November 3rd, 2005 at 12:17 pmCan’t we dwell on the positive? Hee!
Terriffic! Another post I’ll be sure to link to many times over. Thanks again, ThinkProgress!
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:18 pmMy worst birthday, ever. But 35% makes it so much better this year! Thanks for the list, TP.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:22 pmThats great stuff! i just made you guys my homepage.
Keep up the good work.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:22 pmIt makes me sick to see all of this down on one page. A tragic year indeed for this country.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:23 pmDon’t forget Poland!
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:27 pmKeep up the outstanding work. Facts are the damnedest things.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:33 pmIt’s all I dreamed and more…the nightmares that is.
New on EWM: Kevin Bacon to play Libby in upcoming “Six Degrees of Scooterâ€
It’s ‘Dumb and Dumber’ meets ‘All the President’s Men.’
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:35 pmIf we could recount the 2004 vote, we could “swiftly” replace * with Kerry.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:43 pmLOL. Hey Mr.Bush, how are you going to reach out to the whole nation with a 35% approval rating???
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:50 pmHe has united the country. 65% think he is doing a bad job, the other 35% are still in denial or stupid.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:50 pmBush, you’re doing a heck of a job.
Larry
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:52 pmHappy birthday, Zookeeper!
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:54 pmWhat a depressing list. It reads like an straight F report card. Back to the Special ED class shrub and by the way you’ll be riding the short bus.
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:56 pm#2: let’s hear ONE positive thing… Was there one? Can’t recall…
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:56 pmAn yet….there is a 35% “approval” rating??? There are folks out there who still believe the Prez is doing a “fine job”, is “honest” and is probably still the guy they’d most like to have a beer with! What rock do these morons live under? When, oh when, will his approval rating drop to absolute, drop-dead 0! What were people thinking in 2000 and again in 2004?
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:58 pmYear in Review: What’s Happened Since Bush’s Reelection.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:10 pmSince his WHAT???
Re-appointment, more like.
Where’s this one?
January 7 USA Today reports that the Bush Administration paid Armstrong Williams $240,000 to promote the No Child Left Behind law.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:15 pmI cann’t believe their is 35% that are approving this man. They must be all BRAINWASHED.
Wakeup America!!!!!
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:15 pmRepublicans are also sociopaths: one who has no compunction to violate the rights of others (i.e. no conscience).
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:15 pmYes, he did reach out and pick every Americans pocket so he could redistribute that wealth to his homies in the oil business. Aren’t we special!
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:16 pmGreat review! Nicely done.
Regrettably, the coverup worked. Any discussion of the “reasons” for going to war were buried by the Repug congress prior to the ‘04 election. Libby and that NYTimes writer were able to hold off Fitzgerald until after the election too.
Georgey Boy Bush and his administration are a real mess. And we the people tolerate this without storming the castle?
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:19 pm#14 - Thank you! This year it’s truly happy!
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:21 pmOh, if only he’d said the following to all those of us who voted for his opponent(s): “To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support. And since that ain’t gonna happen until pigs fly, I’ve decided to resign and turn things over to Barak Obama.”
Keep up the drumbeat, folks. That “approval” (should read “delusional”) rating keeps going down and down and down…
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:22 pmThank God John Kerry and his anti-American, terrorist sympathizing, lying and very haterful supporters LOST.
AND thank God Bush is tanking now and not November 2006.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:26 pmI started reading, but can’t finish. I’m now looking for a window to jump out of.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:27 pmExcellent list. It’s our job to ensure we keep reminding folks of two items that are easily forgotten by media:
1. Bush falling flat on Social Security Privatization (how once privatization was off the table, he dropped the whole idea of reform, showing us all what he really cared about)
2. Terri Schiavo & Frist’s diagnosis (Congress overstepping individual privacy regarding end of life issues)
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:28 pmYeah, I would have rather my $500 refund go to the school of the punk up the road from me who keeps lookin’ at my shit when he drives by my house.
As it is now, he’ll wind up dropping out of of some voucher jesus skool on his way to stealing my truck on his way to prison where he’ll turn to islam where he’ll rally hate against me and mine and i’ll have to join the white flight to get away from the bad element in my ‘hood on my way to my pretty white private school for mine. How much is THAT gonna cost me?
$500!
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:29 pmIn the dumper says it all. I just thanked god, but not for NED’S wishfull thinking. ARE YOU BLIND!!!!!!
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:29 pmBush is President for three more years - does that bother anyone here?
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:30 pm#27
Invading Iraq = more terrorism (2004 most terror attacks ever)
north east dipshit supports terrorism
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:30 pmHow can Bush be impeached if Republicans control the House, the Senate and Supreme Court?
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:30 pm#33 - you sympathize with terrorists….
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:31 pmHow much money have YOU mooched off the gov’t, NED. You strike me as an unattached minority who secretly and privately sucks the teet. I KNOW you do public transit.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:32 pmWhat Bush actually said on November 3:
“So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent: Even though I have no idea how, to make this nation stronger and better I demand your support, and I will vacation to earn it. I will do all I can do to destroy your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to divide the whole nation.â€
Heckuva job.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:32 pmFreeRepublic ran a list of Bush “accomplishments” yesterday. Generally, it emphasized “achievements” like nullifying environmental laws, bailing on Kyoto, eliminating corporate accountability to individuals, renegging on arms agreements and pulling support for the International Court. Otherwise, it was a lot like THIS list, except that — over at FR — much of what’s itemized here was presented as “victories.”
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:32 pmDamn, 3 more years of Bush. This list will reach from LA to SanFran by then.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:33 pmOne man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. When’s the last time you got YOUR hands dirty, NED.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:33 pm#27 - “thank God Bush is tanking”
Amen, brother…
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:35 pmHey, NED #27, how goes the battle, trying to cover junior’s record? Boy, I have had my hands full trying to find something good to say about him with all the corruption, lies, coverups, and sinking polls so thanks for the help. I mean, as a conservative I’m just demoralized and absolutely sick about all his sorry shit, arn’t you?
Correct me if I’m wrong, NED, but remember when Republicans actually cared about the little people and not just in the pockets of corporate donors? And rembember when they had real principles that carried over from public soundbites into their private lives? Or when going after White House wrongdoing whether there was a democrat or republican holding office?
And NED, remember when Republicans had good ethics, honorable values and strong moral intentions in passing laws that gave even a small sense of fairplay to working class Americans?
Me neither.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:40 pm#32 - NeD: “Bush is President for three more years - does that bother anyone here?
Does it bother you that we lefties have a calmer inner peace, and you’re always virulently angry ?
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:41 pm#44 - obviously you don’t read this site if you think it’s conservatives who are virulently angry. DF - you people are smear merchants.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:43 pmIt is physically impossible to “smear” this administration. The truth makes any exaggeration superfluous.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:48 pmDF,
To a republican, when you point out their failures they get angry, so they project that anger onto you. It’s part of a larger psychosis for them. They project their failures on everyone else (preferrably clinton). They project their immorality on everyone else (once again clinton). And they project their ignorance, anger, hatred and bigotry on everyone else.
The trolls in particular exhibit classic traits of paranoid personality disorder.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:48 pm#46— I always laugh at your hypocrisy. One of my faves is when you call us smear merchants in one post and then threaten to “swift boat” us in the next post. The hilarity is increased because I can picture you getting all hot and bothered by us libs, then responding to us and actually believing yourself, which is the funniest part.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:49 pmRDL,
Democrats value ‘facts’, that’s why we value journalism. Whereas republicans value ‘opinions’, that’s why limbaugh and other vendors of false opinions are so popular. That’s also why they focus so easily on smears, lies and other ‘non journalistic’ tactics, because in the republican world of ‘opinions’ all things are fair to them.
In otherwords, they’re natural propagandists and natural fascists. It’s why rightwing fascism springs up in every society - it’s often related to psychological and mental illnesses unfortunately.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:50 pm[…] I didn’t realize we’d hit a depressing anniversary of sorts. What boggles the mind: Election results. What continues to boggle the mind: This. I can’t believe it’s been such a phenomenally awful year for the man, and so many many people don’t even seem to notice. […]
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:52 pmWhere is sceptic sceptumus? Or is it just NED. Speaking of NED, he does not have much to say today! At least NED is willing to admit to the tanking. Also, NED you might want to stay away from this BLOG, it seems to be changing you.
November 3rd, 2005 at 1:53 pmRyan - you value lies. You believe raising taxes will help the economy. You are anti-free trade. You believe killing babies is not a moral issue. You blame 911 on Bush, not the terrorists. You have shown more disdain for Cheney than you have Sadam. You believe that unless a Supreme Court fits into your liberal agenda, they do not have the right to sit on the high Court. You believe Bush lied about WMD, but Clinton and Kerry did not (contrary to evidence saying otherwise).
Ryan - you are a fascist smear merchant who should move to Palenstine since you think it’s all Israel’s fault.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:00 pmWow, with such an exhaustive list, it’s a wonder the rightwing AM talk radio circuit hasn’t begun a “truth tour” to counter such bad news coming from our liberal media. Oh, I forgot, they are still lost somewhere in Iraq. -Kevo
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:02 pmA new campaign: Send NED to Iraq.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:04 pmNED, you sneaky little devil! I like the way you slide those smear-posts of yours in then call the lefties here smear merchants like you did in #44. And calling them names like commies and terrorist sympathizers sure settles their hash. Nice job.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think most of them agree with you and are glad it is Bush and not Kerry who is president right now. Otherwise, the 2006 election would be swinging toward the Republicans and Kerry would be blamed for everything that is starting to go wrong right now. Looks like the dems are gaining in 2006 and almost any democrat will be a shoo-in for 2008-2016 so makes you wonder just who is in the drivers seat here.
I mean, what do you think of all those failures listed in this impressive, indepth article? Sad to say, NED honey, but I think junior’s “second term agenda” and “political capital” is shot to hell as well, don’t you? Explains what has happened to that cocky-assed smirk of his, too.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:08 pmWhy is that fascist republicans must always accuse others of fascism? Because they project their own radical traits on others to justify their radical beliefs.
It’s funny how everything they complain that liberals are about are anti-fascist ideals, and yet we’re supposedly ‘fascists’.
Definition of fascism - note this is ALSO THE DEFINITION OF BEING A REPUBLICAN
* exalts the nation and party above the individual (which is worthless), with the state apparatus being supreme.
* stresses loyalty to a single leader, and submission to a single nationalistic culture.
* engages in economic intervention through the creation of a Corporatist State
For anyone who wants to see where fascism fits on the political spectrum:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ancap_chart.JPG
You’ll notice that it is the juncture of rightwing, uber capitalist and totalitarian governments. In otherwords, it IS GeezassBush.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:10 pmI apologise if this is a stupid question but I am foreign to U.S. Law & public policies: If Bush and Administration makes so many fatal mistakes and public opinion is at an all-time low (35% approval) why not impeach Bush and replace with new leadership?? I just do not understand why the American people allow Bush and his cabinet to continue on with their ways.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:15 pmTroll school: Bring up, Clinton,Carter,Truman,FDR,and thoes ‘leftie’ cave men. Remind all how ‘good we have it’…and god is a republican. Play ‘down’ any truth or facts. Invade any non-lockstep bloggs, and always refer to rush and o’reiley for ‘fact’. Advise them, with threats if …the do not watch fox and MSM. Throw the flag and god at them over and over. NEVER talk about nixon or past republicans who have ‘dishonored’ our ‘blessed’ pary. God bless America, always, but not any other country. OK…go get them trolls, class dismissed.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:15 pm#54 - and you should be forced to live with the terrorists you sympathize with. How about Palestine?
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:18 pmOLD BUSHIE HAS TAKEN EVERYTHING AWAY FROM THE MIDDLE CLASS AND POOR AND GIVEN IT ALL THE RICH.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:24 pmHA! Heinz 57. Funny.
Anyway to answer your question, the house of representatives would have to vote on articles of impeachment and thanks to redistricting they no longer accurately represent the people of the US. Since it’s controlled by republicans they won’t start the impeachment process and thus even if only 1% of americans approved of bush has at least another year of fear mongering left. maybe with the mid-term elections that will change but probably not.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:24 pmWasn’t the prime minister of israel assassinated by an israeli terrorist? Yes he was. So does that mean israel shouldn’t live with itself?
NED and other Zionist Zealots are whackos. They are eugenics ethnicists just like hitler was. They see the palestinians in the same way hitler did, and that’s why she has no problem putting palestinians in concentration camps - as they currently are.
There are evil palestinians.
There are evil israelis.
There are evil muslims.
There are evil jews.
There are evil christians.
There are evil ….
But lets not forget that many of the palestinians are decendants of the phoenecians - who ORIGINALLY inhabited israel before the israelis migrated there from Egypt. The reality is they have just as much claim to the land as israel does. So who’s the terrorist now? NED’s the terrorist of course, because she’s radical, hysterical, irrational, bigotted and hateful.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:28 pm“you should be forced to live with the terrorists you sympathize with.”NED
NED, you’re a terrorist, and we’re forced to live with you - what’s your point? Wait, you’re a terrorist, you don’t have a point - you just hate, threaten and want to kill. Who is it this week you want to kill? Is it Iraqis? Or Palestinians? You want to kill so much, it’s hard to keep it straight.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:29 pmRyan - then, go live there. You are the radical my friend.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:30 pmWhy don’t you guys ignore NED? Can’t you see you feed it?
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:31 pmI always ignore NED its just fun to poke her on occassion to see what sort of idiocracy spews out
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:32 pmWhen I say jump, NED jumps, he/she is easy.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:39 pmI know an evangelical Christian with a pierced tongue, no joke.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:40 pmAll this in only one year! Will we survive three more? He’s gotta go.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:41 pmHyprocricy, widely accepted by right wingers and Christians. “We value the sanctity of life, and get me more ammo here”.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:43 pm“then, go live there. You are the radical my friend.
Comment by The Northeast Dilemma ”
Nah, both places are filled with radicals like you - it’s where YOU should live since you can’t seem to think about any domestic issues out of your obsession with the place. You keep bringing it up, personally I believe the place should be partitioned and the UN should keep both sides apart. Now if you went there to live with your fellow jewish zealots, that would just be fantastic. Now when are you leaving again?
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:45 pmYeah, NED is the typical radical religious person. She always accuses others of radical actions, while she and her friends act radically and support radical agendas. She’s a hypocrite, a liar, a zealot and a freak.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:45 pmIf NED is a lady, let me guess, stays at home, taken care of, manicured nails, jewels, controlling, was emotionally abused as a child, if not abused in other forms.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:46 pmI think NED must work for the post office, it’s the only thing that explains the ‘postal worker’ insanity that she seems to possess.

November 3rd, 2005 at 2:53 pmI have been reading, following Think Progress for a while now, and I finally feel compelled to post a comment. So, here I come:
NeD, I don’t know how you have the face to keep coming back here –everytime you post your talking points, they end up being soundly trashed. I would be embarrased to bring back the tax canard after your GNP/GDP fiasco (For those of you who missed it, look here: http://thinkprogress.org/2005/10/20/budget-pence/). Specially since most economist agree (including Republican economists) that it is better for the economy to increase tax and maintain public services, than to decrease government-sponsored spending. This is particularly true if tax increases are targeted at higher income taxpayers.
You have no credibility in economic matters.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:57 pmNeD,
The Bush administration and Saddam Hussein’s regime are equally despicable: They both fostered an environment where human rights violations are routine. It makes no difference that the people tortured by American troops are labeled “terrorists” –Hussein did the same thing. It is not a matter of who they are, but who Americans are. Is this what the US stands for now, torture, wanton killings, illegal imprisonments, willful disregard for international law and treaties? The Bush administration has turned the US into a rogue nation, guilty of war crimes.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:57 pmNeD,
It does not matter what Clinton et al said –back in 2002– about Hussein’s supposed WMDs. You are putting forth a logical fallacy, because what they said has no bearing to the central question of whether or not the Bush administration intentionally deceived the American public about said WMDs in order to invade Iraq, and whether or not the facts and intelligence were being fixed around the policy. To paraphrase Pres. Bush: What Clinton and his officials said is irrelevant.
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:58 pmNeD,
The Bush administration loves terrorists: Luis Posada Carriles was a CIA operative and anti-Castro terrorist who is wanted in Venezuela for blowing up a Cuban airliner in 1976 while in mid-air, killing all 73 people aboard. He was also involved in plots to kill Fidel Castro. He was also involved in the trafficking of cocaine to support the Contras in Nicaragua. Posada Carriles has been living in the US for years and the US will not deport him to face trial. Before you dismiss this by saying Castro and the Sandinistas are communists, ask yourself: What is the difference between the US plotting to kill a foreign leeader and Hussein plotting to kill Bush I? What is the difference between blowing a commercial airliner in mid-air, and flying it into a building? What is the difference between trafficking cocaine to finance the Contras, and trafficking it to finance an Islamic Jihad in the Middle East?
November 3rd, 2005 at 2:58 pmNED keeps coming back because abuse is her comfort zone. And she incites being abused.

Lets not forget that Osama and his gang of thugs were recruited, funded and trained thanks to the republicans under Reagan and Bush. Not only is Osama the direct product of republican mismanagement, but the fact he goes uncaptured shows how little they actually care about 9/11 or terrorism. It’s a convenient tool for republican fascism and propaganda - nothing more.
November 3rd, 2005 at 3:41 pmUh, nothing on Cindy Sheehan???
November 3rd, 2005 at 3:45 pmNed, in order to settle the central question of the Israeli/Palestinian issue, let me give you an athiestic, non-religious fanatic’s response; how about giving the parties involved one week to clear out, AND THEN WE TURN THE TEMPLE MOUNT INTO A SMOKING, RADIOACTIVE HOLE!
November 3rd, 2005 at 3:46 pmIf these guys can’t come to a settlement (and Isreal has ignored UN resolutions as often as Saddam),we should employ that same “shock and awe” that was so effective with the Iraqis. It would also remove a major obstacle to peace in the middle east. Plus, the rest of the world (except Britain) hates us anyway, so it’s no big loss now. If you disagree, why?
dano347,
That’s the ‘alien sci-fi’ solution of the 50s. Either we make world peace, or the alien wipes out the earth. The problem with fanatics is that they’d rather destroy everything than allow others to possess it. The republican fascists, the israeli fascists, and the islamic fascists are all the ‘poison the well’ type of freaks and morons. They’d find something else to fight about because they’re hateful and fearful. It isn’t really about the religious issues, it’s about their untreated psychosis.
November 3rd, 2005 at 4:07 pm#87 “If you disagree, why?”
NeD cannot agree to anything, to do so would be to admit that facts other than those of her own creation actually exist.

November 3rd, 2005 at 4:21 pmRyan,
No, I have not forgotten that Osama Bin Laden, back in the good ol’ days, was one of the “freedom fighters” backed up financially, politically, and militarily (remember those Stinger missiles?) by the US of A. They were also highly praised by that Republican/conservative cultural icon –Ronald Reagan.
Speaking of which, the political theme hasn’t changed since the days of Ronny in office: Them bad, we good. Them evil, we benevolent. Only “them” have changed. The enemy is now the “IslamoFascists” (whatever that means), instead of the communists.
This is typical propaganda, spewed by the people in power, bent on deceiving, distracting the public in order to advance their murderous, imperialistic policies.
November 3rd, 2005 at 4:26 pmDid anyone else see the Delay/Scanlon/Abramoff memo today? Apparently they don’t think much of conservative republican voters. These poor sickos who vote republican get what they deserve.
“The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees,†Scanlon wrote in the memo, which was read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. “Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them.â€

If it’s a war, then you don’t run it like the amateur comedy hour. The reason there are MORE terrorist attacks is that it was war fought on FABRICATED EVIDENCE. You don’t go to war just because it pleases you, which is EXACTLY what you and the rest of the Zionist freaks fought this one for. You were all mad because you blamed Iraq on the suicide bombers. This had NOTHING to do with WMDs, and everything to do with oil, ego and those concentration camps in the west bank you keep.
And once again, why aren’t you and your husband fighting in israel again? Why aren’t you fighting in Iraq? I here a lot of wind, propaganda and lies from your stupid fat mouth, but nothing where you actually concretely support the agenda. That makes you a chickenhawk hypocrite TwoTONya.
November 3rd, 2005 at 8:57 pm#104
So, if we’re in this “war on terrorism” for the next 10 or more years (as Rumsfeld and Bush have stated will be the case), and terrorism increases every year we occupy Iraq or other sovereign Muslim nations (the CIA and a number of intel reports state that terrorist acts will increase with the US’s continued occupation), how exactly is that winning?
Also, 65 to 100+ billion dollars a year (not adjusting for inflation) of added deficit spending required to occupy Iraq (add more money if we go into Syria, and lord forbid, Iran) equates to an added trillion+ dollars to our deficit. It sounds like this “war on terror” will destroy the US before ending terrorism.
To think that what we’re doing now is a winning strategy against terrorism is just plain idiotic. We played into Osama’s hand when we went into Iraq.
November 3rd, 2005 at 8:57 pm#104
We were supposed to turn Iraq into an allied client state, we have made the opposite.
Guess Mr. Rove forgot this passage from Machiavelli:
“Mercenary arms are useless and dangerous; and if one keeps his state founded on mercenary arms, one will never be firm or secure; for they are disunited, ambitious, without discipline, unfaithful; bold among friends, among enemies couardly; no fear of God, no faith with men; ruin is postponed only as long as attack is postponed; and in peace you are despoiled by them, in war by the enemy.”
November 3rd, 2005 at 9:07 pmDid I hear right? It was reported on Lou Dobbs tonight that the IEDs are so deadly and sophisticated that we will now have a 3-star general in charge instead of the 1-star and then everything will get better. Are they serious?!

These are the characteristics of the Bush supporter.

I have been thinking that if someone had a well-written, concise(?) chronology of what has happened over the last five years, it might give some people on the right something to think about. I know I couldn’t have imagined five years like this in my worst nightmare(just starting with 9/11). But maybe it is just me.

November 4th, 2005 at 12:09 pm“You have shown more disdain for Cheney than you have Sadam.”
I just found this forum. First comment:
Saddam isn’t an elected official of the US. Dick Cheney is. Saddam isn’t representing the ideals of my country. Cheney is supposed to be. Saddam, although we did provide him with Anthrax, wasn’t taxing me. Cheney is using my tax dollars. The point is Saddam wasn’t my problem. Cheney’s illegal and destructive actions and policies are my problem. There are horrific leaders all over the globe and we should disdain them all but we should focus on our own behavior first. We should take care of our own.
Which by-the-way I think would make a good slogan for the next election, “America, we take care of our own”. Show pictures from Katrina of people waiting on roof tops for rescue and then pictures of Bush doing what he does best, vacationing; have a running list of his failures, more poverty, more people without health insurance, more teen pregnancy, etc. going down the screen; then suggest that it is time “we take care of our own”, vote for (enter name of anyone not a Republican).
November 4th, 2005 at 12:26 pmAT ONE YEAR MARK, LIBBY AND ROVE ARE THE LEAST OF THEIR PROBLEMS
Failure, Incompetence and Corruption Define the Republican Regime
“We’ll borrow it.â€
With those three words, retired United States Senator Connie Mack, a Republican from Florida and the current chair of the President’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform summed up the economic policy of the Bush administration.
Senator Mack made his comments in response to questions from New York Times reporter Deborah Solomon about where the government would get the money it needed to “run this country,†in an interview recently published in the New York Times Sunday Magazine.
We’ll borrow it? Well, at least he is honest. Since President Bush took office in 2001 foreign debt has risen by $985 billion to $1.99 trillion dollars. And on Halloween, the United States Treasury Department announced that it plans to borrow a record $171 billion from the markets in the first quarter of 2006. And we will need to borrow more. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the President’s budget will result in a deficit of $317 billion in fiscal year 2005 and another deficit of $332 is projected deficit for 2006, and that’s before we spend a dime in Iraq or Afghanistan or pay for hurricane clean up and relief. Between now and 2015, the CBO projects that the President’s policies will result in total deficits of $2.6 trillion. Already under President Bush, the national debt has risen by more than $ 2 trillion and today stands at more than $8 trillion dollars. That means that every child born in the United States begins life with a debt of more than $26,000.
Yet in the face of these staggering deficits, the President continues to push tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, including a permanent repeal of the Estate Tax, which the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates would eliminate a trillion dollars in federal revenues while providing a windfall for the richest one-percent of Americans. Meanwhile the President’s Republican cronies in Congress are looking for savings by identifying deep cuts in the programs that serve the poorest Americans.
Things are no better on the foreign policy front where last week marked the death of the 2,000 soldier killed in the war in Iraq. Apparently built on shifting sands, the reasons for the war have changed from the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, to building democracy in the Middle East, to fighting Al Qaeda. Take your pick. Things are such a mess that Lawrence Wilkerson, the former deputy secretary of state under Colin Powell, in a speech to the New America Foundation and in a later opinion article recently described the foreign policy of the United States as being run by a “cabal†headed by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Wilkerson’s scathing remarks also made clear that he believes that the Bush administration has “courted disaster” in Iraq, Iran and North Korea and has “seriously weakened the nation’s decision making process.â€
Wilkerson’s words were no kinder in addressing domestic challenges where he labeled the Bush administration as “ so inept that it could not cope with a major domestic disaster, adding “If something comes along that is truly serious, something like a nuclear weapon going off in a major American city, or something like a major pandemic, you are going to see the ineptitude of this government in a way that will take you back to the Declaration of Independence.” One only needs to look at the response of the Bush administration to Hurricane Katrina to realize the incompetence of those in charge. But their incompetence is not limited to their inability to respond to emergencies. Their failures are evident in almost every facet of government that matters to those citizens who don’t happen to be among the nations richest one percent. Under president Bush, Poverty has increased every year, as has the number of those without health insurance. And according to a recently released report by the Economic Policy Institute, job growth has been anemic, with the United States adding only 1.3% more jobs today than in March 2001. Meanwhile wages and income have fallen for American workers.
The bottom line is that under President Bush and his Republican regime, the citizens of the United States are not better off, and we are not safer. The policies of this administration have damaged our economy and mortgaged our future. Their hubris has squandered the good will of our friends and allies and enraged our enemies, making the world a more dangerous place. Theirs is not a record of accomplishment, but one of incompetence, failure and corruption. Maybe the Republicans should be glad to have the CIA leak scandal in the headlines, maybe it will keep the American people from seeing what is really happening a little while longer. But they shouldn’t celebrate too soon. While Scooter Libby and Karl Rove may yet go to jail for their roles as the chief salesmen of this boondoggle, History, and hopefully voters in the next election, will judge all of those involved harshly.
November 4th, 2005 at 1:12 pmThere’s a lot of positive “anti-Bushite” energy on this board. I just hope it’s around in ‘06 when the country’s going to need it to rid ourselves of the right wing plutocratic traitors in our government. After all, we have only ourselves to blame for not having marched against those Bushite thugs in Florida in 2000. BTW don’t worry about NeD (he/she/or it) is finished!
November 4th, 2005 at 1:12 pmBush et al are not the problem. They are replaceable and will be replaced. The system is a bit antiquated. The rich people are ruling America (plutocracy not democracy)and will continue following each other into office. What does a wealthy presidential candidate have in common with the American people. Do you think they even understand that we live hand to mouth. Look behind that door in New Orleans that opened a crack and showed us that chaos is just around the corner. Still feel secure. It’s not your elected officials that are the problem, it’s the system that allows them to surface that needs fixing. It’s a system ripe with money. All are susceptible. Take the “avian flu crisis” for example. Do you honestly think any vaccines will be distributed strickly according to need. For crying out loud, they can distribute beer to anyone anywhere–cold. But until money can be made in large quantities, we will cough our way to hell. Many of you people are right-oil is the prize of our imperilistic move into Iraq. There is not much we can do but teach our children to change the system. We (baby boomers-mostly) have failed. By the way, I live in Maine, a Bush holiday resort. He is a pathetic figure at this point, not unlike most of us that lose control of the situation at hand. I wish I could have done more, but one day I turned around and realized that no one any near power cared. (If things go right,I may have Bird Flu Vaccine for a price)
November 4th, 2005 at 1:25 pmIt’s hard to imagine that on individual (actually several) can do so much damage to a country, its military and its goodwill vis-a-vis other nations in such a short time. What can possibly happen in the next 3 years?
November 4th, 2005 at 1:26 pmTo #120- Rockthrower
November 4th, 2005 at 2:00 pmVoters in the next election aren’t going to fix shit, give it a break. Who do you think is going to run, a Mahatma Ghandi type. Dem., Rep. or Independent, it will take more than a man/woman and a party to fix this mess. Rome is burning and the Crusades are coming back to haunt us. I know, let’s elect another Nero. What we really need is more drugs, alchohol, prostitution, religion and bird flu. Just enough of each to keep us quiet. If none of these are your taste, sports might work. We are a fragmented society and the rich and powerful will keep us that way. Three of us couldn’t agree on anything. We walked blindly into every war we ever fought. And by the way, the war dead do not contain a great deal of rich people.
“……I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust”….

November 4th, 2005 at 5:02 pmActual quote from a JFK speech in 1961:
“And we must face the fact that the United States is neither omnipotent nor omniscient–that we are only six percent of the world’s population–that we cannot impose our will upon the other ninety-four percent of mankind–that we cannot right every wrong or reverse each adversity–and that therefore there cannot be an American solution to every world problem.”
Oh to have leaders like this again.
November 4th, 2005 at 5:27 pmYou forget Traxy that JFK and his cronies almost got us all killed in the Cuban Missle Crisis. If it wasn’t for some wheeling dealing with our missles in Eastern Europe, we’d all be toast. Remember who wrote JFK’s speeches. The “poor boy” had trouble graduating Harvard, never mind figuring out we are six percent of anything. JFK may have possibly been the worst president we ever had. But he had great speech writers.
November 4th, 2005 at 5:38 pmExplain how he was one of the worst presidents of all time? How was it Kennedy’s fault that Cuba was hiding Russian nukes and how could he have handled it better? Bomb them back to the stone age?
November 4th, 2005 at 5:44 pmOf course Bush has a 35% approval rating. Didn’t you know? Saddam Hussein personally flew those planes into the World Trade Center. That’s why we had to invade Iraq.
Or so think the people who still support Bush.
November 4th, 2005 at 6:00 pmWe were a half hour from being bombed back to the stone age, not them. Don’t you remember watching it on TV. We secretly made deals with our missle placements it Eastern Europe that allievated the pressure in Cuba. Weren’t you paying attention. Don’t you remember sticking your head between your legs and getting under your desk, so you could survive a nuclear attack. This was brought to you by the presidential administrations in the late 50’s and early 60’s. (Ike and JFK, if I remember correctly) Ted Sorenson was that great speech writer that put a lot of glorius words in JFK’s mouth when it wasn’t full of Marilyn Monroe. What does it matter. Do you think JFK cared any more about us than Bush does? Harvard, Yale, Dem, Rep, it’s hard to notice any difference. Whether you sit down to eat at Walker’s Point or Hyannisport you don’t sit down to eat with me or the guy living in the Goodwill dumpster. These people have lost touch with us. Remember Mrs. Kerry’s comments when she thought no one was listening. Being president is being a puppet. It’s not the person who is wrong, it’s the system. JFK’s presidency was bought by his father, but again who cares. Change the system. Start with letting the popular vote count, not the electoral count. JFK was not the first nor the last whoremonger in the Whitehouse. These types of men bring no dignity to anything they do. Please remember that it was us that was almost bombed into the Stoneage Traxy. I don’t think JFK much cared about us. First off he couldn’t have cared much about his wife or children according to his behavior. With time we could examine his economic position or his total butchering of foreign policy. Like standing in front of the Germans and telling them that “he too is a doughnut.” I don’t have the time or the interest, because it’s not important. JFK was just another little rich boy manipulated by the large multi-national corporations that feed you media crap that he was great. I used to bump my head on the desk all the time trying to get under it. You need some bird flu vaccine Traxy, with you I could sell it and it doesn’t even have to work. Give me a break, JFK, for crying out loud how the hell do you think we got mired in Viet Nam.

instead of looking at each little point and then arguing/debating who’s belief is correct…why cant we ever pull together..step back and look at all this in one easy to read package : GW BUSH and our entire govt. has destryed all our basic rights as Americans and alot as Humans…they use OUR tax money for a war we dont want..and has bought the media out …to pump propaganda and blatant lies into our homes..%35 doesnt mean doo doo if nobody does anything about it!
