Tick. Tick. Tick.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

“Top administration officials are expected to learn from Fitzgerald as early as Monday whether they will face charges as the prosecutor winds up his nearly two-year investigation…Fitzgerald could convene the grand jury as early as Tuesday to lay out a final summary of the case and ask for approval of possible indictments,” Reuters reports. Monday Monday. Looks like the gigs up soon for these jokers.

  2. Andy says:

Don’t get your hopes up. If they (the indicted) remain loyal, Bush will pardon them. Back to the old cronyism strategy of management. It’s not what you know, but who you know.

  3. Innocent Bystander says:

Apparently, honest Republican prosecutors are the only way we can get rid of the criminal syndicate. There was a time when we had a reasonably fair and impartial electoral process that would allow the citizens to dispose us of would-be dictators, but no more.

  4. War4Sale says:

    That’s true, Andy.

But step two is blasting Scott McClellan with questions about what Bush and Cheney knew and “when did they know it?” I’m confident Bush will be able to keep his cronies out of jail, but he’ll pay a high price for it. What remains of his credibility with mainstream America will be torn to shreds and his approval rating will crash through the floor with a loud CLANG!

  5. Brian says:

Any indictment to anyone will destroy this administration. Even if it’s only Miller.

“They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them.” -Excerpt from Libby letter to Miller.

  7. Brian says:

Daily Kos spent an entire thread trying to “decode” the letter. “They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them.” means go ahead and testify, and tell them what everyone else did: NOTHING.

    They are F*CKED.

    Kenneth, what is the frequency?

  10. Marie says:

On Monday night, perhaps there will be a leak from a lowly aide in the White House after he makes a run to the local liquor store for Bushie — maybe we will see Bush staggering on the lawn in the Rose Garden after all.

  11. Drew Mackenzie says:

    Credibility? What credibility?

With his sucky poll #s, even Jesus is denying that Bush is part of God’s creation at this point.

  12. Marie says:

If Cheney was never under oath, he can’t be charged with perjury. Can he still be charged with obstruction or conspiracy?

  13. Rotwang says:

    Scooter: “The sun is shining.”

Miller: “Yes, but the ice is slippery.”

I just love all this spy-talk and covert intrique, don’t you? Aspens turning in clusters, miles to go before I sleep. Ooooh — it just gives me shivers!

  14. Susan says:

I”m sure he can Marie. Obstruction is very broad and the fact that Cheney didn’t testify under oath could be construed as obstruction. I assume Fitz asked Cheney to testify under oath, why wouldn’t he?

Conspriracy charges can be handed to everyone who knew of the plan.

  19. Jay says:

At this point I think Bush has been fatally damaged. Unless he steps down, or the 06′ mid-terms completely turn the tide and the Dems take back the Senate or the House and impeachment hearings do in fact get under way (a dubious proposition at best), he’s going to have continue to pretend to be a big boy whether he still wants to play the game or not. Full-blown lameduck status kicks in this week though, and he has very little chance of achieving much of his remaining agenda. Of course he’s done so much damage that at this point we’re bailing out the titanic with dixie cups. I believe that if a handful of things can be achieved/avoided before Shrubya leaves office it’ll be a relative victory for democracy:

Avoid a nutball (e.g. Roger Brown or Luttig) being confirmed for the Supreme Court (as Miers looks very shaky at this point).

Make sure that the GOP goals to “reform” Social Security remain dead.

Force the Democrats to pass legislation requiring receipts from electronic voting machines.

Keep the momentum going in opposing the war in Iraq. If the number of Americans supporting Iraq continues to dwindle, they MUST end the occupation.

All of this hinges on our ability to avoid marshall law, an invasion from an allied Sino-Russian army, total economic collapse, or all of the above.

    Jay… may I add:

Assure a responsible fiscal realist to succeed Greenspan?

  21. Pablo in Mexico says:

The latest polls show that Bush is below his base level. In other words, millions have deserted the shithead.

I dont see how he can come out of it. If there are any pardons on his part, he digs himself a deeper hole, and may even lose a few million of those southern red staters who love to vote against their own interests.

  22. Andrew G. says:

The President cannot be inducted without being impeached, but this doesn’t apply to the Veep, does it?

  23. Andrew G. says:

  24. Jay says:

Not to mention the sad fact that to 2000th American soldier killed in Iraq is going to coinicide with Fitzgerald’s decision.

Barring a massive diversion (and I pray that its not another “terrist” attack or a full-scale invasion of Iran or Syria), Shrubya’s 2nd term has the potential to go down as one of the most disastrous in U.S. history. These dipshits have managed to screw up EVERYTHING. Seriously, is there a Bush-defender out there that can point to one single success from the Bush administration? Perhaps the ease of the Roberts nomination, but other than that…..I got nothing.

  25. Rotwang says:

#24: No problem. Chimpy’s lucky TANG appointment prevented him from being “inducted.” You were right the first time. ;->

  26. Brian says:

Off topic, but I think blogs will be the ultimate undoing of the GOP. They showcase liberal/progressive diversity.
Inversely, they amplify GOP fractures and stupidity.

So there. Cheer up, everyone! Go Sox!

  27. Jay says:

    Brian,

I was saying Go Sox a year ago with a lot more passion and interest, but I have to say I love Ozzie Guillen’s passion for the game, I love baseball, and it would be GREAT to see Chicago finally celebrate a World Series victory (even if they’re drowning in their beer again on the North side).

    Go Sox!

  28. WaltTheMan says:

    #25,
I pray not. Every life is priceless.

  29. Andrew G. says:

#25, Not exactly on point, but did anyone notice that Roberts was elevated to CJ nominee before they even stuck Rhenquist in the ground and that Miers was nominated on the day that CJ Roberts was sworn in?

Bushie is so jealous that someone else might get publicity that he would dishonor the dead by naming their replacement BEFORE the g’damned funeral.

Just tasteless. Bushie is a very vulgar (as in “common” man).

  30. AvengingAngel says:

While it will be months until we know the final results of Patrick Fitzgerald’s PlameGate investigation, there is one thing we can conclude with certainty. Finally, President George W. Bush is being punished for his “Politics of Payback”. After five years of savage and baseless attacks on the likes of Richard Clarke, General Eric Shinseki, Paul O’Neill, Jim Jeffords, and Richard Foster, the small, mean-spirited, venal and vengeful George W. Bush is paying the price…

    For the full story, see:

  31. Rotwang says:

“…the small, mean-spirited, venal and vengeful George W. Bush is paying the price.”
    ___

You forgot to mention that he’s a petty little fuck, a shitty businessman and a pussified shadow of Bush Pere.

No harm. Just striving for completeness.
