Sadly, it was probably one of the best things the Department of Homeland Security did this year. When the bar is set so low, screwing up a response to a major Hurricane probably does seem like an accomplishment.
Sadly, it was probably one of the best things the Department of Homeland Security did this year. When the bar is set so low, screwing up a response to a major Hurricane probably does seem like an accomplishment. I’m not one of those “It’s all FEMA’s fault” kind of people, but I do get a good laugh when conservatives try to defend how Brown, the former Arabian Horse expert, handled the situation.
Accomplishment? I feel like I’m in the twilight zone or something. These people can’t be for real. But hey, I guess if Brownie did a heck of a job, then everyone else was stellar as well.
I guess we should re-hire Brownie, give him a big bonus for his outstanding job, nominate him for Time’s Man of the Year, name the FEMA building after him, and make him the Grand Marshall for the Sugar Bowl. The GOP doesn’t re-write history….they re-write the facts..
When you look at it through the lens of a profiteer, the statement makes some sense, no?
Same applies to Iraq.
-oil fields secure: check
-military/industrial complex on the ground: check
-new Western-style “market” introduced in heart of Arab world: check
-threat of Hussein trading oil in euros: gone
-Blank check from cowed legislature to funnel 100’s of billions of American taxpayers $’s: check
The beauty in these things is in the eye of the beholder.
Heckava job for heckava man, Brownie getting a new job and digs out in Boulder, Colorado. Heckava company he’s working for, too, the Allbauch Company.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but its a heckava coincidence that former top Bush aide in Texas, Joe Allbaugh, found room for Brownie in the same office. Consulting. Brownie will do a heckava job consulting.
I can think of only fictional works to describe everything about this administration. We are living with Dr. Strangelove, 1984, Wizard of Oz, and Alice in Wonderland.
That FEMA would even mention Katrina in the same sentence with accomplishments is worthy of comparison to something a character in Wonderland might utter.
Also announced as top accomplishments by our Administration:
Bush’s SS overhaul program
The chase and capture of OBL
The pacification of Iraq
The overall solid ethics standards of WH employees
The overall solid ethics standards of Republican lobbyists
The general happiness and respect of every single country outside of the US
Most comments seem shocked at this “accomplishment”. Jay hit the nail on the head with, “When you look at it through the lens of a profiteer…”
BushCo, Neocons, Wingnuts, Coporate looters, whatever is the label of the day, are essentially trying to steal all of your money, destroy any government program that benefits the many over the few, would prefer America to look more like a third world country, and really have their sights set on world domination.
If you look at things through their eyes, they find success and victory in almost everything that 90% of Americans would see as shameful, a disaster, a loss, etc. What’s amazing is the number of folks who are cheering them on as their own future is being flushed down the toilet.
It is just like the old Soviet Union. Gulags, dissappearances, no due process, historical revisionism, paid government propaganda, literally rewriting of documents, soon there will be the redacted photos.
Oh, my gawd! Hell must have frozen over!! Just when you think these folks can’t get more ridiculous….next thing we know, Cheney will be chosen as Time’s person-o-the-year! FEMA even screwed up in Florida, for pete’s sake….where the prezinutcase has a blood relative! Ya’ gotta’ laugh at these antics…otherwise, ……well, the alternative is not pretty!
Well what else did FEMA get to do this year? I didn’t hear of them doing anything before Katrina. So… yes, Pete Bogs, it seems like it was a slow year!
Calling the Katrina an accomplishment is a bit of a stretch, obviously. Calling the Katrina response one of the few things FEMA did at all in 2005 would be fine.
Or better yet, they can call the Katrina response one of the MANY things FEMA DIDN’T do!
You have got to be kidding me. Just when you think this bunch couldn’t go any lower. I dare these imbeciles to go on the news channels and tell this straight to the American people. That should take their poll numbers to the teens.
What a slap in the face to the people of New Orleans.
Shame on this administration. Shame.
Maybe we should ask the people of Louisana, Alabama and Mississippi how they rate FEMA? Then compare it to Homeland Security’s boastful brag. Then publish the results in all the newspapers.
The Republicans’ Dismissive Mass
December 9, 2005
This week many of the victims of the Hurricane Katrina testified before Congress and shed the light on how slow and reluctant the response from the Republican Congress is hindering recovery efforts. The fact that many residents still lack essential needs such as health care and housing, nearly 200,000 of them remain without permanent housing this winter holiday season and how FEMA has been slow to move evacuees into readily available housing. Even Mississippi’s Republican Governor Haley Barbour cited the lack of action from the Republican Congress reveals that he has not received needed federal assistance for rebuilding schools, homes, roads, and infrastructure. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the American people responded with tremendous acts of heroism, bravery, and generosity. We Americans deserve a government as good as its people, a government that will match the efforts of local residents who continue to work hard to rebuild their neighborhoods not a government who’ll exploit the fallout of Katrina for personal and political gain. It has been a hundred days after this tragedy and the federal government, FEMA and Republicans in Congress continue to drag their feet while real Americans are still suffering. The Republicans view the Katrina victims as a faceless and dismissive mass but they are hard working people and Congress must respond quickly with needed federal funding to help them return their homes and begin to rebuild their new lives. Nuff said.
