Conservative defenders of Karl Rove and Scooter Libby claim that the grand jury investigation into the CIA leak scandal represents the “criminalization of politics.”
On Friday, HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher aired a ThinkProgress video showing how Fox News pundits have pushed this talking point across the country.
Maher calls the montage “the smoking gun that proves that the fax machine at the White House is connected directly to the fax machine at Fox News. It goes right from the White House into the teleprompter.” Check it out over at Crooks & Liars.
Congrats guys. I really dug that video too…and I’ve heard that “criminalization of politics” BS a lot on TV since then…

October 25th, 2005 at 4:43 pmBill Maher is the man. He puts their feet to the fire. Love it.
October 25th, 2005 at 4:51 pmGood Job TP, and Maher, once again is the man with the spine.
New on EWM: White House Sets Job Fair
..Among the many other advertisements for job vacancies, we found:
FEMA Director: “heck of an opportunity for a self-starting problem solver; training in equestrian helpful but not mandatory.â€
Supreme Court Nominee: “seeking ‘best Supreme Court nominee ever’ to replace ‘worst Supreme Court nominee ever’; no prior judicial experience needed, but candidate should possess a good heart and have James Dobson on their speed dial.â€
White House Press Secretary: “successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to generate positive news stories about a lying buffoon and bitch-slap Helen Thomas when needed.†Curiously, the job description contains the passage “casual Friday does not include drag attire,†which was inserted to dissuade former White House correspondent/male escort Jeffery Gannon from applying for the position.
October 25th, 2005 at 4:55 pmJudd – Now that you’ve made the big time, please don’t forget about us….
Congradulations. You work hard enough for 2 blogs. You deserve all the credit you get.
October 25th, 2005 at 6:04 pmI saw it on Maher’s show — it was great. Maher may not always be right, but he is a thinking man. He also has guts to say outrageous truths and for that he gets respect.
October 25th, 2005 at 6:48 pmHe proved what many of us, and the CAP along with TP, have been saying, that Fox News is scripted and rehearsed, biased and propagandist. Fortunately, Maher, Stewart, and Air America provide evidence of that every day.
Maher should have acknowledged on his show that the video came from the Progrss Report and Think Progress. It was one of the highlights of the show and he should have given proper credit.
You know how much we think of your work, Judd. I don’t care what Bill O’Reilly says, I think that you and the entire Think Progress and Progress Report staff are doing a terrific job.
