Chalabi is the only hope the Neocons have to try to break even financially on the Iraq war disaster.

America will pull out of Iraq without solving civil rights problems(primary objective publicly) or making money off oil(actual objective). It will be a fatal blow to the efforts of PNAC.

  3. Darwin says:

This plagiarizes a British 19th century position: “England has no permanent friends; England has no permanent enemies; England ony has permanent interests”, or something like that from either a Disraeli or a Gladstone speech, I do not recall.

Very different from a Bush administration position, which could be: “We have no friends, only enemies”. Or from a Blair position: “We only have one friend, the US of A”, a declaration which would cement Blair’s position as Bush’s poodle.

I would think that this Chalabi quote was just a witticism, true as it may be.

What the hell was Ariana doing having dinner with this blowhard?

  5. progressive and proud says:

Blair is such a puss. His days are numbered too. People all over the world are uniting and I would have never guess this is how it would happen. Other than Iraq, of course, they want us the hell out and their money back. Too bad for Chalabi that he underestimated Bush/Cheney’s greed. Oopsy. Ariana Huffington has a good post about her dinner with the war guru himself.

“No,” he kept insisting, “we need the Americans to protect us from our neighbors. From Syria, from Saudi Arabia, from Iran.”

Now, Call me stoopid, but What he says here is Pure Hypocrisy. The United States was protecting them fom Saudi and Syria with embargos and the controlled Airspace over Iraq.

Yet, its the War he wanted with IRAQ, that is causing the Current Problem.

And WHY does the He speak to the CFR and not the congress, or the People?

Where is a Transcript of the Chalabi speech for the Public View?

WHY is the State Department spending a small fortune helping to guard A Known Crook, and Obvious Radical Ideologue?

    BREAKING NEWS!!!!

Colin Powell’s Tape Shows Iraqis ‘Evacuating’ WMDs

Bush officials have done such a poor job defending themselves against charges they lied about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction that even their supporters seem to have forgotten about some of the most compelling WMD evidence.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, for instance, keeps apologizing for his speech to the United Nations on the eve of the Iraq war. But at least one chilling bit of evidence he introduced there has never been refuted.

Here’s how Powell introduced his case on Feb. 5, 2003:

POWELL: Let me begin by playing a tape for you. What you’re about to hear is a conversation that my government monitored. It takes place on November 26 [2002], on the day before United Nations teams resumed inspections in Iraq.

The conversation involves two senior officers, a colonel and a brigadier general, from Iraq’s elite military unit, the Republican Guard.
    TAPE TRANSCRIPT:

IRAQI COLONEL : About this committee that is coming with [U.N. nuclear weapons inspector] Mohamed ElBaradei.

    IRAQI GENERAL : Yeah, yeah.

COL: We have this modified vehicle. What do we say if one of them sees it?

    GEN: You didn’t get a modified… You don’t have a modified…
COL: By God, I have one.

    GEN: Which? From the workshop…?

    COL: From the al-Kindi Company

GEN: Yeah, yeah. I’ll come to you in the morning. I have some comments. I’m worried you all have something left.

COL: We evacuated everything. We don’t have anything left. [END OF POWELL TAPE EXCERPT]

What type of “modified vehicle” do Iraq war critics think Saddam’s general was worried about? A souped-up 1967 Mustang?

And what, pray tell, do they think Saddam’s colonel was referring to when he said, “We evacuated everything. We don’t have anything left”?

[White House political adviser] Karl Rove had tipped his hand earlier by stating that the war on terrorism could bring political benefits as well. The president’s undeniable goal was to convince the American people that war was necessary— and necessary soon, because soon-to-be-acquired nuclear weapons in the hands of Saddam Hussein could easily be handed off to terrorists.

This conclusion was not supported by the facts, but the intelligence could be retrofitted to support it. Greg Thielmann, former director of the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research, put it bluntly last July. He said, “Some of the fault lies with the performance of the intelligence community, but most of it lies with the way senior officials misused the information they were provided.” He said, “They surveyed the data, and picked out what they liked. The whole thing was bizarre. The secretary of defense had this huge Defense Intelligence Agency, and he went around it.” Thielmann also said, “This administration has had a faith-based intelligence attitude, its top-down use of intelligence: we know the answers; give us the intelligence to support those answers. … Going down the list of administration deficiencies, or distortions, one has to talk about, first and foremost, the nuclear threat being hyped,” he said.
So, some of the CFR ILK Have Known as Well about the “Intelligence”

  11. ElectricBassPlayer says:

#9, if you believe your position so strongly, then why are the Republicans fighting stage 2 of the investigation into the run up to the war?

I’m proud to be an American too, but not proud of how we were misled into war. If you honestly believe we weren’t, then you should fully support a non-partisan, no-holds-barred investigation into what happened, and who said what, and when they said it — including Democratic lawmakers.

  12. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

Chalabi learned well from his Aristocratic Overlords (BushCo). Yes, there _are_ only shared interested between these thieves.

Remember how Reagan liked Noriega? Then invaded Panama? Remember how Reagan like Saddam? Then the Sainted #43 invaded Iraq? Chalabi better watch his a**!

  13. ElectricBassPlayer says:

    #9, you also said

(quote) What type of “modified vehicle” do Iraq war critics think Saddam’s general was worried about? A souped-up 1967 Mustang?

And what, pray tell, do they think Saddam’s colonel was referring to when he said, “We evacuated everything. We don’t have anything left”? (endquote)

Yeah, it’s too bad the UN weapons inspectors were never allowed to finish their investigation — they were told to leave by the Bush administration due to the imminence of the invasion. It may be instructive to note that Bush’s own Iraq Survey Group, led by David Kay, never found any evidence of mobile labs after the first phase of the wwar. Of course, by then, they may have been evacuated to Syria, and the Iraqis may have been smart enough to remove every trace of documentation on these supposed modified vehicles.

But that’s as likely as the whole thing being a hoax, a setup, a lie in a string of lies.

Is it too much to ask, to stay on topic?

“It is the nature of ambition to make men liars and cheats, to hide the truth in their breasts, and show, like jugglers, another thing in their mouths, to cut all friendships and enmities to the measure of their own interest, and to make a good countenance without the help of good will.”
    Sallust (86 BC – 34 BC)

  15. Martin Ostrye says:

You can be sure Huffington’s meeting with Chalabi will make a return visit, like Rumsfeld’s handshake with Saddam. She has now punctured her balloon of credibility. I’m sure Russert and Judy Miller are having a good laugh. The only interest Chalabi has is being the next Saddam.

Chinese authorities also cite U.S. support for pro-democracy uprisings in Central Asia. A former Chinese ambassador to Washington, Li Daoyu, said the United States was using China as a scapegoat to bolster its regional presence.

Bush raps China over freedom, vows to promote democracy in Asia

    By Ron Hutcheson

    Knight Ridder Newspapers

KYOTO, Japan – President Bush brought his freedom agenda to Asia on Wednesday, taking a swipe at China while extolling Japan as an example of freedom’s power.

Setting the tone for a four-nation swing through the region, Bush told Asian leaders that freedom is on the march and cannot be stopped in their part of the world. He bluntly told Chinese leaders that economic freedom in China would inevitably break their hold on power.

  19. Don says:

1 ¶ And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 ¶ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
    22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
