VandeHei: Rove Investigation Will Be Completed In Weeks, Not Months

More details on the Rove/Fitzgerald dealings from Washington Post reporter Jim VandeHei on MSNBC:

We have more detail on what’s happening with Karl Rove. We know that something happened in the last couple of days that Rove’s legal team was able to provide to Fitzgerald, that according to one Rove associate, “gave Fitzgerald pause” about charging Rove. They think that within the next couple of weeks, not months, that the Rove part of this investigation will be wrapped up, and that it is still centered on whether he provided false statements. It’s not clear what exactly transpired. There has been this flurry of conversations between Rove and his team and Fitzgerald over the last week, with Rove trying to convince him, like, “Look, I may have forgotten some things but I did not lie.”

Very interesting. Somehow, though, at this late date I think it had to be a little more substantial than “please don’t charge me!”

  2. AvengingAngel says:

The White House war on Joe Wilson isn’t the exception to the rule. It is the rule.

Finally, President George W. Bush is being punished for his “Politics of Payback”. After five years of savage and baseless attacks on the likes of Richard Clarke, General Eric Shinseki, Paul O’Neill, Jim Jeffords, and Richard Foster, the small, mean-spirited, venal and vengeful George W. Bush is paying the price…

  3. jbos says:

Ok, perjury is bad. But isn’t it worse to mislead the nation with faulty information into a war with no end in sight? Will there ever be any inquiry or investigation into that?

  4. Jay says:

jbos, it’s undoubtedly worse, but Fitzgerald doesn’t have the goods….yet. We’ll know the story in 75 minutes.

  5. RemoveBush says:

#3 I’m completely with you. I can live with the perjery, because no one has died from it.

But taking us to war by misleading the American people is much worse and should be an impeachable offence and then a triable offence.

  6. wisedup says:

Let’s let Fitz take his time, and NAIL it shut. He is very smart and will do a complete job. GO FITZ GO. Rove is on the burner still with others, let them sizzle in the mean time….yeah.

  7. Darth Filibustrous says:

You think Rove squealed on Cheney in the 11th hour?

(Or is it high time to get rid of baseless optimism which eventually sets ourselves up for disappointment?)

  8. mysticagent says:

Can we please stop calling this a “war”? That was the spin from day one, and it is false. America is not “at War”. Congress has not declared war. (sorry, touchy point).

  9. jbos says:

I hate to say it but I agree with #7. I still hope that karma evetually catches these criminals before they leave in ‘09.

  10. mysticagent says:

It would be a giant leap toward justice if Rove told Fitz what he knows. I don’t see it. First of all, at what point has this administration been inclined to support justice, and particularly the courts? And Rove is Limbaugh plus – the man will light his face on fire before he does anything against the GOP (even if we are talking about revealing traitors in the government).

  11. Dumb Fox says:

So Karl keeps his security clearance whilst it’s determined whether his amnesia was real?

    Okily, dokily.
