, 2005 at 5:06 pmMe thinks Bill O’notReally gets his info from that Wacko Republican Conspiracy Website of Farah.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/
The National Enquirer looks like it has some new competition.
October 20th, 2005 at 5:08 pm#26 – They were guilty, but so were a number of scientists/others working on the Manhatten Project. So the question is, why the big focus on getting the Rosenbergs the electric chair?
My take is they were unimportant thus expendable, and their execution would release some of the anger the American public had over the spy scandal.
Scapegoats…
October 20th, 2005 at 6:27 pmGot Oil?……………… Then you must have WMD’s
October 20th, 2005 at 6:42 pmYou LIBERALS are SO Stuck on Stupid….Anyone for a real debate? Not slogans, but ideas…Bet you have none!!!!
October 20th, 2005 at 7:07 pmJon,
You’d be wrong. How about some of the following.
Put the billions of oil money tax credits into alternative fuels subsidies and research.
How about a Single payer health care system – GM says our health care system adds 1000 per car because the japanese have a BUSINESS ADVANTAGE with a federal health system.
How about MAKING the israelis and palestinians partition their state as per the UN RESOLUTION THAT REQUIRES IT. This adminstration makes a big deal about saddam not following a resolution and thereby destablizing the region, and yet Israel does not comply and DOES destabilize the region.
How about realizing that not only global warming is real, but that it’s COSTING US BILLIONS because our inept republicans won’t deal with it.
How about realizing that our education system IS our future and our security, and dismantling it so private and religious ’schools’ can either make money or indoctrinate madrasas of morons is BAD for business and bad for america.
How about actually realizing that tax on the rich isn’t a crime – after all, they’re rich – they can afford it! Plus raising taxes on the wealthy has produced the 3 largest booms in american history! Whereas cutting their taxes have caused the two largest crashes!
I can go on and on, but Jon, my guess is you prefer to live in a delusional world that only cares about fags and abortions and doesn’t actually worry about the disentigration of civil rights or democracy. So run along and pretend like you’re smart, because clearly you’re not ready to have a REAL debate about the REAL issues!
October 20th, 2005 at 7:50 pmRyan-Pick ANY one or two from your ‘list of slogans’, and I’ll be happy to have a REAL DEBATE.
October 20th, 2005 at 8:15 pmUntil then….Stay Stuck on Stupid!
I gave you a picklist, and you’re too stupid to pick one? Now who’s the stupid idiot? You said we had nothing, I showed you to be a liar. Now you also appear to have earned the title of coward!
October 20th, 2005 at 9:43 pmThese guys seem to think smuggling the weapons into Syria could have been done by loading them in the back of a Chevy and making for the border. Given the numbers of weapons they supposedly had, it would have taken a long convoy of trucks, all while we were watching their every move.
When you make excuses, they should at least make sense.
October 20th, 2005 at 9:55 pmRyan, I let YOU pick, so you can have an advantage. So, for the last time, do you want to pick any one of your “debating points” to have a REAL DEBATE.
Until then….Sorry, you are Still Stuck on Stupid.
(typical for a LIBERAL)
Anyone else? Ryan is STUCK.
October 20th, 2005 at 10:46 pm“You LIBERALS are SO Stuck on Stupid….Anyone for a real debate? Not slogans, but ideas…Bet you have none!!!!
Comment by jon — October 20, 2005 @ 7:07 pm”
Translation: NANNY-NANNY-BOO-BOO! YOU ARE A DOODIE-HEAD! I KNOW YOU ARE, BUT WHAT AM I?
You ignorant waste of flesh. Go suck on the business end of an Uzi.
October 20th, 2005 at 11:23 pmI rest my case, and depart this moronic bunch….
October 21st, 2005 at 12:20 amSTUCK ON STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LIBERALS…HA!
Joe Wilson was smeared after the Iraq War has started, not during “run-up to war.:
The Iraq War started in March 2003.
Joe Wilson’s essay critical of the rationale was published in July 2003.
October 21st, 2005 at 12:30 amHey, Jon. I’m a registered Republican who’s never voted Democrat in my life. SO WHAT THE FU¢K IS YOUR EXCUSE NOW? THE REASON WHY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS IN TROUBLE NOW IS BECAUSE OF MINDLESS LEG-HUMPERS LIKE YOURSELF. Stupid fu¢king predictable jackass.
October 21st, 2005 at 12:36 am“Anyone for a real debate? Not slogans, but ideas…Bet you have none!!!!”
I gave you several. I proved you wrong. You’re a MORON!

October 21st, 2005 at 1:17 amQuestion to Bil O’Reilly:
October 21st, 2005 at 5:43 amIf Hussein had, as Bush said, WMDs and was an IMMINENT threat to the American People and if this threat was in fact so imminent that Hussein could, according to BLair, attack England within 45 minutes – then why on earth would he get those WMDs out of the country and not use it on the US Military when they invaded Iraq?????
Would love to here this a**hole’s answer on this one. *g*
Next, he will be touting bleeding to get out the bad humors in one’s blood. It’s hard to believe he’s real.
October 21st, 2005 at 11:01 amI love to watch these morons make fools out of themselves, by continuing to say Iraq had WMD. We’ve been seaching high and low to find them and haven’t found one ounce yet. Also think about it, if there were any WMD wouldn’t the terrorist there have found them and used them on our troops? Because if we don’t have them, then the terrorist must be hiding them from us right. Because they (terrorist) control part of the Country and we control the other parts.
Even after everyone who knows anything about WMD has agree Sadam didn’t have them these pinheads continue to beat a dead horse. Give it up, conservatives, we know the truth now and no amount of spin will make WMD come out of thin air. I am glad they got Sadam, we should have gotten him in the first Gulf War. But I’m not going to sit here and by the bull because some people (conservatives) can’t admit mistakes. They make me sick with their blame Clinton and liberals for their mistakes attitudes.
Rush Limbaugh sits there and talks about his fellow Americans (So called Liberals) like they were terrorists, and then claims they always attack conservatives. That’s like a fat man saying a skinny man eats too much. They attack anyone who disagrees worse the Joe McCarthy ever did. They claim Liberals hate America, but the truth is they (conservatives) love American, but hate Americans. I’ve never seen Sean Hanity or Rush Limbaugh ever say a good thing about any so called liberal. They forget we are all on the same side. The terrorists didn’t seperate Liberals and Conservative on 9-11, they attacked American regardless of what they believe. Rush and Sean are filled with so much HATE they probably don’t even like themselves.
October 21st, 2005 at 3:25 pmhttp://www.rotten.com/library/bio/entertainers/pundits/bill-oreilly/
shows what a charlatan O’Reilly is. Bill has already admitted that he was duped by Bush. Now, he has to keep working on the cultists on the right and non-thinkers wherever he can find them.
He is a sorry excuse for a man.
October 21st, 2005 at 6:29 pmIf most liberals would follow the news (as reported), they would realize that Joe Wilson has contradicted himself during his congretional appearance on many of his previous remarks.
November 1st, 2005 at 1:25 pmAs far as WMD’s, we as Americans have been burying our heads in the sand for a long time(by not thinking like our adversaries do)so we might as well keep it in the sand untill those WMD’s appear again and bite us in the rear, which will happen.
