on delaying investigation into debunked Iraq intel: “This has been frustrating.” Hagel said, “There are very legitimate and critical questions that need to be answered. [...] That is the responsibility of governance. That’s part of leadership. And we don’t have answers for all those things.” [sub req'd]
Governance is for wonks and weenies. Government doesn’t work, it ain’t supposed to work, and we’ll prove it doesn’t work. See New Orleans?
Leadership is the key: leading your friends to the trough; cutting health funds from impotent grannies; extorting Indian tribes who are trying to speak to the government; and using that money to bribe your side to keep them in line. Like leading the sheep to slaughter, but the sheep don’t know what’s coming.
Hagel’s the traitor. He’s no “Republican”.
A government of the True Republicans, for the Republicans, and by the Republicans, shall not perish from this nation.
November 11th, 2005 at 12:58 pmI propose a trade. We get Hagel and they can have Zell Miller….
Whaddaya think?

November 11th, 2005 at 1:08 pmA slap is not good enough, they need to be brought down low enough to lick the boots of Americans. After the licking, try them for treason for they are the traitors of America.
November 11th, 2005 at 1:08 pm#2 – That’s a tough trade. Hagel I think comes with serious Diebold baggage, and some of us are big on electoral reform.
November 11th, 2005 at 1:14 pmBush just said in his speech today that it was only democrats who question the intel to go to war. Last time I checked, Hagel is a republican.
November 11th, 2005 at 1:16 pmAs much I may think Hagel is speaking honestly, let’s not forget that he is a front runner for the Republican ticket in 2008.
November 11th, 2005 at 1:27 pmCan you please publish a refutation of the points about Iraq Bush made in his speech this morning, where he said that critics of his policy are undermining the mission?
Thanks, we’d appreciate it.
November 11th, 2005 at 1:31 pm#1 Are you for real? The Republicans “SHOULD” perish from this Nation.
November 11th, 2005 at 1:41 pmSpeaking of rewriting history, here’s the reality of White House pressure on the CIA, the Niger uranium fraud, and al-Libi fabrications:

Here’s much more background into the White House and Congressional GOP attempts to stonewall investigations into the misuse of pre-war intelligence:

November 11th, 2005 at 1:42 pmSilly me, I figured #1 was using sarcasm. I don’t think much of Hagel, myself, but if we could get rid of feeble Zell without having to pay someone else big bucks to take him, I might agree. It wouldn’t much matter though, if he ran as a Democrat in Nebraska, he’d probably get defeated. So not much a trade.
On the threads message though, yea, good for Hagel. Repubs need to recognize what “the people” said very loudly on election day. I don’t mind if they don’t. It would just mean they will be booted from office and the majority come 11/06. Now that is something I can get behind…
November 11th, 2005 at 1:57 pmTime to start swiftboating Mr. Hagel.
November 11th, 2005 at 2:54 pmAt least Hagel has some sort of a conscience and a minor sense of responsibility. He’s certainly not the worst of the Republicans: he’s only conservative, not NeoCon. I don’t have much use for him, but at least he’s not a far-right zealot.
November 11th, 2005 at 3:23 pmMany may have forgotten another Nebraska GOP congressman’s views last year that radically departed from the bipolar ‘either you are with us or against us’ Bush mantra of the party robots. The mainstream media gave scant comment at the time but in Nebraska it shook up the party faithful.
Retired Congressman Doug Bereuter (R-1st Dist, NE), now President of the Asia Foundation, wrote a four page letter to his district constituents prior to retiring from his seat in 2004 explaining his forthright views that turned him against the war and administration. It is important to note that Bereuter was a senior member of the House Intelligence Committee and had a deep understanding of foreign affairs.
This Anti-war.com link will take you to Congressman Bereuter’s letter:

It is well worth a re-read particularly in the context of the reactions to Bush’s Veteran’s Day speech and that Congressman Bereuter wrote this some 14 months ago and before the 2004 elections.
November 11th, 2005 at 4:59 pmI agree with Marie, Hagel is running for prez in 08 and like all candidates he is distancing himself from Bushie.
Hagel votes along party lines and should not be considered as a candidate for anything.
