Nah, an investigation seems more appropriate – this is after all a matter of national security. Any ‘evidence’ from Priest wouldn’t answer the question of how/why and under what process this act of sedition occurred – right? I mean every republican this morning was pouncing on this as an act of treason, so clearly this is serious enough to warrant a formal investigation.
I say go for it! INVESTIGATE YET ANOTHER REPUBLICAN!

I would’ve like to have seen Sen. Levin release this information last year…he’s made a lot of sense since early in the process….but I don’t know why the information was kept secret back then.

I’ll have to research that more…but on your general point yes, the administration has been to quick to do a CYA by classification.

November 8th, 2005 at 5:01 pmI wish this administration would keep in mind that it is illegal to classify somethinig just to keep it out of the public domain or because it’s embarrassing. Documents and materials can only be classified, by law, if they pertain to national security.
And that’s NATIONAL security, not PERSONAL (as in reputation) security. I know this president believes them to be one and the same thing. But then, this president believes a lot of things that aren’t true.

As far as I understand it, the Congress does not have the right to declassify documents from the execute. As I understand it the CIA, etc. must actually declassify.
Here’s a quote for you:
“Levin called on the CIA to declassify, “to the extent possible, the whole report so the public can reach their own conclusions.” Duelfer testified privately in the afternoon before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.”
