Kristof:

By Judd Legum on Oct 29th, 2005 at 10:29 pm

Kristof:

“If Mr. Cheney can’t address the questions about his conduct, if he can’t be forthcoming about the activities in his office that gave rise to the investigation, then he should resign. And if he won’t resign, Mr. Bush should demand his resignation.”

    Don’t hold your breath!

  2. oldthinker says:

Is is odd that Kristol would call for the resignation of Cheney, as he is a Big Kahuna at PNAC and, from all I’ve seen, Cheney is their boy up front pushing the adgenda. Whose plot is thickening?

  3. T2005 says:

Never happen because Cheney’s the boss.

  4. Rich McVey says:

Get real. Bush and his team are going to mount a full court press. “Libby is a good guy who just happened not to remember a few details correctly. After all, he’s dealt with so many issues and people how can you possibly expect him to remember the minutia of these meetings so long ago.” Some more shoes in this case are going to have to fall. The Mr Xray Rove case is going to have to be concluded and if there are any flippers out there that would help to remove the lid off of top dead center.
The other thing that threatens the Bushies would be the real Senate investigation on the intel that led us to war. Jay Rockefeller comes across having the power of about 10 butterfly sneezes. Good luck on that front.
And, despite what he said that part of gathering the evidence in this case was understanding the why behind it, Fitzgerald has not shown an inclination to venture off the reservation of “who outed the CIA operative” to enunciating the why behind it. While the loose threads are laying all around the question is who is going to pull on them and give the American public the who indisputable story?

  5. oldthinker says:

OOPS! Sorry, I mis-read the name KRISTOF. My bad.

  6. Rich McVey says:

“Is is odd that Kristol would call for the resignation of Cheney”

    You’ve confused Kristol and Kristof.

  7. wwallace says:

Cheney hasn’t done anything to warrant resignation.

  8. Susan says:

Cheney is the talk of my town right now. Nobody is saying “hey, did you hear about Scooter Libby?”

Instead they are saying “what do you think about this Cheney thing?”.

    Public perception is wonderful.

  9. Rich McVey says:

I’m sure Cheney knew nothing about any of this for the last two years. If you believe that send me your bank account number I have a vast sum of money I want to deposit there until I can disperse it safely to worthy charities.

  10. Susan says:

Hey Rich, post that at redstate.org and you’ll make a killing.

  11. WaltTheMan says:

Cheney has only one problem – he can’t differentiate between Dover sole and a human soul.

  12. Jeanne says:

Kristof understands that the dirty laundry is out in public and it is going to remain in public while scooter decides to pleed guilty or go to trial. If he goes to trial we all get a front row seat to the best show in town. If he pleeds guilty we know that he did Cheney’s bidding and he’s going to jail for him. Cheney is a loser. Regardless, the whole Iraq war forgery thing is right out there hanging on the line like dirty underwear.

  13. Jeanne says:

    Pleed = plead – sorry.

  14. Alvord says:

All kidding aside, this is a real test of Cheney’s character. Will he explain his role or will he stonewall and in effect say to hell with what is good for the country?

  15. katy says:

obviously cheney doesn’t give a damn about the country, and his “character” has always been shown to be of the underhanded, shifty type.

time for some levity…pretty good SNL tonight – they had plenty of material to work with and got a lot of good digs in…tina fey describing fitzgerald brought up my own feelings – we’re both in love with the guy! ,,,me first though!

and this is the best: “A new poll out shows that 66% of americans think bush is doing a poor job of handling the war in iraq…the remaining 34% think Adam & Eve rode dinosaurs to church.” ah haaaa!!! g’nite.

  16. Pissed Off American says:

“All kidding aside, this is a real test of Cheney’s character. Will he explain his role or will he stonewall and in effect say to hell with what is good for the country?”

    Comment by Alvord

    Cheney? Character??? Are you kidding?????

  17. Pissed Off American says:

the remaining 34% think Adam & Eve rode dinosaurs to church.”

    Comment by katy

Idiots. Even I know that it was the Flintstones that did that.

  18. snookered says:

We’ll see if there is a force for knowledge or justice in America. The neutered media should be asking both Bush and Cheney what’s what. Oh…..I forgot!!! there’s an ongoing investigation, ya, that’s it!

  19. RichB in Carroll County md says:

Won’t happen anytime soon, if their is a trial any legal team would advise no comments from anyone at the White House. We’ll see a gaggle of ‘no comments’ from anyone asked about the situation….and rightly so. When this is ‘over’ I do believe Cheney has a responsibility to be forthright. Mr. Kristof is a bit self serving in not stating the legal side of the argument…I don’t like it, but it’s part of our justice system and should be honored.

  20. Pete Bogs says:

the Bush White House is not going to do anything it doesn’t absolutely HAVE TO do… they’ll continue riding things out and denying them along the way…

  21. Pablo in Mexico says:

You people have to understand that these bushlandia officials are not going to say anything. Why? Because they know they are potential witnesses in the Libby thing.

Cheney is going to tell you this himself, if hasnt already. If cheney opens his mouth, he hangs himself.

  22. Pete Bogs says:

what does Pablo mean by “you people?”

  23. Marie says:

Cheney resign? We may all like to see that happen, but it never will, and neither will Bush fire him. That’s fantasy. Cheney, however despicable and soulless, is the man in charge.

  24. Navy Vet says:

I can’t understand why anyone hasn’t used the excuse of the Devil made me do it. Bush has come close a few time to blaming the Lord for his actions. It always got a laugh on the Flip Wilson show.

  25. Pete Bogs says:

resignation smesignation… doesn’t anyone get FIRED anymore???

  26. Pete Bogs says:

Navy, maybe Cheney can blame Geraldine…

  27. scotus interruptus says:

Clearly Kristol speaks for the tightening circle protecting the prez. Cheney is now dispensable.

  28. scotus interruptus says:

Where’s John Dean now – there’s a cancer growing on the presidency – the tumor is growing exponentially

  29. kindness says:

I likw Kristof when he goes on Jon Stewarts show. Otherwise, he’s ususally a pompous justifyier and cheerleader for bushco.

Having said that, I’ll take his help (as opposed to Ann Coulter-alien) in getting Cheney booted out of office. But I would prefer if we could just kick this up a notch and suggest Bill help us get GWB removed from office.

Then, I’d be very torn but happy to get his help anyhow.
