You have me coming in here trying to have a reasonable debate, and people just start calling me Nazi, fascist, KKK, and I read some calling for the execution of Bush and others.

Please, don’t tell me that this isn’t as extreme as the commenting at LGF. That still has nothing to do with the blog LGF itself. Of course it attracts commenters that are a bit on the fringe of the right, but blogs like this one attract the same thing from the opposite side.

Does that warrant me in calling ThinkProgress “Think Fascist Progress”? Of course not.

I mean seriously, if we go to DailyKos and Democratic Underground, tell me, please tell me, that you don’t find the same kind of appalling comments as you do on LGF. You are kidding yourself. It has nothing to do with LGF itself, and you know it.

I don’t remember the Bush administration attacking Scott Ritter, the wannabe child-molester. Shinseki wasn’t attacked either, he resigned honorably. Richard Clarke and Joe Wilson have lied their asses off for partisan purposes.

I had a very good reason for picking LGF and calling it Little Green Fascists… I read a bunch of postings on there once, without knowing anything about the blog or who ran it or what their political opinions were. They were calmly discussing the “Palestinian Problem” and what should be done about it.

Suggestions varied from tactical nukes, to a massacre of every non-Israeli living in the West Bank and the Gaza strip. There were no “moderate” voices raised. All there was was a bunch of people saying that “Genocide was the only solution”… There was no hint of Irony or Sarcasm anywhere in the postings. They just felt that killing everyone they had decided that they didn’t like was the only way forward. How do you feel about those “moderate” proposals?

HAve you ever heard “Beyond the Fringe”? In particular the “America” sketch always strikes me as being too true.

As a Brit living in America this is too true. What you call the Left is moderate to most of the rest of the world.

In the first place, most advertising agencies are beyond the means of the small to medium business owner. In the second place, who really cares what magazine and/or newspaper editors think. Using the internet, the little guy can distribute a news or feature story to a highly targeted local, regional, national or international audience without their assistance. What’s more, if they know what they’re doing, the copy they write normally ends up generating continuing readership because most it ends up getting and holding top search engine placement for six months or more.

The 15-month proconsulship of the CPA disbursed nearly $20 billion, two-thirds of it in cash, most of which came from the Development Fund for Iraq that had replaced the UN Oil for Food Program and from frozen and seized Iraqi assets. Most of the money was flown into Iraq on C-130s in huge plastic shrink-wrapped pallets holding 40 “cashpaks,” each cashpak having $1.6 million in $100 bills. Twelve billion dollars moved that way between May 2003 and June 2004, drawn from accounts administered by the New York Federal Reserve Bank. The $100 bills weighed an estimated 363 tons.

Once in Iraq, there was virtually no accountability over how the money was spent. There was also considerable money “off the books,” including as much as $4 billion from illegal oil exports. The CPA and the Iraqi State Oil Marketing Board, which it controlled, made a deliberate decision not to record or “meter” oil exports, an invitation to wholesale fraud and black marketeering.

Thus the country was awash in unaccountable money. British sources report that the CPA contracts that were not handed out to cronies were sold to the highest bidder, with bribes as high as $300,000 being demanded for particularly lucrative reconstruction contracts.
