“Strategists working with the White House

in support of the Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers are becoming increasingly demoralized and pessimistic about the nomination’s prospects on Capitol Hill in the wake of Miers’s meetings with several Republican and Democratic senators,” according to Byron York.

reality sets in… a little later than for the rest of us, but it sets in…

  2. War4Sale says:

Hilarious, but the best part is considering who wrote the article. Here’s his bio:

“Byron York, NR’s White House correspondent, is the author of the new book The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy: The Untold Story of How Democratic Operatives, Eccentric Billionaires, Liberal Activists, and Assorted Celebrities Tried to Bring Down a President — and Why They’ll Try Even Harder Next Time.”

Even the Kool Aid drinkers are starting to realize just how doomed the Bush presidency is.

  3. Spudge_Boy says:

Ahhhhh, I feel so sorry for these…..

    Oh wait, no I don’t.

  4. Ben says:

Holy cow! You know it’s bad when a strategist working FOR you says “But the White House is so irrational that who knows? As of this morning, there is a sort of pig-headed resolve to press forward…”

  5. bling says:

    My fave quote:

“The meetings with the senators are going terribly. On a scale of one to 100, they are in negative territory.

That’s a line worth of Nigel “if it was any more black… it would be none more” Tufnel. Which is appropriate, because the Bush administration is disintegrating just like Spinal Tap on tour. Can’t wait for the free jazz excursion…

  6. The Northeast Dilemma says:

So will you guys press your Democrats to defeat her or will you press for confirmation just to antagonize us on the right….

There is something in it for both of us if she is defeated…

  7. Ryan Neat says:

    NED,

Why are you on this thread. I’m still waiting on you to APOLOGIZE FOR LYING AND SPREADING PROPAGANDA. For 2 days in a row you smeared and spread lies that I PROVED were lies.

    APOLOGIZE NOW FOR LYING!

  8. The Northeast Dilemma says:

#7 – I am trying to have a constructive debate. Do you want to defeat Miers or not? God, you’re impossible. This is something we might actually agree on. Why not give a thoughtful answer and stop slandering for just five minutes…

  9. The Northeast Dilemma says:

  10. Pablo in Mexico says:

Things are so bad for bushlandia over the Miers thing that the shrub is appealing to some puke senators that if they dont toe the line on Miers, HIS PRESIDENCY IS AT STAKE.

See how dumb dumbya is, he dont even know that his presidency is dead already. What a freak.

  11. Andrew G. says:

I was wondering when people would figure out that this patient was on life support.

  12. Zookeeper says:

#10 – Nope, NED, I think you had it right on #9.

  13. The Northeast Dilemma says:

#11 – it’s dead if she is seated on the Court. I am not going to put toe the line for fifth best.

Never f*ck with the base. We can be dangerous little bastards.

  14. Andrew G. says:

There’se something for the right if she’s defeated?

Yeah, the next nominee will appear more acceptable by comparison, but don’t be fooled.

  15. The Northeast Dilemma says:

#15 – yes, but you get to embarrass the President. AND do you really think he’ll appease the base after we humilate him. He’ll go for the more moderate, but qualified Conesuela Callahan on the 9th Circuit. She’s hispanic and a woman and pro-Roe.

  16. Andrew G. says:

She’s hispanic. Great. What ever happened to diversity on the court? They’ll soon all be Roman Catholics.

I cannot embarass the president. He does that himself.

  17. The Northeast Dilemma says:

#17 – not really. You never beaten him. This is your chance. It’s not going to happen very often.

  18. Andrew G. says:

I’m not going to beat him, Arlen Specter will.

  19. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Forget Arlen. Because of idiots like him, we’re stuck with Harriet.

  20. Ryan Neat says:

    NED,

I thought because of idiots like Bush we were stuck with Harriet – wasn’t Bush the one who nominated her? Or are you scapegoating again as you always do?

  21. Ryan Neat says:

    Comment by The Northeast Dilemma”

    Don’t you mean bitches?

Now why are you incapable of admitting failure? I proved you wrong – yet you just go on to the next lie. Are you that pathological? Clearly you are… I just want everyone else to see that you’re incapable of admitting your failures, just like Bush and the rest of your cabal of failures and nitwits!

  22. War4Sale says:

I say vote her down – it shows just how politicaly weak Dumbya is now. If he comes back with a more conservative nominee, he appeases the fundies on his right flank, but alienates the mainstream, which further erodes his support in the center and helps ensure a backlash against his party in the midterms. Nothing I’ve seen about Miers makes me think she’d defend Row anyway, so there’s nothing to lose.

  23. Marie says:

She is so wrong as nominee for SCOTUS, and she should be withdrawn, and if not, then she must be rejected, but I am more concerned about what happens then. I don’t see the us coming out any better with a different nominee from the Bush crime family.

  24. Ryan Neat says:

    NED,

You don’t seem to understand. If we let Harriet win, we can impeach her later under a democratic administration. We hope you guys all rally around her!

  25. kindness says:

Not meaning to be politically incorrect, but I will…

Can’t you hear the fat lady singing? Most of us can. I’d be happy but I know dumbya (the fascist swine) will put up some asshole who is just as bad if not worse.

I suppose he looks in the yellow pages under “Evil Activist Judges”. I don’t figure he’s got the saavy to just plain Google it like the rest of us.

  26. Andrew G. says:

Put her to a vote, at least of the committee. I want the few who would support such a yahoo on the record.

  27. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Ryan – the last time someone mentioned impeaching judges, they were shot down politically. I think Bush should have appointed Janice Rogers Brown or Michael McConnell, both brilliant conservatives. The liberals have hijacked America through the Courts and it’s time to stop them. Harriet is not up to snuff though.

Bush broke a promise and he will be dealt with. However, the alternative would have been Kerry who would judges that think partially delivering a baby and stick forceps in it’s brains is a constitutional right. I beg to differ.

  28. Terrytheturtle says:

“liberals hijacked America through the courts” – so what was Bush v Gore, 2000?

  29. Terrytheturtle says:

“I’m from the Bush-Cheney campaign and I am here to stop the count”
    - John Bolton, UN Ambassador, smiling face of US democracy to the world.

  30. Spudge_Boy says:

“However, the alternative would have been Kerry who would judges that think partially delivering a baby and stick forceps in it’s brains is a constitutional right.”

I’d like to know if you think a bloody pile of gooey crap is a baby?

Well, times change, or hadn’t you noticed that.

“Bush broke a promise and he will be dealt with. However, the alternative would have been Kerry who would judges that think partially delivering a baby and stick forceps in it’s brains is a constitutional right. I beg to differ.”

Don’t you mean he LIED to you? Come on, you can say it! You’ve been accusing liberals like Kerry of lying when they haven’t, why’s it so hard for you to hold your own party accountable? Are you that much of a lying partisan hack? Clearly you are!

As for the ’stick a baby in the brain’ bit, not only is that a melodramatic statement – it’s a lie. But then again, everything you seem to post is. A fetus is not a baby. A sperm is not a baby. An egg is not a baby. And the world is not flat. And creationism is a lie. I live in the real world, you live in a fantasy mythology. You use terms that aren’t what you claim they are in order to deceive and oppress those who disagree with you. You are EVIL AND STUPID!

  32. Ryan Neat says:

    Spudge,

Our resident economist who seems to know nothing about economics, clearly knows even less about biology and physiology. NED, you should have taken those electives – you might have learned something you didn’t get being home schooled.

  33. captain_menace says:

If only Bush had chosen Judge Judy… now that is one strong, capable lady. And fairly hot to boot.

  34. afterthought says:

The White House just reeks of incompetence
    these days.
    They were the “adults”, remember?
FUBAR Bush was obviously a loser from the get-go.
How did the stupid winger miss that he really
    is a over-privileged, under-achieving, fake cowboy
    wastrel?

Well, when ol’ NED was born, it was exactly just that, unfortunately.

  36. Keith H. says:

It seems to me that nominating someone that has no credentials or experience to such an important position really makes junior look like even more of a half-wit than usual, if that’s possible.
It’s almost as if he’s a spoiled little brat with one priority. Proving to anyone that is interested, that he will do what he damn well pleases, no matter the consequences. Next, he’ll have a sandbox installed in the oval office.

  37. progressive and proud says:

As a progressive, having her on this country’s highest court would be simply, disgraceful. She is inept and could pull no weight at all so she would be a lame duck judge. She is a proven liar and that shows her unethical character. I must say, NeD, you have totally misunderstood us here if you believe for a second that we would back such an incompetent crony JUST because the right would be pissed.

Nothing we do or promote (and I really only speak for myself here) is to make others mad or advance a specific agenda. What we want is a more cohesive government that listens to us. We are about ideals and working step by step to see a larger picture of transparency. The secrecy and the blatant appointments of cronys is what has made me personally so damn mad.

I didn’t like Reagan or Bush, Sr. at all, but damn, they at least didn’t put us in a vacuum with all of the world. These guys just don’t care what we think. They thumb their noses at us and laugh in our faces.

They have run off any intelligent life left in any office of this admin. Anyone worth a salt has left and you know how it is, the underlings always run the show. They are the backbone, the ones we don’t hear about. The secretaries run the attorneys, the nurses run the doctors. We all know who gets WORK done, don’t we? They have gone with little fanfare and have been replaced with Brownies. And, we have to pay the salaries of these idiots.
