"'Stay the course' is not a strategy. It's a slogan."

    -Sen. Carl Levin

  2. FedUp Says:

It's time to start undoing the damage this administration has done. We have to leave Iraq, even though doing so will subject us to ridicule for decades to come.

Bush must resign or be impeached. We need to get started as soon as possible on rebuilding our country. The best way to send a message to the world that we are not the barbarians they think we are is to call for Bush's impeachment.

    It's time, Republican or Democrat.

  3. The other Kerery Says:

"How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Iraq? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"

  4. Opie Says:

Althogh Murtha is a democraft, perhaps the pressure will increase on Bush to formulate some sort of gameplan, all because many republicans are up for re-election next year. Just goes to show you where the priorities are -- if there weren't mid-term elections in 12 months, there likely wouldn't be a similar drumroll by republicans for Bush to think about what's best for this country.

  5. RemoveBush Says:

#4 Don't count on the Republicans calling for a time table. They have re-worded the Democrats documents to state that we would remain as long as needed instead of the orginal wording we would not stay indefinately.

The Republicans cannot see the forest through the trees.

  6. Average TV Viewer Says:

Noone wants out of Iraq more than the Republicans. But we have to do this F*CKED up song and dance for the world to see before they do it.

  7. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

    BushCo issues jingoistic statements.

John Murtha just shed a little truthful light.

It's about time someone stood up and caused those Bush-loving cockroaches to scatter.

  8. Zookeeper Says:

Well said Rep. Murtha. Brace yourself for the smear campaign.

  9. Ringo Says:

Bravo to him for speaking up!

  10. . Says:

Cut and run. Cut and run. Stupid!

  11. Ringo Says:

#11. "." Based on this post, I'm guessing you haven't hit puberty yet. Cat got your tongue? Don't you want to cut loose and tear John Murtha to shreds? What? No hook? Nothing you can say? Then go away and let the adults here have a discussion.

  12. Ryan Neat Says:

Sit and Die, Sit and Die. REALLY STUPID!

  13. Marie Says:

#11 Trolls can only speak in slogans they hear from the RNC, FOX and Lintball.

"IT IS TIME TO BRING THEM HOME"
    Hurrah!!
Seventy three per cent of Democrats want us out of Iraq but this will be the first Dem rep to call for immediate withdrawal. This announcement will have other Dem reps and particularly the Dem chicken hawk senators pissing in their pants like little boys caught doing something naughty behind the barn.
The Nation magazine has just announced that it will not support any candidate for national office who does not make a speedy end to the war in Iraq a major issue in his or her campaign, so that we can end this colonial-style occupation which has become a moral, political and financial catastrophe.
Your support of Rep. Murtha and the Nation would help build the momentum for peace.

  15. GDM Says:

Thank you Rep. Murtha. He hit the nail right on the head. Our troops have suffered enough. They are suffering a great price for Bush's unilateral approach to this disaster. Time to declare victory and get out. Iraq will never take responsibility of their own security if we're there. I also like what he said about "The Dick" Cheney:

"I like guys who've never been there that criticize us who've been there. I like that. I like guys who got five deferments and never been there and send people to war, and then don't like to hear suggestions about what needs to be done."

    'Nuff said.

  16. Spudge_Boy Says:

Murtha, a true American. He is the kind of people we need leading htis great nation. Somebody who knows that you don't just willy nilly go about war. You plan a war. If the plan doesn't look solid, you don't go. You don't start a war because of a threat, you go to war once there is imminent danger, not because there might be a threat someday.

    Cheers to Murtha!

  17. IraqVet Says:

Who speaks for the soldiers, if they cannot do it for themselves?

I see parents on TV who speak of their sons and daughters committment to the service that WE all currently share...But, when we return home, there are no parades, no speeches, no heroic welcome...Only silence and months on non-ending paranoia from the fact that a bomb is in a car that you park next to at Wal-Mart!

No one is speaking about the psychological trauma or lost marriages or broken families from the neo-conservatives who claim to be a champion of family values. Where are they when my soldiers are alone and desperate for answers of what did we accomplish?

CONFUSING? Imagine waking up in a world to protect a Haliburton employee that makes approx. 10 times what you do, but they are more important to Iraq than the soldiers who take the risks to protect them! No voice, no option, only service to an oath that strips us of our freedoms as an individual in our society...

Someone spoke up for us today? The lamp of freedom has broken the darkness of deceit and tyranny! For those who would challenge that are no better than the enemy we face in Iraq! Too bad the majority of American citizens do not see that revelation, and join the chorus of change for an administration that has muted the truth for so long...

  18. kindness Says:

I was just over looking at what the conservatives are saying about this at RedState and one of the idiots is calling for the jailing and execution for reasons of treason for people who speak out against the war.

I can't say anything to'em cause they booted me a long time ago, but if anyone here hasn't told them what they think, NOW may be a good time to sign up to these feeble nazi's and tell them what YOU DO think. Beware, if you are truthful, you won't last more than a day. Me, I lasted a month.

  19. David B Says:

Thank you Rep. Murtha, you and Cindy Sheehan both have great courage.

  20. RichB in Carroll County md Says:

  21. Ryan Neat Says:

kindness, the redstate folks are retarded, and have very short memories. These are just a few quotes, there are MANY more. Republican politicians are a bunch of whiney wusses when they aren't in charge, so unless the redstate retards are willing to lock up all of the republicans who disrespected Clinton, then they're just fvcking hypocrites!

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."

    -Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)

"You can support the troops but not the president"

    -Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)

"My job as majority leader is be supportive of our troops, try to have input as decisions are made and to look at those decisions after they're made ... not to march in lock step with everything the president decides to do."

    -Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our overextended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"

    -Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"

    -Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

"President Clinton is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy."

    -Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)

"I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginning...I didn't think we had done enough in the diplomatic area."

    -Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

"No goal, no objective, not until we have those things and a compelling case is made, then I say, back out of it, because innocent people are going to die for nothing. That's why I'm against it."

    -Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/5/99
