Grand jury calls it a day.

Grand jury calls it a day.

From the AP: “The federal grand jury investigating the leak of a CIA officer’s identity met for three hours Wednesday with Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald and adjourned for the day without announcing any action…There was no word on whether Fitzgerald planned to make any announcement or whether the grand jury planned to meet again.”

Meanwhile Bush threatens to invade Syria – nothing will stop him except impeachment and that can only come after 2006 congressional elections – maybe the military commanders will have something to say about another offensive

    What Makes a Prosecutor Special?

    More Questions Than Answers
Dan Froomkin, Special columnist to WashingtonPost.com reported today that “special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald’s investigation into the leak of Valerie Plame’s identity has reached even closer to the vice president than was previously known.”

    This brings up several questions:

How does an investigation reach, how do we know when it has reached close, and when did we know this previously (as it is suggested)? That is more than one question, I know.

What makes a prosecutor (or a columnist) special?

The Post.com columnist (sorry, Special columnist) also noted that a “new revelation” suggested all of this. That “new revelation” was in reality “suggested” by a New York Times article. The columnist goes on to reveal that “Fitzgerald is expected to wrap up this week.” This brings up more questions:

Is Fitzgerald doing his Christmas wrapping early? Or,

Is it the investigation that Fitzgerald will wrap up, and will the resulting indictments be as special as his title suggests?

“Libby and Bush senior adviser Karl Rove are widely seen as most likely to be indicted.” You know the question that is coming.

Is this like wide screen or high definition? Or,

Is it the consensus that these two fellows will most likely be blessed with the indictments of this special prosecutor?

“Just how the White House first learned of Plame’s identity has been one of the elusive mysteries of this case.”

No question here, but the mystery to me seems to be how a White House can learn anything. The answer to this is elusive.

“Rove is said to have initially told the grand jury he first heard about Plame from some reporter, but he couldn’t remember who. Then he said he heard it from Libby.”

    One question:

Did the Grand Jury “initially” tell the columnist this, or did he hear it from some reporter?

“Libby is said to have initially told the grand jury he first heard about Plame from reporters — but they denied it. And now, says the Times, Libby’s own notes show he heard it from Cheney.”

Okay, I know we are getting tired of the question bit, but I can’t help it. How about some commentary along with the questions?

I can only assume these two consecutive “is said to haves” are the columnist’s sad attempt to admit that his story was “initially” borrowed from the New York Times, and he knows less than the rest of us who was actually responsible for all of this he said, they said stuff.

What does the Times say? The Times says (sound of angels singing) that Libby’s own notes show (are Libby’s notes like a treasure map?) he heard it from Cheney.

Are we to assume the Times or the Post.com Special columnist is referring to Vice President Cheney? I don’t even call my boss Carter, and I work next to him every day. If we have to recognize this columnist as “Special,” you would at least think he could use the Vice President’s proper title.

I will not bore you any longer with this sad attempt at journalism? (mine or his), but I will leave you with one thought. I don’t think any of this “he said – they said” will ever become the silver bullet much of the liberal blogosphere heralded it as today. The whole story and time line is quite confusing, and the Times article today did little to clear things up.

However, I still must wonder whether the honorable Peter Porcupine’s forwarded rumors were just that or something more.

Suggested Reading: Not the above mentioned article

…don’t you just want to wretch at his rants? Maybe a few brave souls here would like to comment on his pathetic blog…
