Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

By Nico Pitney on Nov 8th, 2005 at 10:39 am

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

has filed a federal suit against Fox News, “claiming it harassed and discriminated against its female employees, creating a ‘hostile work environment because of their sex.’”

What do you expect when you employ O’Reilly?

  2. Anti Warhol says:

The best thing about this is that it will make people start talking about O’Falafel’s phone sex romps again. Hopefully, he’ll be too busy ranting about that to do another “Christmas Under Siege” segment.

  3. Punchy says:

    Can you say “Bill O’Lielly”?

  4. Ohioan says:

‘… Fox vice president, Joe Chillemi, “routinely used gross obscenities and vulgarities when describing women or their body parts” …’

I hope the “family values” crowd hears about this… but they probably won’t since they’d have to tune away from Fox News first …

  5. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Maybe instead of “Christmas Under Siege”, he’ll do “Lechery Under Siege”.

I can hear him now, “This is what it’s come to. You try to tell a woman she’s attractive, and the PC-police are all over you. And they’re led by these far-left, whacko websites that love to tell lies about yours truly that are just outrageous. What are you gonna do? Maybe it is time to retire.”

Yeah, Bill. Maybe it is. You won’t be missed.

Disclaimer: I have no evidence that Bill O’Reilly has anything to do with this lawsuit. But I do like to think so for humorous purposes, and that’s my right.

  6. Jeremy says:

—Fox News hosts Brit Hume and Bill O’Reilly recently turned their attention to their female co-hosts, remarking on their appearance, with O’Reilly asking the co-host of his nationally syndicated radio show, Lis Wiehl, to protest outside CBS studios in a bikini. Hume, appearing on Fox News’ DaySide, told co-host Juliet Huddy that he dressed up for just for her, stating: “One more chance for a man my age to be on with Juliet Huddy.”—

This is the news network that the so called “family value and moral conservatives” tune into for the daily dose of opinion.

    Hypocrites.

I would expect nothing less from these women haters. And any woman who would watch such trash should be ashamed, right wing or not. We are women first and then we are party affiliates. These are the same women who are happily giving up the rights that many of us fought so hard for.

We will suffer for forgetting our history. What are parents teaching the kids these days?

  9. Pete Bogs says:

They ought to use O’Reilly’s on-air goading of Wiehl as evidence… clear-cut sexual harassment there…

  10. progressive and proud says:

    I know Pete, right?

  11. Andrew C says:

Seriously, all joking aside… this quote is extremely distressing. People actually still think like this??

“At a department discussion about a segment on sexism in the workplace, Chillemi said that in choosing who to hire `if it came down between a man or a woman, of course I’d pick the man. The woman would most likely get pregnant and leave,’” according to the lawsuit.

Isn’t it 2005? WHAT THE HECK. This is not Colonial America or something.

  12. Joe Sixpack says:

Hey, O’Lielly, look here at what the “smear merchants” are saying about Faux News, the hate-based media. I for one will not stand for it. They did, after all, keep it “fair and balanced” by giving Gretta her own show. They told her she could keep it, too, as long as she didn’t mention anything about politics.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but does anyone think that she-man in men’s clothing (aka Hannity) was one of the signees to the lawsuit? I mean, if I wasn’t a “hannitized” conservative I would be asking that. I’m sure little allen combs would know for sure if his boss was involved.

  13. Terrytheturtle says:

So how do we relate this entrenched misogyny to a poll like this? http://www.maristpoll.marist.edu/usapolls/PZ051021.htm

28% of the country would not vote for a woman, no way no how. I don’t think Geena Davis can solve this ugly little statistic all by herself.

  14. jesus the leftist says:

Male coservatives want to roll back the clock on all human advancement; it gets in the way of their “fixed” competition. Old time religion and values to fill the void and dumb down challengers.
All from a deep seated fear of not being on top that can not be quelled.

  15. Zookeeper says:

What I want to know is why those hags on Fox wear so much lip gloss. Ugh.

  16. Mr. Evil says:

The women at Fox News are either going to be plaintiffs, witnesses or are going to stay on.

For those that decide to stay on I’ve lost any and all respect I may have had for them as journalists or whatever their capacity at Fox is and certainly as educated women. Those that stay in that environment by choice deserve to be harassed and humiliated. Why on Earth would any intelligent human being be even remotely associated with Fox News? Now we know for sure that Joe Chillemi and Brit Hume are consumate assholes just like Bill O’Reilly.

They seem to be just a bunch of rich, arrogant, republicans that seem to think they are above the law and human decency. Damn, where have I seen that before?

It sucks that women had to endure this abhorrant behavior but, I sure hope Sean Hannity had a hand in this.

  17. Marie says:

Will they even report on the suit on their channel?
These cretins are throwbacks to an era when married women were expected to rise no higher than to be the best houseservant to the man, and single women were virgins or prostitutes, either one available to fill the man’s desires.
I’d like to hear the values people explain this; more hypocrisy in their midst.

  18. Lex says:

Some perspective: I’ve covered some EEOC cases, and if I recall correctly, in our district (the Carolinas), only about one-half of 1 percent of complaints end up being litigated by the EEOC. The barriers to getting them to take your case are pretty high. That this case even got to this point probably says a lot about the strength of the evidence.

  19. Robert says:

Wouldn’t it just be poetry if the ACLU came to Fox’s Defense?

  20. Tigris Lily says:

The EEOC has filed suit against that Republican batallian, Fox News? They must think Clinton is still President! Apparently Bush overlooked this agency when he was doing his political housecleaning.

  21. Ryan Neat says:

    Robert,

Why not. The ACLU came to Limbaugh’s defense, despite the fact that he criticizes them almost daily as a partisan leftist organization. Just shows you the depths of hypocrisy, ignorance lunacy of republican fascism.

  22. Ryan Neat says:

Isn’t this suit really about the fact that Faux news harrassed these women because of their ‘lack of sex’? ;)

Republican men are such perverts, pigs and idiots.

  23. Pete Bogs says:

I’ve just read segments of the suit… now we see why neocons are so against workers having protection from harassment and discrimination – the bosses won’t get to have any fun anymore…

hypocrites! (man, how many times have I gotten to use THAT one lately!)
