Hadley’s Non-Denial Denial on Forged Documents
The forged documents that the administration used to bolster the claim that Iraq was seeking uranium from Niger originated from Italian intelligence sources. Specifically, it was being peddled by Nicolo Pollari, chief of Italy’s military intelligence service. It was recently revealed by an Italian newspaper that on September 9 2002, National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley had a secret meeting with Pollari.
People are now asking what they talked about. Hadley says he has “no recollection” of Iraq’s nuclear ambitions being discussed or of any documents being passed. It sure sounds like a denial, but it doesn’t mean much. Hadley was asked about it during a press conference today and he claims he has almost no recollection of anything that happened during the meeting with Polari:
QUESTION: Can you say what you did discuss with Mr. Pollari?
HADLEY: I told you, I have very little recollection of the meeting. And it was in the order of a courtesy call, getting to know a person who was going to be a colleague going forward. And you can tell that from the relative briefness of the meeting.
Just an innocent, “getting-to-know-you,” meeting with the guy who had been relentlessly pushing forged documents about Iraq’s nuclear ambitions for months.

Rove posed as a campaign helper some years ago so that he could steal letterhead. That stolen letter head was used to make fake invitations for free beer free food and loose women to this fundraiser. Those invites were given to homeless and skid row people, and when they did show up, the media had a hay day.
Same M.O. at play, and I just bet Rove/cheeney/libby/bush were all in on it.

An independent British parliamentary committee looking into the incident found that Iraq was trying to obtain uranium from Nigeria. The British have steadfastly stood by their story. On top of all this, the forgeries were probably planted to discredit the story of Iraq searching for uranium. Would Karl Rove or someone else really plant documents that would discredit their own case? Come on, lets not kid ourselves. And I have no idea what the Pizza Hut CEO has to do with this post,John deaux, but whatever floats your boat.

November 3rd, 2005 at 8:45 amIf I may respond to The Northeast Dilemma and to any others whom deny that Iraq sought uranium from Africa then you can go look at the official British site of the The Butler Report at http://www.archive2.official-documents.co.uk/document/deps/hc/hc898/898.pdf The sections on Iraq acquiring uranium begins at paragraph 490.
In fact, paragraph 499 of the report states, “We conclude that, on the basis of the intelligence assessments at the time, covering both Niger and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the statements on Iraqi attempts to buy uranium from Africa in the Government’s dossier, and by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons, were well-founded. By extension, we conclude also that the statement in President Bush’s State of the Union Address of 28 January 2003 that:
The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.
was well-founded.”
So Northeast Dilema and others, this staement comes from an official British government report. I believe that means the British did assert that Iraq was trying to buy uranium. Case closed.
