Bill Kristol has run out of spin for Bush administration officials involved in the leak scandal. Today on Fox News Sunday:
Scooter Libby or Karl Rove are going to be judged criminals for perhaps acknowledging her name, perhaps knowing, though there’s no evidence they did, that she was a covert operative…That’s a crime?
Yes, outing a covert CIA operative is a crime. So is obstruction of justice and perjury.
Kristol had a similar defense for Tom DeLay:
Tom DeLay is not a criminal…Are we seriously going to pretend that shuffling hard and soft money around which hundreds of politicians have done over the last two decades, before McCain-Feingold was enacted [is a crime]?
Actually, McCain-Feingold is irrelevant. DeLay is being prosecuted under Texas law. And under Texas law funneling corporate dollars into state races is a crime.
If this is the best Kristol has got, things must be really bad.

And so he keeps spinning and spinning about how the outing of Plame was morally trivial, and how its prosecution is politically motivated. He just doesn’t get what this is about, namely treason, which happens to be illegal, no matter how trivial the particular case, nor how politically convenient or inconvenient it turns out to be for everybody.

That’s the weird thing, I think, with Kristol. He has such a sort of baby-face charm around him that for people who do not know him for what he is, he comes out as genuine and really caring about the good of this country. Even progressives often give him a pass on the outrageous things that he comes out with and dismiss him as just another shill of the administration. And that, I think, is a mistake.

I want to see Karl Rove taken out of the White House in handcuffs this week. That would be sweet. The PNAC cabal uses Christianity as a cover the same way a wolf wears a lambskin.

What is really going on is the set up to annihilate millions or billions of human beings who oppose the agenda of the top controllers. The PNAC players are nothing but dupes and payed shills. When I think about Bush, in many ways he was taken advantage of by the neocons. They used their understanding of his and Cheney’s basic sensibilities (Greed and Cronyism), to spin the white house into a theft driven ideological trance towards proxy wars for Israel. In the bigger picture this nuance may not matter, but however you slice it heads are going to roll. The real question is whether it’s W’s or the neocons. As this all shakes out, you will eventually see the real power in our Republic forced to openly assert itself.
