Cheney gets heckled at speech,

Crooks & Liars has the video. The speech was for a public policy center honoring former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker. Baker’s famous quote? “What did the president know and when did he know it?

    Let’s take a poll:

How much longer before Cheney’s “health problems” force him to resign? Will he wait until Rove is indicted?

  2. John Ehrlichman says:

I love this trend of heckling the vP. Yay, U of Tennessee students!

  3. Chris in AZ says:

    heckling
    the dark lord,
    the epitome of evil,
the one guy in the world that would get osama to stutter “Man, that’s wrong, how could he live with himself…” or “why didn’t I think of that”
is like a fly attacking an, cough, elephant
…we need more than just heckling
…to see Checeny performing the Vet Day ceremonies almost brought this grown man to tears, what could be going through his mind while he helped carried the wreath…does the epitome of evil feel guilt…heckling is a start, but not nearly enough to get through to him

  4. progressive and proud says:

And all of you are very welcome. Cheney was NOT going to come here and get off easy. See, when a repub is heckled in TN, you better believe something is amiss. Let me tell you guys, it was something to behold and he was not happy. I wonder if he didn’t expect it? HA!

  5. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

With his approval rating around 19%, I suspect Cheney will be retiring due to “health problems” sooner rather than later.

Drudge is reporting that Bush and his Veep are on the outs.

[Gads! Why is everything the Bush Cabal does so much like the petty in-fighting that goes on in Junior High?]

  6. Chris in AZ says:

#5 jr high is when they stopped learning and began their free ride to the top, is only expected that they will not mature beyond jr high

  7. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

    #6 – Ah. Clarity.

… and here I thought it might be arrested development due to the onset of drug use around the age of 12 years.

  8. David B says:

Cheney was not happy because he is a megalomaniac. He above us all and never should be questioned. Hooray for the dissenters, I don’t know how you cleared security but congrats. Now lets raze the crap out of chimpus at a public address.

  9. Zookeeper says:

GWB sent the second string screeners with Cheney this time. That’ll teach ‘im.

  10. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#3 yeah, me, too. I don’t know who’s “brilliant” idea it was to have the President and Vice President switch schedules on Veterans Day, but that must be what happened: The Vice President lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (that was hard to watch) and the President goes out and launches into a vile, disgusting attack on everyone who disagreed with him, even going so far as to question the patriotism of all who didn’t support his decision to go to war.

Actually, I feel that the decision to invade Iraq and remove Saddam was made the day Dick Cheney picked himself to be George W. Bush’s 2000 running mate. After that, he (Mr. Cheney) just had to pick the right people for the cabinet (”right” by their standards).

  11. Punchy says:

Uh…the Admin better get used to this. Bush took it on the chin when he went to So Am. If he dares to try Europe, they’ll roast his ass there, too. I’m going to guess The Far East will be at best indifferent, if not hostile.

For those of you without access to a lot of foreigners’ opinions, let me be the one to tell you how universally hated this man is. Detested with strong passions. This guy is the epitome of the DEVIL to many of my coworkers who come from India, Europe, Central Africa, and Canada…

  12. Marie says:

Wayne and Chris, count me in on those comments too. Cheney was so out of place in laying the wreath — I too wondered what was going through his evil, conniving mind. Georgie “bad boy” Bush was out making his trite stump speeches again. Same old, same old, pointing fingers, refusing to accept his own responsibility. He is so much like a spoiled brat, it’s hard to take any more.
But to the topic of Cheney’s being heckled — priceless.

  13. progressive and proud says:

I know, Punchy, we are embarrassed.

  14. Ugh says:

Personally, I hate hecklers, no matter who the heckelee is. Let the person speak, if you don’t like what he/she has to say then respond in some sort of constructive manner.

  15. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#14 So then people who like what the speaker is saying shouldn’t interrupt him for applause? Can’t have it both ways. If you want to hear the applause, then you’ve got to hear the heckling, too. It’s only fair.

  16. Spudge_Boy says:

To address a couple of posts here, I give you “Fun with Facts tm”.

John Dean said it exactly right. Cheney will retire if the senate goes to the Democrats in 2006:

    http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/11/14.html#a5863

As for Bush’s Veteran’s Day speech, he already gave almost the exact speech on October 6, 2005:

    http://www.sadlyno.com/archives/002012.html

The speech one is hilarious. I guess old George Bush needs a warm up speech.

  17. Spudge_Boy says:

“Personally, I hate hecklers, no matter who the heckelee is. Let the person speak, if you don’t like what he/she has to say then respond in some sort of constructive manner.”

    Ugh,

You cannot respond to speeches. That is why they are called speeches and not conversations. Because old Dick wouldn’t talk to any of the common folk, ever.

  18. Pablo in Mexico says:

Not only should he be heckled every time he is in public, but he should be pelted with gravel and stones too.

  19. JimB says:

#18 I think we should throw pennies. He likes taking money from the public, right? A dollar would get you 100 shots! What a deal!

  20. Patrick J. Fitzgerald says:

These SOB’s (sweet old boys) lie so much that they can’t tell when they are telling the truth anymore.

    http://patrickjfitzgerald.blogspot.com

  21. Marie says:

All right, in a civilized society, speeches shouldn’t be interrupted by hecklers (even though I cheer the hecklers today!) but on the other hand, speeches should therefore not be interrupted by applause either.
Our leaders read their speeches with pauses at intervals to allow for applause – in fact, they are written that way — so allowing for and even planning on interruptions for applause, leaves the door open for heckling as well, and no one deserves heckling more than Darth Vader Cheney — a few rotten tomatoes, and cream pies would be in order also.

  22. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#20 Yeah, and we can see how that’s become a problem for you, Mr. Fitzgerald.

Will we ever learn the truth, or has a certain justice obstructor made that all but impossible?

  23. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#21 I agree, Marie. You have to take the good with the bad if you want to go into public life. Though I’m not sure that Mr. Cheney views his job as “public life” considering how hard he tries to stay out of the public eye. The speeches are written with breaks for applause, they ought to start writing them with comeback lines for hecklers who point out the lies.

And besides, rude or not, if someone is going to stand at a podium and say something that is untrue (and I don’t know what he said but that doesn’t matter) in order to convince you of a point of view, then they deserve to be challenged. Otherwise their audience will walk away thinking they heard some good points, never knowing they were misled.

So who heckled him, Senator Pat Leahy?

  24. Theresa says:

#8, They cleared security because no one has the technoology (yet) to read into our minds to see what we will say (or do).

    Theresa

  25. Patrick J. Fitzgerald says:

#22 – Tell me about it! I think the only honest people in this town left with the Carter Administration.

  26. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#25 I think things really started to go downhill when word got out that Richard Mellon Scaife was paying big money to spread the lies, distortions and half-truths that make up the basis of the conservative viewpoint.

I think the poor man got a bum rap, personally. He was elected in ‘76? Is that right? I was 10 years old. I LOVED the man!
He got stuck with the clean up of Nixon/Ford.
He was doomed, unfortunately. He’s a man of peace. The hostage situation was his downfall. The gas problem… REPUB cleanup.

I’ll never forget the Begin/ Sadat handshake. THAT was history in the making…!

I just think he was given an impossible road.
Anyway, I wish he could help now…………..

Bush raps China over freedom, vows to promote democracy in Asia

    By Ron Hutcheson

    Knight Ridder Newspapers

KYOTO, Japan – President Bush brought his freedom agenda to Asia on Wednesday, taking a swipe at China while extolling Japan as an example of freedom’s power.

Setting the tone for a four-nation swing through the region, Bush told Asian leaders that freedom is on the march and cannot be stopped in their part of the world. He bluntly told Chinese leaders that economic freedom in China would inevitably break their hold on power.

  31. The Muse says:

Cheney walked right into that one didn’t he? Every time he pokes his fat head out of the spider hole, there’s a good American there to tell him to F-off.

#14, your right. When he finished, then tell him to:”Go f*** yourself mr cheney.”

  42. progressive and proud says:

#14 This is the only way we can voice our opinion with this admin. They don’t allow dissent and set up their speeches with freaks that will clap as soon as they are told to. He actually has to wait a moment until the crowd can figure out when to applaud. Anyone who wishes to oppose is shuffled off about a mile away. The security is enormous and they love to push people around.

This is the only way, like a protest, our opinions will ever be heard. It was very satisfying. To actually know that he personally is hearing what you think is powerful and AMERICAN.

  43. progressive and proud says:

wisedup, I’m not waiting any longer. He gets the screw you right up front.

  44. Steven Souter says:

I don’t think heckling is appropriate. It makes the hecklers look foolish and childish. Why not try something more constructive.

The authors of this site are being constructive. I think alot of the posters are too filled with hate to be constructive though.

  46. Kansas Gallop says:

It is amazing how Bush is trying to promote “freedom” during his trips to other countries and in America, Bush and the Republicans are doing everything they can to take “our freedom” away from Americans.

  47. Steven Souter says:

#48 – that’s terrible what they did to Michael Steele. Just because someone is not progressive is not a reason throw oreos of all things at them. It is racism, at it’s worst and makes me ashamed to be a Democrat.

    WAKE UP MISS AMERICA

    REVELATION CHAPTER 18

    ——————————————————————————–
1 ¶ And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 ¶ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
    22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
