Appearing on CNN, Donald Rumsfeld defended Rep. Jean Schmidt’s personal attack on Rep. Jack Murtha from the House floor:
BLITZER: Well, the — one of the Republican Congresswomen, Jean Schmidt of Ohio, basically called him [Murtha] a coward.
RUMSFELD: I don’t think that’s correct. I think she quoted somebody.
BLITZER: She quoted a letter that — she got a letter. But she read it…
(CROSSTALK)
RUMSFELD: It didn’t even refer to Congressman Murtha.
As Wolf Blitzer noted, Schmidt’s comments referred directly to Murtha. Here’s what she said:
A few minutes ago I received a call from Colonel Danny Bubp, Ohio Representative from the 88th district in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do.
Even Jean Schmidt eventually figured our her smear wasn’t worth defending and asked for her remarks to be struck from the record. She’s a step ahead of Rumsfeld.
UPDATE: Rumsfeld also defended Schmidt on Face the Nation, again claiming she didn’t mention Murtha’s name. No one corrected him:
SCHIEFFER: Well, do you think he deserves an apology?
RUMSFELD: Who?
SCHIEFFER: Murtha.
RUMSFELD: I don’t know why. I haven’t heard…
SCHIEFFER: He’s being called a coward (inaudible)…
RUMSFELD: Oh, he was not. He was not.
SCHIEFFER: Well, that was certainly the implication, Mr. Secretary.
RUMSFELD: Well, I don’t believe he was called a coward. I’m told that the person apologized who quoted somebody else, not even mentioning Murtha. So I think your characterization is (inaudible) not fair.
Murtha had a great rebuttal to Rumsfeld on Meet the Press.
After Tim repeated Rumsfeld's assertion that he had given the troops everything they needed, Murtha said
'Come on Tim' in way that clearly asked Tim why he was repeating Rumsfeld's lies.
Murtha showed how people should not put up with Russert's BS or that of the administration.
Incidently, read Mrs Greenspan's book for stories of how Russert is in bed with all of these criminals.

November 20th, 2005 at 4:02 pmHere's the exact quote and the link...
MR. RUSSERT: Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld said he's given the troops, the commanders on the ground, everything they've requested, including troop levels.
REP. MURTHA: Tim, Tim, come on. They fired Shinseki when he said they needed 200,000 troops. They had 44,000 shortage of armored vests. They had no--one brigade had one jammer in it. They had no--I mean, that's what the troops told me. I came back and they started to come up with that stuff. People had to buy their own armor. I mean, we had a young fella, and this is a tragic story. He's blinded and lost his foot. Walter Reed did everything and they're doing a marvelous job rehabilitating people there. But they put him out in the early stages of the war, and he went home and nobody was home. His father was in jail and there was nobody at home, he was by himself. But they sent him to John Hopkins to see--maybe he could see because they're one of the best in the world. They started sending him bills. And then they sent a collection agency

November 20th, 2005 at 4:33 pmThese guys had better get their shit together. They think they can just continue tao tell lie after lie. It is incredible that they are still using the same tactics after they have clearly failed.
If we had a PR plan at work that was not working, we would change or plan to something that does work.
I would not hire these guys, as they cannot cope with change.
They would cause a company to fail.

I also love how Rummy tries to make himself sound so innocent. Rummie, give it a rest, we all know you are a jackass to your subordinates.

November 20th, 2005 at 5:15 pmAlmost the worst part is that the Daily Show is on vacation so we won't even have the glaring in your face Rummy pair of matching statements--first what she said, then what he claims she said.

November 20th, 2005 at 5:21 pmHummmph. That picture of Jean shown here sure isn't as flattering as the one taken about 20 years ago she used for her election posters.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does she look just a little uptight and frustrated to you? I mean, maybe hubby-stockbroker Peter Schmidt really ought to start laying some pipe at home instead of having her run her frustrations off in all those marathons. Just a constructive thought, here.
November 20th, 2005 at 5:25 pmSome comedians have already compared the ridiculous outfit of "Mean Jean" to a pair of USA gymnastics warmups. I compare them to figure skating warmups, so that her permanent political nickname from this day forward is "Jean 'double kowtow' (rhymes with double Salchow) Schmidt."
By the way, I never referred to her in this post. Trust me on it.

I don't think Rep Murtha had to defend his position one bit. I think he is trying to get his opinion out to as many American eyes as he can.
He should go on every talk show in the nation and continue to bring the truth to the masses.
November 20th, 2005 at 5:33 pmThis isn't really a Republican issue or a Democratic issue anymore. The bottom line is the American Public wants the troops home in some orderly fashion. We certainly will not pull out before the end of the year. But I guarentee you the Republicans see the writing on the wall, and we will essentially be out of Iraq, to the nearest staging areas by election day 2006. You can count on it.

I just saw that report also, but can't find anymore information. Does anybody have a link?
November 20th, 2005 at 5:58 pmDid anyone watch Saturday Night Live last night? During the Weekend Update segment, they showed the clip and also, in an exaggerated clip, Rachel Dratch, as Schmidt, being pelted by paper cups as she talked some gobbelygook including blasting the Beatles.
I was hoping they would have thrown some water or a pie in her face, but that should be reserved for the real Jean Schmidt.
November 20th, 2005 at 6:02 pmSo, the only thing I can find is a news piece from the Associated Press does not confirm Al-Zarqawi's death. It only speculates with lose wording like this:
"A U.S. official said Sunday that efforts were under way to determine if terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was among the dead."
and
"In Washington, a U.S. official said the identities of the terror suspects killed was unknown. Asked if they could include al-Zarqawi, the official replied: "There are efforts under way to determine if he was killed.""

We can keep our fingers crossed thatthis bastard is dead. That would be a start, but we still need to cut off the head. bin Laden and al-Zawahri are the president and vice president, al-Zarqawi is a general.
November 20th, 2005 at 6:05 pmLadies please skip this comment. I apologize for this thought but I have been chuckling about it since the first post with "Mean Jean's" picture. It looks to me like she is auditioning for a porno film or for DUHbya's equivalent to Monica.

November 20th, 2005 at 7:38 pmThe biggest tragedy here is that Schieffert didn't press the issue more. He had a change to call out Rumsfeld and Schimdt using strong language and blew it. It's like when MSGOP caught Cheney lying and didn't go in for the kill. The Republicans will continue their path to dictatorship if the media doesn't go in for the kill when they have the chance.

Locked doors thwart Bush’s bid to duck question
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ wp-dyn/ content/ article/ 2005/ 11/ 20/ AR2005112000211.html
BEIJING (Reuters) - Irked by a reporter who told him he seemed to be "off his game" at a Beijing public appearance, President George W. Bush sought to make a hasty exit from a news conference but was thwarted by locked doors.
At the end of a day of meetings with Chinese President Hu Jintao and other Chinese officials, Bush held a session with a small group of U.S. reporters and spoke at length about issues like religious freedom, Iraq and the Chinese currency.
The final reporter he called on critiqued Bush's performance earlier in the day when he stood next to Hu in the Great Hall of the People on Tiananmen Square to deliver a statement.
"Respectfully, sir -- you know we're always respectful -- in your statement this morning with President Hu, you seemed a little off your game, you seemed to hurry through your statement. There was a lack of enthusiasm. Was something bothering you?" he asked.
"Have you ever heard of jet lag?" Bush responded. "Well, good. That answers your question."
The president then recited a list of things of that he viewed as positive developments from his Beijing meetings, including cooperation on North Korean nuclear disarmament and the ability to have "frank discussions" with his Chinese counterpart.
When the reporter asked for "a very quick follow-up," Bush cut him off by thanking the press corps and telling the reporter "No you may not," as he strode toward a set of double doors leading out of the room.
The only problem was that they were locked.
"I was trying to escape. Obviously, it didn't work," Bush quipped, facing reporters again until an aide rescued him by pointing to him toward the correct door.

By the Documents Ive looked at, official and other wise, Bushco and their Neo-Con Hawks "Slide-Ruled" the War. To me, in my slightly, ok, maybe alot, ways this Looks Like McNamara all over again.
BTW wasnt Wolfowitz and Mcnamara both given Positions with World Bank? -Aj
THE IRAQ WAR WAS FOR THE OIL. PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
November 21st, 2005 at 2:38 pmHow else do you explain that Cheney pushed for all of the military and intelligence cuts under Clinton, only to claim the opposite now? You’ve been duped my friend, and I feel sorry for you.
Comment by Ryan "Big Fat Liar" Neat
Cheney pushed for cuts under Clinton? I didn't know Dick worked for Bill. I think you must be insane. I hear some of that homosexual STD stuff you've got does that. I almost feel sorry for you.
November 21st, 2005 at 3:58 pmClinton rocks! He is more popular as a president than the president himself. I do understand why the trolls talk of him often. I do so love hearing his name.
November 21st, 2005 at 4:03 pm[...] What’s even better is when a Bronze Star winning, hawkish Democrat, with long standing ties to the military establishment, is called a coward by another member of Congress for properly addressing the disaster in Iraq. [...]
November 21st, 2005 at 4:17 pmHey MizzImARepublicanFagAndHateMyself,
"it was Defense Secretary Cheney who gloated that he had “put an end to more than 100 systems†in less than three years. In December 1991, he bragged to the Washington Post that he was setting “an all-time record as Defense Secretary for canceling or stopping production†of weapons and equipment."
STDs aren't homosexual, they're genderless. Your ignorance of biology was already known, but this statement puts you up there with Ann Coulter and the other truly brain damaged. Good Job, you've reached bottom of the retarded heap :)
November 21st, 2005 at 4:46 pmFYI RetardedRepublicanClosetedFag-AKAMizzWrong,
That was BEFORE clinton. I can post them all day, but then again, you're delusional - we know you won't actually learn anything. Your nonfunctional brain can barely read english characters, let alone discern their complex meanings...

November 21st, 2005 at 5:35 pmOOPS, New BREAKING STORY, AND THIS ONE IS GONNA BE REAL GOOD.
DONT MISS THIS ONE FOLKS!
That broad looks like she'd give a great blow job. So there's one thing she's got going for her, but only one.
November 21st, 2005 at 6:27 pmMost gangs send their new members out to commit some crime to make their bones. This is all this was, and none of her pals will cover for her. She was stupid enough to do it and her political life is now finished. What do you get when you push the "Fix" button on a Diebold machine? CRUNT!!!! Oh and by the way, Irite and ned, you boys are a bloody bore and are becoming irrelevent. You are neither clever or interesting.
November 21st, 2005 at 10:22 pmMean Jean Schmidt Lied to The People of Ohio, She is a Typical Republican
I could not make this shit up if I tired. I was looking for Mean Jean Schmidt first floor speech, because she said some stuff that made me fall out of my chair.
I did not have to find it because she helped me on her own web siteÂ…
From Mean JeanÂ...
November 21st, 2005 at 11:19 pmI can't believe our troops are wasting their time rebuilding a middle eastern country that harbored Al Quiada and fostered terrorist training camps when they could have been invading Haiti! Clinton would have had them storming the beaches of Bali to rescue models he could later seduce.....

November 22nd, 2005 at 1:21 pmI sent a e=mail to Ms. Schmidt, I know, as a congresswoman, she suppose to be addressed as "honorable", she is not a honorable person. Her retraction does not mean anything at all.
November 23rd, 2005 at 8:11 pmLook at the picture. Just look at it.... can you see it? Just imagine having the opportunity to shove a big, brown, ripe and freshly aromatic turd in that gaping mouth of hers. That's exactly what she deserves... to be forced to swallow a turd. One turd for another.
I'm sure right now that all the republicans that were still contemplating their vote right into the booth, but could not, just once, vote for the right candidate instead of blindly towing the line once again are sorely disappointed they voted for her.
Is it illegal to mail shit? I don't think there is a precedant. Why don't we all do our American duty (albeit disgusting, but not as disgusting as she is) and send her thousands of envelopes with just a smidgeon of a turd in it as a message of our opinion of her. We could call it the Great Jean Schmidt Movement (pun absolutely intended). What better way to acknowledge a piece of shit than with a shower of turds!
November 23rd, 2005 at 9:46 pmIs it legal to mail shit? Are you kidding me? I get mail from MoveOn.org all the time...of course it's legal!
November 28th, 2005 at 7:35 amI think a more appropriate punishment would be to send her a fruitcake and make her eat THAT on television! That'll show 'er!
FOR JEAN SCHMIDT TO STAND ON THE FLOOR,AND CALL JOHN MURTHA A COWARD IS NOTHING MORE THAN A FRESH SLAP IN THE FACE OF EVERY VIET NAM VETERAN WHO SERVED IN COUNTRY.THE GOOD PEOPLE OF THE SECOND DISTRICT IN OHIO NEED TO DO ONE THING COME THE NEXT ELECTION OF 2007 AND THATS VOTE HER ASS OUT OF OFFICE.
December 5th, 2005 at 11:17 am[...] The Ohio congresswoman who called Jack Murtha a “coward” says she “got a round of applause at a recent closed-door meeting” of House conservatives. She also received marriage proposals: “It’s amazing. There have been three marriage proposals and lots of dates. They think I’m a hottie,” she said. 4:53 pm | Comment (0) [...]

December 16th, 2005 at 5:40 pm[...] It turns out that Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH), remember the one that implied that retired Marine John Murtha was a coward doesn't have the college degree she said she had. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) won't leave all the bamboozlement to Kaloogian? A new elections complaints alleges (and pretty credibly) she said she had a degree she didn't; earlier one tagged her for bogus 'endorsement' by Ohio Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH). [...]
