Kristol: “The Administration Looks Weak Right Now”

In recent days, the Bush administration has tried to have it both ways on Iraq. On the one hand, the White House has said those who advocate a drawdown of troops are calling for “surrender to the terrorists.” On the other hand, the adminstration — in the face of polls showing the American people favor a drawdown — has repeatedly sent signals that it too wants to pull out troops. Yesterday, Secretary Rice became the latest member of the administration to send mixed signals.

On Fox News this morning, conservative editor of the Weekly Standard Bill Kristol called out the administration for this game they’re playing:

What message does this send here at home? Here in Washington, policymakers, congressional staff, opinion leaders pick up the two Washington papers this morning and there in the Washington Times, ‘General Calls Iraqi Pullout Destabilizing.’ So you think, well, that’s good, that’s the administration’s line. You can’t pull out too fast. Then you pick up the Washington Post. ‘Three Brigades May Be Cut In Iraq Early In 2006′ based on a Pentagon briefing by a different general. It looks confusing, it looks weak in my opinion. Dick Cheney just gave a major speech warning against this kind of talk. Everyone knows that we want to pull out troops when we can, but to sort of go out on a P.R. offensive, I think, on the part of the administration looks weak right now.

The administration looks, not just weak, but stupider than ever. Does anyone talk to anyone else in this administration? Or is it that they just talk to each other, and not to the people who live in the real world?

    The Sin Box
Why have Catholics stopped lining up at the confessional?
    By Andrew Santella
Posted Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at 2:13 PM ET

A Catholic friend of mine recently went to confession at her parish church for the first time in years. She had personal reasons for wanting to seek absolution, but there was this, too: She said she’d long felt a little sorry for the priests sitting alone in their confessional boxes, waiting for sinners to arrive.

A generation ago, you’d see a lot of us lined up inside Catholic churches on Saturday afternoons, waiting to take our turn in one of the confessionals. We’d recite the familiar phrases (”Bless me Father, for I have sinned”), list our transgressions and the number of times we’d committed them, maybe endure a priestly lecture, and emerge to recite a few Hail Marys as an act of penance. In some parishes, the machinery of forgiveness was so well-oiled you could see the line move. Confession was essential to Catholic faith and a badge of Catholic identity. It also carried with it the promise of personal renewal. Yet in most parishes, the lines for the confessionals have pretty much disappeared. Confession—or the sacrament of reconciliation, as it’s officially known—has become the one sacrament casual Catholics feel free to skip. We’ll get married in church, we’ll be buried from church, and we’ll take Communion at Mass. But regularly confessing one’s sins to God and the parish priest seems to be a part of fewer and fewer Catholic lives. Where have all the sinners gone?

  8. Compassionate Moderate says:

Sounds like there’s a riff forming, but don’t forget – Kristol is the Chair for PNAC, the think tank guys who started all this in first place.

Sounds to me like he’s with his PNAC partner [Cheney] on staying the course, while the administration is playing politics with the issue by talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Why doesn’t anyone in the press ever mention that Kristol is the chairman of PNAC? Instead they parade him around like he’s a mostly-unbiased conservative magazine editor, when he’s the leader of the NeoCons!

  9. Darian Evens says:

Remember what Bush said not too long ago about mixed messages.

Kristol speaks as a proxy for Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest of the neocons in power that have been forced to tone down their rhetoric in the wake of a series of very damaging publicity. The neocons are not going to give up the oil or the military bases in Iraq without a fight and drawing down troop levels makes their goals vulnerable.

Power is slipping away from the neocons and this can be a very dangerous turn of events. Necessary, but dangerous.

“in the face of polls showing the American people favor a drawdown — has repeatedly sent signals that it too wants to pull out troops.”

Who’s poll should we believe????? Actually there’s no question at all. The cowardly Democrats left Murtha hanging in the wind last week by refusing to back him up with a simple yea or nay. But why was that? Simple, they know their constituents better, evidently, than does Murtha.

The congressman at the center of the battle last week over withdrawal of troops from Iraq removed the results from his own Internet poll on the subject after online voters overwhelmingly opposed his stance.

Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., posted the poll after he ignited a firestorm in the House that led to Republicans forcing a quick vote on the issue Friday.

While a revised poll page remains on the site, the link to it from his homepage has been removed, making the survey effectively invisible to the public.

A contributor to Web forum Free Republic.com, however, posted results as of 3:34 p.m. Eastern time.

The call for immediate withdrawal garnered just 12 percent of the more than 12,000 votes.

Please indicate which of the following best summarizes your view on what the United States should do in Iraq:
    A. We should immediately remove all troops. 1,562 votes, 12.3 percent

    B. We should redeploy to the periphery of Iraq as soon as practical to protect troop safety and give the Iraqis incentive to take charge sooner, not later. 3,239 votes, 25.6 percent

    C. We should maintain current troop levels until Iraq builds an army to defend and stabilize their country, even if that takes years. 6,726 votes, 53.1 percent

    D. We should re-institute the national draft to increase troop levels to where we can seal the Iraqi borders and stop the passage of insurgents and insurgent-supply missions. 1,146 votes, 9 percent

    E. None of the above. 3 votes, 0.0 percent

I always find it remarkable how conservative talking heads rarely admonish this administration. Let me try to put my comment in context. Consider that much of what comes out of a staunch conservative’s mouth is their version of mumbo-jumbo that’s short on facts, circular in argument, logically impaired, easily debated, already debunked, etc. Nothing but a bunch of scrambled eggs most of the time. So I have to wonder how it is that one conservative’s version of events virtually always agrees with another conservative’s version of events, even though the two versions can be quite dissimilar. Maybe I’m assuming that right wingers are logical and think systematically. I generally think that hard-core conservatives are simply just malicious toward liberals, democrats, moderates, progressives, basically those of us who embrace diversity in people and their ideas, and openly seek new experiences.

Copying/pasting something I posted in another news item:

Murtha never proposed an “immediate” or “sudden” withdrawal of troops. This is Murtha’s resolution:

    Whereas Congress and the American People have not been shown clear, measurable progress toward establishment of stable and improving security in Iraq or of a stable and improving economy in Iraq, both of which are essential to “promote the emergence of a democratic government”;

    Whereas additional stabilization in Iraq by US military forces cannot be achieved without the deployment of hundreds of thousands of additional US troops, which in turn cannot be achieved without a military draft;

    Whereas more than $277 billion has been appropriated by the United States Congress to prosecute US military action in Iraq and Afghanistan;

    Whereas, as of the drafting of this resolution, 2,079 US troops have been killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom;

Whereas US forces have become the target of the insurgency,

    Whereas, according to recent polls, over 80% of the Iraqi people want US forces out of Iraq;

    Whereas polls also indicate that 45% of the Iraqi people feel that the attacks on US forces are justified;

    Whereas, due to the foregoing, Congress finds it evident that continuing US military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the people of Iraq, or the Persian Gulf Region, which were cited in Public Law 107-243 as justification for undertaking such action;

    Therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

    That:

Section 1. The deployment of United States forces in Iraq, by direction of Congress, is hereby terminated and the forces involved are to be redeployed at the earliest practicable date.

Section 2. A quick-reaction U.S. force and an over-the-horizon presence of U.S Marines shall be deployed in the region.

Section 3. The United States of America shall pursue security and stability in Iraq through diplomacy.

I don’t see anything about an “immediate” or “sudden” withdrawal in there, do you? Murtha’s essentially asking for a progress report maintaining political liaisons, a reduced Marine presence and redeployments on the ground as soon as practicable.

Murtha’s resolution was never debated on the floor. It was the Republican Hunter resolution that was voted down. This is Congressman Hunter’s resolution in full:

It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately.

Hunter’s resolution was brought up for debate knowing no one, not Republicans or Democrats, could support his resolution. So what we have is a bunch of Republican Congressmen and women belaboring a Republican resolution as if it was a Democrat’s resolution (Murtha), to make it appear as if Democratic Congressmen and women want to “cut and run” in Iraq. Meanwhile, Cheney and the rest of the cogs in the spin machine are working their hardest to make it appear this is not the case.

Congratulations Republicans on making a mockery of the sacrifices of the men and women who’ve served in Iraq you allegedly love so deeply for political partisan gains. It’s not a soldier’s place to publicly criticize policies. If the politicians elected to represent soldiers can’t earnestly debate the policies that put them in harm’s way, who can?

Actually Murtha proposed to redeploy the troops to the border (a kind of Minute Man border patrol), and to allow the Iraqis to deal with their internal security. He never proposed a ‘cut and run’, that was an entirely republican plan – that was shot down. Not only were the republicans ’schizophrenic’ in their response and the horrible and failed legislation that their own party shot down, but then by sending out idiots, apologists and liars like you – they look like the unpatriotic scum that we all know republicans really are.

    Lesly,

There is one very important piece of information. That woul dbe the fact that the republicans were very much trying to pul the wool over the eyes of the American public. It wasn’t until a Parlimentary Inquiry was brought forth by the democrats that the truth was brought forward.

    Here is the Parlimentary Inquiry:

    Parliamentary Inquiry

Mr. LANTOS. Mr. Speaker, parliamentary inquiry.

The SPEAKER pro tempore (Mr. Terry). The gentleman may state his parliamentary inquiry.

Mr. LANTOS. Do I understand, Mr. Speaker, that we are debating Mr. Murtha’s resolution or Mr. Hunter’s resolution?

The SPEAKER pro tempore. Pending is House Resolution 571.

Mr. LANTOS. The previous speaker referred to Mr. Murtha’s resolution. That is not before the House.

The SPEAKER pro tempore. That is a matter for debate–a matter that may be addressed by debate.

    {time} 2245

Mr. LANTOS. Mr. Speaker, I have a further parliamentary inquiry.

The SPEAKER pro tempore. Please state your parliamentary inquiry.

Mr. LANTOS. We on this side of the House are under the impression that we are debating the Hunter resolution. Please correct us if we are wrong.

The SPEAKER pro tempore. The gentleman is correct and he may make that point by debate.

Mr. MURTHA. I yield to the gentleman from Indiana (Mr. Buyer).

Mr. BUYER. Mr. Murtha, I apologize to you. I know you have a resolution. That is what I was referring to. I recognize we are debating Hunter, and I apologize to you, Mr. Murtha.

Do you see how the speaker pro tempore Mr. Terry tried to cover for the republicans by referring to the resolution as 571 and not the Hunter resolution. Mr Buyer had to come back and admit that he was mistaken.

I guess the confusion is over the meanings of “redeploy” and withdrawal”, but Murtha clearly talked about doing it immediately.

UK Media Gagged Over Contents of Bombing Memo
    Targeting Al Jazeera

    By LINDA S. HEARD

On Tuesday, Britain’s Daily Mirror published an explosive story riddled with implications concerning the character and intent of the US president when pursuing his so-called ‘war on terror’, and perhaps, shedding light on the bombing of Al Jazeera’s offices in both Kabul and Baghdad.

Twenty-four later, the Mirror and all other British papers had been subjected to a “gag order” under Section 5 the Official Secrets Act at pain of prosecution.

“The Daily Mirror was yesterday told not to publish further details from a memo marked ‘Top Secret’, which revealed that President Bush wanted to bomb an Arab TV station,” wrote Kevin Maguire in Tuesday’s edition of the paper.

“The gag by the Attorney General Lord Goldsmith” the same attorney general who changed his pre-Iraq War legal opinion after being badgered by US government lawyers to do so “came nearly 24 hours after the Mirror informed Downing Street of its intention to reveal how Tony Blair talked Bush out of attacking satellite station Al Jazeera’s HQ in friendly Qatar” in the spring of 2004.

Exactly. Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al ran the talk show circuit this weekend in a concerted effort to make it appear as if Murtha and the Democrats were trying to “cut and run” in Iraq. Frankly, I have been opposed to this capitalist endeavor from Day One. However, I do believe that after stoning Iraq to the Stone Age we owe it to her people to at least be able to defend themselves against violent extremism after we pick up our bags and ship out.

Murtha’s resolution is based in large part on the Center for American Progress’ study titled Strategic Redeployment: A Progressive Plan for Iraq and the Struggle Against Violent Extremists. It was coauthored by an asst. secretary of defense in the Reagan administration and calls for a 2-year withdrawal and redeployments to the area. Our equipment is taking a beating in the desert. Our government won’t raise taxes and—God forbid—cut precious pork out of budgets to fund this war. Some in our Army and Marine Corps are on their 3rd deployment. The stop-loss program is straining our Guard, reserves and inactive reserves to the breaking point. The high number of foreign nationals infiltrating Iraq to commit terrorist acts is questionable. Some top brass say “U.S. forces [are] fueling the insurgency, fostering an undesirable dependency on American troops among the nascent Iraqi military, and energizing terrorists across the Middle East.” We cannot allow our open enemies (N. Korea) to think we are too deeply committed to Iraq and overwhelmed there to be incapable of responding to an act of war. We can’t ignore the training other countries will probably require as terrorism spreads. And finally, we lack the political will to reinstate the draft (and frankly, most drill instructors would rather not deal with compelled recruits).

Murtha’s non-binding resolution is a start in the right dialogue necessary to do what’s best for America and Iraq. Republicans have done so well at characterizing Democrats as soft on crime/national security that they took their success for granted and their tactic blew up in their face. It didn’t work on Murtha because of his defendable positions on the military and a 5-year long pent up frustration with this administration’s consistent characterization of all dissent as appeasing our enemies.

Former President Clinton said yesterday that the United States should wait until after mid-December parliamentary elections in Iraq to decide whether to set a timetable for troop withdrawal. Clinton offered a lengthy assessment of the Iraq war as part of a wide-ranging talk at Westchester Community College for The President’s Forum, a school fundraiser. It marked a rare local appearance by the former president, a Chappaqua resident. Clinton, a Democrat who left office at the start of 2001, said he had personally never seen any intelligence linking Iraq to al-Qaida, and “no one I knew believed that was the case.” But that doesn’t mean President Bush, a Republican, lied or deliberately misled the country about the reasons for going to war, Clinton said. Bush probably believed the information he was relying on was right, Clinton said”.

“I guess the confusion is over the meanings of “redeploy” and withdrawal”, but Murtha clearly talked about doing it immediately.”

Okay, so that you don’t ever post that siily stuff again, I have looked up the definitions of “redeploy” and withdraw for you.

    Redeploy:
    1. To move (military forces) from one combat zone to another.
    2. To shift (something) from one place or use to another for greater effectiveness: redeploy the company’s resources.

    Withdraw:
    1. a. To move or draw back; retire.
    b. To retreat from a battlefield.
    2. a. To remove oneself from active participation: withdrew from the competition.
    b. To become detached from social or emotional involvement.
    3. To recall or remove a motion from consideration in parliamentary procedure.
    4. a. To discontinue the use of an addictive substance.
    b. To adjust physiologically and mentally to this discontinuation.

Do you get it now? There is a HUGE difference between withdrawing and redeploying. There is no confusion for anybody with some knowledge. That is why I want you to stop posting that, it makes you look like you don’t know (as in knowledge) anything.

  79. Susan says:

Right on SpudgeBoy, Murtha’s goal is to make progress and succeed. The pugs goal has always been to fail. There’s more money in failure for Bushie’s cronies eg. Halliburton.

If pressure is put upon them to pull out troops ASAP, and the country degenerates into civil war, they will blame those who pressed for withdrawal.
If civil war breaks out (as it likely has begun) regardless of our troops being there, whether or not it is through using something like the Murtha plan, they will blame the domestic opposition here anyway for being non-supportive.

No, Saddam is building railways! Creating electrical networks! Highways and other important elements of a serious State infrastructure! After eights years of war against the Iranian regime of Khomeini, he desperately needs to demobilize his Republican Guard, which incorporates so many of this technical elite, in order to rebuild the war-devastated country. These people are his technicians, his engineers. We have decided to speed up the process on bringing out the next two email updates back to back on November 16th and 19th since they are related and expose some information that Americans need to consider carefully.

Over the years I have kept a special list of those Neo-conservatives who are out front and right in our faces, those in the back office and those stealthy planners who devise the covert ops of the neo-conservative agenda. The PNAC crowd, for example, contains all three groups.

Even as I. Lewis Libby was indicted and then resigned his position as Vice President Cheney’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Cheney has elevated two other PNAC insiders that have the same agenda as Libby.

WASHINGTON – Vice President Dick Cheney replaced I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby as his national security adviser on Monday with an aide identified by a former Iraqi exile group as the White House official to whom it fed information on Iraq that turned out to be erroneous.

The Bush administration relied on some of the information from the Iraqi National Congress to argue that Saddam Hussein had to be ousted before he could give banned biological or chemical weapons to al-Qaida for strikes on the United States.

But no such weapons were discovered after the March 2003 invasion, and U.S. intelligence agencies and the independent commission on the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks found no evidence of operational cooperation between Iraq and al-Qaida.

The White House announced on Monday the elevation of John Hannah to replace Libby as Cheney’s national security adviser. Earlier in the day it announced that Libby would be arraigned Thursday in federal court on charges of perjury, making false statements and obstruction of justice. He was expected to plead innocent.

The White House also announced that David S. Addington, who’s been Cheney’s legal counsel, would assume Libby’s duties as chief of staff. Like Hannah, Addington has played a quiet, though influential, role in the vice president’s office. The Washington director of Human Rights Watch accused Addington of helping draft policies that led to the abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The vice president’s office has previously denied that Hannah received INC information. Cheney’s office didn’t respond immediately to questions Monday about Hannah and Addington.”"

Ladies and Gentlemen, there is a grand cover-up in progress and the White House cannot afford to have any clean-handed Boy Scouts spill the beans

If you are not familiar with Mr. Addington, he was one of the architects of official torture policies and the U.S.-our government and soldiers-entering into the commission of war crimes. Cheney’s Addington Was Chief Author of U.S. Torture, War Crimes Policy

    http://larouchepub.com/other/2005/3244addington.html

By all reports, Mr. Addington is yet another fascist PNAC-style Neocon, so don’t think for even a minute that they are cleaning up matters inside of the White House. They cannot afford to do that and keep concealed the many lies this Bush Administration has spoken from the day he entered office.

Information keeps surfacing about Mr. I. Lewis Libby that can help you form an opinion of his background, his connections, and his real allegiances.

    Foreign Influence

    By Charley Reese

11/11/05 — – I don’t share the president’s high opinion of I. Lewis Libby, now under indictment for obstruction of justice, making false statements and committing perjury.

He was, after all, the lawyer who for years represented Marc Rich, the fugitive billionaire who renounced his own country. It was Libby who arranged the last-minute presidential pardon of Rich issued by Bill Clinton – a pardon that stank to high heaven. Rich, along with a number of Russian oligarchs the Russian government would like to get its hands on, is now an Israeli citizen.

Libby was also part of the trio of neoconservatives who pushed the phony intelligence in order to get the U.S. to go to war. Another member of that trio, John Hannah, has now replaced Libby as Vice President Dick Cheney’s national-security adviser. As described by Juan Cole in an excellent article at Salon.com. “Most of the members of Cheney’s inner circle were neoconservative ideologues, who combined hawkish American triumphalism with an obsession with Israel.”

In fact, Ms. Condoleezza Rice is now suggesting that the Sunni Iraqis get with the program because “unity is good for Iraq”. She made the following statement in meeting with Sunni leaders in Iraq – Divisions “may be differences of history or tradition, culture or ethnicity, but in a democratic process these differences can be a strength rather than a handicap,” I trust you recognize the political correctness message in that and you can bet all you have that Rice did not make the sale. They are not even talking about victory in Iraq any more, just “successful resolutions”.

The Condoleezza Rice “Democracy Summit” in the Middle East-where she was explained her vision and that of Bush and Cheney that all Arab nations need to be democracies-was a total flop. None of the Arab nations attending want to try and insert Americanized democracies into their nations. They have a perfect example to look at and that is the complete disaster that Bush and his Neocon buddies have wrought in Iraq.

At the same time Bush has come out swinging from the Bully Pulpit against anyone daring to question his policies or his sanity for still asking you to continue deluding yourself that things are just great in Iraq. This is at a time when polls show that 57% of Americans no longer think George Bush to be an honest man and his overall approval rating is under 40%. Some in the GOP have even circulated a memo stating that another “terror attack” on the United States would re-unite Americans behind what might be the worst president this nation has ever seen and shore up the GOP with renewed energy. His desires in Latin America flopped on FTAA and now his grand vision for democracies in the Muslim world is flopping too.

As my grandfather used to say about people like Bush, “he is obviously not hemmed in by the truth.”

Now that I am making a bid for the Office of President of the United States, the list of Neoconservatives we have assembled will come in handy in making sure that we will have the identity of the Neocons and can purge them from both inside the federal government and eliminate their consultant work for the federal government.

From my perspective, the Neocons have proven themselves to be of no benefit to the United States in any manner whatsoever. If I have a say in the matter, they will be purged from having anything to do with the decision making apparatus of the United States. Their agenda is adverse to our best interests. That would be one of my first priorities, to rid our government of the influence of the un-American Neocons. They are not liberals or progressives, they are not conservatives. They are fascist Troskyites that do not represent the America we believe in and hold dear.

That list is an extensive one and has names many would not suspect. For example, John Fund, former editorial voice of the Wall Street Journal, is a well-known Neocon operative behind the scenes. You see, the Neocons do not want America to know that the editorial voice of such an august publication is actually spouting off the Straussian, Troskyite philosophy of the Neocons. The Neocons would not want you to know that some of the content that many readers peruse in the WSJ is mere fascist propaganda. As with Hitler and Goebbels, tell the lie enough times and people begin to believe it is the truth.

There is a reason that Mr. Fund is no longer the main editorial writer for the Wall Street Journal. He assaulted a girlfriend and beat her nearly to death. It took about six months for her wounds to heal from that beating and that matter is currently tied up in the courts with formal charges against Mr. Fund. I personally know the woman he assaulted and she informed me of some of his very strange habits, such as listening to Hitler speeches in his spare time. Mr. Fund was raised in Germany and I even stunned him one time by asking him to his face what part of Germany he was from or raised in. His elocution of the English language is too precise, just as pronunciation of the German language is if one is fluent in High German. He was somewhat taken aback that I listen so closely. If you have ever heard him on TV (he was a regular guest on Chris Mathews’ Hardball), Mr. Fund does not posses a local accent that would give anyone a clue as to what part of the United States he comes from. That is because he was raised in Germany, not the United States.

The Neocons are not conservatives in the literal sense of the word and hold unapologetically fascist opinions about the role of the state. Just one look at the rampant spending of Bush I and Bush II in the earlier email update regarding GNP and National Debt ought to be enough to convince you that these two men are not fiscal conservatives by any stretch of the imagination. They have an agenda and that agenda is Pro-Israel, Pro-Saudi and Pro-Neocon, and never do such matters as “what is best for America” come into their operative thought processes. It is all about Big Oil, Big Defense and what is best for their buddies in the energy and defense businesses.

Another behind-the-scenes Neocon is Dr. Edward Luttwak, scholar, author and Pentagon advisor. His name does not pop up much but he nonetheless figures as an important Neoconservative theorist.

I was surprised to see his name and his comments in print in Neoconned Again, page 30, in an article written by Maurizio Blondet about Iraq and was included in the revealing Neoconned and Neoconned Again books. If you have not read them, I highly recommend that you do. They are available through my website at http://www.karlschwarz2008.com/platform.htm

If you read those two books, prepare yourself for a harsh dose of reality regarding the morality of this nation, or lack of it, in regards to this current Bush Administration, Bush I and even the Clinton Administration. This nation can claim no moral high ground on the basis alone of our conduct in Iraq over the past twenty five years.

This is cited from page 29-30 of Neoconned Again:

“I put through a call to Dr. Edward Luttwak, the internationally renowned author, lecturer, historian, military strategist and Pentagon consultant. Well-known in political circles in Italy, he had studied the military power of the Roman Empire here and was thus well able to express himself in Italian. I asked him whether the White House really was prepared to invade Iraq with all of its attendant risks? “We are very serious,” he answered. He continued: “We are going to bomb Iraq back into the Stone Age.” But why is this necessary, I answered, finding Luttwak’s bluntness somewhat at variance with his reputation for subtle thinking and expression. Almost warming to the subject, he continues:

“Saddam is not like the Saudi Princes who spend the bulk of their lives outside of their country, and who fritter away the Kingdom’s oil profits on prostitutes and bottles of champagne in Paris. If they are put to work in the way Saddam wishes, they will rapidly make Iraq the most advanced power in the region, and we cannot allow this to happen.”

That comment was made in 2002 well in advance of the invasion of Iraq. Note that Mr. Luttwak used the pronoun “we” as he is part of the group that was going after an objective.

If you are one of the many Americans who no longer accept the official reasons given for attacking Iraq, that statement is a clear example of what was going on behind the scenes. There were no WMD in Iraq. There was no imminent threat from Iraq towards the United States. There was no tie between Saddam and Al Qaeda found anywhere, at any time. All this has been proven over time: Bush and Blair lied the US and UK into this war. Even the Downing Street Memo, something that Bush and Blair have both refused to address, makes it clear the war had been planned long before it was started. Iraq was constructing a full-service, heavy infrastructure built on policies contrary to U.S. policy that all Middle East nations but Israel stay in impoverished, third world status.
Despite his well advertised crimes, Saddam Hussein was also building Iraq into an example for what the Arab nations could be, and the U.S. and Israel could not allow that to happen. The primary threat was that Iraq was well on its way to being as advanced in many ways as the United States or Europe in terms of government functions and infrastructure. That would be embarrassing to all of those other Arab nations that reap the oil moneys for the Royal Families while their populations live in poverty.

In Neoconned it is clear that even during Desert Storm in 199, and during the period of economic sanctions and “No Fly Zones”, the United States and Great Britain were targeting non-military sites like water pumping stations, municipal waste treatment facilities, dams, hydroelectric generation stations, schools, hospitals, oil and gas infrastructure, et cetera to blast Iraq into the “stone age” and keep them there. Any target that was beneficial to quality of life was hit, and one million Iraqis died during that period due mainly to rampant disease, poor sanitation, diminished health care and dangerous drinking water. Called by any other name, that is still genocide. It shames this nation and infuriates the world against our abusive and inhumane policies.

Such a policy has nothing to do with U.S. National Security, it has everything to do with Saudi and Israeli security. It has to do with keeping the status quo in Arab nations at is lowest common denominator, that being wealth for an elite few and mind-numbing poverty for the vast majority of their citizens. Such a policy has resulted in close to one million Iraqis dying during the U.S. – U.N. sanctions alone, not to mention how many were killed in Gulf War I and II. Even machinery to grind flour was denied by the U.S. under the excuse of being “dual use” technology, though no arms programs were in progress, period. Medicines, chlorine for water treatment, diapers, needles, medical and dental supplies, farm equipment and many other items were arbitrarily denied by the U.S. and U.K. while those Iraqis were dying as a result of our negligence and malignant attitude. Malicious and malevolent are words that fit our policies towards Iraq over the past twenty five years. Anything related to quality of life was denied because the end game was to crush a country that was becoming an embarrassment to the other Arab nations.

One of the things that stands out in the Neoconned books is that we apply moral standards to all but ourselves in how this nation conducts itself, whether in international business, law, war, or in meddling in the affairs of other nations, especially if those nations have valuable natural resources like natural gas or oil. It was that way all the way back to the Nuremburg trials when the court had to decide cautiously if the Nazis had committed a war crime that we did not. The Nazis were tried for those crimes, yet if both sides had committed the same atrocities those charges were not brought up because the prosecution did not want a defense to disclose what U.K. and U.S. forces had done.

It is my considered opinion that George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush-along with many who served in their administrations-should be tried for war crimes and genocide against the Iraqi and Afghani peoples. Read Neoconned and Neoconned Again. If you have any decency in your heart or conscience in your soul, you will come to the same conclusion.

I have been watching this nation slide downhill for the past three presidential administrations but could not quite put my finger on the underlying problem. Now I know in my heart that we have been led by evil men doing the bidding of evil masters. The deeds done in our name by these people is not foreign policy; it is a systematic abuse of human rights and human dignity. It has been a systematic program of genocide. They have even interfered in sovereign nations that pose, then or now, no threat to the United States whatsoever. I remember well when she was asked to justify the inhumane treatment of the Iraqis Madeline Albright’s comment that the deaths of all of those Iraqi children was worth it.

I have come to conclusion that there has been no “finest hour” for America at any time during the administrations of George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton or George W. Bush. They all stand for the same ugly despicable thing and that is not the America I believe in.

This nation is standing at the edge of the abyss. Those who are morally competent always stay well back from the abyss, but our leaders are leading us straight into that abyss, which is a polite way of saying they are either insane, corrupted by power or greed, or are not morally competent men and women.

Unlike most Americans, I can leave the U.S. and do very well in Europe and elsewhere in nanotechnology but I choose to stand and fight for the nation I love. I have given these matters much thought, and frankly do not take pride in being American as I have in the past. Now I know the truth, and the truth of our leaders and their policies is an ugly thing. Their actions are nothing to take pride in. I see the next two elections of 2006 and 2008 as either the turning point where we might change America back to what it was always intended to be, or the beginning of the requiem for America.

We are a nation of great people, led by a government that does not deserve us. I ask that you read that again, they do not deserve us and we deserve better than the likes of them.

By the end of this current Bush Administration, this nation will be $10 trillion or more in debt. By 2014 it is projected that it will take 60% of the GNP of the United States to service the foreign debt holders that have purchased the debt that allowed Washington, D.C. to act so recklessly and irresponsibly. We have an entire government, sworn to uphold the Constitution treating that document as toilet paper and our rights as subject to their whims.

If you think finding a job or earning a decent living for your family is hard now, just wait until the matter gets so far out of hand that the financial life of this nation is being sucked dry by the load of the National Debt. If you think your quality of life is slipping daily, wait until 2014 to make a decision about which way this nation is headed. Right now we are headed straight into the side of the mountain.

There are many Neocons that would be shown the door and blocked from access to our government and decision making processes if I had my way in the matter. The likes of Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Bill Kristol, David Frum, and about 1,000 other Neocons and Neocon wannabees would be removed and barred from the federal processes. In fact, if my instincts are right about Afghanistan and Iraq, and I had my way, many Neocons would be facing federal prosecution for treason, conspiracy to commit murder, murder, genocide, and other well deserved charges. Their entire agenda is based on lies and people are now dead because of the lies. I do not consider that a “no harm, no foul” circumstance since it was premeditated.

Our republic is no longer the light of the world. America has cast the dark shadow of American greed and it is growing uglier every day. Our policies are abusive and inhumane towards others and not even remotely based on fair, equitable relations.

Many Americans do not recognize fascism since it is so alien to what this nation is about and was always intended to be. However, what we have right now is a Mussolini style of economic fascism running rampant through our government and certain sectors of our corporate world. What they cannot pull off directly, they have taken over the controls of how the National Debt is being used to line their pockets and increase their wealth and power. Overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq we have deployed the Hitler style of fascism, complete with the blitzkrieg against innocent people who stand in the way of our unmitigated greed in Washington, DC and in our major corporations.

As a nation we find ourselves at a “Y” in the road. Taking either the left turn or the right turn are both the wrong solutions. The RNC and DNC are both owned by the same wealthy élite insiders and their agenda has not changed for the past three presidential administrations. The only correct direction is one of two alternatives. Reverse direction and do not take either side of the “Y” in the road, or like a wedge split the “Y” and create a new road.

The choice is for each and every one of us to make. It is time to tell Washington, D.C. and certain corporations that enough is enough.

My job as a Third Party Candidate is to energize this nation and give you the means to fight back and take back America. I would love to support a third party, that could actually win seats in the House and the Senate. The Presidency would be the icing on the cake. However, recent history suggests that is not going to happen. I do agree that the two party system is outdated. Both Democrats and Republicans have failed the American Public. The Dem’s became corrupt after 40 years in power and the Republicans have perfected that corruption to a higher power, if that was possible ( apparently, with the guilty plea of Scanlon this week, we still have more to go on that count). So what is the solution? Since more likely than not, Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the United States, does that mean I should just stick my head in the sand? Or just worry about local issues, like the State Supreme Court of Texas’ recent ruling that our method of taxation for funding Texas’ public school system is unconstitutional and has to be changed. In the meantime, today is Thanksgiving day, so I will give thanks for my many blessings and for the fact that people like you, Karl Schwarz, are willing to take the chance and get out there to do what many of us only dream about. I wish I had that much courage. Good luck to you, to democracy and all the oppressed people of the world. Don’t ever give up hope!

    Executive Intelligence Review 11.05

1.Cheney lied, repeatedly and in collusion with others, to draw the United States into war with Iraq. The indictment of Libby by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald removes any shadow of doubt about the circumstances under which the United States went to war against Iraq. The United States went to war on the basis of an egregious conspiracy of lies, led by the Vice President and others. Already, 2,000 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq, and over 15,000 severely wounded, along with hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

2.Cheney conspired, in this campaign of lies, with a notorious international fascist organization, implicated in major acts of terrorism. Some of the lies perpetrated by Cheney and others, particularly the so-called Niger yellowcake hoax, were concocted by an international fascist organization, formerly headed by World War II Nazi figure Licio Gelli. That organization, the Propaganda Two (P-2) Lodge, produced fake “evidence,” aimed at duping the U.S. Congress into voting for a fraudulent Iraq war. The current Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, a former member of the Fascist P-2 Lodge, was central to the Niger hoax, and another former P-2 Lodge member, the American self-professed universal fascist Michael Ledeen, was another pivotal player in the war hoax. This same P-2 Lodge was behind the 1970-1982 wave of terrorism in Italy, collectively known as the “strategy of tension,” which included the 1978 kidnapping/assassination of former Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro, and the 1980 Bologna train station bombing, which killed over 80 people.

A Phone Call To The Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco
    persoonlijk | Other | 24 November 2005 | 17:44:52

The following is a conversation with Mr. Ron Supinski of the Public Information Department of the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank. This is an account of that conversation.

CALLER – Mr. Supinski, does my country own the Federal Reserve System?

MR. SUPINSKI – We are an agency of the government.

CALLER – That’s not my question. Is it owned by my country?

MR. SUPINSKI – It is an agency of the government created by congress.

CALLER – Is the Federal Reserve a Corporation?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes

CALLER – Does my government own any of the stock in the Federal Reserve?

MR. SUPINSKI – No, it is owned by the member banks.

CALLER – Are the member banks private corporations?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes

CALLER – Are Federal Reserve Notes backed by anything?

MR. SUPINSKI-Yes, by the assets of the Federal Reserve but, primarily by the power of congress to lay tax on the people.

CALLER – Did you say, by the power to collect taxes is what backs Federal Reserve Notes?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes

CALLER – What are the total assets of the Federal Reserve?

MR. SUPINSKI – The San Francisco Bank has $36 Billion in assets.

CALLER – What are these assets composed of?

MR. SUPINSKI – Gold, the Federal Reserve Bank itself and government securities.

CALLER – What value does the Federal Reserve Bank carry gold per oz. on their books?

MR. SUPINSKI – I don’t have that information but the San Francisco Bank has $1.6 billion in gold.

CALLER – Are you saying the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco has $1.6 billion in gold, the bank itself and the balance of the assets is government securities?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes.

CALLER – Where does the Federal Reserve get Federal Reserve Notes from?

MR. SUPINSKI – They are authorized by the Treasury.

CALLER – How much does the Federal Reserve pay for a $10 Federal Reserve Note?

MR. SUPINSKI – Fifty to seventy cents.

CALLER – How much do they pay for a $100.00 Federal Reserve Note?

MR. SUPINSKI – The same fifty to seventy cents.

CALLER – To pay only fifty cents for a $100.00 is a tremendous gain, isn’t it?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes

CALLER – According to the US Treasury, the Federal Reserve pays $20.60 per 1,000 denomination or a little over two cents for a $100.00 bill, is that correct?

MR. SUPINSKI – That is probably close.

CALLER – Doesn’t the Federal Reserve use the Federal Reserve Notes that cost about two cents each to purchase US Bonds from the government?

MR. SUPINSKI – Yes, but there is more to it than that.

CALLER – Basically, that is what happens?

MR. SUPINSKI – Yes, basically you are correct.

CALLER – How many Federal Reserve Notes are in circulation?

MR. SUPINSKI – $263 billion and we can only account for a small percentage.

CALLER – Where did they go?

MR. SUPINSKI – Peoples mattress, buried in their back yards and illegal drug money.

CALLER – Since the debt is payable in Federal Reserve Notes, how can the $4 trillion national debt be paid-off with the total Federal Reserve Notes in circulation?

    MR. SUPINSKI – I don’t know.

CALLER – If the Federal Government would collect every Federal Reserve Note in circulation would it be mathematically possible to pay the $4 trillion national debt?

    MR. SUPINSKI – No

CALLER – Am I correct when I say, $1 deposited in a member bank $8 can be lent out through Fractional Reserve Policy?

    MR. SUPINSKI – About $7.

CALLER – Correct me if I am wrong but, $7 of additional Federal Reserve Notes were never put in circulation. But, for lack of better words were “created out of thin air ” in the form of credits and the two cents per denomination were not paid either. In other words, the Federal Reserve Notes were not physically printed but, in reality were created by a journal entry and lent at interest. Is that correct?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes

CALLER – Is that the reason there are only $263 billion Federal Reserve Notes in circulation?

MR. SUPINSKI – That is part of the reason.

CALLER – Am I mistaking that when the Federal Reserve Act was passed (on Christmas Eve) in 1913, it transferred the power to coin and issue our nation’s money and to regulate the value thereof from Congress to a Private corporation. And my country now borrows what should be our own money from the Federal Reserve (a private corporation) plus interest. Is that correct and the debt can never be paid off under the current money system of country?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Basically, yes.

CALLER – I smell a rat, do you?

MR. SUPINSKI – I am sorry, I can’t answer that, I work here.

CALLER – Has the Federal Reserve ever been independently audited?

MR. SUPINSKI – We are audited.

CALLER – Why is there a current House Resolution 1486 calling for a complete audit of the Federal Reserve by the GAO and why is the Federal Reserve resisting?

    MR. SUPINSKI – I don’t know.

CALLER – Does the Federal Reserve regulate the value of Federal Reserve Notes and interest rates?

    MR. SUPINSKI – Yes

CALLER – Explain how the Federal Reserve System can be Constitutional if, only the Congress of the US, which comprises of the Senate and the House of representatives has the power to coin and issue our money supply and regulate the value thereof? [Article 1 Section 1 and Section 8] Nowhere, in the Constitution does it give Congress the power or authority to transfer any powers granted under the Constitution to a private corporation or, does it?

MR. SUPINSKI – I am not an expert on constitutional law. I can refer you to our legal department.

CALLER – I can tell you I have read the Constitution. It does NOT provide that any power granted can be transferred to a private corporation. Doesn’t it specifically state, all other powers not granted are reserved to the States and to the citizens? Does that mean to a private corporation?

MR. SUPINSKI – I don’t think so, but we were created by Congress.

CALLER – Would you agree it is our country and it should be our money as provided by our Constitution?

MR. SUPINSKI – I understand what you are saying.

CALLER – Why should we borrow our own money from a private consortium of bankers? Isn’t this why we had a revolution, created a separate sovereign nation and a Bill of Rights?

MR. SUPINSKI – (Declined to answer).

CALLER – Has the Federal Reserve ever been declared constitutional by the Supreme Court?

MR. SUPINSKI – I believe there has been court cases on the matter.

CALLER – Have there been Supreme Court Cases?

MR. SUPINSKI – I think so, but I am not sure.

CALLER – Didn’t the Supreme Court declare unanimously in A.L.A. Schechter Poultry Corp. vs. US and Carter vs. Carter Coal Co. the corporative-state arrangement an unconstitutional delegation of legislative power? ["The power conferred is the power to regulate. This is legislative delegation in its most obnoxious form; for it is not even delegation to an official or an official body, presumptively disinterested, but to private persons." Carter vs. Carter Coal Co...]

MR. SUPINSKI – I don’t know, I can refer you to our legal department.

CALLER – Isn’t the current money system a house of cards that must fall because, the debt can mathematically never be paid-off?

MR. SUPINSKI – It appears that way. I can tell you have been looking into this matter and are very knowledgeable. However, we do have a solution.

CALLER – What is the solution?

MR. SUPINSKI – The Debit Card.

CALLER – Do you mean under the EFT Act (Electronic Funds Transfer)? Isn’t that very frightening, when one considers the capabilities of computers? It would provide the government and all it’s agencies, including the Federal Reserve such information as: You went to the gas station @ 2:30 and bought $20.00 of unleaded gas @ $3.41 per gallon and then you went to the grocery store @ 2:58 and bought bread, lunch meat and milk for $12.32 and then went to the drug store @ 3:30 and bought cold medicine for $5.62. In other words, they would know where we go, when we went, how much we paid, how much the merchant paid and how much profit he made. Under the EFT they will literally know everything about us. Isn’t that kind of scary?

MR. SUPINSKI – Yes, it makes you wonder.

CALLER – I smell a GIANT RAT that has overthrown my constitution. Aren’t we paying tribute in the form of income taxes to a consortium of private bankers?

MR. SUPINSKI – I can’t call it tribute, it is interest.

CALLER – Haven’t all elected officials taken an oath of office to preserve and defend the Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic? Isn’t the Federal Reserve a domestic enemy?

    MR. SUPINSKI – I can’t say that.

CALLER – Our elected officials and members of the Federal Reserve are guilty of aiding and abetting the overthrowing of my Constitution and that is treason. Isn’t the punishment of treason death?

MR. SUPINSKI – I believe so.

CALLER – Thank you for your time and information and if I may say so, I think you should take the necessary steps to protect you and your family and withdraw your money from the banks before the collapse, I am.

MR. SUPINSKI – It doesn’t look good.

CALLER – May God have mercy on the souls who are behind this unconstitutional and criminal act called the Federal Reserve. When the ALMIGHTY MASS awakens to this giant hoax, they will not take it with a grain of salt. It has been a pleasure talking to you and I thank you for your time. I hope you will take my advice before it does collapse.

MR. SUPINSKI – Unfortunately, it does not look good.

CALLER – Have a good day and thanks for your time.

MR. SUPINSKI – Thanks for calling.

    From Dan Benham d.benham@worldnet.att.net

#19 said – Who’s poll should we believe????? Actually there’s no question at all. The cowardly Democrats left Murtha hanging in the wind last week by refusing to back him up with a simple yea or nay. But why was that? Simple, they know their constituents better, evidently, than does Murtha.

P-U-Lease…. what tobaccy have you got in your pipe that you’ve been smoking…

The resolution voted on in the House last Friday was NOT Murtha’s – it was a Republican resolution concocted overnight – quite simply, a stunt and very different from Murtha’s resolution. The Democrats knew this, hence why they voted no. Murtha wanted a bipartisan debate on the floor… This is obviously the last thing the Repugs want. Instead, they pulled a stunt and then a spin (read “lie”) in the hopes many people who are too busy to find out the truth, would believe them.

    ’nuff said.

    This IS NOT about IRI!

He wants to challenge my record…I have NO PROBLEM validating my services to my country! You want the rundown, PUNK!!!

    Comment by Private Loser

You are one of hundreds of thousands that have served. Thank you for your service. But what does that mean, really? It doesn’t mean you are wise, it doesn’t mean you are smart and it doesn’t mean you are right. But what I’ve read from you means something. It means you’ve bought into the lie spoon fed you by the left. You’e succumbed to war time propaganda spewing out of the mouths of our enemies at home and abroad. Thank God, you are a minority, an “army of one”.

It’s my opinion that a veteran that turns on his country and fellow soldiers for whatever reason and takes the side of our enemies or through his word and deed helps our enemies is a traitor. John Kerry turned traitor in Paris while still in uniform and remains a traitor to this day. Hopefully you’ll snap out of it but a soldier that thinks there should be some sort of democratic process in the military is an idiot and not likely to change.

Enjoy your benefits and be glad I’m not the kind of guy that would forward your treasonous comments to your old comrades in arms who might take exception. That is if you used your real name. I suppose you are that stupid though.

    Comment by I-RIgHT-I

At least he knows we are enemies. And what is it we do with the enemy? We kill the enemy. Eliminate the right wing fringe in this country. It’s the only way to be sure. considering they are outnumbered by 3 or 4 to 1, it should be a… slam dunk, a cakewalk, but for real this time. Check out the new map and kiss your ass good-bye as we pluck out your right eye, for it offends us.
