Sad, sad, sad. Here’s hoping for a change.

  2. Death Tax says:

    Mission Accomplished

  3. Natalie Duany says:

He never misses an opportunity for crocodile tears. He doesn’t care. It isn’t real because he makes sure he doesn’t have to face up to what he’s done. What a travesty and a tragedy.

  4. Andy says:

Do you think Cindy Sheehan will be invited to the spouse speech? (I know she’s the mother, not the spouse of a fallen soldier.)

  5. Brian says:

Bush sounds angry. Maybe he’s just more aggressive with female audiences. Maybe he’s practicing his defense for the impending trial.

  6. Brian says:

Is he going to tell us again how Iraq fits into his speech about hunting down terrorists? Did I miss it?

  7. Brian says:

Oh, he just did. It’s the new phrase: “FUTURE TYRANTS”

  8. Zookeeper says:

I can’t even look at his face anymore. I can’t hear his words. I am so disgusted and sad. Support the troops, bring them home now.

  9. Brian says:

We will never know if his arguement about preventing terror is true. The “Islamofacsists” want non muslims off muslim soil. But that will never happen. So it’s endless war and death. It’s bad policy.

  10. T.J. says:

This admin. would smear any or all of them if it meant getting their way.

  11. Theresa says:

I hope one of those spouses hits Bush with an unscripted question today relating to the 2,000 dead. This is nothing to celebrate and everything to back up bringing the soldiers home.

  12. Zookeeper says:

    They won’t, Theresa, they won’t.

  13. SpudgeBoy says:

I was hoping we wouldn’t reach this “milestone.” It is a sad day. This needs to stop. They need to stop letting Bush appoint people for high ranking positions until the Fitzgerald investigation gives its report/indictments. This is a president that could very well be going down and they are contiuing to let him change the face of D.C.

did anyone listen to cindy sheehan on randi rhodes show last friday?
she (cindy) has plans for the day the total goes to 2000…watch for that news…i hope she follows through……

  15. Susan says:

I bet NED is getting a boner from this report.

  16. Ryan Neat says:

And what’s sad is that the constitution is such a rightwing creation, that Iran’s supreme mullah praised it! This is what we go to war for – to create yet another islamic religious fascist government? It’s easy to see why all 3 businesses Bush started failed – the man’s the worst administrator and worst visionary to have ever held office. He doesn’t have the midas touch, he has the garbage dump touch. Everything he touches turns to trash!

  17. Zookeeper says:

Where is NED anyway? Got anything to say about this, NED? Knock, knock, NED?

  18. cynical ex-hippie says:

Maybe NED took TP’s advice, signed up for a tour of duty, and became number 2,000.

  19. mparker says:

Cindy Sheehan will follow through. She is fearles because because the worst has already happened for her. We need to follow through by supporting her. Call your Senators and Congressmen. Go to one of the Vigils. Do everything and anything you can. NOW. As bad as things have become they will become much worse unless we can end this madness. We all have much more to lose. FIGHT !

  20. mrb says:

    What was number 2000’s name?

  21. katy says:

#18 & 19 – ned just showed up at another post -BREAKING: McClellan Throws Rove & Scooter Under The Bus – with this jewel:

    Alot on Rove and Libby….

Why did ThinkProgress stop following Mother Sheehan? Is it because you now realize that Cindy is going to divide Democrats more than Republicans? For the record, the GOP universally finds her repulsive and shameless. I wonder how Hillary feels about her……

Peace activists to “die symbolically” outside White House

    ELISABETH GOODRIDGE
    Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Cindy Sheehan and other peace activists plan to “die symbolically” for the next four days outside the White House to represent the American soldiers who have died in Iraq.

Sheehan, whose son Casey died in Iraq last year, organized the vigil as the U.S. military death toll in the war neared 2,000.

“I’ll be laying down and not getting up,” Sheehan said Tuesday to a small crowd in which the number of journalists exceeded the number of protesters. “When they let me out, I’ll do the same thing if I get arrested.”

She said she hoped 2,000 people would attend the vigil throughout the week to represent each American death. Each participant was to receive a wrist bracelet with the name of a fallen soldier.

Sheehan brought attention to the anti-war effort last summer by camping outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. She was arrested outside the White House in a protest last month.

Sheehan also said she would visit Arlington National Ceremony, Walter Reed Hospital and the Iraqi Embassy this week.

“Two thousand families have been destroyed for nothing,” Sheehan said. “Enough is enough. The killing has to stop sometime.”

Old Georgie Boy dont like to give up does he? The next “closed” group he gave his bunch of lies to was a wives luncheon at an AFB

How demeaning that the president of this country cannot even draw a crowd.

  24. Magnum DB says:

I’d just like everyone to know that #1,999 is just as important to me as #2,000, as is 1,998, 1,997, etc. I hate how we pay most attention to the rounded numbers. Each soldiers life we lost is invaluable. I understand we as a population need to have some sort of gauge and mesure, and organiztation – it just saddens me to think about #378 or #1,846… just some off number that doesn’t end in 0. Because history won’t pay as much attention to them. Right now I see people focusing on three main soldiers – the first who died, #1,000, and #2,000.

I know there are people out there like me who think equally of all of them, so that makes me feel a bit better. But I can’t help feeling bad for these other reasons I’ve mentioned.

  25. Nigel Elliott says:

Condi Rice and Syrian Regime Change
Why does Condi Rice think the Bush administration has the right to decide who heads the Syrian government? According to news reports, the Bush administration has asked the Israeli and Italian governments to nominate a replacement for the current president of Syria.

A country incapable of choosing a better president than George W. Bush has no business choosing a president for any other country. In place of aggressive interference in the internal affairs of other countries, the US needs to find a competent president for itself.
