They are living under the delusion that the country as a whole supports everything they want to do. Most of their support comes from single-issue people such as the anti-abortion people (religious conservatives), the anti-tax people (rich people), and the pro-war people (idiots). But I would be surprised if any of these groups also support the goals of the other two.
This is their Neocon-Enron Bill. Recall the Enron traders laughing about how Granny would not be able to pay the heating bills? Here are the neocons cutting food stamps and medicaid with one hand, saying the budget must be cut, and giving $70 Billion dollars to their richest, greediest, constituents with their other hand. I am hardly surprised they choked on it.
And slowly, with barely a thought of so doing, the earth's whole population twisted and writhed beneath the manipulation of night's black fingers and the white ones of day, with skeletons splintered and flesh reduced to pulp, as out of this unlikley problem, the answer, perfection, was slowly evolved through torture.
I'd love to survive on the federal budget. A trillion in debt and still solvent (or is that insolvent?). That would buy lots of cat food for this old geezer.

Chalabi, addressing a packed audience at the American Enterprise Institute, said he had offered in 2004 to answer questions before Congress and implied he would still do so.
Chalabi again denied allegations he passed US secrets to Iran and said charges he misled Washington with pre-war intelligence on Saddam's weapons of mass were an "urban myth."
"We are sorry for every American life that is lost in Iraq," he said.
AEI, a thinktank with close ties to the administration, has been Chalabi's political ally, backing his campaign to persuade the United States to oust Saddam's regime.

A broadly grinning Chalabi was introduced by AEI President Christopher DeMuth, who hailed him as a courageous democratic reformer "defamed" by unnamed US government agencies.

Here in the volunteer state, he is finished. He will never be president, ever. He has shown his true colors. He and Pat Robertson are of the same ilk. The moderate republicans (translation: the republicans who fear not getting re-elected) are backing away from the fringe neocon movement. People don't like being tricked and duped. It makes them angry, as well they should be.
"Conservative leadership in the House just announced they don’t have enough votes to pass their own budget."
