    Suprise! Suprise! Suprise!

  2. Chris says:

Too bad, so sad…. My concern is – who will be the next nominee? Things *could* be worse. I can’t believe the conservatives were even looking down on Miers…

  3. thot's says:

not at all suprised ,we don’t know why he put her up in the first place .did bush know that she would be withdrawn? does he have someone like thomas or scalia to nom-i-ate? where is this line of deceit going? i don’t trust anything coming from the W.H.

  4. Dumb Fox says:

Right. And this is totally unrelated and incidental to the possibility of the Plamegate indictments getting handed down today.

Oh well, I suppose it’s a little more original than a terror alert.

  5. Michael Luttig says:

Well, well, well! Just a reminder: I do windows! AND I’ll vote to permanently take my own power away to rule on the most important issues of our nation!

  6. Allen McMurrey says:

Now what we have to ask ourselves is what sort of lunatic, freedom hater is the American Taliban going to force upon our besieged leader? Whose heart will he be able to look into and pronounce all is well and good in La La land?

  7. Jeremy says:

Does anybody know of any other president who nominated someone without much experience?

  8. Beaugus Kridderz says:

Did somebody mention TOTAL DISSARAY! Darn, And I was looking ssssooooo forward to getting to know her. She is still the “Best” nominee ever from the state of Texas. The state of Texas meaning (re:diary of madman)… the early stages of dementia.

    Book’em Dano!

    -Kridderz

  9. Andy says:

It’s not a diversion. These guys are just imploding. Good riddance. No offense harriet, but GWB is not a brilliant man. Surprisingly, her blog (http://www.harrietmiers.blogspot.com/) has no news.

  10. thot's says:

Right I too think it is a Red herring to try and throw off the C I A leak problems in the W.H. they can’t se terror any more so they will start using whatever is at hand ……damn …they just ate one of their own….bye bye scooter down the hatch…..

  11. BusyTimmy says:

I’m sure the #2 guy is waiting in the wings… Another nominee with no paper trail- and a good heart & soul.

  12. Nick says:

Damn, I’m such a bleeding heart…I really feel sorry for her. Not because she deserves to be on the Supreme Court, but because she just strikes me as sweetly ignorant, and then she hit reality and got torn to bits.

  13. Dumb Fox says:

#10 – It is a diversion, but also an attempt to get all the bad news out this week. Miers’ nomination was DOA… so the Bushies were going to make the best of a bad situation and get it out at the most helpful time.

At a suitable time in the near future, we’ll get the new nominee; then, just watch the conservative punditocracy go dry-hump their golden boy or girl as Bush tries to rebuild some bridges.

  14. Randy says:

Now get ready for Brown or Owens!

  15. deegahl says:

Man, this is a suprise! Becuase I think the Bushies are pure evil, my mind thinks this is to take the air out of Fitzmas. If it isn’t, I fear the next nominee. That person is going to make Bork look like Dr. Ruth. Gotta appease the wingnuts, Mr. Bush.

  16. Marie says:

I have always felt she was a red herring, and now Bush will nominate the strict, narrow-minded, anti-civil liberties person he wanted in the first place. His base will rally behind him, the pundits will compare the “indisputable” credentials of the new person as compared to the failed Miers, the Democrats will be labeled obstructionists and Bush smugly retreats to the White House.

  17. Jay says:

There was never any doubt that she would be withdrawn. I’ve heard speculation that Shrubya went off the reservation on this decision because Rove was out of commission (had some early Christmas shopping to do or something..) and as soon as the hardcore conservative pundits (Will, Buchanan et al.) made it clear that this move was an insult to the entire conservative movement and threatened its very r’aison d’etre, you knew she was done.

This announcement was DEFINITELY timed to distract from the indictment news, but overall, it doesn’t matter. The last two weeks have been unbelievably grotesque for this administration. The leak, the 2,000th death in Iraq, Scowcroft and Lawrence spilling the beans….COMPLETE MELTDOWN. Never seen such a rapid unraveling in my life (of course I’m not an Astros fan….did you see Bush 41 all Astroed out last night…what a jackass).

I agree with Randy though, it’ll have to be Brown, Owens or Luttig. Certainly the Dems have the stomach for a filibuster this time around right? They better!

  18. mparker says:

    “Dude, where’s my capital?”

    These are Bush’s choices.

A- The next candidate will be a supporter of “Roe” in which case Bush’s fanatical religious base goes batshit crazy. Bush loses.

B- The next candidate will be a charter member of the “American Taliban” and we have a great issue to use against them. Bush loses.

  19. Zookeeper says:

She was the bestest nominee ever!! Ugh.
